  • The increase sucks but all we have to do is skip fast food/pizza once a year.

    • Not of fan of any price increase on any service, there really is no choice for those that want to continue to play online with the PS4 so we have to pay it. Just make sure you do something more than what you are doing right now to justify it. Improve your service, offer 2-step verification, give us more discounts and better selections of games, even give us other options if we happen to already own that title being offered digitally, and maybe this pill will be easier to swallow.

    • I seriously do not understand this mentality. I mean you see no problem with skipping a meal so that Sony execs can eat better than they already do, without bring anything new or better to your table? A few months back I decided I would get more entertainment out of an extra pizza and a movie rental than renewing PS+… I have not regretted that decision once.

  • if they are gonna raise prices so high then they need to give us better free games than that indy games mess, give us backwards compatibility or something to compensate for price hike

  • PS+ doesn’t even really seem worth it anymore, the free games are lackluster and you’re pretty much pigeonholed into buying it if you want to play online. I think I’ll just stick to local multiplayer and single player games for the time being.

  • Not happy about this at all, $20 increase for us Canadians is really pushing it. Haven’t been too thrilled this past year with the PS+ line-up, just been thrown tons of indie games. No where in the article did it mention that the quality of the games we’ll be getting will get better with this price increase.

  • The new pricing reflects the current market conditions. what “current market conditions”??!!

  • Given that the online multiplayer aspect (functionality, infrastructure stability, security) of PS+ still SUCKS in comparison to XBox Live, this is a major kick in the teeth.

When in moved from a free to a paid service, we expected VAST improvements in return. We got few, if any. Now you want more? What do we get in return? You know, given that most devs are running their own servers, you’re just charging us to pay for access to *their* own infrastructure.

  • They’re doing good but not that good. I can’t think of a Plus exclusive that was that great and I’m paying for the option to get lackluster games? Pay to play online? We pay internet for that. They need to show us the value in this service and don’t tell me it’s because of free games every month.

    • I guess literally what we all have to understand is that one you pay your rent mortgage utility bills you pay internet you pay PlayStation Plus you buy games you know and in the end I feel like we’re really not getting any type of great service from PlayStation I believe all we doing is throwing away free money just to keep their pocket wealthy but there not giving anything back to the to the PlayStation users I just want to make this clear that I don’t only speak just for PlayStation Plus users I speak for all PlayStation users because I believe we all deserve to play and enjoy the quality of the system now if you’re telling me that I would have to pay for high exclusive quality and features but not the $70 charge now I definitely would not mind

  • i can’t belive i am paying a 120$ a year only to play fifa online (fifa + ps plus sub)
    this is absolutely furious !!

60$ sub for medium free games.
you messed up this time sony.

  • Come on boys, looks like its finally time to go join that PC Master Race bandwagon. In the end we’ll end up paying more than a beefed up PC. Lets hold hands and walk into the next life peacefully.

  • Good thing I didn’t renew ps+ this year. Piss off sony, your joke of a netcode isn’t worth paying for in the first place.

    • That’s funny most of the games that they’re giving our kitty games not even challenging enough for most gamers normally used to be 3 games then it dropped down to one or two games a month and as some of the users has explained of the crash servers the games will crash your system will go into a pause mode which is ridiculous some of the features are good and some of the features are just garbage to have on the system I’m just thinking Some of our voices is never going to make it out it’s almost like a voting poll they make the numbers disappear so in reality we’re just sharing our voices with each other but it won’t go nowhere OMG SMH

  • PS Plus is pathetic, I’m sick of all the indie junk Sony is giving away, when was the last time we’ve seen a AAA release?! And now even more money for even more junk!

I want a subscription just to be able to play online, I couldn’t care less for the crappy games. In fact why do I even have to pay to be able to play online a game I bought, on a system I paid for?!

  • Im seriously disapointed in the raise of price , being in Canada i feel even more exploited by this . I dont see why peoples are more interested about talking about the free games rather than talking about that 20% raise ….

    • That’s why I actually like to express my voice out like this because free games are nothing cuz they can actually take it back and if you don’t have PlayStation Plus you can’t play those free games. And I know there’s a lot of things that’s changing in the world and that’s probably why they’re enforcing the price to just change like that with very short notice but we have gotten hit with the most ridiculous prices and you get nothing really good back for it so I guess this is how we’re going to continue getting robbed until we can figure something out I guess

  • You’ve proven once again Sony how Stupid, You’re mental thought capacity is. Really you think want to pay 59.99 for 12 months of crashing servers, & piece of trash indie games. SMFH you better make those free games AAA every month if you don’t want 2016/17 the year PlayStation Dies do you?

