Valkyria Revolution Hits PS4, PS Vita Spring 2017

Valkyria Revolution (formerly Valkyria Azure Revolution, if you’ve been watching the title in Japan) is poised to make landfall on the shores of the Americas and Europe in 2017 on PS4 and PS Vita!

Valkyria Revolution

Now, maybe you tried Valkyria Chronicles Remastered earlier this year, or maybe you and the rest of Squad 7 persevered through the Gallian Empire invasion back on PS3 in 2008. Well, take one last look at those memories, because war is about to change.

Quite literally a revolution from previous Valkyria titles, Valkyria Revolution takes place in an alternate time, continent, and universe. However, there are a few common threads throughout: the magical, azure-colored mineral ragnite returns in this game; as do the Valkyria, the last of an ancient race of highly destructive, demi-gods.

Valkyria Revolution shows how a single spark can ignite the inferno of war. Five lifelong friends consumed by personal revenge plunge an entire continent into a terrible war, sacrificing the lives of countless innocents for a cause based on twisted half-truths and outright lies. This “Circle of Five” use their combined political and military influence to motivate their small, economically blockaded homeland to rise up as a powerful resistance against imperialist oppressors.

Will the Circle of Five be remembered as heroic liberators, or will their selfish motives expose them as traitorous conspirators who sacrificed untold lives just to carry out a personal vendetta?

Heavy, right? That’s the story players will be chipping away at in Valkyria Revolution, but there are lots of other elements at play.

It’s a ground-up look at war, and the blurred lines of morality it inevitably crosses. Ultimately, the game asks: Are you truly a hero? Or just the least despicable bad guy? And speaking of morality – permadeath is a returning gameplay element as well. Sure, it may be tactically advantageous to sacrifice a soldier for the good of the team, but you’ll have to be the one who bears the bad news to their next of kin.

Valkyria Revolution

Combat is strikingly different from Valkyria Chronicles, as well. In Revolution, turn-based action is replaced with active-style combat on a living, evolving battlefield. Tactics still play an important role, and your squad has highly customizable AI. You can adjust their battle role to prioritize general roles like Offense, Defense, and Support, or you can get granular and have individuals focus on when to use spells or guns, or even whether they should target enemy grunts or leaders first.

Plus, there’s a highly customizable weapons tree. Players can decide which upgrades they want to make to their unique, individual melee weapons, and augment by figuring out which ranged weapon works best – anything from a pistol to a rocket launcher.

And finally, let’s not forget – this is war: the fate of a nation and countless lives are on the line. There are plenty of contacts you’ll have to make in order to keep the military intelligence going – and your relationship with your squadmates may mean the difference between survival or ruinous defeat.

Valkyria Revolution will arrive in the Americas and Europe in spring of 2017. The PS4 version will be available both physically and digitally in all regions. The PS Vita version will be digital-only for all regions.

  • Wow , great news! … I’ll definitely be getting this, and I got a question John, will we ever see the 3 Valkyria Chronicles trilogy games remastered for PS4 ?!

  • I will get this to support the Valkyria name but Valkyria Chronicles 3 HAS to come over here in some shape or form. The fact we still are missing that game in a great franchise is a great injustice. I would easily toss $20 for it.

  • Huge fan of Valkyria Chronicles and am very interested to see how this spin-off turns out. Day-1 buy for me, no question about it. Anything I can do to support the series, I’ll do so happily! Thank you for bringing this over and continuing to give Valkyria a chance, SEGA. It’s very much appreciated. Hope that someday we can maybe see a Valkyria Chronicles 2 & 3 HD released on PS4/Steam!

  • Please take my money

  • Please inform the SEGA boss that he should post a poll on their websites that asks the SEGA fans if they would like to see the following games appear on the current console generation

Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
    Zombie Revenge
    Outrun Arcade Online
    Spider-man: The Video Game

And I bet you they will all vote yes.

Spiderman movie franchises are getting hot again ever since SONY pictures and Marvel team up. How can SEGA drop the ball?

Don’t tell me that the Spider-man game license is currently owned by another company. If Konami was able to do it with the Simpsons and X-men re-release on PS3, SEGA could too if they really want it.

  • I am super excited about this game. It sounds great. The story concept also some highly intriguing and unique.
One of the problems is that we -the non-Japan Valkyria Chronicles fans worldwide (I am from Israel), who loved the original VC so much – never got to play the rest of the series.
I think what will satisfy fans and perhaps ease the transition into a new universe, combat system, story and setting – will be releasing a VC Trilogy Remaster Collection – with FULL ENGLISH VOICE ACTING AND TRANSLATION for the PS4 (and maybe PC).

