The Sackies Winners!

For weeks now, Sackfolk have been voting on their favorite levels to win one of the prestigious Sackies, awards that celebrate the highest level of achievement amongst players, creators and sharers on LittleBigPlanet.

The votes are now in, we’ve counted them up and we’re now ready to announce the winners…

LittleBigPlanet 2 picks up two BAFTAs

Speaking of Awards, LittleBigPlanet 2 picked up two prestigious BAFTA awards last week, for Innovation in Games, and Best Family Game. The team at Media Molecule were there to pick them up…

We’re all huge fans of Journey, thatgamecompany’s fabulous new game, and we couldn’t resist making a Journey costume for Sackboy. It’s coming next month!

Community Highlight – LittleBigAudio!

Music is one of the most popular, but least talked-about, parts of LittleBigPlanet Create. We have a great community of dedicated composers who love nothing more than to create original music using the Music Sequencer for people to use in their levels, or just for the fun of it!

The newly formed LittleBigAudio team have put together a YouTube Channel containing over 300 Songs and nearly 20 hours of original music all made in LittleBigPlanet, here’s a sample…

These musically minded folks promise to continue composing and adding their latest sounds to LittleBigAudio! Check back regularly to hear their latest releases!

LittleBigPlanet Karting Trailer!

Last but oh so definitely not least, LittleBigPlanet Karting was announced last week! For those of you unfortunate souls yet to see the trailer yet, now’s your chance! Join Sackboy as he takes to the circuit in this brand new game being released later this year for PS3!

The LittleBigPlanet franchise now has over 6 USER-GENERATED MILLION GAMES & LEVELS!!!
Something magical recently happened in the world of LittleBigPlanet – thanks to our awesome community, the LBP franchise now has more than 6 million user-generated games and levels that have been created by fans and uploaded online to the PlayStation Network! As always, we’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone contributing, whether you’re creating, sharing, or just playing. Here are a few nuggets we found over the weekend:

The 2011 Sackies – Nominations Needed!
With the Golden Globes behind us and the Oscars coming up soon, awards season now here in full force, so it’s time for our own special LBP awards, called The Sackies – and we need your help. Check out how you can help nominate the best levels out there via LBP.me – just find the level and look for the special Sackies nomination feature at the top of each level. Nominations will be closed on Feb 6th, then voting will begin and go until Feb 20th with winners scheduled to be announced the week after. So, nominate your favorite levels now!

RocketCheetah has a recent hands on report from a recent PlayStation Event. Read on for the breakdown of every playable level, including:

Puppet Circus [watch the video] was perhaps the most ‘traditional’ level I played (if that word even has any meaning in LBP anymore!). A cute, fairground-themed platformer which serves to introduce you to all of the the Vita’s controls. Tilt we’ve experienced in LBP before but what impressed me was how natural the touch interactions felt. Everything seemed instantly familiar and always like it was enhancing my experience rather than getting in the way.

Sack It To Me: Still PlayStation Move-ing

Since the launch of the LittleBigPlanet 2 Move Pack, our community has gone crazy playing, creating, and sharing with a whole new Move perspective. And with all the new LBP2 activity, we’ve been getting a lot of questions, so we figure we’d put together a quick FAQ to answer all your pressing Move Pack questions:

Q: Is there a list of everything I get with the LBP2 Move Pack?
A: Yup, head on over to LittleBigPlanet.com to learn more (or just click here. Also, here’s a preview of all the new costumes:

Q: Are there any reviews that I can read before I buy the Move Pack?
A: Here’s our favorite: “It might just be the killer app the (Move) hardware requires” – Joystiq

Q: Can I play all the new user-generated “Move” levels, even though I didn’t buy the LBP2 Move Pack?
A: Yup. Update 1.06 lets anyone who has LBP2 to play all the ‘move capable’ user-generated content online, as well as everything else (original LBP2 story mode, regular user-generated content, etc). But we have to say you’ll be missing out on all the great new story levels and extra goodies.

Q: Can me and my three friends (four total) still play LBP2 together with the all new Move controls?
A: Yes, but only three players can use the all new Move controls. The fourth player will need a standard DualShock3 controller.

Q: I have more questions…
A: Most likely, these guys have more answers!

Today’s the day! The LittleBigPlanet 2 Move Pack will be available later today on the PlayStation Store refresh. The epic downloadable pack includes tons of new gadgets and tools, giving you the power to CREATE games for your PlayStation Move motion controller, which eventually means that tons of user-generated PlayStation Move-enabled games will be available to everyone for free via PSN. But most importantly, the Move Pack contains an epic new storyline titled “Rise of the Cakeling!” See what’s in store in our new Story trailer below.

The LittleBigPlanet 2: Rise of the Cakeling Move Pack (add-on) will be available for $9.99 in the US. Note that you must have LittleBigPlanet 2 in order to play it.

What’s New

With LittleBigPlanet making its way to the PS Vita, we have lots to more features to share. Stay tuned as we highlight different features over the next few months. For now, check out this online interview with one of the members of Tarsier Studios – the team leading Sackboy’s charge onto the powerful PS Vita handheld system.
