Armello Coming to PS4, Inspired by Tabletop Games

Writing this post, the first thing that comes to mind is when myself and the other directors at LoG first came together and decided to set about making the best digital board game the world had ever seen. Seems crazy, now that I think about it. But we were always afflicted by a particularly blinding optimism.

Even still, I would never have imagined that game would show so much promise and have such a following that four years later I’d be here telling the world that Armello would be coming to PS4. We never were that optimistic.

However, today is that day. I can proudly announce that Armello will be coming to PS4 in September this year.

Set in a vibrant magical world with a tinge of darkness, our game, Armello, is a multiplayer digital board game that thrusts players into a Game of Thrones-esque struggle for power. You’ll select one of eight unique Heroes from the animal clans of Armello, and compete for the crown while the mad lion king terrorizes the Kingdom from the seeming safety of his Royal Palace.

Heroes start in their clan grounds and use action points to traverse the board. Each hex tile presents different consequences including mysterious encounters, exploring a dungeon, capturing a town for your clan or improving a Hero’s health. Players won’t just be battling each other as they move across the board on their quest for the crown though, horrifying Banes stalk the land and terrorize the local populace, and the King’s Guards aren’t unfamiliar with slaying a guard or two in the name of the ‘law’. Atop all this, you’ll have an arsenal of over 100 fully animated cards at your disposal.

After our successful Kickstarter campaign and a solid stint on Early Access, Armello’s community has helped us hone the game into the unique, polished and deeply thoughtful experience it is today. However, we’ve also been secretly working away on a PlayStation version of Armello that uses every inch of the console, with brand new high end assets, redesigned UI, and controls specifically designed to ensure feels right at home on PS4.

Oh, and the game already features an incredible soundtrack by Michael Allen and internationally acclaimed composer Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator, Baraka, Dead Can Dance).

Inspired by the classic adventure films and tabletop games of the eighties and nineties, the stuff we were raised on, Armello really is tabletop adventure brought to life.

If you like strategy, card, board or role-playing games, we can’t wait to put a PS4 controller in your hands and show you Armello on PS4, the first truly digital board game.

See you in Armello!

  • Looks pretty sweet, I might pick it up!

    C&G, what up?

  • This sounds great…can’t wait!

  • I like it. :)

  • C&G…would that be Colin & Greg Live over at twitch.tv/kindafunnygames?

  • Looks like this could be right up my alley….any chance we will get a demo or someway to play early?

    • Hey Aro! No plans for a demo, sorry.

      *looks left and right, whispers*

But if you want to jump in and help us shape what the game will be, it is available on Steam Early Access right now in an unfinished state.

      *raise voice again*

But yeah, ahem, you’ll definitely want to wait and only buy it on PS4. <3

  • Digging that short depth of focus.

  • I’m interested.

    Haha @SladerStudios & @forkfed.
    I hope so, that’s why I’m here :P

  • Hello again, Colin and Greg.

  • Oohh interesting. Getting a strong MageKnight vibe off those screenshots.

    • Funny story, that. About two years into development I started seeing board game reviews for some ‘Mage Knight’ game. Apparently it was amazing, so I thought I’d check it out. Turns out it has a few similarities. Definitely different games, but yeah some cool crossovers. And we didn’t even know it existed.

And now? Mage Knight is literally sitting on a table not 2 yards from my desk. ;)

  • Use this engine and give us a Catan game with expansions

Can’t believe we didn’t get one on a Playstation platform last gen. Xbox 360, 3DS, Android, iPod all got one :(

  • Ps Vita??

    • No dedicated Vita game, but we’ve got kits in the studio so we’ll be doing everything we can to make remote play as slick as possible.

  • As an original Kickstarter backer I’m extremely excited about this announcement! I’ve been playing this game for a while now and it’s been great seeing the game evolve before my eyes. Congratulations you guys on being able to bring your amazing game to an amazing console!

On a side note, do you know if you are going to offer any special “deals” to those of us backers that may want to have a copy for our PS4?

    Keep up the great work!

    • Hey Fitzroy!

Glad to hear you’re excited. We can’t wait to get it in your hands. The PS4 build’s really coming together. It’s gonna be a special way to play.

As for special PS4 treats for our backers, we’d obviously love to do everything to go above and beyond for our backers, but we can’t promise anything just yet as we need to spend a little more time with the platform and figure out what’s possible.

Oh and thanks for the kind words! <3

  • You serious? Was almost buying this game on PC, now Ill wait.

    Thats a nice news

  • A digital board game. Does that mean I would be able to sit on a couch with friends and play it with them?

    • We have not plans for local multiplayer right now, because the game is designed for clandestine affairs and ruses and should others see your cards and how you see the board, the jig would be up.

However, there will most definitely be online multiplayer. :D

  • Very cool! Maybe this can match the countless hours I spent with Carcassonne on 360 :)

  • For Redwall!

  • Sounds like a great idea. I play D&D quite a bit and I’ve been looking for a tabletop vidya game for a while. Any chance the ruleset will be customizeable? Or perhaps the ability to import rulesets? I know this would more than likely turn your game into a virtual table for other games like D&D or Space Hulk but it would be awesome nonetheless. Either way I’m looking forward to it.

    • This is a little our of scope for us. Armello is a very particular game we designed from scratch, this isn’t a tabletop simulator or sandbox, so-to-speak. It’s a game we’ve spent years honing into a very particular experience.

  • Hi! Greetings from Colombia, South America. I have a question for you guys. Armello will have a solo campaign? Or will be focused only on a multiplayer experience?

    • Hey! Greetings from Australia!

Armello has a single player mode against AI, but the single player and multiplayer modes are very similar. Armello was designed from scratch to provide something for both lovers of multiplayer and single player experiences (as our team is split right down the middle there too).

It’s hard to explain, but even in multiplayer, Armello still feels like you’re the hero of your very own adventure.

  • Really liking the art design.

  • Any chance of a single-player campaign? Also, what about multiplayer games on same ps4, couch multiplayer?

  • I am making a good salary from home 1500-3000/ Dollers week , which is amazing, under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day I was blessed with these instructions and now it’s my duty to pay it forward and share it with Everyone, Here is I started…

  • I got interested from the excellent soundtrack in the trailer. Description here sounds good.

  • HEY! thanks for the feedback and respond. You are awesome.

  • This is what my PS4 has been waiting for since I pre-ordered it. Thank you, kind sirs and madams.

  • The screenshots are nice, but folks should really check out this Armello teaser trailer, too:
