Destiny House of Wolves: Prison of Elders Details

In addition to upgrading the game’s popular competitive mode, Destiny’s next expansion aims to flesh out the backstory of The Fallen, the dastardly alien race that have claimed many of mankind’s abandoned strongholds following the appearance of The Darkness.

House of Wolves introduces a new social space set in The Reef, a dilapidated base run by the Queen of the Awoken packed with new missions and new activities. In addition to five new story missions set all over the solar system, and a new Strike called The Shadow Thief, House of Wolves brings a muscular new PvE mode that aims to keep high-level co-op players fighting and looting. Watch our new video above to learn more.

In Prison of Elders, you’ll partner with fellow Guardians and attempt to survive a series of battles across many of Destiny’s toughest alien races, including Hive, Cabal, and more. Each encounter will be a bit different thanks to procedurally generated gameplay wrinkles, whether it’s different mission types, modifiers, or boss battles. Survive it all and your fireteam will gain access to the Queen’s treasure room — and trust me, it’s worth the fuss. Devoted Prison of Elders fans can also unlock special challenges at levels 32, 34, and 35.

  • Sony, when are you going to fix the Vitas you broke with firmware 3.5?

  • Sony, when are people going to learn that if they have an issue with device they should use the support form or call customer service?

  • Yet more co-op activities? The more I hear about House of Wolves, the more I regret buying the season pass. It’s unfortunate I can’t ask for a refund (or can I?).

When will Bungie do something for solo players?:

    -Make matchmaking for Strikes optional
-Adjust Strike difficulty based on the number of people playing.
-How about some new activities for solo players too?

  • So is there no more PS exclusives besides the mp map? I was hoping for a strike, an exotic weapon… but none of that is disappointing.

  • Ehh 5 new story missions isnt enough to bring me back to destiny.

  • Level 35 activity? So artificial difficulty in HoW too? Bullet sponges just aren’t fun.

  • The PS Store says if we pre-order, we get an exclusive theme (for the PS4). Will those of us that bought the Expansion Pass be getting this theme as well?

  • What Hakumen__ said.

  • Please tell bungie to quit resorting to bullet sponges for difficulty. The reason VoG is more fun than Crota’s End hard mode is due to creative gameplay changes to add difficulty that force the strategy to have a lower margin of error. Not “You’re not hitting hard enough, HIT ME HARDER” mechanics to win. Destiny players have no respect for Crota’s End and hate running it.

  • This has a very good them to the game and at least its not as lame as COD who has failed 2 years in a row ,id rather spend my money on something that is playable then something that has failed 2 years in a row

  • StrangerStrange

Glad to see more PvE. Wish I had friends to add..

  • Time to get back into some Destiny!

  • will wolves include \dark below content?

if i buy wolves and do not own the dark below can i play ALL of wolves content or is it locked by some king of pre req from dark below?

  • Can’t Wait!

  • @Hakumen__ you knew damn well Destiny was mostly a co op/online game. dont act like you didnt know that when you bought it. dont like it? cool. no one cares

  • @rays1118 Exactly. It was advertised as a full MP experience, asking for solo content is unrealistic & ignorant. Its designed to play with other people. Hell, you can solo about 90% of the content in the game anyways, its not overly difficult.

  • just a reminder that i’m not buying a ps4 until they get DLNA support! have a great day.

  • So pumped!

  • Destiny is worse than JUST bullet sponging.

Your level is an artificial limiter. If you’re 4 levels to low you’re doing like 25%-50% damage. If you’re 1 level too low you’re doing like 75%-80% total damage.

In order to level up you have to grind to level up gear, or beg for people to drag your useless underpowered butt through the content they’ve mastered.

I’m trying to tell people if you want a solo experience you bought the wrong game. Get the Handsome Collection.

Why did I buy Destiny? Bought the game for us for his birthday so that we can play together, because he’s been having hard drive problems, and Destiny is one of those few games where you can’t lose a save file due to hardware malfunction (for better or for worse)

  • @17 so you’re not going to spend $400 dollars on a gaming machine until it supports streaming for your media devices?

Why don’t you just buy a $30-40 dollar chromecast or a Raspberry Pi, or just use your PS3 for DLNA? HDMI switches and hubs are fairly cheap.

Not talking you into a PS4, I’m talking out of your hardline stance, that doesn’t make sense to me.

Sony is kicking the crud out of Microsoft in console sales partly in fact that they focused on gaming first, and media as an extra.

@13 you’ll have to buy both if you want to play all the content.

You just buy House of Wolves if you don’t care about the Dark Below stuff, but you’ll get locked out of any strikes that happen in Dark Below.

If they do it any other way they screw over the people who spent $20 on the lackluster DLC.

  • + MakaiOokami

    preciate it!

got 17.xx in wallet waiting for some project cars news if cars droping money going toward that, if not might hop back in destiny

  • @thegodofgreen

Well wait till the DLC is released, and people have a chance to make guides on how to experience House of Wolves content without owning the Dark Below.

It SHOULD be possible, but it might be hard to bridge the gap, because if you’re more than say 4 levels lower than the content you won’t do any damage, and you’ll only do maybe 30%-50% damage if you’re 4 levels lower, and 75%-80% damage to enemies if you’re 1 level lower, and House of Wolves is likely to be around level 33-35.

So depending on what level you stopped playing at… might be difficult for you to just jump in for House of Wolves.

Hopefully there will be some easier upgrade path that will help you skip the Crota content, if you only grab House of Wolves.

  • AWESOMEgamer875

Looks awesome! I guess I am actually going to have to pick this up even though I wasn’t really planning on it. There seems to be a lot more content here than I originally thought there would be! The Reef is what I really want to explore a little bit more, there was so much potential to be had that just never really got taken advantage of.

