New Competition Begins in Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

Hello PlayStation Vita fans. On behalf of the Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines team, I am excited to announce the in-game competition we are calling Wailer’s Way.

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

Starting today, May 28th, and running until June 10th, there will be a newly named labyrinth called Wailer’s Way which is a special area with the goal to kill as many Oni as possible, and to reach a minimum specified score. Winners will receive a bundle of in-game prizes, so join in! All of the eligibility details for Wailer’s Way can be found on this forum post.

Not to be outdone by the in-game competition, beginning on May 28th and running until June 3rd, we are holding a sweepstakes for a chance to win one of these awesome signed Oreshika art books. The books are signed by the creator of Oreshika, Shoji Masuda and the character designer, Makoto Sajima. For all the details on this sweepstakes please go to this forum post.

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

Our team in Europe caught up with the game designer, Shoji Masuda, to find out six things you might not know about Oreshika. We hope you enjoy the little bit of fun facts.

1. How did Kōchin get her name?

Shoji Masuda: First, it comes from the English word “coach,” because she’s the character who coaches and guides players in the game. It also comes from the Chinese word for North Star. It’s fitting because the North Star doesn’t move and shines down on you, watching over you — much like how Kōchin watches over your clan as you go through multiple generations struggling against the curse placed upon them.

2. Do you have a favorite “last words” from within the game?

Shoji Masuda: For Oreshika, over 800 departing words were created for the game and my favorite one is “our numbers rise, our numbers fall, it is nothing more than the way of the world.” Those words perfectly represent what I felt the first time I held my firstborn in my arms.

3. What were some of the deciding factors in bringing the game to PS Vita?

Shoji Masuda: Oreshika is the type of game that you can pick up and play in a casual fashion — perfect for a handheld platform. Nowadays, people have an internet connection pretty much everywhere which allowed the dev team to add the function of players connecting their clans with other players’ clans and interacting with them wherever they happen to be.

4. Any tips for mating with the gods of Oreshika?

Shoji Masuda: If you’re a hardcore player who is focused on maximizing your stats, you can choose gods strategically. You could also pick them based on visual appearance. If you like the way a certain god looks, you’ll want to integrate their features into your clan.

By picking gods based on visual characteristics, it might take you a bit longer to clear the game because you’re not hyper-focused on status parameters, but it wouldn’t stop you from having a good time!

5. Kōchin moves a lot when sitting still. What brought about all of her animations?

Shoji Masuda: If it were a male character, we wouldn’t have been able to make as many actions as we did. The game character creator for Kōchin, basically fell in love with her as he was creating her. He just kept making more and more actions for her — he didn’t want her to be left alone.

6. Being able to see the loot prior to battle is unique. What inspired you to include that game mechanic?

Shoji Masuda: As you play this game, you have to think about future generations. In the game, your heredity — your character’s stats are passed on to the next generation. In the real world, a parent’s physical possessions and status in society are all passed down to children as well.

With that in mind, we wanted players to see, for example, that there may be an item that they won’t get in this generation, but maybe in the next, or maybe there’s a special item that is bequeathed to you by your parent, who also got it passed down from their parent. We wanted players to develop an affection and treasure the items that they have.

We’re excited to leave you with one more exciting announcement before we sign off… We’ve been listening to our fans and we are pleased to launch an Oreshika theme for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV, which will be available on the PlayStation Store on June 2nd!

And if you still haven’t downloaded Oreshika yet, the game is currently on sale on PlayStation Store for PS Plus members at $14.99 until June 1st.

  • 1. Sadly as game was never released properly in EU/NA I was forced to import Hong Kong version. Hence the question: is this even going to be available to Hong Kong (it’s in fact SCEE version of game)
    2. How much will cost theme?
3 Previous one released in EU should be deleted ASAP. It was disgrace! We could set wallpaper by ourself!
    4. Isn’t it too late to support game which you forsaken just after release? You abandoned it just like Freedom Wars. Never bothered to advertise it.
    5. Still… I love this game… that is why attitude of SCEE/SCEA makes me so angry.

  • picked the CE of asian english release . Cant wait for theme

  • @1, they did with Soul Sacrifice Delta. Dat abandonment feels. Didnt even give a theme.

  • Sony abandoned vita

  • I didn’t expect you would do a contest on this game, I’m pleasantly surprised because I really love this game and was thinking on picking back up where i left but now will definitively do it and participate to this contest.
I hope you keep working on this serie and (hopefully) localizing it like you did with this entry also game related themes for vita are always welcome in my book.

  • just bought the game last night but not going to play it in awhile because i have to play two games that comes before it :)

  • This game is amazing. I started playing but was afraid of making wrong choices, started a new game.

Question: this games keeps going after finished the campaign or it goes to new game plus? I restarted because of that, and to make a more to my kind of play family.

  • Cool, It’s time to go crazy in the new labyrinth

@5 It keeps going after you finished the campaign

  • @6 thanks for the answer, man

  • Thanks for continuing to support the game!

