To whet your appetite for the epicness ahead, we have a sneak peek at the iron spike and chain hook-filled face off against Hades, the Lord of the Underworld. The video, like the gameplay, is full 1080p running at 60fps. Kratos’ legendary battles against the gods of Greek mythology are smoother and more satisfying than ever on PS4.

In addition to offering PS4 players a chance to rip apart the Olympic pantheon in stunning detail, the Remaster also includes Photo Mode. Now players can freeze the brutal action mid-swing, play with a ton of creative camera and lighting options, and share that with fellow God of War fans.

  • Is there going to be online added to this because it says online on the store description?

    • That is a description error. We will have that removed. There is no online play in God of War 3, however, God of War: Ascension does have a very active core multiplayer still running like the boots of Hermes. We recommend you give that a spin for sure.

  • Free PlayStation Now rentals of the earlier games as a pre-order bonus? Now that’s a clever incentive!

  • Pic of theme? Sony should allow us to view themes in motion before we buy.

I hope the theme is sold separately also as I don’t really want to buy GOW3 again as much as I love it.

    • Yes, we will. It will be up soon, agreed with you completely. We do have a video of the Anniversary theme, we will do the same here.

  • I love gow.

  • Can you put God of War 3 and the God of War Origins Collection on ps now?
Good cross promotion with ps now- should do that more.

I think we’re getting tired of remasters though. Give us new games please.
SSM is an amazing studio. I’d love to see a new franchise from the studio.

  • Remastered games is the real reason for the lack of backward compatibility. I really do not understand why publishers and Sony (and Microsoft) do not allow users just to buy the game once and get it on all devices. If I buy a game digitally on PS3, I should get it on PS4 too. Cross buy should be the norm. I should not have to repurchase the same game. If I buy a game on Google Play, I will get it on any Android device.

  • How do the harder settings feel on GoW3 HD?

I had a little bit of trouble with that on the PS3 version where the controls became a tad less responsive, particularly at the scorpion battle. It wasn’t bad and SMS did a great job, just something I’m hoping that is fixed with the improved frame rate.

Also can we ever expect the Vita to get it’s own GoW title?

  • Could we get a new God of War game? As much as I love this game, I’d much rather play something new.

  • $40?! No chance! It should be a complete set for that, bar Ascension, as that was chasing the multi-player market and was the worst of the entire series.

Bad timing for this game so close to ARKHAM KNIGHT release

  • Ich vorbestellt GOW 3 remastered letzten Monat bei Best Buy, werde ich das dynamische Thema noch zu bekommen?

  • This generation is just so gross we’ve had this game for years, it wasn’t even that great. Photo mode would be awesome on the Ps3 on the Ps4 it just another reminder of how it doesn’t match up to the older product’s less greed driven supurior software.

  • JimCarreyForYou

Please make a remaster of Ascension, thanks.

  • @12.”Superior” also these forums need an edit button.

  • This game is just so beautiful. It looks better than most PS4 games.

  • Is the pre-order theme available at any retail store or just on psn?

  • Sounds weird to have only 90-day access when God of War Saga allowed you to enjoy these games for as long as you wanted.
I mean, the audience for remasters is relatively small, would they really take such a toll on Sony’s servers by freely playing these games? Would they take so much time doing so?
Oh well, I’ll be waiting for GoW IV and Ascension Remastered @ E3.

    • We want to give PS4 fans who never played God of War, added incentive to play God of War 3 by playing the originals. It’s a great value-add for fans who never played, and 90 days is easily enough time to complete both.

      Appreciate the feedback as always.

  • $40 for a remaster and 2 rentals seems like a terrible value. I can get 5 God of War games, including GoW3 for less than that right now on PS3.

Supporting PS1 and PS2 games on PS4 would be a lot more valuable to me as a consumer. You could just offer digital versions of 1 and 2 as PS2 Classics on PS4. The system is certainly equipped to support PS1 and PS2 games, and since PS Now is not available to most of the world, it seems like it would have a much bigger market to appeal to.