  • When are they going to give the strikes some love? Because I’m not good at the crucible I ‘ve been stuck at around a third of the way to 32. I play strikes not the crucible.

  • I’m sorry, but Crucible is just… well… terribly disappointing. The maps are ridiculous, the online community is almost worse than Call of Duty, and it’s about as unbalanced as it can get. I was expecting Halo-level multiplayer with Destiny, and instead, Bungie gave us a Halo-wannabe multiplayer arena.

None of this Crucible stuff looks interesting, and all the work Bungie put into trying to make Crucible relevant only takes away what could have went into the horribly cut up story. The main story was a mess, and the Dark Below didn’t answer jack. It actually only created more confusion. It sounds as if House of Wolves isn’t going to fix any of that, and instead will just follow the path of the Dark Below.

As cool as a horde mode sounds, I’m still just sorely disappointed that we aren’t getting another Raid. To this day, the absolutely best thing about Destiny is The Vault of Glass. When the Dark Below came out, I couldn’t believe how pathetic and short Crota’s End was. It felt lazy, and it was a major glitch-fest. Considering we were given Vault of Glass first, I was expecting more of the same with the DLC. The Dark Below painfully disappointed, and I just don’t know how to feel about House of Wolves.

  • #24 I’m in the same boat. You need raid gear to progress furthur.

  • I paid for an expansion why all this crucible non sense? It doesn’t look like much of a new story either. The enemies are the same too. Really what has changed?

  • Any news on increasing the glimmer cap?

  • Any new trophies with HOW?

  • game was bull ****. It wasnt complete and now they keep making DLC

  • WELL, I’VE BEEN A PLAYSTATION PLAYER FOR AWHILE NOW AND WHEN I RENEWED MY MEMBERSHIP I HAD A PROBLEM. SO I GOT IN CONTACT WITH CUSTOMERSERVICE, AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO SOMEOTHER PAGE THAN THE PAGE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. WELL, THROUGH ALL THE CONFUSION I MADE A PAYMENT TO THE INCORRECT MEMBERSHIP, SO I CALLED CUSTOMERSERVICE BACK AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED BUT ALL THEY COULD HAVE DONE WAS TO REFUND ME BACK. WELL THAT’S NOT WHAT I WOULD HAVE LIKED, I WOULD RATHER THAT PLAYSTATION WOULD CREDIT ME INSTEAD. WHAT I. REALLY WANTED WAS TO MAKE A PAYMENT TOWARDS THE GTA ONLINE FOR $17.99 FOR 3 MONTHS . CUSTOMERSERVICE WAS NOT VERY HELPFUL AT ALL, THEY ARE CONFUSED AND UNDERTRAINED !!!!!
ALSO THE SUPERVSOR, WAS NOT VER HELPFUL EITHER!!!!! OR DIDN’T SEEM TO WANT TO HELP ME RESOLVE MY UNPLEASNT EXPERIENCE!!!!!!! ONCE MY THREE MONTHS ARE UP, I AM DEFINITELY GOING BACK TO MY XBOX !!!!!!!

    EXTREMELY UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER.

  • Bungie needs to put that season pass on sale…that damn price is a robbery and bungie knows that…look what their actions have brought,Arkham Knight season $40 and so on…this is unbearable.

@ 3 Hakumen__ – I agree 100%…Destiny needs to show more love and support for the solo playas.

  • It’s nice to see at least a few people along with myself are excited for this new DLC. To everyone that is complaining about story line and single-player content… Go find a different game if you are so unsatisfied. Bungie never committed to any kind of epic storyline with this release. If that ruins the experience for you then you’re missing the point. Every game will have it’s downsides and areas that fall short to compensate for amazing aspects in other areas. Even after playing this game consistently for the past 6 months, it has kept my interest and allowed me the ability to meet a ton of new friends/gamers and enjoy the experience with them.

  • I guess saying, “Have questions? Let me know in the comments!” means they will not answer us and just want us to spam posts in here.

  • Bought the House of Wolves. I loved Mass Effect 3’s horde mode esque multiplayer. Prison of Elders is reminiscent of that, so of course I’m happy. Maybe now I’ll be able to get Gjallarhorn and Hawkmoon.

Hah, probably not, but here’s hoping. Come on Bungie, I’ve spent over $100 on your game, and put over 600 hours over my three max level characters. I deserve a break!

  • No Playstation exclusive weapons?

  • Any thoughts on Expansion Pass owners getting a theme? I missed out on the Tumbler because I wasn’t able to play destiny during that timeframe even with my expansions pass. I’d feel bad if I had to miss out on this thing too. I’m not allowed to preorder it for some reason.

  • This is to kid krazy. The service is called PlayStation Plus. How can you mistakenly pay for a different service? Do you know how to read? It says in every multiplayer online game for ps4 in the details. PlayStation Plus required for online.

  • how do i access the prison of elders? is there bounties we have to complete in order to unlock it?

  • I don’t know why companies bother putting out new games, when all gamers do is cry and moan about every little thing.

    Make your own friggen games.

  • well i solo all the new story mission on hardest level first time, piece of piss. dont know about adding stuff for solo players but they need to stop making stuff for friends (groups only) matchmake everything at least, not all of us have regular friends that can all play at same time (now i cant get the stuff from that until i have agrp bs

  • 3rd party lfg sites here we come (sad that there no lfg in game)

  • o my final thought, a fully online multiplayer game (that dont allow chatting to other players in any way what so ever, unless alrdy in there grp)
i thought these where next gen consoles
dam the amount of computer power it must use to make a chat box while in social space
