Welcome back to PlayStation Underground, our online show about video games! Today, we fight Stormtroopers on Tatooine and AT-AT Walkers on Hoth in Disney Infinity 3.0. Yes, we spend most of our time in the world of Star Wars, which is fitting given the imminent launch of the Rise Against the Empire playset on September 29th!

Our supremely special guests John Vignocchi and Sean Patton from the Disney Infinity team go underground with us to cover the basics… and throw Jawas into Sarlacc pits. We also take PlayStation exclusive character Boba Fett for a spin, pilot the Millennium Falcon through an asteroid field, and wield lightsabers with reckless abandon. The Jedi would not be proud of us…

    Great show. As a older “hard core” gamer, I have to say this game has been great. I heard a lot about how the previous Disney Infinity games were for kids, but after watching game play videos from E3 and more, I had to pre-order. I don’t regret it for a second. I’ve been wanting a good Star Wars action game for a long time. This is easily the most fun I’ve had with Star Wars since Force Unleashed. Players of Force Unleashed will feel right at home with this game. The combat is outstanding.

    With my preorder, I got Toybox Takeover as a bonus which is outstanding. Its like a single player campaign for the Toybox and has an random dungeon mode which is awesome. The Toybox Hub is a great addition to Toybox that makes it so easy to figure out what you can do with your Toybox. I made my first Toybox this week (sort of an Infamous style Tatooine battleground), and it wasn’t hard at all.

    I’ve already got a list of figures, playsets, and discs to get. I’m hooked! haha

      ArchAngeL-777 — I’ve been on the fence about this one for awhile despite the good reviews, but you’ve sold me on this!! Thanks for the comparison to The Force Unleashed, which I agree had the best combat in any Star Wars console game.

      This is by far my favorite PS4 game. I think the people who think it’s only for kids don’t appreciate how deep and complex the toy box really is. There are tools for creation there that are beyond the capabilities of most people and require an immense amount of thought to get running correctly. It’s very much a game for everyone, but if all you’re doing is playing the play sets, then you’re only scratching the surface of what Infinity really is.

    Doctor_Hank_Pym – I think you’ll like it if you liked Force Unleashed combat. They also did a great job spreading out the force abilities so that each character feels very unique. For instance they show Luke using a force pull in the video. Ahsoka has a force push instead. Each one has their own unique combos, a combo finishing move, and a special power.

    Also, the great thing about Infinity, if your unsure about buying the Saga bundle, is you can just buy the Twilight of the Repubilc start set to start with. That still gets you the Toybox as well. If you like it you can add on more sets and expansions individually. Boba Fett will be available individually in January they said.

    Love the game, guys. We bought the Boba Fett pack for my “7 year old” *coffocff* and I immediately went out and got all the characters. I’ll be getting Vader, Chewie and Han soon but the wife is resisting. But she will succumb to the dark side! I got a Walmart Only Kanan (Star Wars Rebels) but is there a Rebels play-set coming out?

    Foul play PS4 game is not on the psn store through the ps4 i had to buy it on psn through the web page store and then go to my downloads list but it said its the vita version also but its not showing on my vita or ps4 download list as a vita game also . Any way i had some one ask if i was a tester because they wanted to buy it and it was not out yet and i told them no i found it on psn web page and bought it that way so are there other games were all not seeing that are only up on the web page psn store and not ps4

      I recently purchased foul play through the ps heroes app (which linked to the store). There was a promotion with buying that game for a varied price & having a chance to win a trip to psx. However the promotion has ended & went to the store on another account to see what the real price was & couldn’t find it in store. If you want to play send me a friend request…

    Loved Disney Infinity.
    Especially your Christmas sale, that marked them down considerably.

    Even went and bought more figures afterwards, just to show my support.

    But,
    this whole Toybox idea working with only certain characters, combined with the cost of the characters and and play set pieces is slightly enormous.

    Add that you needed a placement pad for a mobile device (Vita, and what kept me from buying), along with my kids losing interest in it quickly, to play Destiny and Minecraft, and you might see why I am hesitant to buy it again this year.

    Lose the classic, 2.0, and 3.0 restrictions, and chances were, it was a sure thing.

      There are no character restrictions in the Toybox that I know of. Any 1.0 or 2.0 characters should be able to play in the Toybox and Toybox expansions like Toybox Takeover and Toybox Speedway. I’ve been playing with Mr. Incredible in the Toybox and Toybox Takeover, and he’s a 1.0 character.

      The only restrictions are on the individual playsets. So only Star Wars characters can play in Twilight of the Republic or Rise Against the Empire. Only Inside Out characters can play in the Inside Out playset. Characters from 1.0 and 2.0 cannot play in those playsets.

      I haven’t played it since the first few days after we bought it, and was pretty confused already when buying them.
      I bought a Lone Ranger playset, with Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel, only to find out later it wouldn’t work with them.

      So it was playsets that I meant, and not toybox.
      My apologies.

      Still may refrain this year, since I do not want to buy 3.0 as a newer expansion for characters that can only be used in certain versions/playsets. But you never know. If you have another Christmas sale, I may have to do it anyway.

      Just wish my kids were as keen on playing it, as they were on buying it.

      And a quick question,do pads still work for every version?

    Seeing you guys play it makes it look like a lot of fun. I would love to try it. My only problem is the amount of money I would have to shell out just to be able to play with other characters. I’ll wait to play it… or just give up on wanting to play it.

    The price definitely is holding me back, and the fact that I don’t understand how the system works. I’m used to games where you download the digital version and play or insert the disk and play. I don’t know what the set pieces are for in Disney Infinity. Is there a youtube video or web site that explains how the system works in detail?

      The system works by having the Disney Infinity 3.0 game plus a PS4 compatible game base that plugs into the USB port. You place the game pieces (playset figures and character figures) on the game base. Whatever you put on the game base is the character and playset that you can play. There are 3 slots on the game base, 2 for player characters (for split screen coop) and one slot for playset pieces. The character slots are circular in shape and the playset slot is a hexagon shape, so its easy to tell what goes where.

      The Toybox they are talking about comes with the game itself, and does not need a playset figure to activate.

      So when you saw them in the video playing as Boba Fett, then swapping to Luke Skywalker, it’s because they took the Boba Fett figure off the game base and put the Luke figure on the game base. In order to play the missions they were playing like Hoth, they had the Rise against the Empire playset piece on the game base.

    How do you get the base, etc? You buy a Starter pack. The Starter pack is comes with the Disney Infinity 3.0 game (Toybox included), the PS4 compatible game base, the Twilight of the Republic playset, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano. That starter pack is $65.

    The Saga bundle adds the Rise Against the Empire playset, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Boba Fett on to the regular starter bundle for $115 total. However, I’ve seen Amazon and others heavily discounting the Saga bundle recently. Current it’s $95 on Amazon ($20 off regular price) which is a great deal.

    Hope that helps anyone wondering what you are getting for the prices.

      Best Buy just had the Infinity 2.0 Toy Box starter set on sale for $15. Then you can buy 3.0 digitally for $20. That would give you Infinity 2.0, 3.0, the base, and two characters for only $35. And if you wanted to play in 2.0, there are two game discs in there as well. Now that’s a heck of a deal.

    Also if you’ve already got a game base that works on PS4, then I think all you have to do is buy the game off PSN ($20). You wouldnt need to buy a starter pack or Saga bundle. Then you can buy whatever individual playsets or figures you want.

    Hello, I like your 3rd iteration of DI, but Flynn’s Arcade isn’t working at all!

    Either my game freezes or I got dropped into someone else’s Toy Box, but never do I get an any of the actual arcade games.

    This needs to be fixed asap!
