Shovel Knight – Physical Version Coming to a Store Near You!

It’s been a year since Shovel Knight dug into the hearts of people everywhere. Can you believe it? With more than 700,000 copies sold and over 100 awards including many Game of the Year accolades, Shovel Knight’s phenomenal success is something we never dreamed possible. Now, we’re ready to take the next step: into the REAL WORLD!

That’s right! We’ve heard the demand, and now we have our biggest megaton announcement yet:

Shovel Knight is coming to retail.

Available on PlayStation 4

Pre-Orders should be live at your favorite retailer: Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Gamestop, Amazon… you name it! To make as big of a splash as possible, and to let retailers know that they need to stock up, you should definitely pre-order now! We’d consider it a huge personal favor; thanks in advance!

What’s in the box?!
The physical version of Shovel Knight contains everything we’ve released so far. First, there is the original Shovel Knight campaign with all the content you know and love! Also included is Shovel Knight’s first Content Update: Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Finally, there’s a full-featured Challenge mode with more than 50 crazy challenge levels to explore!

Of course, like the digital version, every boxed version will also receive FREE future updates as they become available:

Specter Knight’s Campaign – A full campaign starring the shadowy scythe spinner!
King Knight’s Campaign – A crazy campaign with the gilded goob himself!
Battle Mode – Duel with up to 4 players as your favorite heroic or villainous knight!
Body Swap Mode – Did you ever wish Shovel Knight was a lady, or Shield Knight was a dude? Well, now you’ll be able to change them all around, along with the rest of the cast!

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows – Coming very soon!

The wait for Plague of Shadows is almost over! It will definitely hit BEFORE the boxed version. We’re in the home stretch and are polishing every detail, pixel, and potion right now. Check out some screens before the final version is released:

Battle Mode Teaser

Even in the chaos of all this new stuff, we are still plugging away on new features, one of which is Battle Mode! Hopefully, Battle Mode can also be included in the boxed version of Shovel Knight on day one. Here’s a taste:

Oh, and one more thing: every boxed copy of Shovel Knight will include a lavish instruction booklet similar to the Kickstarter reward. No 2-page inserts here! You deserve a full manual, to hold in your hot little shaking hands and pore over as you wait to get home!

So glad to hear this. Its great to see how well this game has been doing. I bought it during a Steam sale and I don’t regret it. I’ll definitely buy the physical versions to show my support for this great game and dev team. Keep it up, guys! :)

  I would buy a physical version for the Vita if you make one at $19.99. I see that you are making a physical version for the 3DS but I don’t want to buy it for that device because I prefer my Vita and collecting trophies. If not I will just wait until the digital version is dirt cheap.

1. Will Plague Knight DLC have new trophies?
2. What’s the price for Plague Knight DLC?
3. Is the DLC gonna be cross buy?

So the digital PS3 will get the upgrade for free, but it will lack some features, right? Which features? At least the Battle Mode seems to be new-GEN exclusive. Looked forward to that since TowerFall won’t see a PS3 release.

I was a backer and have it on Wii U. A physical release is great news, but I too would really like a Vita copy. Especially with the game manual!

As someone who has purchased this on my Nintendo system and on my Sony systems I literally have no reason to purchase this other than for it to join my select few all-time favorite games on my shelf (along with Dark Souls, Super Mario 3, Super Metroid, Castelvania Symphony of the Night, etc). Absolutely can’t wait!

If you guys ever plan on releasing a PS Vita version, I’ll buy 3 copies of the PSVita version the moment the pre-order goes up, just to support it!

I’m glad to see a physical copy of Shovel Knight, but I wish you guys would have taken advantage of the Blu-Ray format a little and offer a little something extra for the 20% increase in price over the digital download version.

Some ideas might be:

1. Making of video vignettes (such as seen with Uncharted, God of War, Tomb Raider, etc..) Shovel Knight is just as epic!

2. Music arrangement player. I’ve heard some great arrangements of the tunes

3. A gallery of photos and drafts

4. Interviews with the developers and musicians involved with this.

5. The original game trailers including the Kratos and Battletoads unveils.

Just a few ideas, I’m sure you could think of more.

Are Vita carts that expensive? I can see if there wasn’t a Wii U version, because it has less units sold that the Vita, but it does. So I can only assume the only reason there isn’t a Vita version is because the cost to make them is more than you guys are willing to spend vs the potential return.

If that’s the case, Sony made more mistakes with the Vita than I thought. Which is sad. I would pick up a Vita copy in a heartbeat. I personally don’t really care about owning a physical copy on other platforms.

Sony could have at least put up some cash to help get a Vita version printed.

Will there be an PS3 Physical Release Copy after the release of the PS4? Remember; There’s more players on the PS3 than the PS4 at the moment. Plants vs Zombie got one, and Bejeweled 3 got it as well. those TellTale Games got them Hard Disc Even Duck Tales:Remastered got a Physical Disc Copy on the PS3. (All which I own) Come on Yacht Games, don’t leave The PS3 (who’s not jumping to the PS4) Crowd who prefers Physical Copies in the Dust.

Why $39.95 in Canada when MSRP is $19.99? I know the Canadian dollar is not strong against the US dollar right now, but it’s certainly not worth just 50 cents US.

Great way to lose potential retail sales in Canada, especially when digital version is just $14.95…
