PlayStation Now Subscriptions Come to PS3 May 12th

We have some exciting news: PlayStation Now subscriptions will be coming to PS3 later this May! Now you’ll be able to play a huge library of more than 100 hit PS3 games on PS4 and PS3, as well as select Sony Blu-ray players and TVs, all for one monthly price. That’s an incredible number of games to binge on — and of course, you can play your games across devices with cloud saves.

Look out for PS Now subscriptions coming to PS3 on May 12th, and if you haven’t tried PlayStation Now yet, this is a perfect time to start your free 7-day trial.

The subscription will be coming to more devices soon, and will be adding new games monthly so you always have something fresh to play. Without further ado, here are this month’s new titles:

Fat Princess

Rescue your beloved princess through teamwork in this comic medieval battle royale. There’s a catch, though — the other team has been feeding her magical cake, making her harder to escort back to your castle. Choose from five distinct character classes and switch at any time to best help your team. Charge head first into battle, heal teammates as they break through enemy lines, and upgrade your team and the castle defenses as you work with your team to save your princess.

F1 2014

Feel the power of new turbocharged Formula One cars in the most accessible Formula 1 video game yet, including a new driver evaluation system to adjust the game to your level, shorter career options, and new Very Easy mode. F1 2014 features all the cars, drivers and circuits from the 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship including new tracks in Russia and Austria.

Sanctum 2

Sanctum 2 is the sequel to one of the first Tower Defense/FPS hybrid game. Pick from four unique character classes and embark on a mission to protect the oxygen-producing Cores from hordes of deadly aliens who are threatened by their existence. In Sanctum 2, you will utilize elements from multiple gameplay genres to succeed. Construct towers and walls during the building phase before the enemies attack, then jump into the fray and blast everything to pieces in FPS mode. You can progress through the single-player campaign yourself, or play with up to four friends in co-op to discover the secrets of the planet LOEK III.

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce

Step into a Dynasty Warriors experience unlike any other. Up to four friends can team‐up for a wide range of heroic action‐packed quests. Become one of history’s greatest warriors and work as a team to conquer heavily‐armed fortresses, infiltrate enemy strongholds and more. Spectacular battles await!

Farming Simulator

Farming Simulator will challenge you to take on the role of a modern day farmer. Animal husbandry, crops, sales… It’s up to you to manage and grow your own farm in two huge environments: typical European and American environments. Progress in your career to complete different missions and control more than a hundred farming vehicles!

Is this a new version of Farming Simulator???

Because Farming Simulator has been on PS Now since darn near the beginning when it was first released on PS4..

I haven’t tried PS Now yet… But I know Farming Simulator is already on there because it is one of the few games I’ve considering getting super stoned and trying out.

For a fraction of the price, GameFly still beats the PS Now program by offering a better selection of games (plus the convenience of offline play). Sony really needs to improve PS Now before I would even begin to think of purchasing it.

  You can already find PS Now on select Sony TVs and Blu-ray players, and is coming very soon to Samsung TVs. We have a full roadmap of devices in the works as well. Also, expect some great news soon from publishers about PS Now!

Dear Sony,

I am very disappointed in PS Now. I like neither the subscription nor the rental model. It should have on demand model. Make it like PS video. Allow users the option when buying a game digitally, they can either stream it online and/or download it for offline viewing. Allow users who already purchase the game on PS3 digitally to get it on PS Now at no additional cost.

Also, add PS1 and PS2 games to it.

Or just make a PS1, PS2, and P3 emulator. Compare Nintendo’s Virtual Console.

I’d rather just have the option to BUY old ps1 or ps2 titles on ps4. And I certainly don’t want to pay to RENT titles I already played recently on ps3 since ps4 isn’t that old yet. I’m sorry, but for me personally, this rental service?….no thanks.

I’ve just been wanting Resonance of Fate and 3D Dot Game Heroes to come to PSNow. Been asking for it forever. Tweeted Sega and Atlus and emailed through the company contact page and nothing. I feel Sony is really lacking in getting more 3rd party games on the service.

Copy* Nintendo’s Virtual Console.

It seems Sony wants to make PS Now more like Redbook and Netflix. PS Now should be like iTunes. Allow users to purchase all PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 games digitally on PS devices, Smart TV, and PC. And those who already bought the game digitally, they should get it on PS Now for no additional fee. The lack of digitally backward compatibility is selfish and greedy. You can easily make a PS1, PS2, and PS3 emulator.

Please, Sony, allow me to preserve my PS3 games. I invested over a $1000 in digital games and it should be able to go with me wherever.

Also, as please link Ultraviolet to PS Video. Sony is a supporter of Ultraviolet. Please free up the reserve space for the OS on PS3. I should not have to be giving up 100GB of space on my 1TB HDD. Also, please support individual item backup to external HDD on PS3 and the ability to load games from it. Finally, give us 2 step verification for PSN.

