So wait, are we still going to be able to preorder a regular $399.99 PSVR? I already have a PS Camera, and even two Move controllers, so I’d hate to have a second pair of each.

C’mon, Sony! I want the core system as I already bought the camera and move controllers years ago. Seems like a big step back for VR fans.

Agreed. I am very upset that an unbundled VR pre-order isn’t available. For people that do not have the camera and Move controllers (and that is probably most people), this is a great all-in-one option. However, by choosing not make an unbundled option available, Sony penalizes customers who previously committed to its other peripherals. Why not offer both as pre-order options? Sony made a choice at the expense of people like us. That’s disappointing.

+ Ficiado on March 18th, 2016 at 6:18 am said:

Yes. You will be able to buy the PSVR alone. It’s just a bundle announcement.

Sony really dropped the ball on us.

Seriously, they have to let us pre-order the core PS VR bundle. There’s no way we’re going to find these in stores over here standalone.

Yeah, charging us an extra $150 to preorder is an absolutely terrible move to the people you admit are your biggest supporters. I have the camera, 3 move controllers, 2 navcons and 2 sharpshooters. Come on Sony, do the right thing

EVERYONE! Relax! There will be a PSVR Core ($399) pre-order later. Its obvious. just be patient. They want to have expectations for sales for this bundle first as manufacturing these are more difficult. Be patient and I am sure we will hear about the Core pre-orders in the coming weeks.

Yes, it’s obviously coming as well, it just isn’t available for preorder at the time.

Good grief, people. Dial it down a notch. Of course we will be able to pre-order the standalone VR system. Why would anyone would assume otherwise is beyond me. PS VR doesn’t launch for 5 months and the release date was just announced. Give retailers a little time to get set up.

    + M1NAT3K on March 18th, 2016 at 9:21 am said:

Yep – add me to this list of disappointed early adopters. I got the two sets of move controllers (+PS Eye) during the PS3 days, and that went nowhere. Then I got the PS4 camera at launch, at that’s sitting around doing nothing. Now to reward us for having faith from the get-go, we are told that the core PS VR is not available for pre-order.

@ PanTheMan16 – “Why would anyone would assume otherwise is beyond me.” Maybe because being able to read is beyond you too, “The core PS VR bundle, which has a suggested retail price of $399.99 USD / $549.99 CAD, is not available for pre-order.”

+ LuntiX on March 18th, 2016 at 9:59 am said:

If you look at the pre-order page that was linked, $399 for just the headset, no camera or controllers included.

    + PanTheMan16 on March 18th, 2016 at 10:15 am said:

M1NAT3K – Not sure why you’re so hostile, but the core set absolutely will be made available in due time. As I said, the announcement is still fresh and there are reasons that everything isn’t available yet. And by your reasoning, we should expect that the summer wave will be the last opportunity to pre-order PS VR.

For one, offering this bundle first is ideal because not everyone may be aware that the camera and Move controllers are required. This ensures that the people pre-ordering this bundle will have everything they need, and it truly is a fantastic deal for those who don’t have the required accessories yet.
And the other important thing Sony is doing is gauging interest before they go all out. This is a brand new system and they have to get an idea of how strong sales will be.

You know, the reason Vita tanked isn’t because Sony stopped supporting it. Sony stopped supporting it because it didn’t sell well, despite the excellent support they gave it early on.

PSVR is just going to be another Eyetoy, PS3 Eye, 3D, Move, Wonderbook, PS4 Camera, PS Mobile, Vita, etc. to Sony and be abandoned within 18 months.

    + Fin1drful on March 18th, 2016 at 6:42 am said:

I totally agree. People don’t even want to wear glasses for 3D gaming why on earth would you think people are going to put this thing on to play a games. Waste of time, money and resources that could be making quality AAA games.

    + Roaming_Ryu on March 18th, 2016 at 6:44 am said:

Uh, no? The EyeToy had some fantastic games. I still use my PS3 Eye to this very day for video chat. Saying Move and the PS4 Camera is “abandoned” is a total contradiction to this very topic: PSVR uses these two technologies, and are flying off store shelves if you haven’t been paying attention to sales trends as of late. The Vita has over 200 games currently in development and its quite a successful “remote play” device for PS4. Speaking as an average gamer, and not some “PS Fanboy”, I will say you’re either just very misinformed or just a negative person in general… or both.

It’s understandable if you don’t belive, and this article sums it up perfectly: http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2016/03/16/your-vr-apathy-is-entirely-understandable

+ DotComCTO on March 18th, 2016 at 7:43 am said:

I disagree. VR is definitely a “thing” now, and PS VR has a large number of developers on board. Given that Amazon UK sold out within 10 minutes, it seems the demand is high. If the experience is immersive AND the head tracking and controllers are responsive (looking at you, last gen Move controllers!), then this has the potential to really take off and get huge adoption.

