Vote to Play Begins Thursday, Help Decide Next PS Plus Lineup

Today, we’re pleased to announce the games that will be part of Vote to Play — our special promotion that enables PlayStation Plus members to vote on one of three PlayStation 4 games for next month’s PS Plus game lineup. All three of these games would be a great addition to our lineup, and we want to put the choice in your hands when voting begins on Thursday, August 13th.

Without further ado, here are the games on the ballot.

Armello

A grim fairy-tale board game come to life, combining deep, tactical card play, rich tabletop strategy, and RPG elements. Set in a vibrant magical world with a tinge of darkness, Armello thrusts players into an epic struggle for power as they quest, scheme, explore, vanquish monsters, perform the mad king’s royal edicts, and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello.

Grow Home

You play BUD (Botanical. Utility. Droid), a robot on a mission to find the Star Plant and save his planet. Discover a strange open-world: a planet of floating islands, with precipitous drops, caves and waterfalls to navigate, all rendered in a minimalist but beautiful art style. Grow the giant Star Plant and use your unique climbing abilities to reach ever higher ground, but be careful as you ascend because one wrong move and it’s a long way down!

Zombie Vikings

From the creators of last year’s indie hit Stick It to The Man! comes a new co-op, four-player stab-you-in-the-gut-a-thon with a dead-funny adventure. Hack through the boiling gingerbread swamps of Molgaga, take a cruise through the intestines of the Midgaard Serpent, fight giant troll poultry, and find out how Söccer was really invented.

Voting starts Thursday, August 13th at 8:30 AM Pacific (update: we are currently tracking for 10am Pacific Time) and ends Monday, August 24th, at 8:30 AM Pacific. The final result will be revealed after voting closes. If you’re a PS Plus member and you want to cast your vote, simply log on to PS4 with your PSN account, and access Vote to Play under “What’s New,” “Notifications,” or visit the PS Plus section of the PlayStation Store, where you’ll find details for Vote to Play.

The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our September free game lineup, and PlayStation Plus members can get the two runners-up at a discount. We can’t wait to see what PlayStation Plus members decide for September in our first Vote to Play event. We’ll have more events in the future, so stay tuned.

You can find more information about Vote to Play here, along with the benefits of being a PlayStation Plus member.

So tell us, what game are you planning to vote for?

  • All indie games, pretty soon youre gonna run out of these indie games that cant sell to people. Smh and i predicted this as soon as i seen it.

  • OMG I love these videos. I’m torn between Grow Home and Zombie Vikings. I will likely buy one or both if they dont get chosen. I think my vote may go to Grow Home though. What a neat program, I can’t wait to see some more great videos in the future from devs. You got our attention!

  • I must say I’m a little dissapointed about the games to vote… I was specting some retails A+ games but this… anyway this is start of the program and I wish we can vote in the near future for some better games…

  • I vote for better games in PS Plus, these ones are just…
    Horrible.

    • Me too. If they are going to give us horrible choices, they might as well just name them than pretend we are given a choice. This is likeNorth Korea saying they have a 100% voting rate and 99.9% voted for the fat kid who is killing everyone.

  • You could swear the voting has already begun hehehehe.

Good luck to all you PS4 owners :)

  • Grow Home will probably get my vote. :)

  • They all look pretty good. Why can’t we get all three of them for next month?

I hope you guys bring over more games like Homesick, Dream, Subnautica, Darkest Dungeon, Don’t Starve Together, and more. Especially Subnautica. We need more deep sea exploration games!

  • NONE ALL OF THOSE GAMES ARE INDY BOOOOOORRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG

I HAVEN’T RENEWED MY PS+ IN A LONG TIME AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WONT BE RENEWED ANYTIME SOON

    • Sucks to be you, all these games have value and look great, and I can personally speak for Armello being an amazing game as I have been alpha and beta testing it since early this year on PC. I guess you’re only satisfied by shooting things? =P

  • Zombie Vikings !!!!!!!!!!! I played it at games com, it´s a lot of fun

  • 100% GROW HOME!. I am gonna buy it if it doesn’t end up on PS+.

  • Zombie Vikings!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 player co-op BRAWLER!!!!!!

  • Zombie Viking all day!!! Matter of fact I’m having my whole work place vote for this game !!’