I don’t see any reason to support an overpriced remaster like this and I hope that it does not become a standard practice for Sony.

  • Looks just like the PS3 game. I will be buying because I love GOW. I wish the gave this series the Halo MCC treatment though.

  • At $40 the remaster is a little pricey, but for those who didn’t have a PS3 this is definitely the deal to get! PS Now works surprisingly well and even though I have a lot of the PS3 catalog, if your an xbox aisle-crosser this is a great place to start.

  • Not for $40.

I can’t believe these words are about to come out of my mouth (hands, whatever), but you should really be following Capcom’s lead on this.

REmaster was priced perfectly. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is too. These are shining examples of good remasters, priced well.

A game that’s only five years old with minimal upgrades to resolution and framerate, for $40? That is not.

Come on, we’re not even a generation removed from these remasters having three (and even five) games in a single package for that kind of money. Did you think we forgot? ‘Cause we didn’t.

  • Are you guys gonna put the Ascension online into this? bc 40 bucks for a single player remaster of a 5 years old game its a total rip off.

  • Trophies? No pre-order exclusive stores?

  • God of War3 is my favorite ps3 game of all time but I seriously think these remasters are slowing down new IPs, I’m pretty disappointed at Yoshida and WWS approach this generation, I like the ps3 era sony, the one that played catch up to the competition almost the entire generation therefore we ended up getting some amazing games.

  • I realize it’s not up to Sony Santa Monica to make this call, but for anyone from Sony who is listening:

NO ONE WANTS DIGITAL “RENTALS” for PS NOW!

What Playstation gamers DO want (and have articulated many times here and elsewhere) is for PS Now to incorporate the libraries of content they already own into PS Now. In other words, if I’ve paid for GOW 1 and 2 through PSN, I should have some easy way to play them on PS Now without having to rebuy the content.

    There are two easy solutions:
    1) Set up a $2-3 “PS Now Upgrade” to digital titles, similar to what Vudu does with disc-based DVDs.
    2) Set up an annual subscription fee for $30-50 for something similar to (the now-shuttered, Sony-owned) OnLive’s CloudLift service, which allows gamers who have already paid for content to stream any of it via PS Now for nothing more than the subscription fee.

Either of these options might entice me to use PS Now. Otherwise, I have zero interest. It’s too expensive, inferior in specs (lower quality video), not optimized for mobile (fast broadband only) and not available on many devices. OnLive, at least, worked on Android and had great deals on available games.

  • PSNow Rentals? What a clever way to stop me from buying God of War on every possible platform.

  • Well I said the audience for Remasters is relatively small, but now I’ve thought a bit much about it and realized it’s even smaller:
    – Only preorders will have access to these rentals.
    – Whoever has low bandwidth won’t be able to enjoy these games normally, since action games with delayed input and subpar image quality will severely impact on your performance.
So making it free access to all the few hundreds of people who will probably take at worst a month to finish them will not affect PS Now’s servers that much to justify the need to limit rental time.

  • I’m really confused. Will people who pre order physical copies also get the theme? PSN buyers get the theme next week, but it sounds like you won’t give the theme at all to those who want a disc copy.

    • Re-read the top, we adjusted the blog slightly so it’s clearer. If you pre-order at retail, you WILL get the theme, at those supporting the program such as GameStop. Thanks!

  • Best way to get people to try out PS Now to play PS3 games on their PS4 yet

  • Neat. Thank you!

  • Come on, GOW 3 remastered? The game only came out 5 years ago in 1080p 60fps.
This is outrageous, who the hell would buy this? Enough of this remastered crap, just make new games and not ports.

  • Really should have GoW III and Ascension for $40. That would be worth re-buying.

  • Wow, they are serious about the whole Playstation Now thing. Cheering even more for the RPCS3 team now.