  • TOO ALL PlayStation USERS I’M STARTING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SONY LOL

  • Wow it’s a steep increase in Canada. I have 2 PS+ subscription… mine plus my girlfriend one because we play Destiny and Other coop games together.

With that increase its almost three times the price for my 2 subscription. Will probably have to cancel one of the two, and hassle off between profile and ps4 to continue playing both online.

    Thanks Sony!

  • Very disappointed in the price increase, especially when the quality of the games and service received has been steadily declining since the release of the ps4. Not only that but you dont even make a post explaining what the extra money will be providing customers, but hide the announcement attached to an old post. I will be finding other places to play my games now

  • Way to go Sony, increasing the price for Canadians by 30%. Good thing I have 3 years left or I have cancelled.

  • Good morning gamers, I just would like to know when are you people going to take the time to realize that we’re being overcharged with PlayStation Plus network we have friends that we can’t even play online with anymore and I understand PlayStation online service used to be free once but things have changed and some of us has agreed too a certain prices in order for you to play online with certain friends but now things are getting a little bit ridiculous here cuz now we’re paying close to $70 annually and which doesn’t even including the games that we actually buy from the game stores that cost us nearly close to a hundred bucks but in reality you’re really not getting anything for your money normally used to get 3 games now they limit it to one or two games is anybody ever gonna take the time to realize just how much we’re being ripped off and that things will never change unless we’re willing to put a fight up for it.

  • This is absolutely ridiculous! What was wrong with the prices before!?

  • And just to leave a quick note I’m not disrespecting any Gamers out there I just want you guys to realize that hey I don’t know for how long we going to continue letting people rip us off the community is always stronger when we stick together and I realize that some of us don’t really like to do that because we don’t really care what we paid we just care that were online and we’re playing and when we let our voices be heard we’re not just fighting for the ones who can’t afford it we’re fighting for herself too for all the money that we’re spending we deserve something

  • I personally feel if they plan to raise the price of plus then they have to give better quality games to make it worth the price bease as of late I feel that plus has been lacking as I find that I only pay to play online and so much for the free games

  • I seriously believe that PlayStation doesn’t really care about our voices or a vote I don’t think it makes a difference because these people are going to charge you regardless of how we feel but I do feel the way how they make their money is through us buying their products marketing advertisement. I’m glad to see that some of us like our voice to be heard or vote. It’s pretty sad to see it lease about close to about 52% of PlayStation members are willing to continue with the $70 charge and at least only 26% of our PlayStation Plus members are willing to fight and say no and if I’m correct only 15% of undecided people I understand how most of you feel I like to play video games watch movie play music too I like to play online with my friends I just don’t like being ripped off and telling all the PlayStation community that you going to raise up the price in September of next month so practically that means you don’t give a damn what the PlayStation community say.

    • I agree with you I bet sony would rethink their price increase if the majority of playstation gamers just stop using or pay for the service for a month and watch their income drop if they would continue to basically screw over their subscribers because if they want to increase the price of the service then make worth paying the extra money.

  • So the quality going downhill while the price is going up. Great job SONY!

  • People really need to stop complaining. There hasn’t been an increase in 6 years, and even if you don’t like the free games, PS Plus is worth it for the discounts and sales alone. Who expects everything to be free? It’s ridiculous. Do you walk into a restaurant and demand your appetizers to be no charge because you’ve been there before? If you can’t handle the price hike, ask mommy and daddy for a little bump in your allowance and you should be ok.

    • While it is true that the sales and discounts are worth if you like the games they offer it does not mean that you should be forced to pay for something you don’t want or use. As I am sure you don’t go to a restaurant and expect to pay for something you did not order and was poorly made. I personally have always been a huge supporter of playstation for years but it does not stand to reason that people should be charged more for a poorly made product just to enjoy something they already spent money on. In my opinion if they want to increase the price of plus go ahead but allow gamers to play online without being subjected to paying just to access a part of their game. If there is value in have plus just for the free games and discount they people will pay for them without being forced to.

