That description, however, would be selling short the full potential of TruBroadcast presentations. We’ve also restructured and refined upwards of 10,000 presentations and combined them with enhanced AI, revamped cameras, improved on-screen displays, and expanded audio to deliver the most realistic baseball gaming experience to date. Without question, this is our biggest leap forward in blurring the line between reality and our game. We realize that anything that detracts from this reality and requires suspension of disbelief can shatter the feeling that you are playing in a real game. To that end, we’ve worked tirelessly to create a single presentation mode that expands upon the emotion and variety that TV broadcast presentations offer while simultaneously improving upon the continuity of Real Time presentations. TruBroadcast presentations equal more baseball specificity combined with more realistic game flow!

Continuity, or game flow, is one of the presentation aspects that we focused on most while creating TruBroadcast presentations. We wanted to offer enhanced emotion and variety with a single presentation mode while at the same time avoiding disconnects in actor location. We don’t want a camera cut to reveal that an actor, or actors, had seemingly teleported across the field. We want to avoid disconnects that throw you out of the illusion that you’re watching an actual TV broadcast. With those goals in mind, we tirelessly studied countless MLB broadcasts and restructured thousands of presentations to improve the timing of the camera cuts, the framing of the camera shots, and the importance of who we cut the camera to. We hope all our hard work and improvements confuse you a little more as to whether you’re playing MLB The Show or watching a live broadcast.

To mimic a true broadcast feel for our on-screen displays, we’ve spent many hours researching regular season/playoff games and gained a lot of knowledge on what information an actual broadcast is passing to the viewer. We’ve also noticed how the on-screen displays transition on and off the screen and how simple and straightforward the look of it appears. When showing information on an on-screen display, showing little things like the pitcher’s pitch count and how many runners each team has left on base keeps you informed without overloading you with too much. We’ve simplified our on-screen displays by just showing statistical information and removing unwanted graphics. A good example of this is the removal of mug shots from the batter walkup display.

In terms of audio, the goal this year was the same as it’s been since we launched on the PS3 in 2007 – continue to grow the base and make the game deeper and deeper. To that end, we’ve added more than 70 hours of new recordings to the game this year, many involving both and sometimes all three of our main announcers. One main area of focus relates to season mode, where you’ll find much more content that centers around player stats, recent team performance, and both team and league leaders.

To further advance our idea of TruBroadcast, we’ve also added more detail to our jumbotrons this year. In MLB 12 The Show we took on the task of replicating each team’s jumbotron to have the exact design and feel of the actual team’s displays. Our jumbotrons now show actual batter and pitcher statistics, lineups, and previous at-bat info, just like at every real MLB ballpark. We’ve also added new HD-quality movies to be displayed on our jumbotrons so when the home team strikes out a batter or hits a home run, a movie will display to show the excitement and realism within our stadiums.

Lastly, we’ve added laser ribbons to each stadium that currently utilizes them. So you might ask, “what do we display on these laser ribbons?” Well, for starters all our movies, statistics, and anything that we feel will really bring the crowd to their feet in anticipation of what goes on in a real live baseball game. This attention to detail only adds to the realism that we strive for each and every year.

As you dig into MLB 12 The Show and get ready for MLB Opening Day on April 4th, be on the lookout for these improvements and see for yourself what TruBroadcast really means in The Show!

Sports fans –

Do the developers of MLB 11 The Show think you need the freedom to customize batting and pitching cameras as you see fit? Is giving you the ability to pitch or bat from the same perspective you see watching your favorite MLB team on TV important to us? Does MLB 11 The Show offer a Camera Editor and have all 30 MLB home broadcast views at the ready? Yes to all of the above…

MLB 11 The Show is pleased to introduce the Camera Editor. This new feature gives you the ability to customize any pitching or batting camera to your own personal specifications. You can not only view the action your own way by customizing the camera’s angle and zoom, but you can modify each pitch meter’s placement and size as well.

Love your own favorite team’s home broadcast view best? Not to worry. We’ve replicated the pitching/batting home broadcast view for all 30 MLB teams as closely as possible. If you’re playing in your home ballpark, you can use these cameras by simply choosing Cameras from the pause menu and selecting “Broadcast” for Batting View or Pitching View. You can also take your favorite team’s home broadcast view on the road and use it in any stadium by saving it as one of your custom cameras with the new Camera Editor. One last thing: you can use Camera Editor to customize the size of the pitch meter altogether!

Have fun playing MLB 11 The Show using the new home broadcast views and your own camera creations.

Remember: You get 30 FREE days of Premium MLB.TV when you reserve and purchase MLB 11 The Show for the PlayStation 3.

Welcome to The Show!

Dear sports fans,

In a continued effort to blur the lines between a video game and a televised broadcast, MLB 10: The Show is proud to introduce the brand new presentation mode: Real Time. Available with replays or without, Real Time is a new presentation mode designed to further enhance the realism our baseball simulation offers you, the baseball fan.

Hoping to have you question whether you’re playing MLB 10: The Show or watching a live baseball game on TV, we’ve captured hundreds of new animations and have done extensive work with both our AI and our cameras. From the pitcher toeing the rubber until the next batter walks up to the dish, you’ll experience continuity with the seamless animations and positional intelligence of each player on and off the field. All new camera angles and cut-timing capture the player’s new movements and further enhance the presentation mode by mimicking the camera work seen on televised MLB broadcasts. Post-play has never looked this real.

In this Real Time presentations video, we’re off to brand new Target Field where Joe Mauer and his teammates are kind enough to help demonstrate what this new mode has to offer.

In the first highlighted play, Joe crushes a solo home run to right field. Using picture-in-picture technology, we show you both the Real Time presentation footage and footage captured with a production fly camera. Once the ball clears the right field fence and the play ends, the jumbotron flashes “Joe” and the Real Time cameras cut to the dugout (out of fly cam view) as they react to Joe’s solo shot. Next, the Real Time cameras cut to Joe as he nears second base and follow him using different camera angles, as new animations blend to let him round the bases in continuous fashion. One more thing to notice would be the defensive players maneuvering into an extreme right shift in preparation for the next batter, Jim Thome.

In the second highlighted play, Jake Fox rips a sharp grounder that Justin Morneau snares and flips to Matt Guerrier, covering first, for the out. As the play ends, the camera cuts to Fox as he jogs off the field. Notice Fox use avoidance to sidestep clear of Guerrier. The following shots show Morneau getting back into position, and then a field shot of the infield. One last thing I can mention would be the infielders throwing the ball around the infield and eventually, as you’ll see in the game, back to the pitcher.

So why did we add Real Time presentations to MLB 10: The Show? What’s the point? Well our goal is simple. We want Real Time presentations to give baseball fans a new and real way to view our game.

We really hope you enjoy Real Time presentations and everything else about MLB 10: The Show.
