Beyond Belief: A Trip Through Quantic Dream’s Next Masterpiece

Posted by on Jun 12, 2012

Last week at the PlayStation’s E3 Press Conference, one of the highlights of the night was Quantic Dream’s David Cage stepping into the stage finally reveal his team’s next masterpiece. BEYOND: Two Souls for the PS3 impressed the crowd with its extremely detailed graphics and convincing performances of motion actors, including Hollywood talent Ellen Page. By now, you must have seem the debut trailer dozens of times and may have even checked David Cage himself coming to our stage live at E3, but unfortunately the game was not available on the show floor for the general audience to try. Luckily for us, we were able to witness the power of this interactive psychological action-thriller in a private session where Producer Ray Khalastchi from SCEE’s XDev Studio walked us through a 20-plus-minute demo running on a PS3 – in case we had any doubts that the game was high-tech smoke and mirrors.

Virtual E3 PlayStation Booth vs Reality + Weekly Update

Posted by on Jun 11, 2012

This past week the PlayStation Digital Platforms Community team attended E3 down in Los Angeles and hung out with PlayStation community members from around the world. This was also this third year we built out a virtual E3 booth in PlayStation Home, literally matching schematics as closely as possible to the real deal, and bringing the community the sort of experiences you would have if you were lucky enough to get entrance to the real expo.

We would like to share some pics from the real PlayStation E3 booth, so you can take a further glimpse into the excitement that is E3. Due to popular demand, we are extending the virtual E3 booth one more week. So if you didn’t get a chance to check it out, you have a little more time. But once it’s gone, it’s gone for the year.

Final Fantasy XIV PS3 Update – Interview, New Details

Posted by on Jun 11, 2012

final fantasy xiv

When it was first launched back in 2010, Final Fantasy XIV for PC was criticized by players and the media, and eventually the planned PS3 version was postponed. Since then, Square Enix decided to reshuffle the leading developers of the game, with Naoki Yoshida now acting as Director and Producer. His challenge is to helm the 2.0 version of Final Fantasy XIV, which is a re-imagination of the original release. It will mark a new beginning for the game when (update: the beta) gets launched this winter, coinciding with the release of the anticipated PS3 version.

The game was not ready to be demoed publicly at E3 this year, but we got a chance to see a brief live demo behind closed doors of the game still running on a PC. It featured lush visuals, with a richly detailed character running through a forest area with dense vegetation and impressive lighting effects passing through foliage. It was something we definitely aren’t used to see in an MMORPG.

Interview with EA SPORTS FIFA 13’s David Rutter

Posted by on Jun 11, 2012

With Euro 2012 getting underway and the latest version of the beautiful game on PlayStation 3 mesmerising crowds at E3 2012, it was the perfect time to catch up with EA SPORTS FIFA 13 producer David Rutter. Here, he explains how this year’s online offering is second to none.

Simon: How has FIFA Street impacted on FIFA 13?

David Rutter: The Precision Dribbling 2.0 – that’s the glamorous name for it – did owe something to that game, yes. We were looking at improved dribbling overall as a big holistic feature, we wanted the ability to move in 360 degrees, we wanted fidelity of distance and we also wanted face angle. That was a big thing for us, the ability to have the player’s face pointing in the right direction no matter which way they’re going.

PlayStation Around The Web: What We Read

Posted by on Jun 10, 2012

E3 is an amazing thing, but when you’re there (and working), you don’t always get to see that many games. So I’ve been enjoying catching up on the titles I missed seeing in person… and now I’m sharing the (immense) list of stories I’ve been reading with you.

From what I did get to play or see in the flesh, I was especially taken with Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Assassin’ Creed III & Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Guacamelee (played on PS Vita), PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (Big Daddy is a badass), and Jet Set Radio PS Vita. Wish I had a time to see and play more, but it seemed clear to me that the quality of games on display this year was very, very high. This will be a good year for gaming – of this I have no doubt.