I haven’t played it much so far, but will definitely play it this weekend to check this event.

On a different note, is it possible to buy those art books somewhere?

    • Good luck in the competition.

The art books are a Japan only item. We managed to snag a handful of them and got them signed. We’ll be giving them all away in the Rock the Gods sweepstakes we just announced and some future things that we will announce later on. :)

  • Thanks for listening and releasing the theme!

If you ever interview Mr Shoji Masuda again can you ask why they decided not to include a map when inside a dungeon? Its my major gripe with this game since some dungeons are REALLY confusing (like the one with the candles) and i often find myself wasting a lot of time taking wrong turns.

  • I picked it up during the sale, but I’m still knee deep in Freedom Wars. But kudos for the continued support for Oreshika. I know some at Sony may see the Vita as a “legacy console,” but plenty of people (myself included) still love it, and hope to see more titles released for it.

  • Nice to hear that a Vita Oreshika theme is on the way.

I see that the sweepstakes are only open to U.S. residents. In future (be it for this or other games), could it be possible to add in Canadian residents also, or perhaps to run a parallel contest for fans in Canada?

  • oversevethousand

    Two questions:

1.) If someone hasn’t started the game yet, would there be a point to even attempting this, or is it just not viable if you haven’t played yet?

2.) Glad to hear about the Vita theme! Will be seeing other ones that Japan has had making the leap over to the West any time soon? I’ve been wanting the Soul Sacrifice one for ages.

    • One and a half answers:

1.) You need to reach a certain point within the game before you can see the Wailers Way dungeon but it’s not too far into the game. Once you get your ship then you can enter. At that point it’s worth giving it a shot to see how well you do.

2.) Glad you are glad about the Oreshika Vita theme! No idea about themes for other titles.

Good luck in the competition if you do attempt it! :)

  • Subsided_Assasin

Why announce a contest for a system that Sony officially calls a “legacy” system and completely abandoned

  • @15:

A recent clarification of that story has it that only the original OLED-screen Vita is now a “legacy” device. The current LCD-screen Vita Slim and PSTV models are unaffected by this change.

  • Hey thanks for doing this. Oreshika is such a gem of a game.

    • We’re glad you are enjoying the game. We have some other things planned so stay tuned! :D

  • @16
That’s just PR damage control spinning words around. There is no clarification needed.

  • Definitely glad I read this. Been waiting for this game to go on sale, and didn’t come across it on my usual hunt on Tuesday.

  • All the people whining about a great game on Vita getting some support…. SMH.

Seriously this blog has some of the worst comments from supposed “Vita Fans”.

From a quick trophy search you’ll find some of the most vocal ones barely even own any Vita games (or none at all) and are just here to try to stir up things or shed any negative light on Sony that they can possibly muster.

I know you Nintendo fans are all salty because you thought console gaming was dead when the Wii U failed, while the PS4 destroyed its lifetime sales within a few months.

PS blog should shut down the comment section. The “community” here is toxic.

    thats great

My last pay check was 9500 dollar working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do.. goo.gl/O0Tn65

  • Whe want even more games loke that! its a gooood game! please continue to suport our beloved VITA!!!!

  • Ahh, the Oreshika 2 experience has not been left to incomplete! I love you! All you who had a part in bringing this game over and now too part in making Wailer’s Way (nice naming) available also. Heh. <3

Though I got to admit that I am most curious which theme the NA store will receive. The Japanese theme's icons are incredible. Compared to that theme's incredible- Kochin-overload a preview of the theme the EU stores received was a little disappointing (got to be honest).

To all those interested in the artbook I want to say that it is very well done and, if artbook said are your thing, likely worth your money. It's a huge collection of coloured and b/w concept art (including unused and spoiler-y concepts), sketches, coloured art of in-game screens, comments of the art on nearly every page as well as tidbits of information that summarise and elaborates on what's going and who's-who on both Oreshika games.

Iirc, it's 3700 or 3800 yen (the book is thick and the paper is of good quality) if you're interested in acquiring it.

  • Would be really cool if Sony revived their other obscure RPG franchises in similar fashions. A new Wild Arms game on Vita would be really cool!

  • Going to pick this up this weekend, now that work insanity has calmed down (plus sale!).

Thank you for putting effort into making this a PSTV-friendly game. I currently only really am playing my VITA games on the tv, so it definitely is a huge selling point for me. :)

  • Shame the game was sent to die.

  • thats great

  • Must be a bunch of competition trolls around here….rating posts downwards. I say, disable the rating system.

  • Thank you for bringing Oreshika 2 over for us, it’s become one of my favorite games. I hope you continue to bring over more great vita games like this. Really a shame so few people know how impressive the Vita library is becoming.

  • I am making a good salary from home 1500-3000/ Dollers week , which is amazing, under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day I was blessed with these instructions and now it’s my duty to pay it forward and share it with Everyone, Here is I started,,,,,,