  • This is PS4,this is next-gen…PS3 games with photo mode.
Would like to have that theme though…but it ain’t happening.

@ 12 GoPens35 – It wasn’t even that great?…hmm GoW 3 is one of the best games ever made.Without taking in consideration the technical marvel that it is and that puts many PS4 games to shame.

  • This is a fantastic deal for people like myself. I’ve had every Playstation except PS3 and would love to replay the series leading up to finally experiencing GoW III on my PS4. I understand that the $40 price point isn’t great for someone who just played it on PS3 a handful of years ago, but that’s not really the target group for remastered editions. For new PS4 converts and others that missed out on great PS3 games, this kind of deal is superb.

  • I think the only game worthy of a remastered edition is Red Dead Redemption. The game would benefit the most I think.

God Of War 3 was ok, but will be passing on this.

  • GOW 3 wasn’t good .After I finished GOW 2 in 2007 I was desperately waiting for Gow 3 i didn’t have a PS3 until 2012 so once i finally played it it wasn’t God Awful is was God of War awful .

  • santa monica pls answer my question as a huge fan of sony!
i love god of war Ascension multiplayer.
and i want to play it on my PS4.
i bow down to the zeus so pls bring me this favorite

  • @34 Welmosca- To each their own, I felt I had done enough running down a cramped hallway killing things through the first 2 that one didn’t seem to offer anything different. As far as putting Ps4 games to shame maybe that says less about GOW3 and more about how the industry isn’t really putting new IP’s at the front of priority becuase they can make 40 bucks by releasing something everybody could buy since 2010.

  • I love GOW 3 on PS3 and would replay it on PS4, but you guys need to come down to $30 for it. If GOW 1&2 were included than the price would have been right. While a 90 day rental for GOW 1&2 might satisfy some PS4 owners, I actually want to own and play these on PS4 (digital or physical) whenever I want. I don’t want an option to just rent for 90 days.

  • Ascension Remaster on PS4 would also be welcomed.

  • Free Rentals – It’s a nice gesture but $40 should include all 3 games together. You sold GOW HD remakes before on PS3 as a collection so I would expect nothing less for PS4. Or lower your price to something reasonable.

As far as exclusive remakes are concerned where is Sony’s version of a Master chief collection?

  • I just want a “chapter select” option in the menu similar to Ascension?

  • I did Preorder this game two week ago, is am I still get this bonuses Or what?

  • It would be great if Ascension’s multiplayer would make it to PS4. I would easily buy that again just to play on the PS4. One of my multiplayer highlights of last gen along with Warhawk.

I seriously hope GoW’s multiplayer doesn’t begin and end with Ascension. It was/is such a great experience for a competitive change of pace from all the other multiplayer games out there.

  • I already own and played all the God of War games, I would have bought this and replayed it if the first two games were remastered as well, the game looks the same graphically and 60FPS isn’t much incentive to replay this on PS4. If you haven’t played the God of War games this is a great deal.

  • What #6 said. Better chance imo to sell something new rather than something old, old, old, outdated. All gows, also imo, where great minus ascension. The latter was huge let down that i shut off and lost some faith. Feels forced to the series and doesnt feel like it fits, again, imo. cash flow problems?

    • Why did you shutdown Ascension? At what point in the game turned you off, considering you played through every other God of War game of ours. Simply curious to know where our design steered you wrong. Thanks!

  • I’m surprised that you didn’t call this game God of War: Threemastered, because that would’ve been cool!

Other than that this game it lookin’ pretty good! I never played GOW 3, and I rarely play my PS3 anymore so this works well for me.

  • Will there be a trade-in option? As in we trade-in PS3 God of War III and get God of War III Remastered half off? That’s what Naughty Dog did with The Last of Us Remastered.

    • No plans for that right now. The best I can promise is i’ll send it as an idea to our retail group, thanks for the feedback as always.

  • Ok im unsure about 90day ps now rentals is that in UK aswell or just the US?
