New Channels, Additional Lineup Change Coming to PlayStation Vue

We have some new updates about PlayStation Vue to share with you today. First, we’re happy to announce the addition of new channels to PlayStation Vue, including BBC America and NBA TV launching tomorrow, as well as VICE and more local broadcast stations from CBS and Fox coming soon.

Additionally, starting at 12:01am Eastern Time on November 11, all Viacom-owned networks will no longer be available on PlayStation Vue. This includes channels such as Comedy Central, Spike, and MTV. At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans. As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans.

It’s been quite a busy year for us since launching ESPN, ABC and other Disney-owned networks; we have expanded the service nationwide, added highly requested channels such as NFL Network and HBO, and introduced new PS Vue enabled devices such as Roku, Android TV and web support for PC and Mac. As demonstrated by the new channels announced today, we will continue to expand the PlayStation Vue service by adding devices and networks that are highly requested by our fans.

PlayStation Vue subscribers will continue to enjoy the popular features that make the service unique, such as simultaneous streaming and cloud-based DVR. We are continuing to add value and flexibility with multiple plan options to choose from, as well as a la carte options such as recent additions of HBO and Cinemax.

Remember that there is no long-term commitment required for any PlayStation Vue plan. You can visit www.psvue.com for more information.

We want to thank all of you for your continued support, and we look forward to all that’s ahead.

  • I’m not going to panic just yet. Yeah, its a pain in the rear, but this isn’t the first time a content provider has pulled this price raising nonsense. It was only a couple years ago that AMC raised its rate for DirecTV right before the premier of the new season of Walking Dead, and DirecTV was going to dump AMC until they ‘miraculously’ came to an agreement. I think it will be sorted out eventually.
On the flip side, what I don’t like about Vue is that they advertise a certain number of channels, but a lot of them are throwaways. Such as the Big Ten Network. There is the main BTN, and then 3 ‘alternate’ BTN’s that are showing the same thing! That’s simply inflating your channel count.
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. Just gonna sit tight for now and see how it plays out.

  • I am very excited about NBA TV being added. Now I have all my sports on vue. My kid watches Disney so losing Viacom doesn’t affect me at all. But for all the people being mad at Sony they should be mad at Viacom for always raising prices.

  • This is completely disappointing! And, it’s ridiculous how fast this was thrown on us! Our family watched Spike, MTV, Nickelodeon, basically every channel they removed! Big mistake Sony! I’ve been a loyal customer for about 6 months now. I’ve tried to encourage friends, coworkers, even strangers to eliminate cable and go with PlayStation Vue. It WAS the best value out there! If people are feeling anywhere close to what I’m feeling, then this business move is going to cost you thousands of customers. It would have been different if these were channels that weren’t so popular! I’m completely disappointed, and will be canceling this month.

  • Let me just say that I’m fuming mad right now. I realize that Viacom are a bunch of *****. They did the same thing when we had direct TV but at least Direct TV gave us a notice and continued negotiations. You ****** gave us a 24hr ***** notice?!!!!! My kids are without Nick Jr. Tonight and all the shows I had recorded disappeared wtf?!! And then you try to disguise it by adding two bull**** channels that are not even equivalent to what we lost! I referred so many people to you guys and I never will again. Fix it by the end of the month or I’m gone!!!!

  • Congratulations Playstation!! You just lost yourself a lot of customers!! Including me!! I was paying for the other worthless channels because you offered Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon. Now there is just AMC. I’ll be ending my subscription at the end of this month since I’ve already paid for November. Your DVR cuts off shows before they are over and now you don’t have the content most people want. Thanks for screwing up a good thing. In your effort to “keep prices low” you cut the content a lot of us were here for. Now your subscriptions are going to drop.

  • Wow. Really. I hope you’re dropping your prices too! I feel super screwed! You can’t offer VIACOM as an add on?! A LOT of people including me love Comedy Central, Nick & Mtv. You just lost a customer for sure.

  • 2 days notice… well, none really, since there was no email or mailer I only found out when it disappeared from the lineup i was watching on my Roku, and…
midway through the billing cycle and a “no refund” policy…
Removing 10 channels that I’ve already paid to watch and replacing them with only 2 and …
you’re not reducing the subscription fee with the diminished service

That, right there, is how you drive off customers… well this Vue customer anyways

I don’t know if I’m going back to Sling or try out the Directv Now that’s been mentioned in this thread, but either way, i’m gone and I won’t be back until you’ve restored value to your product

  • Two of my favorites, TVland and LOGO gone. The two channels I watched, most. I’m in a one week free trial and will be gone, tomorrow. Thanks for nothing!