Don’t forget that Oculus (Facebook) and HTC + Valve are backing VR with significant dollars. They’re not doing this for giggles. They believe there’s money to be made…a lot of it.

    + gerneric123 on March 18th, 2016 at 7:52 am said:

@Roaming_Ryu If Move wasn’t abandoned, what came out for it between mid-2012 (18ish months after launch) to present? Right, nothing worth remembering. Four years of nothing is abandonment. The fact that Sony is taking a dead peripheral and attaching it to potentially another dead peripheral doesn’t mean they actually supported Move. All that means is that they’ve got a bunch of unsold ones they want to unload. I’ve seen those “articles” about cameras and Moves selling 600% more than what they were before PSVR’s price and release window came in. My response to that is: what were they selling before? How many people were realistically buying a PlayStation Move in 2016? Likely a very small amount, so a huge percentage increase could mean 150 people bought a Move that day.

As for Vita, Sony has said multiple times they have 0 games in development for it. That is an abandoned platform. Every firmware update only exists to remove features Sony is too lazy and cheap to maintain. Again, that’s an abandoned platform. Remote Play isn’t a replacement for actual games running on the hardware, and in Sony’s continued pursuit to ditch Vita, it isn’t even an exclusive feature anymore. It’s on Android phones and now PCs.

Vita TV sold out on Amazon Japan within minutes in 2013. Now it’s discontinued. That is such a microscopic data point as to be irrelevant.

Perhaps Vita has been abandoned by Sony, but lots of third party companies are still developing/publishing games for it, in fact I’m wating for Trillion: God of Destruction, Senran Kagura Estival Versus (just released a few days ago), Stranger of Sword City, Neptunia vs Zombies.

Also has a blast with Corpse Party, played it at the end of last year and beginning of this, and it became one of my favorite games ever…

+ Seluhir on March 18th, 2016 at 8:46 am said:

It depends entirely on software support.

Just like how the 3DS, despite being an absolute piece of garbage from a hardware perspective, continues to sell like hot-cakes…

Software is the key. If there are a good array of solid titles, the VR will sell. Guaranteed. If not, it’s going to be a huge failure… just like the vita sadly :(

    + al2009man on March 18th, 2016 at 9:22 am said:

no offence, but when Virtual Reality was making quite a scene this year. Sony cannot abandoned PS VR! especially at a good price.

also, more than 200+ developers/publishers are working VR games for PS VR along with Oculus and HTC Vive.

+ CommandingTiger on March 19th, 2016 at 8:31 am said:

    18 minutes? No… In average it’s 2-3 years.

But here’s the thing about PS VR that is different from PS Move, they aren’t the only ones making a VR headsets.
Meaning developers making games for PS VR will make money off of multiple platform making it a viable investment to makes games for.
It’s not like kinetic and Microsoft spending money to have devs to make games for the device. This is different, these devs are passionate about making VR experiences and games. It’s gonna last longer even if Sony’s First Party studios don’t make them.
They can still make a VR game compatible with your HD TV.
Either way, it’s too much for me right now. I got other things to pay, one of them is an Sony 3D/4k HDR TV.
I will get it later, I already have the Sharp Shooter gun, 4 move controllers and other hand guns.

By the way Sony, you need to make Vita games, it’s your job. Nintendo still makes games for the Wii U even if it a “failure”.
It’s not good for your perception.

It’s probably a matter of hardware availability. Once they’ve gauged the estimated amount of ‘launch bundle’ pre-orders, they’ll determine whether they have enough stock at launch to do pre-orders for the ‘core bundle’. Way to rip off Canada. Canadian gamers are already hurting from the sudden increase in game and hardware prices oveer the last 2-3 years (games went from 60 to 80 and our incomes didn’t go up). + sealum01 on March 18th, 2016 at 6:21 am said:

Because the value of the Canadian dollar can still fluctuate up or down in the future.

    + gerneric123 on March 18th, 2016 at 6:30 am said:

@Sealum01 The Canadian dollar isn’t going to drop far enough for that difference to make sense.

+ gjeyre on March 18th, 2016 at 6:35 am said:

By that (correct)logic the CAD dollar could improve and they could also charge less? The US actually saves money with the bundle, Canadians lose money.

+ CyborgGreyFox on March 18th, 2016 at 7:05 am said:

I’ve accepted a long time ago that this won’t ever make sense.