We fell in love with the story, the characters that felt real, the setting, the music, the undeniable charm -and the gameplay.
I welcome the change. I just hope the next game will absorb and grow from the original game, building upon what made the original so iconic. Valkyria Revolution should keep those strong elements to make our hearts fell in love all over again: Power Voice Acting, immersive setting, believable characters, fantastic music and art style, charming conversations and emotional custscenes and of course solid unique engaging highly tactical gameplay!

  • Seems like Sony is not able to keep a single third party exclusive. Next one going multi will be… which one? Persona 5? Dragon quest heroes?
Once I used to buy Playstation for exclusive japanese games, such as jrpg. Now all is gone multi: FF, KH, and slowly some others too. Dragon Quest will be probably out on Nintendo too, for example. So I don’t see anymore strong reasons to choose Playstation. Sony, you keep on ignoring many exclusive third parties, and you ll lose a fan.

Anyway… happy about this game. Of course I’ll take it for PS4!

    • The decision to make 3rd party game exclusive or not is not in the hand of sony, since ps4 sold 50m worldwide I’m sure it will have many more 3rd party game compared to others console.

    • Dear anszbd1 friend, and dear Sony,
“the decision to make 3rd party game exclusive” is in the hand OF MONEY!
If a hardware house really really cares for them, it’s just talking with them, paying the exclusivity (or the whole development, making it a locked second party). I always loved PS consoles because they were best home for jrpg players, full of jrpg exclusives. It was for the PS(1/2) being the most sold console but it was also Sony effort: they put themselves into jrpg with developing The legend of dragoon, Dark Cloud, Arc, Dark Chronicles, etc. Today Sony doesn’t care anymore about that stuff. It’s all mostly western games or games aimed to western market.
What Sony seems to ignore is that Japanese games and jrpg don’t appeal just to Japan, but part of west market too. It’s not all people buy PS for God of war, or Grand theft auto, or Uncharted. There is plenty of people buying PS from ages because of games like Valkyria Chronicles, Persona, Kingdom hearts, Dragon Quest, and also “minor” jrpg like Wild arms, Breath of fire, etc. But this games are (almost) all gone multi (aside those literally vanished) so historical fans of jrpg and Playstation have no reason anymore to stay on Sony.

    • Really, Sony has to start caring about me… us… too! Not just typical wester gamer.

Also because Sony does not only ignores taking this kind of games as exclusive. Sony also ignores them at its conferences. Just take this great example: Persona 5. That game is not niche as many may think (have any idea how much a simple port like P4G sold on PSV in west?).It’s big game, any jrpg fan is waiting. It was among top 10 anticipated games on neogaf (biggest gamer forum ever) for years. And Sony doesn’t even take the simple effort to show it JUST A BIT during a conference. Never. Persona 5 has never been really showed by Sony itself at its conferences. Just once, years ago, to announce PS4 version. Then: nothing. A big great game like that, Sony exclusiv, treated by Sony as it s trash in west

  • I like playing as the good guy in the first game, I don’t want to “sacrifice the lives of countless innocents for a cause based on twisted half-truths and outright lies” :(

  • I’m curious, will this game have a dub? The previous titles that were localized has.

  • Hi John. This is great news, I’ll be taking advantage of the Vita version at some point but I may end up waiting for a sale price. I noticed that I’m more likely to buy at full price for physical and wait for sale pricing on digital. I’m not sure if that’s a trend or not. Keep showing the Vita love guys. We are a small customer base but we try to speak loud with our wallets.

  • I’m glad to hear that you are having new games for Vita. Nintendo has announced their new console Switch. It’s amazing. I’d like to have something like that from Sony, too, so that I could play PS5 remotely with it in the near future. Tell me, WHERE IS next-gen PSP/PSV?

  • First let me say thank you for bringing a new installment for one of may favorite games from the last generation. Now about the 2 that didn’t make it over… I am a first gen monster hunter so I know the pain of a installment of a game not making it over but as the first game was remastered could we possibly see 2 and 3 get a remastered port?

  • I liked the first game.
The second game went way too anime.
But I’ll look out for this one.
See if I can cheese this game like I did with the first one with scout class.
    Find that cheap stuff!

  • The fact that anyone even remembers the PS Vita outside of Japan is a miracle. Although I really hate buying digital games for PS Vita, considering how expensive PS Vita’s memory cards continue to be. T,T

Still, I’ll keep my hopes up for future ATLUS/ SEGA titles to get physical releases here in the United States, considering some of my favorite titles are from SEGA and ATLUS.

  • When will VC 3 see a localized release in the US? That survey that was part of the VC PS4 port was heavily hinting at it. Will we ever see it, or will that VC3 art book have been translated and released in the US for no reason?

  • Alright. Please have this dual audio/English dubbed

  • I’m glad that they’re still showing support for the vita. Makes me happy. :)

  • Speaking of Sega games, Sonic Team should’ve ported sonic cd to the vita for download and support a Japanese release for sonic transformed for both the PlayStation Vita and 3DS handhelds sooner.