    • wow, your mommy and daddy definitely taught you how to be a push over.

    • I wouldn’t complain if it was ACTUALLY worth it compared to the competition, however it is a very far cry in every way from being competitive to either the PC Platforms or XBL, which has faster d/l time, better free game selection, backwards compatibility for many 360 games, and it will also be $10 cheaper than PS+ in Canada once the hike goes up, and there is no way in hell that PS+ is worth $10 more than XBL.. Epic Fail on Sony’s part.

  • I’m so excited for the price to go up :D

  • Thanks for making it that much more difficult for Canadians to afford a hobby they enjoy.
We get that the dollar is weak right now but most of us dont get paid anymore to compensate. Games are already $80 which is a freaking joke, now this.

I understand why you did it but it doesn’t make it any less ******, feels like the we are being punished.

  • LMAO! Nope. My PS Plus just ended not long ago and i’m perfectly fine with it. It’s not worth it. I’m more than happy playing single player games. I know it’s just a minor increase, but it’s still ridiculous. Whoever did this needs to stop worrying about making their wallets fatter and start thinking about the fans who let them live as comfortably as they do.

  • what a really shady way to announce to your loyal customers that they will be paying more, I barely found out about the price increase today and it’s because the gaming page I follow is in an uproar. The post tells us when and how much the price is going up, but there are no details as to why or what this will bring to us as a community in the future. I’m already buying a year before the price goes up, but if the quality of service remains subpar I’ll let it expire and give the console for my dad to play when he wants and move on to something better.

  • Remember the PS plus prices went up in Europe a few months ago, and Europe has been getting the same crap we’ve been getting over here.. Nothing has changed, and nothing will. So you people better don’t set your expectations too high cause $ONY won’t live up to your expectations and that’s for sure!

  • i am ok with this increase of course IF playstation plus membership improves the servie alas “GIVE US BETTER GAMES”

  • Hey Sony thanks for convincing me it’s time to sell my PS systems and just stick with XBox, which is proving to be the superior system regardless of what the fan boys think about specs…..Hell you still don’t even have a decent racing sim available…..just a whole lot of fail. No way I’m pay $10 more than I pay for XBL which is by far superior…hell Destiny is the free game now on XBL.

    • Just a note to this comment to avoid confusion, Destiny is not free on XBL…

“The original Destiny adventure may appear to be free on some digital console marketplaces. While players may download the Destiny base game, they will only be granted access to the Destiny Trial Mode for free. If players wish to progress through the original Destiny adventure via digital download, they will be required to purchase Destiny – The Collection to gain access to this content.” -Bungie

  • I personally don’t have an issue with them increasing their price. I use plus to play online. The games they add monthly is a bonus for me. I personally use to pay to play on my Xbox 360 just to be able to have party chat and play online.

  • Pay more for the same crappy games HA HA HA!

  • In general terms, I am not really bothered by the price increase. What does prove to be continuously irksome is there is no solution for families. I have a PS4, PS3 and Vita. My 14 year old son also has a PS4, PS3 and Vita. His PSN account is a subaccount of my PSN account. His account only gets funded for purchases if the funds are first added to mine. This includes PSN cards. A $50 PSN card cannot be added to his account. It must be added to mine for him to access for purchases. Why not charge me $110.00 per year for a family account?

    • Even more irksome is Redeem Codes. Why do you not allow Redeem Codes to be added to my account and then flow down to the subaccount? Deus Ex collector’s edition arrives today. It would be nice if I could enter the codes for all the items, play the game and when my son gets around to playing be able to use all the codes as well. I would give you $150.00 per year for a family account to allow this. Or at the very least, PSN should recognize the codes were entered on the main account and give the option of paying for the codes to be reused on the subaccount; say $4.99 for games 6 months and older and $9.99 for games brand new to 6 months old.

Buying 2 $139.99 bundles is not going to pass muster with the wife. Nor will it pass muster to order 2 Uncharted 4 collector’s edition, Dark Souls III collector’s edition, No Man’s Sky Limited, The Last Guardian collector’s edition, Watch Dogs 2 deluxe edition, Dishonored 2 collector’s edition, Final Fantasy XV deluxe edition, Horizon Zero Dawn collector’s edition, Mafia III collector’s edition or Gran Turismo Sport limited edition.

  • People are really barking over an extra 83 cents a month. Ruff ruff.

