PlayStation Now Coming to PC, DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor Unveiled

We’re excited to announce that PlayStation Now is making the jump to Windows PC. The app launches overseas in parts of Europe soon and will come to North America shortly thereafter.

This will bring a wide selection of PlayStation exclusive titles to Windows PC for the very first time, including entries in the Uncharted, God of War, and Ratchet & Clank franchises, as well as beloved PS3 games like The Last of Us and Journey. Current subscribers have a new way to access PS Now’s library of over 400 games, and the PC app provides a new way for even more gamers to discover and play the service.

We’re also introducing a new device, the DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor, which launches in early September for a suggested retail price of $24.99 ($29.99 CAD). This adaptor will let you connect a DualShock 4 to PC and Mac wirelessly, and will enable every feature of the controller you know and love: buttons, analog sticks, touch pad, light bar, motion sensors, vibration, and stereo headset jack – as long as the gaming application supports these features.

The adaptor is a great match for playing PS Now on a computer, but you can also use it for PS4 Remote Play on PC and Mac. If you haven’t yet downloaded Remote Play on your PC or Mac, grab the installer here. Of course, owning the USB Wireless Adaptor isn’t required, as you can connect a DualShock 4 using a USB cable.

Here are the recommended specs for running PS Now on your PC:

  • Windows 7 (SP1), 8.1 or 10
  • 3.5 GHz Intel Core i3 or 3.8 GHz AMD A10 or faster
  • 300 MB or more; 2 GB or more of RAM
  • Sound card; USB port

A minimum 5Mbps connection is required to use PS Now on any device. We recommend a wired Internet connection for the optimal experience.
We’ll be in touch to confirm the exact launch date of the PlayStation Now Windows PC app in North America, and stay tuned for some exciting games that will be added to the library.

  • Could somebody please confirm whether or not connecting the PS4 controller to the PC via USB cable allows for usage of headphones via the headphone jack? Or is that only available via the new adapter?

  • can this be used on ps4 to help with bluetooth problems at Black ops 3 Lan events

  • HEY WHAT ABOUT MY PLATFORM I WANT YOUR TO SUPPORTING A XBOX ONE CONSOLE STEAM LINUX DEBIAN BEOS GNU INTERFACE SYSTEM DELUXE PACKAGE

  • Coming to Australia???

  • Can PS Now games on PC be played with a controller other than a DS4? Like say, my Razer Sabertooth?

  • Could the adapter work on PS3? Be able to use the stereo jack and ps button.

  • why the remote is not working with bluetooth?
the pc see the remote but we are unable to play with the remote on remote play

  • Debería tener sólo la plataforma para PC. no tiene gracia que te exigan tener PS4 para poder usar los juegos en PC.

  • Will this work for all steam games on pc? I sure hope so other programs are glitchy when using with some pc and steam games. Def will get for wireless remote play!

  • Any news when we might see this in the UK :)

  • Oh supports just one controller at a time and no PS3 controllers. Otherwise would have been interested for general PC multiplayer gaming and Quantic Dream’s PS4 titles if released for PS Now.

  • Any one know if you can use a DS3 controller? because I don’t want to have to fork out like £40 for a new controller.

  • The fact that PlayStation Now for PC has just been released is great, as it will give everyone the chance play the best games online: http://playstationnow.yolasite.com/

  • Been able to use a PS4 controller (yes wireless too) on a PC for a while now. Sure it makes it look like a Xbox 360 controller but it works and is $24.99 cheaper than this, so what is the difference?

P.S. can I play my bought PS3 game discs on my PS4 for FREE yet? be nice if you would get on that as having to pay for a service that allows me to play games I already bought is just a slap in the face to those of us that understand this is not a godly gift to have to pay even more for games we already bought.

    • Nope, the PS3 (well the original PS3 with 4 USB ports) was the last of the BW compatible consoles. PS Now appears to be the closest thing to having BW compatibility. Still hoping for a PS4 add-on or something at some point that will allow me to use my PS3 library on it, but not holding breath.

  • Chromebook support in the future would be nice especially since Chromebooks are only going to continue to improve. May have to settle for trying to fiddle with CrossOver once that is finally out for Android/CR OS

  • This is BS. You do not need an adapter to connect a ds4 via BT and use it. Sony is just finding a way to screw over its users for an extra buck. Or in this case 30

  • Would there be support for linux?? or maybe in the future at least??

  • This is VERY tempting, particularly given that I’m mainly on my PC these days. That being written, you don’t actually own the games with this subscription right? They’re only available so long as you have it? So what if I get a 7 day trial for Trials of Cold Steel, but I only got halfway into the game before the subscription runs out?

  • Nice…for smartphone too was a good idea..

  • Please release games on Ps Now when they are first released. Games like Until dawn, Uncharted 4, herizon zero dawn and god of war 4.

  • I am going to assume the answer to this is no, but I thought I would ask anyways. Would the USB Dongle be compatible with Sony’s own Blu-ray players so that users accessing PS Now via this route will be able to use their controllers wirelessly?

  • Does this mean you will finally release windows drivers for PS3 controllers? I’m dying to use my PS3 controller to play indie games on PC!

