This holiday season just got better. Resistance Collection is hitting stores starting December 5th for $39.99, and it makes a great gift for any shooter fan who hasn’t had a chance to experience one of the best FPS trilogies on PS3.

Resistance started as I-8, a return to Insomniac’s roots making first-person shooters (Disruptor was our first-ever game on PSOne). It evolved from a space opera featuring lizard-like aliens into an alternate history World War I shooter, before eventually evolving into the 1950s-era game that launched alongside PS3. Over the three titles, we had an incredible experience developing the Resistance franchise for PlayStation fans.

From Resistance: Fall of Man’s 40-player multiplayer, to Resistance 2’s 8-player online co-op, to Resistance 3’s heroic survival of Joseph Capelli in a brutal world, everyone at Insomniac is incredibly proud of what we accomplished with the Resistance trilogy. For those Resistance players out there, we did want to remind you to check out the Brutality DLC Pack, which we just released this month. The DLC contains a brand new co-op Survival mode set on a dark and foggy version of the Wales map. Team up with a friend to fight off ever increasing hordes of grims, all set to seven tracks from Grammy-nominated metal band Mastodon. How many rounds can you survive?

Jesse jumps right into the giant sequel Final Fantasy XIII-2. With time travel, new fight mechanics, and new characters joining the old cast, XIII-2 expands an already epic storyline.

Tiffany Smith visits 2K Games to catch up with Jackie Estacado’s story in The Darkness II. She reports on the devotion to design demonstrated in the team’s efforts to uphold the graphic novel roots and gets her hands on an intriguing game mechanic they call…’quad wielding.’

For Resistance 3 fans that wanted a little metal in their game, Qore has the scoop on Mastodon’s soundtrack for upcoming DLC. Jesse meets with the band members as they talk about their work, their tour and their own gaming habits.

On behalf of everyone at Insomniac Games and Sony I’m very excited to announce Resistance 3’s Brutality Pack, available today for download from the PlayStation Store! This new DLC, priced at $3.99, features a vicious survival mode where you face off against an army of ravenous Grims as they try to take you and your friends down. And yup, it’s co-op – both online and offline. Plus, you get a special Mick Cutler skin AND the sledgehammer unlocked for all of the game’s modes, as well as a special Warden Static PS3 Theme.

But what has me most stoked personally is that the Brutality Pack fittingly features the music of the incomparable, Grammy nominated, Mastodon. We’re featuring seven tracks, including three songs from their just-released album The Hunter, two instrumental versions of Blood Mountain tracks and two special bonus songs from the deluxe version of The Hunter. Check out the brand new trailer that we’re releasing today to see the new gameplay mode in action set to one of Mastodon’s latest singles, “Spectrelight”.

I have to admit that I’ve been a longtime Mastodon fan. But it wasn’t until I saw them open for Queens of the Stone Age that I became a true uberfan. These guys are masters of their craft and when you see them play live its mind blowing. They bring raw intensity and incredible energy to everything they do. Their chugging roar is a perfect fit for Resistance and especially for the Brutality Pack where it’s you, a sledgehammer and some very, very hungry Chimera. We’re sincerely honored that Mastodon is now a part of the Resistance universe. Prepare to get brutal!

That’s not all though – the Survival DLC pack includes special multiplayer skins of some of the major survivors from the game: Herbert, Jonathan Glenda, Jean, and Charlie. You’ll also get a bonus Resistance 3 Survivor Concept Art Static XMB Theme.

It’s been just over a month since we launched Resistance 3, and we hope that you’ve gotten the chance to jump online and experience the game’s multiplayer and start experimenting with the wide range of loadout options, customizing them to your own play style. Over the course of development, the team at Insomniac has obviously logged countless online hours; in the process, we’ve created some tailored loadouts that we think are pretty effective. We wanted to share our favorites with you, so check out the video below as members of the Insomniac team, including Ted Price and Marcus Smith, walk you through their “go-to” multiplayer loadouts.

