PlayStation Now Coming to PC, DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor Unveiled

We’re excited to announce that PlayStation Now is making the jump to Windows PC. The app launches overseas in parts of Europe soon and will come to North America shortly thereafter.

This will bring a wide selection of PlayStation exclusive titles to Windows PC for the very first time, including entries in the Uncharted, God of War, and Ratchet & Clank franchises, as well as beloved PS3 games like The Last of Us and Journey. Current subscribers have a new way to access PS Now’s library of over 400 games, and the PC app provides a new way for even more gamers to discover and play the service.

We’re also introducing a new device, the DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor, which launches in early September for a suggested retail price of $24.99 ($29.99 CAD). This adaptor will let you connect a DualShock 4 to PC and Mac wirelessly, and will enable every feature of the controller you know and love: buttons, analog sticks, touch pad, light bar, motion sensors, vibration, and stereo headset jack – as long as the gaming application supports these features.

The adaptor is a great match for playing PS Now on a computer, but you can also use it for PS4 Remote Play on PC and Mac. If you haven’t yet downloaded Remote Play on your PC or Mac, grab the installer here. Of course, owning the USB Wireless Adaptor isn’t required, as you can connect a DualShock 4 using a USB cable.

Here are the recommended specs for running PS Now on your PC:

  • Windows 7 (SP1), 8.1 or 10
  • 3.5 GHz Intel Core i3 or 3.8 GHz AMD A10 or faster
  • 300 MB or more; 2 GB or more of RAM
  • Sound card; USB port

A minimum 5Mbps connection is required to use PS Now on any device. We recommend a wired Internet connection for the optimal experience.
We’ll be in touch to confirm the exact launch date of the PlayStation Now Windows PC app in North America, and stay tuned for some exciting games that will be added to the library.

    Does the USB Stick only support 1 PS4 Controller per stick? Or will 1 USB Stick allow for more than one controller?

      The adaptor supports one DS4, although you can connect a second controller with a USB cord for multiplayer on PS Now’s PC app.

      the xbox one adapter can actually support up to 8! I was hopeful that this would also do that. On the other hand, you can still always connect the DS4 to your PC over Bluetooth.

      I’ve got 4 Dualschock 4 controllers at home. So my only option would be to buy 4 of those big USB dongles for around 100 bucks, which obviously isn’t an option. First of all, it would be too expensive and second, I’d need to have 4 USB ports constantly filled with those dongles. It’s 2016, you must be kidding me?! :-D

      I can understand this kind of response, however the two are doing something entirely different. The reason why Microsoft’s approach is crappier is because their newest games will also be available on PC, making their console rather pointless since exclusives no longer ONLY live on the Xbox. For PSNow, it’s actually a good thing because it allows people to play PS3 games without needing to buy a PS3 console, something that the PS4 can’t do natively anyway. The only way this would have been “disgusting” as you put it, if it allowed PS4 games to be played on the service, making the PS4 console obsolete.

      Good riddance. I’ve been a PC gamer since I was 5 and a PlayStation gamer since the PSOne. Sony gets amazing exclusive titles that a lot of people miss out on. I see this as being good for both gamers and the developers of the exclusive titles. It allows PC gamers to enjoy these amazing games, and gets more money for the developers.

      Sony does make a wired controller. Just glue the cable into the port! Viola, wired.

      Sony’s PS4 controller does Direct Input always has, so you can use it on PC. The only difference between the DS4 wired and the DS4 wireless would be no battery inside of it so a bit less weight. Just get a long cable, you’re fine.

      Probably don’t glue it though so you don’t accidentally pull a laptop, computer, or PS4 when someone trips over the cable.

      Now i stop supporting consoles. Sony loses at Least one player here. The only reason of why a buyed a ps4 instead of a pc was their exclusives and now you are throwing to them, our competitors.       Why you gotta be so salty? This is Great, this means that some good games would no longer be exclusive, and thus make the PS4 a moot point to exist. PC should be the 1 and only Gaming platform. Hopefully Sony follows Microsoft and releases their games here too, I don’t mind a Sony Store on PC.

      Both Sony and MS lose money on the actual console sales. They don’t care about that; they want you buying games. In the past, that required selling you the hardware, but not anymore. So MS’s move was a smart one, as is Sony’s move here.