    • At Least your still in a trial. they got me for my 74. a few days ago! I was only 4 days in. Sony did this to catch customers like me. They new they were losing these channels for awhile and gave us a few days notice! Terrible! direct tv now is supposed to be here by the end of the month. i’ll be cancelling and going there.

  • Found out that these channels were gone, when in the middle of watching one of the now unavailable channels the screen flashed and came back to Roku Menu. I believe this was a terrible decision to remove these channels. If there is a dispute with viacom for the price of channel packages then that should be disclosed in this announcement letter above putting the blame on that network, with the consumer having the choice to pay for these channels as an add-on instead of saying “we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans”. Which indicates you know what is best for us or what we prefer. Also adding 3 channels with very low popularity will not be able to substitute for such a drastic change. Where has the value gone with this package? Will there be a price reduce? To many question have not been answered. Is sony wanting to get away from streaming? Please sony listen to your consumers and let us decide.

  • Viacom is losing money and merger talks are happening with CBS, Viacom also has a new CEO, Viacom is not profitable. I think once they get their crap in order Sony will bring them back. It’s not like this is uncommon for tv providers to drop/suspend networks based on price increases….maybe an a la carte option? I could care less about any of these Chanel’s, but many may care less about what I like, hence the issue at hand, how do we make everyone happy at a decent price point!?!?!?!?!

  • Please please bring these stations back! We watch these channels everyday and I really don’t want to have to switch to another streaming option.

  • In summary, everyone completely dislikes the move that Sony has made. It’s a bit funny how they said to enjoy the new channels (NBA, BBC AMERICA and another useless channel) but not give the community of paid subscribers an option to voice their opinions on whether or not channels should be added or replaced. Granted these types of things happen alot, it would have made people like me and the rest of you all whom have PS VUE much more happier if given the chance to voice our thoughts on the decision.
Also, if you didn’t catch it in the description when explaining what’s happening, they made sure to say “you are not required to stay keep your subscription” in other words, if you don’t like what we’ve done, Leave! If you ask me, it’s an odd choice of words to keep your ‘fans’ around.

  • So since I’m going to have less channels is the price going to drop aswell I mean that only seems fair. I’ve had PlayStation vue since it came out and I’m very upset about this and I just renewed my monthly subscription I wished they would had told me this before I did it .. I hope they get those channels back or else Ima have to find another streaming services.

  • No loss to me I never watch any of the Viacom channels never did on TWC ether

  • LOL my viewing is mabe bit to high brow for some..All steaming devices carry almost what I like or want. I chose VUE cause they are the only ones I know of that FNC and FBN stream LIVE and not recorded past shows or news clips like the roku app does or on fire tv, xbox etc.the Roku PBS app isn’t live but that’s ok.No need for VUE to pick PBS up. I was happy to see BBC america get on Vue.

I watch a lot of sports so all the ESPN’s is nice and FOX Sports. (big10) NBCsn. Maybe CBS sports soon?
Not a large movie watcher but is not to have the options. They make pick up Viacom down the road if Viacom get there act together.
Do not know the VUE’s business model so have no clue if they paid viacom or viacom paid Sony to stream..
I knew that was always the hassle with TWC the networks etc wanting more $ from twc. And who ended up paying for it the viewer.
Isn’t that what paid advertising is for. I could see if cable networks didn’t do ads and there revenue came from the carriers who carried them. But ,they arnt they do there own ad’s

  • To me that’s like Trucking firms telling the states you have to pay us if you want us to use your highways.

Anyway all these outfits are not going to make all viewers happy. Maybe it will lean to more ala carte. IF some of these network channels depended on the viewership to survive they’ll work on providing better content or they would just fold up..

  • Pardon some typos ,tiny print.

  • Yeah im gonna go a different route instead of psn vue due to this change. Nick and nickjr are gone. I wish there would of been a package option to pay more and keep them i liked psvue. Just lost my business

  • This is HORRIBLE! For those of us with children this deeply affects our choice of provider as they lose about half of the programming a want for them. Deeply disappointed in this decision and have to now reevaluate my options

  • Might lessen the sting a bit if the prices were cut along with it. Losing some of the biggest channels and adding crap like vice isn’t exactly the best trade

    • Seriously, vice is the worst channel on television, for sony to brag about getting it while losing comedy central is real comedy

  • Wohoo! NBA TV is here, now i can catch some of the games

    • What games are you trying to catch? The 97 Championship Game between the Rockets and Magic? lol…seriously though…I hardly ever see a live game on that channel…and even if it was a live game it’s usually not worth watching….

