Firewatch Arrives February 9, 2016 on PS4

Circle February 9 on your calendar, gather your friends, and put your camping trips on hold: Firewatch is launching on PS4!

Firewatch Date Announcement

Right now we’re still polishing, optimizing, writing, and developing the last bits of the game, but we can’t wait to put it out there for you to play.

If you didn’t see us at E3 this year, you can check out our trailer here. Firewatch is a first-person adventure game about a mystery in the Wyoming wilderness. It’s being developed by a group of folks who brought you games like The Walking Dead: Season 1, Brutal Legend, Bioshock II, The Cave and Mark of the Ninja.

We’ll have much more to say in the lead-up to February 9, as well as some opportunities for some of you to get an early hands-on. Keep an eye out for more info, and feel free to toss us questions in the comments right on this blog.

  • Nice! Really looking forward to this.

  • Nice!! I’ve been waiting for this game.

  • That’s great, but what IS Firewatch?

  • Really looking forward to this game. I love a nice FPX but I really dislike the new wave of ones that have come out where you do almost nothing but wander and barely even interact. I like the whole idea of learning stories from notes or old pictures and such, but it seems to have gone a bit too far with some games. I want narrative, but I also need interaction.

    • If you watch any of our demos or trailers *hopefully* you notice lots of picking stuff up, going to places to find things, climbing, etc.

  • I did! That is why this is definitely on my list of Must Keep An Eye On. Really looking forward to the 2/9

    • Oops… thought I was replying. My bad. I’ll just sit over here in this corner and keep my mouth shut. Lol. Anyway, thanks again guys.

  • Been looking forward to this game for a while now. Glad to hear it’s coming soon. Love the podcast guys!

  • The game looks interesting but I still haven’t been able to decipher what Firewatch is. Is this a horror game or just a straight forward mystery? Are there enemies? Is there combat? Are there run and hide elements? Is there puzzle solving? More info please…

    • The best way to describe it is “an adventure game with systems.” It’s really story focused, you make a ton of dialog choices, you explore and a story unfolds. There isn’t any combat!

  • “[…] developed by a group of folks who brought you games like The Walking Dead: Season 1, Brutal Legend, Bioshock II, The Cave and Mark of the Ninja”

Quite the range of talent you guys have got there!

Thanks for bringing your game to PS4. I’m always up for trying something new. As noted above this seems like a great mix between narrative and interaction.

Let’s see how it unfolds :)

  • I’m beside myself with joy this finally has a release date. My second most anticipated game of 2016.

  • You lost me at ‘first person’… but best of luck, I hope the game succeeds.

  • I’m really looking forward to playing. Maybe you haven’t thought this far ahead, but any idea on the price?

  • This is good to hear. February’s going to be a fun month.

  • I’ve been looking forward to this game since i seen the first trailer, can’t wait to get my hands on this game!!

  • Any chance we will see this at the Playstation Experience?

  • I have been waiting for this game to release since seeing it at E3.I am glad to see it is releasing much sooner than I expected.I was expecting to see a summer 2016 timeframe.

  • Oh man, it’s too far away! I mean, it could be further, but I’d prefer if it was ready like next week :) Game looks great though, loved seeing the E3 presentation of it.

  • I have a fire in my crotch for Firewatch!

  • Cant stand first person views. IGN Gameplay did look interesting though.

  • When I first heard that there’s a team that consists of guys who were involved with TWD (made me cry like a baby), a dude from the Mark of The Ninja team (platinumed it, loved it) and Olly Moss (love the Star Wars posters), I was automatically hyped up.

Can’t wait to actually get my hands on the game. I love everything about it I’ve seen so far: the look, the setting, the ominous vibes.. February can’t come fast enough.

  • retail, digital, price?

  • Digital or retail, price?

  • Do the dialogue choices impact the story in any way?

    • Much of what you choose to say builds the story/relationship between Henry & Delilah but it’s not a “divergent paths” thing like TWD or even Until Dawn (I really liked UD, btw). It’s more about the two main characters.

  • Been looking forward to this ever since it was announced as coming to PS. Will certainly be picking it up.

  • Anyone taking bets, that the game comes with a patch on release?

    • We’re a super small team so any day-1 patch would be small bug or content fixes of stuff we’ve found while the game was in cert. We chose a release date that we believe will let us ship something super polished.

    • Will the game run at 60fps locked? Also could you give us a estimation of the campaign length?

    • @Strangeheaven , I would be willing to bet the former TellTale staff on this team aren’t looking to repeat the rampant and embarrassing quality issues their former employer had with nearly every PlayStation release post-Devil’s Playhouse.

  • Thanks Sean. Keeping my eye on this one.

  • So excited to finally have a release date! I will most definitely be purchasing Firewatch! Have been anticipating this game since the initial announcement. The visual style, atmosphere, voice acting – it’s all superb! Can’t wait!

Big thanks for bringing it to the PS4!

Also, what do you mean by getting to play it early? Are you going to be offering a demo or a Beta?

  • Sweet! Can’t wait to play this one.

  • Glad to see this is coming to PS4, I have been following it for a while but thought it was going to be PC only. I would rather play on PS4!

  • Awesome! 8 days after my birthday…might have to treat myself to a late birthday gift :-)

  • One of my most anticipated games this year. Will the dualshock speaker be used similar to Transistor?

  • The game’s looking great guys. Are you going to be doing a retail release or digital only?

  • I cannot wait for this game. Last month I played Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and right now I’m currently playing Soma. Firewatch, Adri1t, Tacoma, and What Remains of Edith Finch are all on my radar. And if you do not like these types of games then thats fine but that doesn’t mean they are poor games. And if you are looking for anything similar then check out Gone Home, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and so many others. You guys have day one purchaser in me.

  • Nice! Definitely a game i’ve been keeping tabs on, really looking forward to it!

  • I’m going to buy your game, when can i pre-order, also can we get a cool Fire Watch ps4 theme for said pre-order?

  • I’m going to buy your game, when can i preorder? Also can we receive a cool Fire Watch PS4 theme for said preorder?

  • Definitely one of my most anticipated games, looks like the kind of thing I’ll want on day one. I just hope I can complete it without rushing before ‘Mankind Divided’ releases, as I want to play that day one as well.

  • Will the radio communications come out of the speaker on the DualShock 4? Any use of the touchpad or motion controls in the DS4?

You guys have talked a lot about the ambience and environment, will there be surround sound? HD audio assets for music and sound effects?

    Looking forward to it!

  • This game came out of nowhere for me. And can’t wait to play it looks amazing!

  • Great to hear this has a release date at last, and we’ll be able to play it for ourselves soon :-)

  • Been keeping ma eyes on Firewatch since the announcement and the E3 trailer really made ma interest grow by a large scale.Nice to see a release date although I’ll play it later lol.Anyway after seeing that list of games on the post it could make me lost interest in the game but at least you got The Cave there and well videos speak higher than anything.
    Looking forward to play it.

  • I cannot wait to get my hands on this title. Ever since I saw this at E3 2015 I have been wanting it.

  • I actually like the fact that there aren’t any guns in this game or “lack of guns”, but how would you defend yourself from a wild animal?