      Highly doubtful. Nothing in the article even hints or implies non PS-Now or Remote Play functionality. Don’t get your hopes up. It appears to be released expressly for PSNow – which is a ripoff (oh boy, streaming games in stereo….wowwww), so looks like a pass.

    So is this going to be some kind of emulator that will download the games on the PC and play them locally? Or is this going to be a streaming service like OnLive was? Or will it just be a new thing that the Remote Play feature will have access to, so you’ll still be having to use Remote Play to do this?

      PlayStation Now is game streaming, like OnLive (or Gaikai, which Sony acquired for this tech), and requires that (taken from the article above): A minimum 5Mbps connection is required to use PS Now on any device. We recommend a wired Internet connection for the optimal experience.

      The games are being “played” on a remote server and the video is being streamed to you. The magic of technology keeps input and controllers almost 99% free of latency issues and it’s like you’re playing the game right from hole (or your computer, now!).

      @elchorono – It doesn’t require a 5mbps connection. It’s suggested. I play just fine and I barely get above 4mbps at best.

    This is a very smart business move for Sony. But now I know how it feels for my system’s exclusives to go to PC haha :( I still love my PS4 (and PS3) though. But the difference is that this is PS Now, which for some people might be a very shoddy connection rather than actually having a digital or physical PC copy of a PlayStation exclusive game.

    Regarding Remote play, it’s basically unusable for me anyway. I’ve tried every combination of wired/Wi-Fi connection. Fast connection, high powered laptop. No go. Drops connection continuously.

      It is possible to do this now using a generic wireless bluetooth adapter (or built-in adapter) and a program called DS4 windows but it is basically just emulating a 360 controller.

    Is the new adapter necessary? I am already able to connect my PS4 controller to my PC using the built-in bluetooth adapter. I believe an official driver is all that would be needed.

      Doubt it. Even when doing remote play you have to have the pad cabelled so it detects it. I’m guessing the light bar and motion control can’t be emulated and have to be done through hardware (dongle)

      I can’t delete. Ignore the ‘can’t be emulated’ part cos wire isn’t hardware either. Not sure why it can’t then unless standard blurletooth can’t support, just like if you put the ps4 pad on a PS3 wirelessly it won’t work 100%

      @turniplord well DS4Windows and similar software proves that the lightbar, vibration and the whole sixaxis thing can be done using plain BT the only thing may be the headset but probably this is possible as well.

    Does this adapter work on for games that only support xinput? Or is it the same as plugging in a DS4 and it doesn’t work? Could I use it anywhere a 360 controller is supported for example on PC? Because right now that is the DS4 biggest problem on PC. It doesn’t work with most modern games because most modern games only support Xinput controllers.

      @MisterAxle instead of using ds4windows it may be a cleaner way (especially because it doesnt needs admin and iirc doesnt mess with your drivers) to used x360ce, which I use for the few xinput only games I have.

    Why didn’t they must make a driver for the DS4 used via bluetooth? Not saying they shouldn’t make a USB stick for computers without bluetooth, but for ones that do have bluetooth they could just use that.

    Why would I spend $25 on this when i can use a bluetooth adapter with 3rd party drivers? Been doing this since 2013. Also with the Bluetooth adapter i can hook up more than one controller at a time.

      PSNow service is only for PS3 games. It’s somewhat Sony’s answer to backwards compatibility. The adapter is to use all the functions of the DS4 for any game you may already have on your PC/Mac.

    Hello! I would like to know how the system works.
    Does that mean that i will be able to stream from my own PS3 my own games, no currently shown on the list?
    I really want to play JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: All Star Battle on stream, but i don’t know how the whole PS NOW system will be working on my PC. Can you give me a hand and explain me?

      No. PS Now is a service that you pay for to stream PS3 games over the internet. It does not let you stream from your PS3, nor does it work with PS3 games you already bought. It has to be supported by PS Now and if you want to play something you already own on PS3 you have to pay again either with a sub or rental.

      If JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure is on PS Now you can pay however much to rent it and stream it to your PC over the internet.

    I don’t understand, why no bluetooth support? It’s built into the controller and you are able to pair it through bluetooth to the PC but the app doesn’t recognize the controller. Why?

      Remember, the PSNOW ONLY have Last-Gen games. If you have a PS4. It’s not gonna affect you.
