Hello again PlayStation Assassins!
To celebrate Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this week, we’re giving fans an in-depth look at the breathtaking naval combat in Assassin’s Creed III! Submerge yourself in our latest trailer below…
Let’s get in to what you just saw in that trailer, because there are a ton of little gameplay nuggets hidden inside it. First off, check out the attention to detail on the crew and their activities on the deck of Connor’s ship, the Aquila… we really wanted to convey the buzzing hive of energy that a ship this size requires just to keep it moving, let alone enter combat. And when the weather gets rough, Connor may need to put his deft Assassin acrobatics to use, climbing around the rigging and ensuring the sails are properly maintained and operational.
PS3’s Connor and PS Vita’s Aveline make their mark on PTOM’s September cover as we delve into Assassin Creed III, the revolutionary new chapter(s) in Ubisoft’s blockbuster franchise. Executive editor Mikel Reparaz travelled to Ubisoft Montreal for a deep look into the gameplay of both the home console and portable games with exclusive insight from the developers. And can we just say we’re lovin’ the Revolutionary War setting for the games?
If sequels aren’t your thing, Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us lead off our look at 14 new PlayStation IP’s that promise to inject fresh ideas into gaming’s veins. We also sit down to chat with SCE Worldwide president Shuhei Yoshida for an update on Sony’s ace stable of first-part dev teams and all things PlayStation.
Thanks to Jeff, Nick, and Rey, the Blogcast thrived during my absence last week. But I’ve returned from the exotic lands of the East Coast bearing priceless gifts! First, I speak with Ian Dallas, the creative director of upcoming PSN knockout The Unfinished Swan, to learn what really inspired this distinctive game — and why those monochromatic ink-blot levels are only the beginning of what’s in store.

It’s finally here PlayStation Assassins! Just watch, we can talk after you’ve seen it…
Assassin’s Creed III will deliver fluid gameplay and furious combat set against the incredibly evocative backdrop of the American Revolution. Our new Assassin Connor finds himself embroiled in a bloody battle between two forces, but with allegiances that run beyond the color of a soldier’s coat…
Son of a Native American mother and British father, Connor’s motivation derives from a desire to preserve his people’s freedom at any cost. Moving practically unseen, as a truly lethal assassin should, through the roiling, bloody fields of battle, Connor will alter the course of history and become the spark that ignites a revolution.
Hey there PlayStation Assassins!
The World Premiere Gameplay Trailer of Assassin’s Creed III is finally here! We know you’ve been waiting for this since the initial announcement back in March, so go ahead and watch it right now… I’ll be right here when you’re done.
Okay, now that you’ve been properly introduced to Connor, our new Assassin, there are a couple of things in this video that I’d like to call your attention to.
Firstly, there are the basics of Connor’s character. He is a brutally effective Assassin, taking down his targets with speed and dexterity. Note how he flows across the battlefield, moving from one kill to another in a seamless, unbroken pace until finally finishing his target with vicious grace. There’s also Connor’s Native American/English heritage, which adds complexity and richness to his motivation.
Sly ’s back, and the anthropomorphic raccoon has never looked better. PTOM’s May issue cover features one of PS2’s most beloved platformer protagonists as he prepares to star in his first all-new PS3 entry. Though original developer Sucker Punch has stepped aside, our visit with Thieves in Time’s developer Sanzaru Games indicates that the fourth game in the series is in good and capable hands.
Elsewhere in the issue, the battle rages on in our Medal of Honor: Warfighter feature as we get our first look at EA’s second offensive front against rival Activision’s Call of Duty franchise. Warfighter’s focus on Tier One operatives and cinematic action sequences indicate it’s got its sights squarely set on the rumored but as-yet-unconfirmed Black Ops 2. We can’t wait to see the pyrotechnics when these two powerhouses meet on the field of battle.
Ubisoft raised more than a few eyebrows when it revealed its bold plans for Assassin’s Creed III earlier this month. In a sharp break from the Renaissance theme that has dominated the last three games, ACIII will shift its focus to the desperate, bloody days of the American Revolution in a story that spans 30 years. The change is scenery is matched by a change in character, with protagonist Connor Kenway taking center stage as an assassin caught between the escalating atrocities of the Patriots and the Redcoats. It’s a juicy premise positively bursting with potential.
With Assassin’s Creed III set to land on PS3 this October 30th, we sat down with Creative Director Alex Hutchinson to discuss the game’s ambitious premise and many, many gameplay enhancements. Read on for the choice highlights, or tune in to the entire 15-minute interview on episode 018 of PlayStation Blogcast. As always, let us know what you think in the comments!
