Superbeat: Xonic Coming to PS Vita November 10th

Hello everyone on PlayStation.Blog! My name’s Nao, and I’m here to talk about a new rhythm game from developers PM Studios and Nurijoy that will be co-published by PM Studios and acttil: Superbeat: Xonic for PS Vita!

The team at PM Studios is the creative force behind DJ Max Fever which was released for PSP back in 2008. Now, they’re back and better than ever with a brand new music game full of original tunes and fun, intuitive gameplay.

First things first, I’m incredibly excited to officially announce that Superbeat: Xonic will launch on November 10th via digital and retail. The wait won’t be very long! I’m also happy and humbled to announce that Superbeat: Xonic will feature tracks from ARC System Works’ BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and Magical Beat as part of its stellar line up of DLC. Even more groovy DLC tracks will be available on launch day as well, so make sure your Vita is charged up and ready to rock.

There are 3 difficulty modes (4TRAX, 6TRAX, and 6TRAX FX). Each mode is shown in the trailer above, so you can see how it gets more difficult and complicated as you progress through each mode. However, the challenge doesn’t end there! From the game’s settings, you can choose difficulty levels (Hard, Normal, and Easy) within these modes, so if you’re a seasoned rhythm game player, you can beef up the difficulty levels before the game even starts.

Also, you can change the speed of the music. This title will let you go as crazy as you want with its challenges.

Okay, before I let you all go, I’d like to share my list of 7 super cool things about Superbeat: Xonic.

  1. You can connect to PSN to view your DJ Ranking! You can see how you’re performing compared to other players in both local and worldwide ranking systems. You think you have rhythm in you? This is where you can show off against other rhythm gamers around the globe!
  2. There are so many music genres to choose from! Superbeat: Xonic is equipped with tracks that range from Rock to Pop, Techno to R&B. You can always switch up the music you play and keep things feeling fresh. Also, each song has its own difficulty gauge, so you can practice with easier songs first, or give it your all and attempt to pass the more challenging songs from the get go!
  3. Did I mention that all the original songs and music are incredibly awesome? I was hooked to all the catchy original songs even from my first playtest. I can listen to these songs even when I’m not playing. They get stuck in your head!
  4. The three modes give a great learning curve to newcomers to the rhythm game genre. If you’re a seasoned music game player, you can tweak settings to make the game consistently challenging and fun, so no worries there. For those who are not-so-familiar-with-music-games, don’t fret! There will be a beginner mode (4TRAX), and you’ll be able to modify the music speed.
  5. Tons of music patterns are available in Superbeat: Xonic. There are more than 200 different play patterns this game will throw at you. There will always be more difficult songs you can choose in each mode, and they will always have more complicated patterns to challenge your hand-eye coordination.
  6. Like I mentioned in the beginning of the blog, there will be DLC available for Superbeat: Xonic I’ll get more details about this when we have more information! Superbeat: Xonic will be equipped with more than 45 songs to begin with.
  7. You can take Superbeat: Xonic anywhere you go! The tracks average about 2 minutes in length, so you can pick up and play wherever you are in your day. Maybe you can rest your cell phone a bit, and make your PS Vita work hard for you for a little while! If you just want to indulge, you can play it via PlayStation TV as well!

I hope you’re all excited for this new music game, which is out on November 10th. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post.

Have a great day, everyone!

  • Can’t wait for it. sounds amazing.

Also PM Studios are rude af on social channels.

  • Here we go!

  • 5 Years of waiting, finally… AND NOW WITH DLCs!

  • One thing I really disliked about DJ Max Technika Tune is having to use touch screen controls.

Is there a button-only mode for this game?

  • This is my first time commenting on the Playstation blog – i simply HAD to say thank you to the devs for giving us this gem!

I am a huge fan of rhythm gaming on my Vita! Hatsune Miku 1 & 2, Persona Dancing All Night, IA/VT Colorful, DJ Max, and now THIS?! What a great time to be a Playstation gamer! Is there any word on a collectors/limited edition in the style of DJMAX Technika Tune’s AMAZING limited edition retail release?

    • Hi itsonylu,

So happy to read your comment:) I’ll definitely deliver your message to the dev team!

Regarding the limited edition, please visit Official DJMAX facebook page for more info.

      Have a great weekend!

      Thank you!

  • I hope Sony PlayStation enable PS VitaTV functionality in Perú since I bought one but PS Store doesn’t work yet (to buy DLC o digital content).

    The game looks cool! :)

  • Thank you for not giving up on the PS Vita, like those (_______)s at Sony.

    • Hello perrandy,

acttil is not working on the action rpg we announced 2 years ago, unfortunately… :(
But, we are very excited to be able to work on SBX, and we’ve been honored to work with PM Studios!
acttil will have more games to announce in the near future, so hope you will be looking forward to it:)

Thank you for remembering the action rpg from a few years back.

  • Hype, gotta buy a new cable ‘coz i lost the usb to vita port part… Just for Xonic, since there’s almost nothing good exclusive to Vita.

Keep doing dlc, don’t let it die like Technika Tune.

    • Hi DJ_Kerox,

Thank you for your comment and thanks for getting a new cable just for XONiC:)
PM Studios is working hard to get as many DLC as possible as we speak! I’ll definitely let them know that fans are looking forward to lots of DLC :)

      Thank you!

