PlayStation Underground: Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

Welcome back to PlayStation Underground, our online show about video games! Today, we go underground with Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, a poignant exploration of the apocalypse, and a snapshot of 1980’s England. For those looking for an emotional, story-driven experience, look no further than this upcoming PS4 project.

I get mellow on the couch with The Chinese Room Studio Manager Tom Turner, who guides me through an empty — yet somehow idyllic — English town that is left in the wake of a catastrophic event.

Tom discusses the team’s passion for the project, the evocative script, and the incredible, dynamic score that adapts to each player’s experience through technical wizardry I dare not attempt.

  • Ryan, I’ve gotta thank you once again for bringing this series back, giving us more in-depth looks at some great games. I personally am REALLY looking forward to Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture after how much I LOVED Dear Esther :-D

[ And to KF: Hope you guys have a smooth Colin & Greg Live on Friday :-) #KindaFunny #MomoCon #MouthGuy ]

  • Looks like a good game for Morpheus, I hope they make it so.

  • Really happy to see this game on PS Underground. Thanks Ryan! Really excited for this one.

  • Tons of respect for bringing back PS Underground and the episodes thus far but I think I have to skip on this one. I’ve been hearing so much about Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture that I want to go in as blind as possible to just settle into the experience. Afraid of some spoiler territory!

Keep up the great work Powerhouse!

    • Totally fair, thank you for stopping in anyway!

(Though we really don’t discuss any spoilers, I think it’s a pretty safe episode seeing as how I still don’t know what’s going on. lol)

  • This game looks really cool. I like these Playstation Underground segments too. They remind me when I used to get the PS1 disc magazine of it back in the day.

Also: Kudos to paulogy. He’s on top of these like a hawk. Hi KF!

  • CrusaderForever

Looks great, can’t wait to learn more. Keep up the outstanding work.

  • 15 people ? looks really well made and designed for such ah few ppl. anyways cant stand first person games but this looks like it was made well for this kind of setting.

  • Playstation Underground has a special place in my schedule. It’s awesome to hear what you guys have to say.

  • I didn’t knew we paid that much for diesel and unleaded back in 1984. Those prices is what we pay inthe UK in 2015. There must be a explanation for this. The game looks good, hopefully this should run at 60fps, I dont like 30fps games anymore.

  • I cannot wait for this game!!!!!!!!! Dear Esther is one of my all-time favorites. I just finished a trip to UK in Ether One and I’m eager to start another one in the 80s.

  • I don’t want to criticise the game to much. About the first person perspective, is it some sort of soul form your controlling. Because it doesn’t look real.

  • When does this game come out? And whats price?

  • Is this Flower 2?

    Or another hidden objects game?

  • WOW!!! this looks amazing!!!

  • @9 – Strangeheaven,
Back then prices were for a gallon of petrol – not a litre. It works out at around 31p a litre.

It is an uncanny representation of an English village. It was instantly recognisable from the opening shot.

  • This is exactly what the ps4 needs!! a fresh unique game where we can fully explore and figure out our own story…i can’t wait!

  • Why do I have to keep verifying my age? I’m already logged in into the PS site as well as youtube. Is there a way around this?

  • Sorry, but this game looks incredibly boring.

  • ^ I was about to say the exact same thing. I’d probably doze off in my chair trying to play this……

  • Doesn’t Rapture have a few Big Daddies lurking around? ;-). Good luck with the game. One thing I did not get from the video is if this will have puzzles like a Myst or or is the player is simply walking around looking into the lives of people who were there before the cataclysm?

  • This was really cool, Ryan! I´m so stoked for this game.. I´m very glad you had it on Playstation Underground

  • Nice touch with the Lorenz Attractor on the pavement in front of Yaughton Stores starting at 11:21. For those who haven’t delved into Chaos Theory this is one of the beautiful examples of dis-symmetry and order seemingly stemming from chaotic systems… or…. “a sensitive dependence on initial circumstances”. This tiny detail alone shows me the level of depth placed on the story should grab everyone’s immediate attention.

  • Talked me out of it around 12 minutes in. Bored to tears, thanks for saving me the cash!

Side note: it’s very frustrating to see events and effects happening onscreen that need explanation when the person narrating is so caught up in their conversation that they don’t even comment on what is going on. I kept saying WTF is that?? and they kept on about the team and the tech. A much shorter video with less talk would have been a lot more effective.

Also, why did I verify my age for that? It was decidedly G-rated.

  • RAPTURE reminds me very much of what HOME could have been only with a Twilight Zone atmosphere. I don’t know that the game is about but it might be worth buying if it has free roaming without being bothered by others and the option of being in that idyllic little village of beauty… and mysterious horror.
I fear though that I would soon tire of it if the homes were not enter-able. But then again, in the Twilight Zone TV series, the homes in such villages were sometimes closed to the stories characters.
Still, it looks like a nice place to go for a walk.

  • @cresswga

Oh I see. I thought the developers made a mistake. Thanks for the info, I never knew that.

  • When is this game coming out?!

  • Can’t wait for this game. Looks really interesting

  • Owenwithdemlols

  • Owenwithdemlols

    sorry wrong game lol

  • I’m waiting for the next episode to see Ryan’s new hairdo =D

  • I watched the long video and I still really don’t get this game?

  • This game really caught my attention, I can’t wait till it’s out so that i can play it!

  • Must be a bunch of competition trolls around here….rating posts downwards. I say, disable the rating system.

  • Game looks really nice!

  • I am making a good salary from home 1500-3000/ Dollers week , which is amazing, under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day I was blessed with these instructions and now it’s my duty to pay it forward and share it with Everyone, Here is I started,,,,,,