  • Losing comedy central is a huge loss to me, the rest of the channels dont matter though. Gaining BBC and NBA, dont care at all about those. “Gaining” viceland? Vice is by far the worst channel on TV to the point Id almost be willing to pay not to have it. Maybe work on getting the history channel and then Id be more ok with losing comedy central.

    • Agreed. Vice sucks as do the NBA channels. I don’t watch basketball. We lose 22 channels in exchange for three I’ll never watch – for the same price. Yeah, that sounds reasonable!

  • So i dont belive i got an email about this either. Seems like an email would have been a legit way of informing us. ALSO is it me or is it kinda a way to do it cuz you cant call them after 830pm and this started at 901 pacific time. Wow looks like ill try kodi or use my costco membership and direct tv and att. Cell phone service for 65.00$ including 4 tvs and dvr with badically same channels plus more. Just those damn broadcast fees and taxes, but atleast it will be a legit business. I just started view nov 1st and didnt tell me about this. I bought a ps 4 just for this, luckily through costco easy return.

  • Nick Jr. was the whole reason I went with PSVue over Sling. I guess its time to switch

  • This is bull. Drop around 10 channels to add 3? Yeah, Sony is money-hungry. Now, my kids can’t watch NickJr. and my wife is pissed she’s looking Comedy Central. Good job. You just lost a valuable customer.

  • Wow, bad news. I’ve been blowing the Vue trumpet since you guys picked up the Disney networks. But dropping Viacom is not good. Breaks my heart but I guess I have to crawl back to Comcast. Damn it Sony.

  • I will be canceling my membership to Playstation Vue because of the loss of these major channels. Viacom had content that was a contingent factor of deciding a television streaming service. If in the future these channels were added again, I would purchase the Vue service again. Until then, I am forced to use a rival television streaming service, which I in no way would like to do.

  • Ok so first of all, why? All those channels I paid for and now they’re gone??!! This is ridiculous

  • I just dropped cable a month ago and we’ve been pretty happy with Playstation Vue. I won’t miss the channels that got dropped except for Spike (Bar Rescue and Inkmasters) and Nick Jr which my grandson loves. All I’d like to see added is History and Lifetime. This is not a deal breaker yet. We’re certainly not going back to cable. We’ll just wait and see what happens over the coming weeks. I agree that this change could have been addressed much better but at least I got an email this morning from Sony that alerted me to it. I imagine everyone did. Better than nothing.

  • Just adding my voice to the others… Unfortunately, I may have to find an alternate service. I have only been using Vue for a few months and I really like it. However, I have an 8 year old daughter and the loss of Nick channels is significant. I will give it a short while and see if they come back, but if they’re not back soon I have no choice but to look elsewhere.

  • Plain and simple, just either give us more channels. Are a price cut….

  • Without Comedy Central this service is now pretty useless thanks PlayStation you had something great now it’s slowing going to crap because you are taking away the good channels please please please reconsider. I would give up half of my channels just to have that one. There’s got to be something you can do tho I’m sure you won’t. I fear Sony really doesn’t care about its customers anymore. Smh

  • Great so I just found out Viacom has been bought by comcast so you can put the pieces together from there hopfully they will re-negotiate deals with vue, I did call support and they gave me a 5$ rienbersment so atleast its something.

  • You fools had a good thing going and now you have totally lost me and I’m sure many other customers who have kids who need those channels. I already have a new provider stepping in tomorrow due to this change. Bye bye Sony Vue….

  • This is such BS, I wish they were doing this during my 7 days trial period.

CBS is only to certain cities and that turns out well, which is fine, ’cause I can always watch it online, not ideal.
But pulling quite a few channels without give enough time for its customer to react such as Comedy Central thus we can decide whether or not to stay with PS Vue,

    It is just not right!
Not the way to do communicate to customer and business, Sony.

Feel like slap in the face when defend PS when Xfinity (don’t support PS- HBO GO) blow low punch in the past.

Seriously thinking to go back to cable and Xbox (at least Xbox set the bar low and don’t pull s**t like this) now.

  • Same price, less channels? Plus the channels that were removed were some of the good ones that I would watch. The price should be reconsidered on your lart if you want to keep me.

