Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Out Today on PS4

In last year’s Wolfenstein: The New Order, the series’ staple protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz manages to snap out of a coma, remove himself from the wheelchair he’s been confined to for decades, and quickly move on to his favorite pastime: killing Nazis. Seemingly an impossible feat… but by the time you complete Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, out today, you’ll realize it’s just another day at the office for Blazkowicz.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Out Today on PS4

The Old Blood is a prequel to The New Order offering the same high-intensity, story-driven, first-person action players have come to expect from the game’s developer MachineGames. The story unfolds as B.J. and ally spy Agent One begin an undercover mission to infiltrate the infamous Castle Wolfenstein (longtime fans of the series will appreciate MachineGames’ nods to the 2001 classic, Return to Castle Wolfenstein) in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound.

B.J.’s battles within Castle Wolfenstein are what legends are made of, but Castle Wolfenstein only represents the game’s first act: Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves. Serving as the warden of Castle Wolfenstein’s prison, Jäger might seem like the most sinister villain you’ll meet — until you reach the game’s second act, The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs.

A renowned archaeologist in the Nazi party, Von Schabbs heads the party’s SS Paranormal division, and her passion for the occult will lead to very bad things. How bad? Have a look at the game’s new launch trailer embedded above.

To help Blazkowicz through these near-impossible odds, MachineGames has added a number of weapons worthy of the FPS Hall of Fame. It begins with a multi-purpose metal pipe that can be used to traverse and break walls, and also execute enemies with one- and two-handed melee attacks. Of course The Old Blood has its fair share of memorable guns, too. The new bolt-action rifle packs a powerful punch and is perfect for long-range sniping. And if you find yourself in a real jam, take advantage of the Kampfpistole — a pocket-sized rocket launcher!

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is available today on PS4; you can download it from PlayStation Store for $19.99.

  • Already loaded and played! Thanks machinegames

  • Machinegames is proving the first time was no fluke. Game is awesome so far and looks even better than New Order.

  • Looks like it will be a blast to play!

  • Any idea on the length of gameplay?

    • Matt Grandstaff

Personally it took me right around 8 hours, which is convenient because there’s 8 missions. Of course some are longer than others, and sometimes I managed to die many, many times.

  • I just picked up a copy of The New Order. Should I play The Old Blood first? Is it a prequel, or a… prequel?

  • Speaking of blood Blood is red. Any word on when the Magma Red Dualshock 4 controllers will be coming to North America?

  • Will Project Cars be available for pre-order on PSN today?

  • video game junkies here. My wife, two kids and i now all have a ps4 for ourselves. Fps are big in this house. We own and play them all. Im sure your game is awesome, plays great, and is fun fun fun. But after all that, trust me when i say, that playing with others makes that game go gold. Replay value, options on gameplay, various choices of game modes….really sells here. Huge heads up i hope and am pretty sure you guys get. But gamers need games these days. i wanted this game cause its old school take me back to childhood name. But i dont own it. We would of bought at least two copies AND this old blood if co op or pvp was in it. Looks fun, shame its always me who wants it and my family that votes for something we can all play together. Lol.

The New Order is my second favorite Shooter all time, jjust under Bioshock. You guys and ladies at MachineGames made a phenomenal game. So much so that within 6 months of release, I bought it on.Ps4, X1, 360 and Ps3. Bought the art book as well. And today I’m ordering the Panzerhund edition today. Keep them coming.

  • Will the game have any DLC? I ask because I prefer getting retail copy, so I’m considering importing from EU.

  • HOT DOG

  • Awesome trailer…damn I wanna play The Old Blood but I haven’t played The New Order yet…but fret not Bethesda, you’ll have my support with Old Blood too.I’m buying the game even if I take months to play it…I love the SP love you guys are giving us and I gotta support you guys for that.
Also kudos to MachineGames for such great work.

You can definitely play Old Blood prior to New Order. Works much better than, say, Phantom Menace before Star Wars.

  • Loved The new order. It had great gameplay and visuals, a cool story, and best of all no online mode. They put all their resources into crafting one heck of a single-player campaign. I was looking for a FPS made for people who don’t care about online or co-op like me and this is it. Pre-ordered the Old blood and can’t wait to play it.

  • Game looks great havnt played New Order but i played the first one on 360. Cant wait to try it out!!

  • I’m in for a physical copy. May import the EU version, not sure. I’d support a North American physical release by any means you’d offer. 3rd party merchant internal marketplace like Digital River? No problem. Charge more money for physical? Sure, take my money.

Really enjoyed The New Order, but, I really do not enjoy digital downloads.

I’ve got money, and I’d love to spend it on Wolfenstein. All I ask is for physical releases. Thanks for reading.

  • Yep can’t wait like others I will wait till I can buy the disc

  • Great game. Like it so far.

Machine Games really know what Wolfenstein is about. Gory Action, great humour, and the American / German speech.
Wolfenstein for PS3 was Meh, but Machine Games made it as fun as the first parts but with really good graphics and lots new ideas.

It´s so fun to listen to the great german language and the Americans talking german sometimes too.

@ Mister Zurkon: Hot Dog – I know what you mean. LOL.
@ KiLLjoY-42481 If you like FPS Games this should be a must have for you. If you like “Oldschool” games even more.
You have to get it. The Story really adds up replay value.

BTW Shadow Warrior is a single player oldschool shooter which I and my girlfriend also liked a lot. You should get that too. Got it for 6 Bucks in a sale and worth every penny.

  • MachineGames thank you for the two great Wolfenstein Games.

  • My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do… WWW.JOBS-REVIEW.COM

  • Any chance this is getting a disc version? Or a Ultimate Edition bundled with the Wolfenstein The New Order?

  • Looks awesome!
I’ll have to pick it up in the week or two.

Machine Games is my new developer of the yr for 2014. I personally think The New Order deserved to be sitting at about an 87 on metacritic instead of the other way around. These guys are so talented and have so much love for the source material it shines through like vibrant embers of blinding light. Alli do is promote these guys BC they deserve it, you will not find a better so campaign than in Machine Games Wolfenstein. I love the pulp/grindhouse feel of The Old Blood and it’s a steal at 20$ with an 8-10 hr campaign and a PLATINUM trophy.

I know ppl want you to do Quake bc of the relationship to id, but considering how impeccably well you rebooted Wolfenstein I think Machine Games would be perfect to reboot Duke Nukem. Talk to Gearbox & whoever else, give Duke the Wolfenstein treatment and you are golden. Or make a full fledged sequel to The New Order.

  • No disc in the U.S.? No problem. PS4 isn’t region-locked so I’ll just buy the European version of the New Blood when it hits this week. Problem solved.

But in the future Sony, consideri helping companies set up a way to have discs pressed and shipped in small order. I know you and the industry are dying to put an end to physical media, but the problem is gamers STILL want physical media. With PS4, since you won’t deliver an update that allows us to save patches when we delete games from our hard drives which would save us tons of time from having to re-download patches, we don’t want to have to download 39+ GB games that tie up precious space on our hard drives, hence another reason why we need physical media.