We’re always paying more, no matter what the strength of the dollar is. Even if the Canadian dollar gets stronger or is on par with the US dollar it doesn’t change anything.

I understand we can’t have always fluctuating prices and why they set a 10$ more for physical/AAA games. The dollar is usually weaker.

It’s just VERY frustrating because when things get more expensive(like this) the price is usually much more expensive, waaaay more than it should be.

At least we’re not paying 15% taxes on digital games and they’re always mostly the same price(Unless it’s a big studio game, then it’s 10 to 15$ more).

    + sealum01 on March 18th, 2016 at 7:45 am said:

Sony is a profit turning company. They are likely pricing safely based on a dollar whose exchange value is unstable.

Still, this is easily one of the cheapest VR solution around for Canadians, trailing 2016 mid-quality mobile VR by $100 dollars (the unsubsidized Galaxy S7 cost is $900 + $100 GearVR). The price is very cheap for high-quality VR if you already own a PS4 (which millions do). Put it in perspective, the Oculus Rift (not including “Touch” hand controllers) costs $915CAD and still requires a hefty gaming-PC (which few people likely have).

So if you are a Canadian, and want high-quality head-tracked VR at the lowest price, PSVR is it.

    + sealum01 on March 18th, 2016 at 7:49 am said:

Google “canadian exchange rate” and notice that the exchange rate for the dollar has been dropping for some time.

Ok, I’m done. I hope you all have a good day.

+ gjeyre on March 18th, 2016 at 9:27 am said:

If you do Google it, the graph shows a constant decrease through 2015, bottoming out early 16. Currently it’s on an upward trend and is directly tied to the oil price, which has also bottomed out and beginning to rise.

Adding $50 doesn’t have any explanation other than gauging the consumer under the veil of financial insecurity. They’re not going to reduce the price if of the CAD picks up. Canadians will save next to nothing, if anything on this bundle, depending on how you value the mini games.

    + PocketAces11 on March 23rd, 2016 at 8:08 am said:

I’m hoping they are just hedging themselves in case rates get worse and will adjust price at release if they don’t. But that could be just wishful thinking. Under promise over deliver??

What the heck? So the ones who’ve actually supported Sony most by already having the camera and Move controllers are the ones who get shafted by not being able to preorder? Well, at least I have my Oculus Rift then. I’ll wait for a price drop on the PSVR if I don’t get to preorder the Core bundle.

AWESOME! This is fantastic news, and I cannot wait to get my Canadian bundle! I love that it includes VR Worlds, and all of the equipment needed to get up and running, which is perfect for me since I do not own the PS Camera or Move controllers.

I was looking forward to VR Worlds as well! It seems like a fantastic “show piece” for demonstrating VR, and I’m sure will get my imagination spinning!

All eyes forward to October!

Plus, I can’t wait to see my significant other’s reaction to VR for the first time, and also that of my friends!

I got all excited only to realize that this is only for the bundle, and the core version will not have a preorder.. So i’ve now got to hope and pray I can secure the core version on launch day… This isn’t smart. How can you not allow preorders for both right now? The deeply invested core Playstation fans already have the other peripherals and only need the VR visor.

It should be the other way around Sony!!! You should be catering to the core, not those just now getting on board.

I appreciate the bundle info, but this is not the preorder version I and a lot of gamers I know were hoping for. :(

+ bassguitarist48 on March 18th, 2016 at 6:21 am said:

You have all of these hardcore fans who have bought these peripherals already. Why not offer the core bundle for $400 for pre-order? It seems like an extremely poor decision, an opinion that is seemingly shared by most people in this comment section so far. Are we at least going to be able to get the core $400 bundle here in North America on launch day? Having to call store to store on release day to see if there is a core bundle in stock available seems like a craptastic way to purchase this product, but if that’s the only way I’m going to be able to get the $400 core bundle, then I would at least like to know if that’s an option.

23

+ Electrix64 on March 18th, 2016 at 6:21 am said:

I am disappointed that those who will be buying the core version, who have already purchased move controllers and the camera years beforehand will not have PlayStation VR Worlds bundled.

+ ultimatedarklord on March 18th, 2016 at 9:12 pm said:

I have to agree with you, those that are getting the bundle are getting a better deal than us who aren’t. I’m guessing we would have to pay $460 to get the Core PS VR Bundle plus PS VR Worlds which is ridiculous. For an extra $40 dollars we would also get new duplicates of the peripherals we already own, so the standalone isn’t even worth it in North America.

+ FoomMan on March 18th, 2016 at 6:22 am said:

This pricing seems very fair. $399 for the headset is great and under $500 for the entire bundle is a good discount, but please:

Let us pre-order the standalone headset.
