Following on from the success of the original Cubixx we’ve added more – lots more, in fact. Cubixx HD now features 50 levels of arcade action playable in both single player and seven-player co-op. All these levels are also playable in Time Attack, Score Attack and Line Attack modes, with up to seven players competing at once and featuring over 150 online leaderboards and 50 addictive Challenges. Ruthless players can engage in the cold-blooded mayhem of Deathmatch mode, again supporting up to seven players.

Cubixx HD also features a whole new cast of enemies. Aside from the returning Cubixx and Line Chasers there are the villainous Homers who will chase after you and slow you down, Asteroids that will rain death and destruction upon you and the almighty Black Hole that attracts nearby objects.

As you can see, I’m a massive fan of Cubixx HD but obviously I’m going to be a bit biased seeing as I worked on this fantastic game, so how does this little quote from Official PlayStation Magazine UK’s 8 out of 10 review for Cubixx HD sound?

“The controls are smooth, the soundtrack is brilliantly pitched, and not since we had a post-op morphine pump has anything screamed ‘just one more go’ louder. It’s adamantium-boulder tough at times, but there’s never anyone to blame for failure but yourself. And for the stubborn among us, that’s the killer.”

We’ve been receiving great reviews from all over the world. Eurogamer.net awarded the game 8 out of 10 describing it as “murderously addictive” and calling it the greatest incarnation of the area-capture game style ever created, while The Sixth Axis also gave it 8 out of 10, saying it “hovers on the cusp of absolute, delightful joy”. The Koalition awarded Cubixx HD 9 out of 10, calling it “an essential PSN purchase.”

Cubixx HD hits the PlayStation Store on September 20th in North America for $9.99, exclusively on PS3.

Cubixx has been very well received in our native EU PSN Store, and now we’re sharing the cuboid love with our friends across the Atlantic. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to check out this super-addictive retro title. Be there, or be, um… cube-shaped, I guess.

Cubixx takes inspiration from a couple of older games of the same type and tasks the player with using their laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces will reward you with larger combos, but at far greater risk.

The game features 20 levels of increasingly lunatic difficulty, we really do challenge anyone sane to try and beat Cubixx’s 20th level. Many have tried but only a brave few walked away with their pride intact (unfortunately I am not included in that number).

Cubixx is a pure fix of old-school, high score-chasing gameplay with a modern twist. Do you think you have what it takes to top the high score table? Check out the trailer above for more details on the game. Look for Cubixx to laser-cut its way onto the PSN Store on June 8th for $3.99! Check it out.

Just another quick announcement to let you all know about our exciting third PlayStation minis title for PSP and PS3, Vibes, which will release on the PlayStation Store on June 8th at the price of $5.49. Vibes is an action-packed rhythm game that includes a lucky 13 music tracks, covering everything from Classical to J-Pop, to Psychobilly, to Punk. With three levels of difficulty your finger will be well and truly wrecked. ;)

The game is squarely aimed at fans of the rhythm-based genre and has a steep learning curve, so if you think you have conquered Guitar Hero then give this a try. Starting off on the Easy difficulty allows the player to get used to the control mechanism — the difficulty then builds and builds, and will push players to the limit on the harder difficulty settings.

One feature we’re particularly proud of is the music-video inspired background sequences during gameplay. These not only look awesome, but they’re also hilarious (if I do say so myself), and feature things such as pulsating ducks, throbbing buildings and flexing sumo wrestlers. If that list isn’t 100% WIN then I don’t know what is — and don’t forget these items and more are all in the same game!

When creating Vibes, our principle aim was to create an addictive gameplay mechanism, accompanied by a fresh art style. We’ve definitely achieved both those things and — for my money — made one of the stand-out PlayStation minis titles. For more details on the game check out the trailer above (which is also available via the PlayStation Store).

For those who need reminding, Vibes is out on June 8th at $5.49. Hope you like it!

UPDATE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Stellar Attack was not released June 1st. Please stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for an updated release date.

Hey everyone! I’m pleased to announce that Laughing Jackal’s first PlayStation minis title, Stellar Attack, is to be released on the PSN Store on June 1st for the PSP and PS3. Stellar Attack is an homage to classic shoot-em-up Star Castle, and is also inspired by a range of action-puzzle games, featuring a mix of score-chasing puzzles, fast action and precision targeting.

Here’s some background to the game (featuring the best story I could think of in under five minutes!):

Deep in space, a lost starfighter is trapped by a series of evil turrets; turrets that are generating a purple energy field which is preventing the starfighter from returning home. To make things more difficult, these evil robo-turrets surround themselves with vast strings of protective coloured orbs. Using its multicoloured laser, our intrepid starfighter must blast a path through the orbs to destroy the turrets in each level — and if it can achieve a new high score on the way, then so much the better. In the future, everyone knows that the only language an evil robotic turret understands is destruction…and a good high score.

Stellar Attack’s “racking” multiplier score system means that you only build good scores by hitting orbs consistently with the right colored lasers. Breaking your chain of hits resets your multiplier and messes up your score, ruining your starfighter’s day and making evil turrets laugh at you.

If score-chasing, orb-blasting, turret-destroying, old-school puzzle action is your idea of fun (who’s isnt?) then Stellar Attack has everything you need.