  • This is really awful news! I am just now cutting the cord and after months of research on the best way to do it I finally decided to go with PSvue. I literally just signed up for my account today and set up my new Amazon Fire TV I purchased just for this service to find out they are losing Comedy Central!

I am so dissapointed right now, this is an absolute deal breaker! I can’t believe they think this is “in the best interest of what their customers want.” Do they have any idea how many people watch Comedy Central???

After my free trial is up I will be switching to slingTV, it looks like they still have these channels…I am so dissapointed since the PSVue platform is a better option but this channel lineup is an absolute deal breaker for me.

Please do something to bring back Comedy Central!

  • Without going into details, I understand the decision to remove the channels from a business perspective. However, as a customer, this is not what I signed up for, and may choose to check out another service.

I’m mostly upset because I had Dish for 7 years, but burned that bridge just last month when I switched to Vue, and I also bought about $300 worth of equipment (fire tvs, antennas…), so that will all be a waste if I have to return to something like Directv in order to get the channels I want.

I’m going to wait for the launch for Directv Now, and also keep my fingers crossed that Vue can renegotiate with Viacom, but I won’t be holding my breath, or holding on to Vue once I decide on an option that does provide what I want.

  • I had been happy with the PlayStation Vue but with no Viacom stations and no option to purchase as a stand alone I will be looking for other options. Sony you didn’t adjust your price for less channels and how about giving your subscribers more notice. I will definitely take a look at Direct TV Now when it launches!!!

  • What a shame. The only reason I signed up for this service in the first place is because it offered Nickelodeon channels my little one likes, and was still priced reasonably. Time to look at different options…*sigh*

  • If Nick is out- I’m out. Not worth it. I have young children. Its all they watch!

  • I’m not a subscriber yet but was considering Vue to replace Fios which is getting to expensive but now that I see some of the channels my family members like to see being removed gives me second thoughts and is making me lean towards other options. Maybe Playstation Vue should create a system or some type of package where the customer can customize there own channel lineups and charge accordingly.

  • I left Directv for Playstation Vue because they had Spike and AMC… I really only watch Ink Master and the Walking Dead. Now it’s hard to justify $39.99 just for Walking Dead. I have to see if Sling offer Spike.

  • Are you guys stupid? You just won our business and you decide to take off your decent channels? Expect a cancelation and expect playstaion vue to be the next HD DVD. Get a brain you guys. I have always been with Play Station but now I’m starting to wish I bought an xbox.

  • Sony has to drop the price as well as fix the ads on the Vue page. They can no longer brag about “60+ channels” and swear we’re really getting a great deal by removing so many and the 3 are not on all tiers.

  • I am a little up set that they have removed these Channels. But I can see why they did it. They would have had to upper our prices then that would have made a lot of customers unhappy. Either way they have unhappy customers. We have sling TV as well they offer CMT, Logo TV land and the rest of them for five extra dollars. I will not be leaving Vue. Unless they take ABC And CBS away then that will be a deal breaker for me. We love PlayStation Vue. KUDOS Vue add more channels please like WGN History Hallmark channels like that.

    • It appears they made more customers unhappy by removing 22 channels that folks watch ALOT, while charging the same price. The least they could have done, to bridge the gap, was offered the Viacom channels at an additional cost to those who will not continue to subscribe without them.

  • I just signed us up this past month twith Vue. I will be unsubscribing as soon as I determine what will work best for my FAMILY. My daughter came to me and is the one that showed me Nickelodeon was no longer available. If I had any notion that Vue would not be carrying Nick, I would have never signed up. This is a fail. While I dont watch any MTV related things anymore, I also believe there are a fair amouth of Vue subscribers that had MTV or Spike in their crosshairs as for a way to get their streaming with the convenience I’m THAT Dad right now, Sony.

  • I spent nearly an hour asking your customer service to explain why I cannot get my charges reduced due to the lineup decrease. She refused to offer up any explanation.I understand you are trying to save your customers the price increase, but you’re basically asking us to pay same price for less content. So where are we saving here?

  • Dropping vue for non-renewal. Good thing only 2 weeks left in it. Very disappointed that you dropped Nickelodeon and nick Jr. My kids loved that and I could personally care less about nba tv. Hopefully you change it back for future! I think a lot of people will be disappointed. I know I have told a lot of parents about this streaming service and they are going to be disappointed!

  • Seriously??? You drop Nick/Nick Jr, which is a must have for us parents, and try to put a positive spin on it??? I understand trying to keep the cost down, but this can be a deal breaker for many of us.
