N++ Launches on PS4 July 28th

I have been waiting for literally years to say this: N++ has a release date! We worked with Richard E. Flanagan to put together this fancy trailer for the announcement, so let’s let it do the talking:

Yes, N++ will be coming to your PS4 on July 28, 2015. As a special treat for PlayStation players, it’s a whopping 20% off if you pre-order in the next two weeks! Bonus: you also get an awesome N++ theme for your PS4.

[Aside: This kind of discount will not be happening much, so if you’re looking to get N++ on the cheap, now’s your chance! Actually we’ll be raising the price when the first big update comes out (it will effectively double the size of the game). More info on that soon ;)]

But back to the main event: we are so excited N++ is finally ready for release and we can’t wait for you all to finally get your hands on it — it is challenging, satisfying, and bursting with surprises. I can tell you with complete and enthusiastic confidence, N++ is the masterpiece we set out to make. It has turned out even better than we expected it to, and partly because of the N++ Beta we ran over the past few weeks.

N++N++

N++ has a built-in level editor so when you’re done playing the 2,360 levels in the game, you can go on to create your own levels. Every single level, including the ones made by players, has highscore leaderboards with replays. That’s a lot of data we needed to be sure works seamlessly!

The purpose of the Beta was to help us test the massively complex server-backend component to N++, which will allow you to share your levels with every other N++ player on PS4 throughout the world, and also to view replays of people playing your levels. It’s a good thing we tested it, because there were a lot of issues we’ve now fixed so that when N++ launches (On July 28th! Yay!), everything works perfectly. As an added bonus, you’ll get to play all the levels people made during the Beta!

N++

We also streamlined the UI, tweaked the graphics and added lots of polish. Beta players had great feedback, and it was really helpful to see how people approach the game. We were especially happy to hear only positive feedback on the way the game feels to play, which is something we’ve spent the last ten years very finely tuning. All in all, the Beta helped us make N++ even better, and it’s almost time for you to see what we mean!

There’s way too much to describe in one post, so I’ll go into more detail about N++ in the next few weeks. In the meantime, here’s a cool short video made by PlayStation Canada that helps you get a look at what N++ is, who we at Metanet are, and why you’ve just got to get your hands on this game.

That’s it for now — stay tuned for more info soon! In the meantime, if you have any burning questions about what you can expect to find in N++, let us know in the comments!

  • HOORAY!!! I never thought this day would. Pre ordering it immediately. I remember playing the original N game online back it in the and becoming quickly addicted to it. Thank you for bringing this to PS4!!! You guys rock!

    • I never thought this day would come.*
I remember playing the original N game online back in the day*

I was too excited to proof read my post lol.

    • Hooray! Thanks so much, we’re glad to hear you’re excited. You will not be disappointed, this game is epic.

    • Yeah right, twenty bucks and you’re going to RAISE it later? GTFO. That is the most idiotic thing ive ever heard. No chance im paying gor this.

      @ yowza

Good lord, dude, shut up already. Making a mountain out of every molehill… just how lonely are you? Find some friends, if you can. Sheesh.

  • Since you guys don’t seem interested in doing a Vita version (and at this point, given recent indie game trends there’s no guarantee it would actually come out) could you at least get the PSP version of N+ on PSN? I know Atari probably has some claim over that, but it’s not like they’re doing much.

    • we’re just a tiny team of three, so we have to be realistic with our time and resources. The good news is, if it sells well enough on PS4, we hope to be able to port N++ to Vita — we love the Vita and think it would be awesome to play N++ on it!

The N+ code is 6 years old at this point, and the company that ported it has long gone under (and so has Atari), so it probably doesn’t even exist anymore.

N++ is a MUCH better game though, so that’s what we’d be porting if given the chance. Fingers crossed!

    • Thanks for the answer and sorry for the snark. Wish you guys the best. :p

    • If Metanet can guarantee Cross-Buy from the PS4 version purchases, I’m sure plenty of Vita users would buy it knowing that they won’t be double-dipping just to get it for their systems.

  • Going to pre-order this the second it’s up on the store. Incredible trailer, btw! Only one quick question: price?

Thanks for all your hard work. Can’t wait to see it for myself!

    • Thanks so much! We’re so happy with that trailer, it’s so fun. Raigan’s music is so upbeat and perfect alongside Richard’s mograph! We love it when collaborations come together perfectly :)

Price will be revealed soon :)

  • Well… I guess I need a PS4 now.

  • Oh god… I think I’ve seen a lot of cheap indie games but this thing is on another level.

Does Sony have any quality control at all?

    • What on earth are you talking about? This game is incredible, so are the previous games from this developer.

    • Sony does have quality control, yes. That’s how it gets great games like N++ on the system. Sorry you’re unable to see past the atheistic.

  • I never played a game in this series. This looks like a good first game then! Looking forward to it. :) Will definitely pre-order it this weekend when I cash my check.

  • I’m very excited for this game, especially the local co-op and multiplayer vs. modes I kinda recall hearing about. Will those be in at launch?

    • Yes they will! With 300 brand new levels for each MP mode, and 120 Legacy levels for each. Plus easier Intro levels so you can learn how to play (and how to strategize :D )!

  • I’ve been looking forward to this for a bit, but now i’m really excited for it. Can’t wait to play!

  • Literally bought a PS4 for this game and I have been waiting patiently since. Yay!

    • Thanks so much for your patience — we are completely positive it will have been worth the wait :)

  • Trying to figure what exactly this game is, I’ll be doing a little research on it. looks interesting for sure! Good luck

  • Finally! I’m so excited (*____*)

Any info about the bonus theme for EU?

  • Looks like Colecovision only with more primitive graphics. I love early 80s games that look like early 60s games.