We are also working on another patch to continue to address issues. When we release this 1.05 patch, we will be including two brand-new maps for all players, the Creek and the Granary. If modern war doesn’t have enough shooting to satisfy your trigger finger, how about a good ol’-fashioned American crime spree? We’ve got Saints Row: The Third’s Super Genius Man-Cat Professor Genki with an exclusive tour of the violence-ridden city of Steelport. It’s the wackiest spin on the open-world crime game that we’ve seen since….well, never. Honestly, in what other game can you fire a weapon that shoots a mind-controlling octopus that you can detonate for wide-scale destruction? Or call in an airstrike to take out rival gang members? There’s even a controller button dedicated to delivering nutshots! It’s outrageous—in that special, tasteless way we so adore.

Great news: This Thursday, September 22nd the eagerly-awaited Granzella “Southern Island Hideaway” game space will be released in PlayStation Home! This tropical locale includes a variety of free games – such as a jet ski racing game and the Ocean Floor Treasure Hunt. Of course, these games come with a wide range of rewards (additional Granzella clothing and furniture items will also be available for purchase), so all you reward hunters out there take note. We’ve snagged a trailer from Granzella to whet your appetite – check it out!

Heads up: Lockwood will be releasing their Showcase public space this week! Visit “Caramel” in the Central Plaza this week to receive a Lockwood Emote reward, available for a limited time only. Afterwards, head over to the Showcase Lobby and pick up five limited-time rewards!

The PlayStation Home Mall receives an update this week with new companions (including a robot sidekick and pet dragon), clothes (new Home hoodies), a ton of new hairstyles for the guys and the girls, and some seriously psychedelic furniture!

Head to the PlayStation Home Community Theater this Thursday to receive a special reward to help commemorate the end of Summer (we think it will pair nicely with your Granzella rewards) and watch as HomeCast Rewind looks at the recently- released Resistance 3 space (providing a few tips and tricks to help you get all the rewards) and the luxurious Tycoon Penthouse personal space. Next up, SOCAST serves up some “vintage” SOCOM action.

Earlier this year, you may remember that we ran a Get in the Game contest for Resistance 3. In fact, we had winners from both the US and UK fly out to San Diego in late March to get scanned for the game, and also come to the Insomniac Community Day at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Our two winners had great entries in the contest, and we were really excited to have them out to California and put them in Resistance 3. Now that the game is almost here, we wanted to give you a glimpse at the head-scanning process, and show you how they look as their characters in the final game. Take a look.

We think the head scans turned out pretty well. You might be wondering where all of the other heads in the game came from. Many Insomniacs took a bus ride from Los Angeles down to San Diego to get their headscans in. We did some mixing and blending of the heads (not as gross as it sounds) so you may not recognize us specifically, but some of our features are certainly in the game!

This Thursday, September 8th will see a new Resistance 3 space invade Home, bringing its own public space complete with mini-games, rewards and more. What better way to celebrate the launch of Insomniac’s well-reviewed shooter than to suit up, win some rewards, and deck out your personal space with the spoils of war?

Home is also updating several core spaces, including Central Plaza (check it for a heavy surprise), and arcade cabinets for the Theater.

Magnus returns with a very interesting mixed bag of goodies ranging from a Monster Lizard Outfit to some cute Kitsune ears to the new Sweet Treats furniture bundle. Check out these sweet deals!

In Lockwood news, a new batch of Medusa hairstyles will hit the shelves of the Sodium store this week and a slew of new Sodium 2 items will be released, including racer upgrades of a most patriotic nature. Check ‘em out!

The PlayStation Home Mall is updated this week with new D.O.G. companions from LOOT, then meet Dusty, the new addition to Mass Media’s line of Brimstone Dancers. Head to the Mall this Thursday and add these items to your collection!

Starting soon, new episodes of both Ugly Americans and Deadliest Warrior episodes will arrive in the Theater. To be updated Tuesdays and Thursdays, several episodes of each will be there for your enjoyment. Bring your popcorn and some friends!

The PlayStation Home Community Theater receives an update this Thursday. Tune in this week and watch as HomeCast Rewind gives us the lowdown on all that’s up and new. Next up, Gamer Indepth interviews special guests, the Assassin’s Guild, a rather large clan based in the Home community who love everything Assassin’s Creed. While you are there, you’ll notice that Scribble Shooter arcade cabinets have been placed throughout the Theater, so step on up and give this critically-acclaimed PlayStation Home-exclusive a play!