Hey Sony,

Been having a blast with PS Now. I subscribed day one, and have been using it on the Vita almost exclusivly. I have a 3G Vita which I use with Skype as my cell. After hugly disapointing time with Xperia Z line of phones I have moved back to what is still the best mobile devices ever released, the PlayStation Vita 3G/Wifi.

There is one thing that is really missing though. I tinked with Remote Play and PS Now via tethering while I had the Xperia Z3, and both worked without a hitch. Is there any chance we will see a 4G Vita released, or perhapps a PlayStation Phone on the Vita OS with 4G?

If we could get access to PlayStation Now, PlayStation Vue, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Music, and Remote Play over 4G on a future Vita model, then Sony will hands down have the best mobile device on the market. This would be an innovation in the mobile space. A mobile that can game with the big boys, has all the buttons to acomplish unique and innovative gameplay, and still handle day to day, texting, calling, e-mails, banking, and social media apps.

Thanks For where we are today, I look forward to great thing for the future of PS Now, PlayStation Network, PlayStation Vita, and PS4.

I’ve been patiently waiting and it’s finally here. I much rather be subscribed to PS Now than PS Plus. Are local stores going to carry PS Now cards just like PS Plus? Are movies going to be added to PS Now? Be sure to lookout for requests from us gamers on games we want to see added. Thank you so much.

don’t care about PS Now. make a PS1 and PS2 emulator on PS4 and i’ll even pay for it. i’m not paying to rent monthly for sub 720p, sub 30 fps, poorly optimized PS3 games which were awful ports last gen and then add lag, always online and disconnections and it amazes me Sony wasted their money on this. i hope PS now fails and loses you alot of money Sony.

Will PS Now subscriptions also come to Playstation TV? I was disappointed to find that not only Netflix skipped on the PSTV, but also that Powers, the first original TV series for Playstation, was ironically not available on Playstation TV.

Thank You for response Jack!. I wasn’t aware that not the single rentals and subscription were separate. I thought you had the choice to either rent individually or subscribe for the entire catalog.

So I figured subscribers already would of had access to Farming simulator. My mistake. I’ll definitely give it a go!

I am sure plus will super suck now on PS3. Ps plus went downhill since psnow started. As other’s said already ps now is way over priced compared to gamefly, red box etc. Happy I got to enjoy the early good years of plus.

What a boring month all around in my opinion first more bad indies and now these will be the ps now games of May? C’mon sony step your game up! Please give us more options on vita along with some better titles for ps plus and maybe I’ll consider renewing my ps plus sub may is over for me let’s see how June goes! C’mon bring on the triple A titles please.

My internet is too slow. I live on a cul-de-sac and my service providers have always said my house is the last one on the line and that’s why my signal strength is so low. I can’t even get remote play to work, which is a huge disappointment for me.

I haven’t even given the PS Now Trial a try. Not that I don’t want to or that I’m not interested. I don’t feel comfortable putting my personal credit card information on PSN. Too many breaches and problems that it isn’t worth the risk. So when it is required to have your credit card info to even do the trial; then no thank you. Now if it allowed itself to bill you from what you had in your wallet monthly or however you have it setup. Then I would make sure I had the money in there, via a pre paid PSN card. The way it is now though, PS Now isn’t for me.

How about a ps+ model like this:

At the start of the month allow us to play it for free as usual, or purchase at a substantial discount, say 80-90% off.

Allow us to DL a demo to try it to see if we want to purchase or just play it as long as we have plus, for those games we are not sure if we care to own.

PS Now is a awesome service in theory, but where are all the PS3 Exclusives that have come to define Playstation over the last generation?

There’s too many third party games and PSN arcade games on PS Now and hardly any AAA PS3 Exclusives.

@3 – No disrespect, but you not being able to afford it is not Sony’s problem. That’s like asking them to lower the costs of games and consoles because you can’t afford it. Yeah, cheaper is nicer for the consumer, but the request is unrealistic.
See how many games you can rent from Blockbuster for 3 months with $45 and you may appreciate just how reasonable that price actually is. It’ sucks if your disposable income is too little to enjoy all the games you want, but gaming isn’t everything.

Sony messed up by deciding that backwards compatibility was not such a great thing for a console to have. They were absolutely wrong to think that the golden feature was simply no longer needed and a better alternative is warranted thus explains the downgrading of the last, great backwards-compatible machine: the PS3.

PSNow is still in its infancy. All I’m saying is that the investment could be made somewhere else, like making the next iteration (PS4 Slim) backwards-compatible with PS3, PS2, and PS1 games. OF course this could be applied now to the existing PS4 but Sony keeps turning a blind eye to this and I just could not understand why. A lot of us gamers that proved loyal to the PS line of consoles and games since day one in 1995 still have that certain nostalgic factor of holding on to our collection of games that we all know too well, can only be immortalized in their original, disc formats.