  • I’ve got no problem paying for Grow Home. I’ve heard so much about it.

  • As much as I like the What’s New section it is also the most unstable part of my PS4 experience. I see “Cannot Load” as often as I see things sometimes.

  • So how many games are free per month now? Just one?

  • Armello all the way. PLEASE don’t vote for a zombie game just because it has Zombie in the title. Have some imagination.

And Reflections, you were GREAT in the 80s with Shadow of the Beast, etc, what the heck happened? YOU should have been the ones to bring back Shadow of the Beast, with Ubisoft backing.

    • I’m with you on the Armello vote and I’m asking everyone that can to post it to their PS Plus friends on all social media, we need them to vote in the PS Store and move Armello into first place.

It would be great to get this game for free “http://armello.com/” and I think if we push hard enough maybe we can help it move up the ranks.

I’m not opposed to the other two games, but I really love the look of Armello.

  • All three look really great. I want to play them all, but I will probably vote for Armello. I can’t think of any other tabletop-style strategy games on the PS4.

    • There are a few decent strategy games on the PS4 but we do need more like Armello. If you like the look of it please vote, and spread the news of it on other social media in order to gather more PS Plus voters into the PS Store.

“http://armello.com/” Looks great and I have repeated it many times here and hope to see others do the same.

  • Armello… without blink…

Looks very fun to play alone or with friends…
    And i love board games…

    • I’m in to play some board game/strategy games with you :) Armello looks fun and the more people we bring attention to it the larger the pool of PS4 Armello players we will have to play with.

Hoping to get “http://armello.com/” out to all your PS Plus friends… I just want it to succeed!

  • Armello!!

  • I always say that playstation plus great because I can play games that I would normally not buy, so maybe Armello in that matter, then again if the game is to hard to get it, it can be awful, a board game for me is a game easy to begin but hard to master, so it may be that or it may be just hard enter and harder to master and that’s wel that can be bad if I want to invite my friends to play.

Grow home might seem like the most appealing, but I feel like it can be easy to get bored.

Zombie Vikings can be great for couch coop.

    DECISIONS DECISIONS

    • I would love to sway you to Armello :) and we need the votes at the moment. Take a look at their site “http://armello.com/” it looks like a very solid and easy game to learn, but has enough depth to replay over and over.

      Hoping for it to win

  • No offense to indie gamers, I absolutely love most indie games, but this looks like garbage, The stuff we don’t vote on is better than this. They look like games I could find clones of for free online anyway. Armello looks like a game that could be advertised on facebook it looks shoveld out with almost no effort put into it.. And Zombie Vikings is just a cheap knock-off of Castle Crashers/Charlie Murder/Scott Pilgrim (All of which look superior to his) with zombies thrown in so YouTubers with fake hyper personalities can play it to get little kids to give them views.

    • Grow Home is the only one I’d even consider downloading.

    • Excuse me sir, I wish to correct your view on Armello. Having been an Alpha and Beta tester, who’s kept in pretty close contact with the devs; I can assure you 100% that they put their heart and soul into this game. It wasn’t just “shoveled out with no effort” they’ve been tirelessly and lovingly crafting Armello. They’ve been taking suggestions and bug reports thru-out the entire developing process. It has come a long way since it’s inception and if you just check out their forums or Steam discussions you can clearly see that. I hope this changes your mind!

    • I have to second what CatStoleTheCrown has said, anyone who has ever played Armello can see that the devs have put so much love and hard work into the game. Please consider watching some more videos on Armello other than the one on this page, perhaps it will change your mind.

  • Armello for me.

  • Nothing here sparks my interest, maybe there will be a better line up one the PS3 or Vita i’ll just vote for zombie because well it involves zombies.

  • Grow Home. Nothing quite like it out there. Innovation gets my vote.

    Hi!

I’m Klaus Lyngeled, head honcho and Creative Director at Zoink Games. We made Zombie Vikings :)

We’re really excited to be a part of the Vote to Play campaign. We released our previous game Stick it To The Man on PS+ in 2013 and it was really well received. Now we’re about to release Zombie Vikings which is although a completely new game it shares both the same art style and whacky humour that we’ve had in our other games. We really think you will like it.