  • The new USB Wireless Adapter is a welcomed addition, specifically because it provides native use of the touchpad, lightbar, and controller vibration on PC. Although it’s always been possible to connect the DualShock 4 to the PC via a USB cable/Bluetooth, these three features weren’t available without the use of third-party software. This has been particularly frustrating both as a player and an aspiring developer, seeing other successful developers who have been unable to offer controller vibration to players who prefer the DualShock 4 controller on PC. (Psyonix of “Rocket League” fame has mentioned this limitation on their forums in the past)

With that in mind: This blog post mentions that the use of a USB cable is acceptable, suggesting that these specific features will function correctly with or without the USB Wireless Adapter.

For players who prefer a USB cable, should we expect to see a new set of official DualShock 4 drivers to download and install?

Will developers be able to target the aforementioned features on PC, for wired and wireless DualShock 4 players?

  • So, do we have to use a DS4 controller to actually use PS Now on PC? I don’t really need to buy a new controller just on PC.

  • it says amd 10 recommended. how do you think it would be with amd 8?:I

  • this is a great idea–people make comments about why doing this only helps Microsoft–how is that–this makes me want to get a playstation now subscription so I can play games when not home and cant take my playstation with me everywhere I go–so now when I am not home I can get my ps game fix on my pc away from home–now when are going to offer it again for 100 bucks a year

  • The PC market (especially for PC Gaming) in Germany is the strongest in the world and Sony hasn’t announced a launch date yet. What a shame!

  • Wow, way to go Sony, releasing your exclusives for another platform. Just look at the pc gamers only here, begging for PS4 games also, you are bringing it to yourselves. Looks like console gaming is disappearing after all, it was a fun ride, but it‘s OVER.

    • Begging? Most of Sony’s new exclusives are barely games. You can get the experience by watching them on youtube.

  • Does it work in edinburgh now? I downloaded the app and connected my controller click a game but it doesnt start up can someone help?

  • I know on the ps4, ps now is only previous gen titles….will ps now for the PC have current gen titles too? Because that would be smart. If you don’t then xbox wins.

  • Will this work with pc games that support xbox controllers? Don’t want to use software to trick pc into thinking ds4 is an xbox controller anymore : P

  • Its great to see that the PlayStation Now platform is Coming to PC, plus, DualShock and 4 USB Wireless Adaptor, as this will make everything more compatible in the long run: http://playstationnow.yolasite.com/

  • Are there any plans to enable Playstation Now for South American countries?

  • I tried to set it up on my PC so I could play games like Momodora on it and it won’t take any codes I give it ;_;

  • coming to South America? (Argentina), Thanks! Ale

  • Can you use the usb dongle to play pc games with a ps4 controller

  • Yay Sony’s first party exclusives are no more. Zero exclusives now. Oh well. xD

  • Or how about just coming out with a PC gaming platform, and just call it “PlayStation” similar to Steam/Uplay/Origin and port your exclusives to PC with keyboard and mouse support and utilize the power of today’s PC’s, much better idea.

Most people buy consoles because they’re affordable, the games would still technically be a ‘console exclusive’ for people who can’t afford expensive gaming PC’s, it’s not hurting anyone.

There are a ton of PC gamers that will never buy a PS4 or any console for that matter regardless of how good the exclusives are, and it’s because you have to use a controller at all times, so really you can only win by doing something like this. A streaming service mostly consisting of games you can buy used for $5 isn’t very attractive, even on PC, especially since the games aren’t going to look any better and won’t support keyboard/mouse.

I would spend what a full year of PS Now costs just on a proper port of The Last of Us Remastered with support for 144hz monitors and full keyboard/mouse support, and I know I’m not alone on that.

    • To elaborate a bit more on what I’m saying, PS Now on PC is better than nothing for people who don’t own any PlayStation consoles, but if they don’t own a PlayStation console by now, chances are it’s because the experience of gaming with a controller doesn’t appeal to them.

  • Hey, can we please get Xbox 360 controller support?

please dont attack me im poor and ds4’s are 50 bucks and ive already got a 360 controller

Actually what would be better, is Keyboard and Mouse support.

  • It’s over they don’t need Ps4 slim and neo consoles. First party exclusives are no longer :p Sony has zero exclusives. Nintendo are happy. Oh well. :P lol too funny.

  • First make it available on all the countries. You’re always disappointing us.

  • Wonderful. Now if you could just add Folklore, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Ni no Kuni, and maybe God Hand to Playstation Now I can sell my PS3.

  • I can’t belive their already doing this. I knew they were going to do this but I didn’t think i would come out this early!!!!

  • Playstation should also make it work on mobile devices( of course not the controller cause the screen is small but make a joystick inside the phone).

  • but wow. WOW

  • Everyone will love the fact that they can access PlayStation games from their PC, as it will save them from having to buy a PlayStation console. Plus, PlayStation Now has thousands of games ready to play on demand: http://playstationnow.zohosites.com/

  • Can’t wait. I wonder why there’s no definite launch date though. Seems kind of weird, because I mean it’s not really that hardware dependent. Seems like it’s just a matter of scaling up the servers to deal with the demand.

  • I’m just wondering when demon’s souls will come to PS Now as that was one of the games i played the most on PS3

  • When will Party Chat via Remote Play be available? Even Xbox One can do it…

  • … and let me guess, Sony still isn’t bringing PS4 controller pairing support to the PS Vita. Looks like i’ll never buy the Vita.