One of the commenters that posted in this blog made perfect sense in asking just how can the subscription be justified when the players already “own” copies of games (that they actually want to play…), whether it be in disc or digital version. Someone please enlighten me as to why I need to pay the premium fee only to be told to wait because they are currently “adding” to the online catalog and even then there’s no assurance that hard-hitting, exclusive titles (Best Hits anyone?) will make it on there.

PS2 had backwards compatibility that included features to speed up loading times and advanced anti-aliasing.

PS3 had backwards compatibility only for a certain time.

PS4? Well??

I’m sorry but honestly I think it’s sabotage. Even the dictionary’s description fits perfectly: The conscious withdrawal of efficiency generally directed at causing some change in workplace conditions.

I have nothing against this service, but I also don’t think it’s a good substitute for not having PS1 and PS2 classics playable locally on the PS4. I have a good internet connection, but still find the amount of lag to make twitch games unplayable.

I would have paid $599, $699 or however much for a PlayStation 4 that has backwards compatibility with the whole world-wide spectrum of PS3, PS2 and PS1 games. PS Plus is the only thing needed for online gaming and extras like free downloadable games, themes, etc and yes, I think it was possible for the PS4 to transfer PS3, PS2 and PS1 disc data into the HDD and make it an official digital copy of the game instead of having to stream it online. I need to know if anyone is with me on this.

I think 5 games (old, very old games btw) per month is not enough for the price you ask. This service have the same number of games release as PS PLUS per month but its extremely more expensive and to be honest, is lacking quality games.

I tried the service and it perform and play very well, but for the price you ask, we should have the entire ps now catalog

These 5 game additions for May are very disappointing. It’s a good thing there are already some great titles on PS NOW to sink your teeth into (Bioshock Infinite, Arkham City, Last of Us, etc).

Come on, PS NOW, let’s get some other strong titles in there, like…Beyond: 2 Souls.

@ DA3NAPPUX- Yes, I’m inclined to agree with you.

About 3 years ago, my launch day PS3 phat model died. Rather than buy a new PS3, I waited for a PS4, hoping it would have backwards compatability, like the initial PS3’s did with PS2 games. I was very disappointed to find out it did not.

Now, I have dozens and dozens of + PS3 titles that I can’t play at all, even though I can get PS NOW, etc. PS NOW doesn’t recognize even previous *PURCHASES* (let alone PLUS titles) that you have made for the game. You still have to pay a subscription fee to stream the game, whether you own the digital version or not. This is ridiculous.

Sony has the right thinking in bringing PS3 titles back to the forefront with PS NOW. But if Sony wants to keep its customers, it has to reward them for previous purchases, not PENALIZE them. To have to pay for a game multiple times is ridiculous.

@DA3NAPPUX – Backwards compatibility would have been incredible, but not at the prices you mentioned. I actually discussed this a lot, prior to PS4’s launch. What it obviously comes down to is money. It would have increased the production costs, but it’s possible that Sony also didn’t want to tank PS3 console sales. What I thought would have been ideal is a trial, where Sony would have accepted pre-orders for PS4’s with BC (perhaps for $449.99) and PS4’s without it. They could have planned a limited run just to test the waters, and if they found that the BC PS4 pre-orders were in high demand, they could have planned to make the full jump to BC with that higher price tag, or continue to produce both versions of the console. It would have been ideal for us, but like I said, I think PS3 console sales had to have played a part in that decision. Sony was still making a ton of money from PS2 sales after the PS3 had launched.
It’s not what many of us wanted, but I still have my PS3 anyway, so it’s not a terribly huge deal for most PlayStation fans. Granted, it is not ideal, and I personally would be much more inclined to play PS3 games if I could play them on my preferred console, but it’s not unmangeable.

@ PanTheMan16 – First gen PS3s were sold at $599 if I’m not mistaken, but obviously due to other bells and whistles that it came with like additional 2 USB and the media ports plus BC. I just don’t know why the PS3 would be the most expensive unit out of all four considering the normal rise in cost with the release of a new system. $599 makes more sense unless there really wasn’t that much stuff in the PS3 to begin with? For the most part I agree with you but a newly-released, highly-anticipated next-gen console that costs $150 less than its older counterpart, no.

I guess my point here really is that backwards compatibility shouldn’t only be exactly that. Look at the PS2 and how they included disc speed and texture options along with BC for PS1 games and believe me, I’ve seen the difference (in some games though, disc speed didn’t work quite as well especially games with voice-overs, the audio would be sped up and didn’t sync with the rest of the game!) PS3 offered plain ol’ BC without any special treatment for PS2 games, and this is where I first started to get annoyed. I, for one, am very optimistic that whatever features were present in a certain generation console will also make it to its successor, even if it’s not an improved version (I mean who didn’t want to see faster loading times and smoother textures on PS2 games played on PS3?) Blame it on my imagination but I think it’d be awesome to see the same thing being done on PS4 for PS3 games.