  • I have been waiting for this game. What a pleasant surprise to see that it will be released this month and with a discount as well! I can tell that you all have poured a lot of time, energy and most of all love into N++ and I can’t wait to experience it with my friends and kids. The music also sounds amazing. Congrats on the release!

  • OH, MY GOSH, METANET!!! This is the best news ever! I have been waiting so patiently for N++, and I honestly bought a PS4 specifically for this game. N+ was one of my favorite games on the 360, and I played that game for hours on end. I played N all through college and after, and I still have it installed on all of my computers. I have an N+ button on my satchel, and I still wear my N+ t-shirt like there’s no tomorrow.

Tell me when you will sell N++ t-shirts, and I promise I will throw more money at you guys! You have my loyal support until the end. You guys ROCK!

  • Preordering day one!! And REALLY hope it comes to Vita.

Question: will it have a platinum trophy????

  • #BetterPSN

  • xXCRAZYxWIZARDXx

hello, awesome trailer xD can i pre order on australian account? :)

    • thanks! I don’t think so, I think the promotion is only in the US/Can. But you’ve only got 2 weeks to wait! :D

  • Incredibly excited to finally play this! I have been trying to spread the word about it and tell all the people who are unfamiliar with N+ that they NEED this in their life. Thank you for pouring so much time and energy into this gem!

One question, can I play as Gordon Freeman? ;P

  • I couldn’t be more happy with the games coming out for PSN Play I will buy all of them of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I CAN’T WAIT

  • OH. MY. GOD. It’s finally here. Thank-you Metanet!

  • Whats the price bruh?

    • 19.99 with a 20% pre-order discount for PS+ members. But note that the price will probably increase when we release the first massive update!

  • Thank you Metanet, sincerely, thank you! And not just for N++, but also for N and N+. You are great role models for other indie devs. I look forward to the future of Metanet Software and N++ :)

  • The inertia-based physics are not my favorite, which is why this game will not likely knock off Meat Boy as the best platformer. However, this looks like a very strong game that I’m sure Metanet put a lot of work into. I will certainly be getting it; and subsequently hating it once the carnage commences. I’ll then love the game upon completing it. Oh, the emotions that platformers bring out!

  • Loved N+ on Xbox 360. Looking forward to playing this sequel/update (I don’t actually know which it is, but I’m excited nonetheless).

    • It’s a little from column A, a little from column B — but really it’s rewritten from the ground up, which is kind of more like column C :)

  • Was an addicting game on the pc. Thats ah good amount of levels plus user created content is a nice topping.

  • I’m so excited for N++! I first played N way back in 2006 on dial-up and poured tons of hours into it trying to perfect as many levels as I could. I unfortunately never picked up N+ because I didn’t know about it for a long time, but I’m excited to have more N in my life very soon. Thanks for all the hard work you’ve put into this. I look forward to swearing at my television as I explode in pieces! Preordering now!

  • My sister and I played this at the PlayStation Experience event in las vegas last year and we didn’t want to give up our controllers. Played this since the PC version and can’t wait to pick this up with a 20% discount :) (thanks for that). I can hear my sister screaming with joy when I forward this news to her.

    • That is so cool to hear, thanks so much! You and your sister will not be disappointed, it’s come a long way even since December!

  • Any chance of a limited physical release, a la Retro City Rampage? (And yes please for a Vita version!)

    • It’s unlikely. Physical releases are expensive to produce, and the demand is so low it’d be a pretty huge financial risk to undertake. Unfortunately as a team with such limited resources, we have to make tough choices.

  • I have no idea if this game interests me or not. Perhaps the next trailer could focus on gameplay?

  • YES!!!! I’ve been waiting for this since they announced it. Had a ton of fun with N+ on the 360. Pre-ordering this right away. Can’t wait to get my ass handed to me and let the rage flow.

  • I read the article and still have no idea what kind of game n++ is. A brief description for readers who have not heard of the game before would be nice .

  • Huh? I’ve never heard of this game what makes it so great?

  • Huh? I’ve never heard of this game what makes it so great? Trailer looks dope and funny with the caffinated beverage part.

    • Well mostly, it’s about the speed and dynamics of being a ninja. N++ is an action-puzzle platformer that feels great to play. It’s about tight, tuned controls that allow you to pull off amazing, acrobatic moves while running for your life away from homicidal robots. Pretty standard ;)

It’s set in a world where almost everything will kill you, so you gotta be on your toes. Basically the only thing that won’t kill you is the gold, which you need to live. Just like in real life ;p

It’s incredibly challenging, but it’s a very fair game, so deaths are eg. not due to the physics screwing up, but are due to mistakes you made — which is also what makes it so rewarding when you finally beat that level you’ve been stuck on: you knew what you did wrong and you fixed it. Very satisfying.

There are thousands of levels spanning Solo, Co-op and Competitive Multiplayer (Race), with leaderboards and replays, and a built-in level editor so you can make your own levels. It’s got something for everyone, and all of those things are really fun.

      That’s it in a nutshell!

  • So will this be coming to the Oceanic/New Zealand storefront on the same day?

  • I already pre-ordered and am really excited to play! My only question – are there achievements, and how insane are they?

    • There are, and they range from extremely easy to extraordinarily difficult. We tried to have fun with them though, and create some interesting challenges. Hopefully we’ll be able to say a few more things about the trophies soon!

  • Yessssss! I’m so psyched for this launch! WOOOOOOOO!

The moment I heard N++ was releasing on PS4 in 2013 I knew that I had to pre-order it the moment I was able to. Now the time has come, and I’m sooooo ready for this!

Whenever my friends and I were talking about upcoming releases that we’re excited for, I’d always bring this up and have to explain the concept to them because they were so interested in the name itself haha.

  • Will co-op and races be able to be played online?