Zoink is a small indie developer from Sweden, the land of fermented herring, IKEA and vikings. We wanted to make a game about one of those three things and I think we picked the right subject. I mean, who doesn’t like vikings? We love games that can be played together. Friday night, pizza, a bunch of friends on a big comfy couch and a great game… being an old-school hack’n’slash, Zombie Vikings fits the bill perfectly.

If you think Zombie Vikings looks cool we would really appreciate your vote in this campaign. If things go well we could maybe make that fermented herring game I mentioned above. Check out this new trailer we just released – https://youtu.be/CftvWIoui0Q

Comment if you have any questions :)

    Stab you later!

    Klaus Lyngeled,

    • Nice trailer…is the game online-only?

    • In the EU blog you said that you were also hoping to release the game for PS Vita. Do you have an approximate on when that version could come out?

Also, any chance the game could also come out for PS3, for our fellow PS3 owners?

    • Hi Klaus! I loved the fact that each developer produced a video pitching their games to us, and I liked your team’s video the best. Really looking forward to play it on PS4!

    • Love seeing Dev’s online, thanks for taking the time to be here and join the community. We are all better for having more choices :)

  • zombie vikings it’s more of my style and my friends too we all would play it and grow home seems pretty cool

  • These options are all terrible, where are the good games?

Should be at least one retail game on the list, many ps4 games are only 20 dollars these days so the cost isn’t an issue when many indies come out for 15-20 and those end up as IGC rentals.

As long as we still get our 2 PS4 games for the Rental Collection and this is a third option than ok I can live with it.

if vote to play garbage is replacing one of our two monthly games, then once again, as usual, Sony has made a massive mistake.

  • Side topic. I couldn’t install GOW Ascension because of its massive install size. Shouldn’t I be able to get it for free using PS Now?

  • The “none” option is to let Sony know that there was a vote but there was nothing interesting to vote for. If you just dont vote, it shows that everyone liked the choices. As for “why vote if you dont have a PS4?”, simple… you can tag Free games for your library via app/website to d/l when you do get a PS v/3/4(thats what I did befor I bought a PS4), so vote if you want to!

    • I totally agree that a “None of the above” option is needed. I like this round of games, but if I didn’t I would still like my vote to be counted.

  • Grow Home all day,c’mon people vote for Grow Home.
The videos were all pretty cool…at 1st I thought this was a bad idea but nice initiative Sony.
Also great that its 3 new games…really cool just hope Armello don’t win, really boring as games goes.

  • This is great, and hopefully the runner-ups each month will always enjoy a discount for PS+ members!

  • Can we vote for PS3 games as well? I don’t own a PS4.

  • Very disappointing. None of these interest me in the least. How about an option to abstain?

  • For me fellow PS Vita owners, Zoink is hoping to bring Zombie Vikings to the PS Vita, as per a comment on the EU PS blog, so you might want to vote for that one hoping for it to be crossbuy like in the case of Stick It To The Man.

That being said, I dislike how this voting only includes PS4 games. I really hope later votings include PS3 and PS Vita games, or I’ll just skip them.

    Welmosca

Zombie Vikings is 1-4 player with both online and offline play. You can play however you want. :)

  • More than likely I would vote for Armello. For everyone else about the voting and selections of games your right your entitled to your opinion. However, this doesn’t dismiss anyone’s ignorance or why we have more free indie games then blockbuster games. PS4 has only been out for about 2 years or less. Most of the games they had released all still collecting revenue until of course later.

PS3 of course when PS+ started had tones of good AAA games here and there; However, time has already passed for most of the good games that are released, and it is up to the developer that wishes to give their game up for free. Not against anyone’s decision but be as it may these indie games here. If I was a young developer, I would feel honor to at least have a game on Playstation rather then having it cache on my computer.

    Cheers!

    • Hoping to see you in Armello :)
It has my vote and I’m trying to spread the word in other places to pull more PS Plus voters to the PS Store to vote for it and move it up the ranks. “http://armello.com/” I think it is a great game with lots of replay.

  • After watching all 3 trailers Grow Home has my vote. And for those thinking we should vote for AAA games………Did you think it was really going to be that easy lol smh

  • Hate digital board/card games but Armello caught my fancy. Will be voting for that if possible. For those that are just too lazy to actually look up the choices instead of seeing “Indie” on title and thinking its a 2bit side scroller here is a freebie for you to look at:

    http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/unfinished-armello-08062015/2300-10593/

Definitely worth it, a 4x style board with D&D dice combat and cards but with full animation and flourishes.