    • In June Sony told investors they have “20.8 million” PS+ subscribers. That is over a $17 million dollar increase in profits, yet there is no mention of reinvesting any of that new profit back into the service. The idea of “pay more due to market conditions (the market conditions being that they currently have the largest install base, so they think more people will roll over and take it than not) while never improving a service is a tough pill for most to swallow. Sony may have made just handed the ball to MS. And if that is the case you can be sure MS will run away with it… again.

    • Well, have your mommy and daddy pay for ours too kid.. “Ruff ruff” Grow up. I could afford to pay an extra 100.00 a month, it’s not so much about the $ as it is about the principal of it all and the GARBAGE we get in return for something that SHOULD BE FREE

Grow up and yes I’m more mature than you despite the language I used, you don’t deserve anything better PUNK

  • You can just extend your membership now and lock in the current price. I bought codes off Amazon.com and now I’m good into 2019. You can also extend via the PS Plus app on the PS4.

If you need an Amazon.com link here’s bit.ly link that goes to the official digital code product page I found: http://amzn.to/2bKAKsQ

  • Wait for September line up first guys

    • More Indie games LoL…

    • September might actually be a good month, since they are increasing the price of ps plus this probably means next month might have games which could cause sony to lose profit therefore increasing the price of ps plus will help them maintain there profit
starting from September ps plus might be a huge competition against xbox live in every game sony will offer

  • This sucks, not gonna renew. Gonna switch to PC and steam when my current subscription expires. We already pay for an internet connection. Hope you reconsider.

  • This is bs man before the Playstation 4 came out they said they would give us great games for free every month such as God of War devil may cry games like that FOR FREE! I have yet to see a good game like that for free. Xbox is doing the same thing with the free games. And what I’ve seen I should have stayd with my Xbox one. And now we have to pay extra to play and pay extra for anything else we want.

  • Buy a prepaid card and stack them before the price goes up. Seems obvious to me.

  • It’s simple PR. There is no positive way to explain a price increase. There is always going to be negative backlash to a price increase. However, what Sony could have done is said, “Look, we are increasing the price of PS Plus. We are doing so in order to add the following features, or support the rebuilding of our infrastructure, or adding servers, or adding code and hardware to help eliminate DDoS attacks, or to bring you better quality titles every month, etc.” Sony needed to communicate better what the end user will be getting.

When Netflix increased their pricing, it was unpleasant, but at least they gave us reasons. Adding more 4K content, negotiating new deals to bring more movies in, and while this wasn’t part of the communication, it was part of the news that Netflix signed a very large $$$ amount contract with Disney to bring more (if not all, I don’t remember the details) Disney and Marvel content to Netflix. We weren’t happy with the price, but at least they attempted to explain why.

Sony gave us nothing other than, “You’ll keep getting everything you’ve been getting.” Just a poor PR move.

    • I think you have stated it wisely…
No one likes price increases, but they should have stated that some of that money will be funneled back into the network itself, like your example with Netflix. And on top of that, to announce the price increase in a 3+ week old blog post that most of us had to get to with an external link is quite shady… I have to say I liked the company much better when they were the underdog.

    • That’s a good point. PR is part of marketing, and Sony have always been TERRIBLE at marketing–creating products people don’t want or need, creating good products with awful user-friendliness, terrible advertising and communication with customers; Sony’s problem has ALWAYS been marketing.

It’s really weird for a huge company like Sony to be so bad at marketing for its whole life–it’s like it’s part of their core values: “Make high quality electronic devices”, “Be terrible at marketing”. If only Sony executives would realize the importance of great marketing (hell, Apple is one of the most successful companies on the planet entirely because of their marketing), they would also be one of the most successful companies on the planet. Instead, they continue to be mediocre in spite of their great potential, and to p*ss off their loyal customers with stunts like this one.

I used to be a huge fan of Sony products, but little by little I’ve replaced everything Sony I owned (TV, radio, MP3, laptop, headphones, smartphone, etc) with products from other companies, and PlayStation is next on my list of products to abandon because of the way they handle their loyal customers.

  • F**K YOU $ONY!!! F**K YOU! Your System is a PoS! Your Service is even Worse! I’m so done with you!!! Your Ninja Announcement shows just what a PoS Company you guys are!!

