Zen Pinball 2 and Portal

Valve and Zen Studios have revealed the fruits of their recent collaboration, taking one of the most beloved game series of the past decade, Portal, and giving it the pinball treatment! Portal Pinball will be available for Zen Pinball 2 on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita on May 26th, 2015.

Crafted in collaboration with Valve and Zen Studios, Aperture Laboratories is proud to reveal the “Aperture Science Heuristic Portal Pinball Device”, proving that persistent experimentation is not only the hallmark of good science for the benefit of mankind, but also incalculably fun!

  • I can honestly i didn’t see this coming but i am happy to see it. But i am not sure if its possibly for a pinball game to capture the charm and the feeling of portal.

    Awesome.

  • “Look at me still talking when there’s pinball to do…” This looks amazing. I really can’t say enough good things about Zen Studios’ pinball tables, from Paranormal to Star Wars Rebels. Day one purchase!

  • The only thing disappointing about this announcement is that it’s not out today. Did you get the voice of GlaDOS? Can’t wait.

  • I really don’t like pinball that much but I will purchase this one. Portal 2 is my wife’s favorite game to play with me still today. If they would make a Portal 3 for PlayStation 4, day one purchase!!!!

  • Woot! Looks awesome! Keep it up Zen! (Starts to think 2y down the road the icons on the vita will need to be 10px square… hehe)

    • Bobby Loertscher

I know, right? We’ll probably rearrange and categorize them, the menu is getting so full! :)

  • The best thing …..it’s on both platforms ….PS3/PS4……..:)

  • Yesssssssss! more pinball woot woot! Can’t wait to see all the crazy stuff this table will do

  • Will my best friend companion cube be in there somehow?

  • Will check this out on playstation but will this be available on other platforms as well?

  • This had better not be a lie, you monster!

  • Are you lying about cake????

  • I’ll buy this day-one. And thanks for the May 4th Star Wars sale. If you wouldn’t mind doing a sale on some of your six thousand Marvel tables that would be great.

  • This will be so epic. I can’t wait to play it.

  • Loving all these new tables! This one looks awesome as well so I can’t wait to check it out!

  • So many pinball tables (not a problem), so little time (big problem). Keep them coming though as all your tables are amazing!

  • I was getting pretty bored with all the Star Wars and Marvel tables (although fun, there’s a lot of them)… but this one looks AMAZING! Can’t wait to play it.

  • Nice. Such a perfect game to design a pinball game around, and a great collaboration. Will it stretch my brain?

  • With all the hate Valve showed the PS3 has me in the position of not wanting to have anything to do them. If it was not for Electronic Arts there would not be any Valve software on the PlayStation 3 except Counter-Strike Global Offensive.

  • Ha! I like your style. You make up your own rules, just like me. Chariots chariots.

  • Hey Bobby…1st of all I would like to say that The Empire Strikes Back is the best table you guys ever made.Okay I would like to request some things.

2nd:There is a bug on the Clone Wars table, sometimes the ball saver won’t save the ball when its activated,I mean the ship shoots the ball but the ball goes down anyway.

3rd:Is it possible to show what we are doing on ZP2?…on the game we’re playing, for example:Zen Pinball 2 – Star Wars Episode V table…like LBP does.

4th:When you beat one of the 10 scores on the table you’re prompted to put your initials like when you beat your own score…can you make somehow that when you beat a score the last name you’ve put is already there?…sometimes when I beat the scores all the time is annoying to keep going after the letters.

And last but not “in any way” least, please a sale in all ZP2 tables.PLEASE.

Thank you for the FANTASTIC work.

  • Awesome news!
I actually suggested this about a year ago, along with some other video games.

Now we just need tables based on Doom, Canon Fodder, and Metal Slug. Make it happen! :P

I’d love to see more tables along the lines of your South Park tables. Those are gorgeous and so vivid and full of color. They pop off the screen! I’d love to see more South Park tables. Perhaps one based on The Stick of Truth. Or even a Christmas Mr. Hankey table would be fun.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Just picked up some of your Star Wars tables that I didn’t have yet – thank you for the sale! Those will keep me busy for a while, so three weeks out won’t feel like long. Will there be any videos between now and then?

I noticed that not all the pictures are linked in this blog post – click on the picture for the full-size version on flickr, then use the next/prev links to see three more pictures that weren’t linked above.

  • YES! Yes yes yes! And more yes! Ever since the Valve/Zen crossover tease, this has been the table I’ve been hoping for… All of the thanks!

  • That’s awesome. I really enjoy all these cool pinball tables.

  • Wow, incredible. Something I didn’t know I wanted so much until now. I loved the Plants Vs Zombies table for how well it executed the concept with an ip I like, but Portal is like a match made in heaven. Wow.

    Day 0.

  • Never did get into the Portal series, but I’ll pick it up like always. I hate seeing those grey icons on the home screen.

    (That’s OCD for ya.)

  • @Bobby
shut up and take my money!

  • Zen is super productive recently, with all these new tables. In my opinion, some of the recent standouts are the Wild West-themed table, the most recent Star Wars table (released last week, I think), and Guardians of the Galaxy.

  • I love the Pinball Arcade series, but the Zen tables have taken a lot longer to grow on me. There’s so much going on in every frame … it’s like a George Lucas Extended Edition. Too busy. The mechanics are solid, but there’s something eerie about playing a table that just could not exist in the real world.
I bought the Star Wars packs in last weeks’ sale and finally feel my resistance crumbling. And now this, wow, now this is just an ideal use for something that couldn’t exist in the real world, but after you play with the Portal Gun for a while it feels like the most natural thing in the world. What a great idea. It’s likely to be my first full-price purchase for Zen Pinball.

  • Looks awesome. Love me some hot. pinball. action.

I would love to see an assortment of lighting options on Zens’ current and future tables. Hope something like this is being considered for an update.

Keep your cake. I has want ice creams… with sprinkles.

  • Where Valve gives up on Portal 2 DLC, Zen Studios steps up.

    …Kinda.

    …I’ll still take it!

  • Will it be free or do you have to buy it and if it has to be bought what’s the price

  • @ 33 Terra9342 – Of course it won’t be free and the price will probably be the same of the other tables sold separately…$3.00.

  • What a perfect combo of mixing Portal with Zen Pinball. Awesome sauce

  • This really does look awesome… but I have to be honest I stopped buying new tables a while ago. I bought every new table up until Zen Pinball released on the PS4 and I realized cross-buy between the PS4 platform and PS3/Vita wasn’t going to be a thing… I paid my $10 for the newest Star Wars tables that launched at the same time on my PS4, then went to download them on my Vita and saw it was gonna cost me another $10. Every time new tables release I look at them on the Vita and PS4 stores to see if cross buy is supported between them, but still only PS3/Vita cross buy. I haven’t bought a table since…

Any thoughts of enabling cross buy between all three Playstation platforms so I can start enjoying this franchise again without feeling like I’m being taken advantage of?

  • Wow, now you’re just spoiling us. We just recently had two tables released back to back (The Star Wars Rebel table is awesome by the way) and now a portal table!!! Can’t wait and as always Zen you’re awesome! Anyone playing on PS4 add me for competition.

  • dont get it how it works :/

  • @36

Zen Pinball 2 tables ARE cross-buy, just not directly. You have to buy and install them on PS3, start the game, and then load up the PS4 version and hit “import tables”