    • It looks great “http://armello.com/” and I’m trying to show it to others who might not normally give it a chance because of the ‘indie’ tittle or the ‘board game’ stigma or fear of the complicated strategy.
I think it would be great to see many more players vote for a game with such potential. See it for free would be frosting :)

Hoping to see you in game

  • I knew this vote would end up being a whole “vote for your next indie game”. This is a joke Sony. There are other games besides indies, hell go back to showing some love to the Vita with classic Ps1 & Psp games and i will be happy. Until that happens I will pick option 4, not to vote.

  • Zombie Vikings all day. I’m voting Zombie Vikings

Zombie Vikings is a legit game been in development a while, a full 10 hr campaign with singleplayer up to 4 player co op.

Might have a Platinum, hack n slash fun.

  • Don’t get me wrong. I really support indies but if you do a vote to play we expect at least some AAA games in the line up to choose.

  • Us: PlayStation, we’re tired of you guys over saturating the IGC with indie games. Please give us more AAA titles.

PlayStation: We’re going to give you a choice to vote for your monthly Plus game. Now which of these indie games do you dislike the least?

Really?? This is not a valid selection, Sony. There’s no point in even voting. This is a joke.

    • Amen.

    • This guy knows what he’s talking about!

Hey sony! Think about hiring this one, we need some brains up in there.

    • I bet only Indie game developers are the ones interested to offer their games up like this, while the devs who make AAA titles would rather not. In any case, you’re missing out, I can personally speak for Armello being an amazing game.

    • So a little education here:

Now just focusing on the games and NOT counting the other features of PS+ such as online play, uploading saves to online storage, etc. here is what you pay for. (This is going under the assumption of a $50 1 year membership.)

      $50/12 months = $4.16 a month, $4.16/6 games = $0.69 per game a month

So more simple math shows it would take about 58 MONTHS to pay for a older AAA title costing about $40. Thats almost 5 YEARS!

Now more complicated math would show that every month you are a playstation + member you are actually paying LESS than $0.69 per game as you are paying to keep ALL other games from the months since you started your subscription. (again, not counting the other perks of PS+). That math would show that in almost an infinite amount of time your subscription would not pay for a $40 AAA game, or even a $20 indie game for that matter.

So stop being entitiled, your litterally getting games for pennies on the dollar. If you dont like it. Stop subscribing and use that $50 on a older AAA game and loose out on 72 games a year plus all of PS+ other perks. Check your privilege.

  • Grow Home for sure :D

  • Should note, the chances of getting AAA title hinges on the success of this new program. IGC wasn’t that great when it first started, but it picked up steam much later down when there was a huge library of old games no one remembers playing. This console hasn’t even nearly gotten that far along in this generation to mature in its choices. This is something that will come slowly but this gen has just started and we are wanting it offer the same line up as the PS3 had towards the end of its cycle. Patience is a virtue, you cant just snap your fingers from the side lines and expect things to just happen with no rhyme or reason.

  • Would just like to express my support for a “none of the above” option to get a more accurate assessment for the enthusiasm for these titles.

    • Yes.
They do need a “None of the above” option for voting. I like all three games this round, and voted for Armello “http://armello.com/” but if I didn’t like any of the choice I think I should be counted. If all they offered were sport games I would would really appreciate being able to say constructively none of those interest me.

    + Hakumen__

The game isn’t coming to PlayStation Vita at the moment. Maybe some time in the future but not now :)

  • Seriously awesome choices! Thanks, Sony. I´m kinda torn here. Grow home looks AMAZING but so do the other two. I´m leaning towards that one but Zombie bikings has a great feel as well. Armello´s board game likeness is not really up my alley but still looks interesting.

  • Armello it is!

    • It is still early, but Armello is really behind at moment. If you are on any other social media, post it for your PS Plus friends to come to the PS Store and vote for “http://armello.com/” so we can get it for free.
Great looking game and I really want as many players playing it as possible.

  • Maybe this want such a great idea. The only thing it did is make me want next month to go by quickly in hopes we get better choices. Personally none of the get my vote.

    • You just ignored all the comments that expressed what a good idea this is.

      Why did you do that?