Seriously Fellow Gamers- Use your frigging heads and Move on To PC, Xbox, or Nintendont. Seriously. Scorpio is gonna Wipe the floor with Neo and Xbox and Phil Spencer actually do RIGHT by their Customers. PC IMO is the best platform and least restrictive. Even Nintendont is a better option.

Seriously, DO NOT buy a Console Refresh from $ONY, Trade your P$4 in and grab a New Xbox or a Scorpio down the road. You’ll be happier for it and actually get a service WORTH the money.

  • As a non-PS Plus subscriber and former PS fanboy of 13+ years, I’ve been disgusted at the lies and empty promises Sony has given. They owe MS a huge debt for the pre-Xbox One PR disaster which ultimately led to the PS4’s market dominance. Sony came out looking like the white knight with empty promises that they are for the gamers, will allow you to lend or buy second hand copies.

Then the nickel and diming started to happen. A switch from obtuse Cell technology to an X86 architecture was to ensure that multiplatform games ran better which led to an unprecedented amount of publishers releasing PS3 games that marginally look and play better for the PS4. A subscription service that allows you to play PS3 games on your PS4, from console far far away. Now, the price increase of up to 20 dollars for the PSN.

    • Yes 10 bucks for us here in the US isn’t much. But the bull plop “the new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. ” explanation sounds like the same crap pharmaceuticals say about the absurd prices of prescription meds, the same dung ISP providers throw every year to increase your internet bill. It’s flat out exploitation, nickel and dime the most faithful Sony ponies. If you were to consider to holding into this service you better buy pre-paid cards cheaper.

Sony, what value have you provided to your subscribers? The service has been the same, still prone to disruptions, and the games you hand out for “free” have been mostly GARBAGE. Thankfully, we have choices, thankfully, Sony isn’t the only one in the gaming biz. And thankfully, Sony is the worst one. Game on a Nintendo, Xbox, PC, etc. The PS4 has been garbage since the start. And now people will smell the lies and deceit of this company.

  • Membership extended.

  • Price hike on PS Plus is ridiculous! offer a service without the free games and just with online access for half the price and i am all for it … but just to be able to play online you shove useless games my way an expect me to pay 70 CAD a year for it ?!

  • This is my first time commenting on this blog. I’ve been a PS+ user since 2012, and I never regretted. Even though the “free” games quality have steadily decreased, I decided to keep up with the subscription. Many people here say that $10 extra per year is a very small increase, so we shouldn’t be complaining. Can I afford to pay $10 more? Of course I can. Do I want to? Hell, no! Starting from the awful way to inform us, by updating a 1 month old post. Actually, I’m still shocked about the way they handled this, and how, in spite of pages and pages of comments, we haven’t got a single answer from them. This is very bad PR, and I don’t understand how a billion dollar company can make such huge mistakes. Besides, as some others have commented before, if they at least explained what are they going to do to improve the PS+ service as a whole, meaning better quality games (I don’t expect AAA games every month, but what about giving only 1 free game per month and per platform, so we don’t always get indie games), better security and download speed. If they offered me at least some of those things, I’d gladly pay the extra $10, and I’m sure we wouldn’t read the huge amount of complains we have now. Bad move, Sony. Bad move.

  • I was fine paying $49.99 for a year or $17.99 for 3 months. But with the price being raised like this upsets me. I can’t afford it at these rates.

Heck at these rates what PS+ is right now isn’t worth the money at all. I’m not renewing my sub. Not gonna bother with this price hike.

This wasn’t warranted at all. Sony can’t match Xbox Live, it feels like these price hikes are to try to copy Microsoft’s prices, lol. Sorry Sony but your service quality isn’t as good as xbox live.

Anyways I’m pretty upset by this, I guess my PlayStation 4 will gather dust because without online its a worthless paper weight. :(

  • What about prepaid cards, are they going to be new ones with those new price amounts?

  • I really wish I stocked up on more Plus codes when they were $20/year on Black Friday 2012.
I bought 7 of them and gave 2 away as Xmas gifts.

I’m not sure I’ll continue at that price. I don’t play multiplayer and the freebie games haven’t been very exciting lately.
It’s definitely a better deal for those who play a lot of multiplayer games.

  • PSN is far too inferior compared to Xbox LIVE or Steam to command a price hike. Those greedy fat cat execs at Sony just couldn’t be happy with all that PS4 money they are sitting on, huh? Greed at its worse.