  • I am so hyped up for this game. Looking forward to this game, and when the day comes, my money will be up front.

I dream that one day, this game will get a DLC crossover from the original DJ Max soundtracks

    • Hi yawnawn,

Thank you for your comment! Glad to hear that you are so hyped up for XONiC!

Regarding the DLC crossover from the DJ MAX, unfortunately there won’t be such DLC. :( Sorry!
But all the original songs and music on XONiC are awesome, so you won’t be disappointed:)
      Have a great weekend!

      Best,
      nao

    • That’s cool, I understand.

I’m ok with listening to new songs from new and returning artists :D

  • oh ok nao, will be looking forward to your next titles thank you for your reply hope to see ya around the blog soon :)

  • Looks pretty fun. I’ll likely get it.

Out of curiosity, how are you actually supposed to pronounce “Xonic”? Like “Sonic”, “Zonic”, “Exonic”, or something else entirely?

  • Awesome! DJMAX Technika Tune ended up becoming one of my favourite Vita games, so much so that I ordered the X-Otic edition of Superbeat :D.

  • I’ve always been a huge fan of DJ MAX, hell I even paid quite a bit to import the Clazziquai edition and I’ve had this game on my radar since it was posted with no info on Amazon. Do you know how much is the file size? I want to see if I get a physical copy or if I get it digital (I’m a bit restricted since my PS Vita memory is only 16 Gb :P).

Thanks a lot for this release, you have no idea how much I love the DJ Max legacy.

    • Hi Your_crazy_uncle,

      Thank you for your comment!
The file size is 2.8GB. Hope this info helps:)
      Have a great weekend!

  • Thank you so much for your hard work! I’ve been a fan since the first DJMAX Portable!
I have the special edition already ordered!
I have a question for you guys. Will you have music from the DJMAX series, or is that music owned by another company?
Either way, I look forward to all the original music!

    • Hi Parasitepaladin,

Thank you for your message! And, thank you for getting the special edition:)

About the DJMAX music, unfortunately these music won’t be available on XONiC. Sorry!!
But please know that the new music on XONiC is all great, and you’ll enjoy them as much as you did with DJMAX:)

      Thank you for your support!
      Have a great weekend!

      nao

  • No thanks.
How about some HD classics? Or some better Indies.

Legacy system doesn’t mean spam us freeware, that we pay for.

  • Best of wishes for the team for this game. It’s too bad that DJMAX is dead but it’s nice to know that several of the musicians and designers have formed a new studio. Mind you, I won’t be playing this game because the PS Vita is pure trash, but nevertheless I hope you guys the best.

    • Hi LUCIFERSGLEAM,

Thank you for wishing the best for the dev team!
If you change your mind about PSVita, give this game a try:)

      Thank you!
      Have a great weekend!
      nao

    • Furthering your wishes for success perhaps once this game becomes more well known among music game lovers, perhaps you guys will work on other platforms with larger audiences. ***hint hint 3DS or mobile hint hint***

    • The Vita is not “pure trash”.

Better hardware, more ergonomically correct, better dpad and an amazing screen. If you are a fan of rhythm games how could you spew such nonsense since all the good rhythm games are on the vita?

The 3DS really is only good if you enjoy Nintendo games, similar to the Wii U, it doesn’t get as much 3rd party support.

      Have fun missing out ;-)

    • Sony abandoned it, soon other third parties will abandon the Vita. I bought one months before the US launch expecting Sony to at least replicate the PSP (80+ million sold, tons of games to play made just for it). But the mobile market has taken that away and the Vita is where it is now. The only PS Vita music game I got to play is DJMAX Technika Tune which was good but playing on a cramped screen made it totally uncomfortable (along with using the back touch). The iOS version DJMAX Technika Q played much better on say an iPad. In fact, music games on the iPad are better than the ones on the Vita. Especially ones that use the screen as the main gameplay component.

    • While it’s true that Sony abandoned the vita that doesn’t mean that the vita has a poor library of games. Also that doesn’t mean the vita is pure trash as well.

  • Thanks for supporting the Vita.

  • Ever since I heard about this game, I had kept it on my radar. The trailer I saw (one before this one) nailed it: I’m incredibly excited for Xonic! It has risen to #1 on my list of games-to-get and I’m looking forward to play this the moment that matters about my student credit have finally cleared up.

For making this game available in the west I am very thankful. For some reason, asking someone to bring back games from their holiday-home travel to Japan grants me never quite the same feeling that going out to buy a game myself does. And I’m sure it plays nicely in English.

Very excited for the DLC, especially that from BlazBlue, too!

  • NO SUCH THING as too many rhythm games, especially portable ones! This is a definite buy for me!
I just platinumed DJ Max Technika Tune back in August, and the looks of that trailer gives me the feeling this game may be even harder. Bring it on ; )

  • finly I got my preorder movie but I didn’t get my free theme

  • Hi there, just gotten the asia copy few days ago, wanna say here that its awesome! Very much the spiritual successor of DJmax (and better IMO).

Question: does the US copy and Asia copy share the same trophy list? cause i might be selling my copy for the US copy in future for DLC stuff (i’m using US account, bummer).

  • Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $100 per hour. I work through this link. wallstreet34.com

  • No vita no buy! SONY please don’t let the VITA have a young and tragic death!

    • Lol what? You do know that this game is a vita exclusive right? Did you read the article…heck did you even read the title?
