If you’re like me and your closets are overflowing with all the awesome new virtual items we release each and every week in PlayStation Home, then this Thursday’s content update is truly a cause for celebration. Not only are we dropping a bunch of new virtual items inspired by some of your favorite PS3 and PSP games, but we’re putting hundreds of items on sale in our brand new Exclusives store at a mere fraction of their original price. We will be continuing to air full episodes of the PlayStation Network exclusive reality series, The Tester, in the PlayStation Home Theater this week, with Episode 2 going live tomorrow, February 25th. Come out and watch as a group of hardcore gamers all compete for their dream job as a member of the SCEA QA team and pick up a free commemorative item from the Theater (additional The Tester items are also available for sale, like this goat chair, shown below as proof that we are slowly, but surely, going off the deep end).

SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 features a comprehensive single-player campaign with nine campaign missions and a number of new gameplay features. The single-player campaign is supported by a brand new cooperative mode. For the first time in series history, SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 lets you call your friends to duty with a new 4-player co-op mode available in both ad-hoc and infrastructure. With all campaign missions accessible, players can choose which missions to attempt and tackle with tactical teamwork and firepower.

And of course, SOCOM wouldn’t be SOCOM without a robust competitive multiplayer component. Continuing the franchise’s tradition of unparalleled multiplayer gaming, SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 supports up to 16 players in both ad-hoc and infrastructure modes. Players will be immersed in five classic and objective based game modes across eight diverse custom maps based on the single-player campaign. A testament to our mission to expand your favorite PS3 games by offering unique supplementary content in PlayStation Home, the Warhawk personal space delivers a dedicated environment that hosts not only the aforementioned Sand Table but also a full-on Warhawk-themed multiplayer mini-game, all while offering the perfect launch point for your next mission. It isn’t easy playing matchmaker, which is why we here on the PlayStation Home team don’t envy our friend Jerry. See, Jerry currently holds the position of Associate Cherub at Global Holiday Industries, Cupid Division…and he isn’t exactly what you would call an overachiever when it comes to his occupation. Jerry is in an especially tight situation given that the top brass at GHI has been looking to cut back on its workforce due to the poor state of the global economy. To determine who stays and who goes, upper management has put all employees under review, which means Jerry could lose his gig at any time. That’s why we’re calling on you, the PlayStation Home community, to play matchmaker this Valentine’s Day and help our buddy Jerry out. First, find the letters written to Jerry from lonely hearts all across PlayStation Home (these will be posted in the PlayStation Home Mall). Then, recruit a partner to help match the pairs described in the letters, adorning your avatar with virtual items from your inventory so that you closely resemble the matches these lovelorn people are so desperately searching for. Finally, snap a picture of the two of you in the Photo Booth (coming this Thursday to the PlayStation Home Mall), and you’ll not only save Jerry’s job but you and your partner will earn honorary Cupid status yourselves (in the form of some super exclusive rewards). In further celebration of the impending holiday, we’re inviting you all out to the main SingStar Room to partake in some uniquely PlayStation Home festivities. We’ll be rolling out a limited time only mini-game in the re-skinned SingStar space, (in) appropriately titled Stupid Cupid. Pick a partner, hit the animated dance floor, and try to sync up your moves so as to unlock a special Valentine’s Day-themed animated virtual item. We’re not allowed to show you too much this early, but we did manage to sneak a quick shot of the special SingStar V-Day room. Check it out!

As mentioned before, we’ll be giving out free SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo 3 shirts to all community members that come out to the PlayStation Home Theater to view the trailer for SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo 3 trailer, available Feb 16th for your PSP. In fact, we’ll be giving 6 SOCOM shirts away in the Theater over the next two weeks (3 male/ 3 female), with batch #1 being available from February 12th – 15th, batch #2 being available from February 16th – 18th, and batch #3 being available from February 19th – 23rd. So be sure to visit the PlayStation Home Theater often in the coming weeks and watch the SOCOM footage. It’s the only way you can collect them all, and once these items are gone they are gone forever.

Special Mardi Gras virtual items will be available this week in the PlayStation Home Mall, so all of you party animals can celebrate this world-famous festival of excess properly. I’m betting that Listen@Home will be giving Bourbon St. a run for its money this weekend, so I fully expect each and every one of you to come out. Peep these pics for a taste of what is soon to be unleashed in terms of Mardi Gras-appropriate threads.

You’ll see some glowing spheres floating in Central Plaza come Thursday, February 11th. Approach these spheres, and then follow the instructions you receive to embark on a quest the likes of which is completely unique to the world of PlayStation Home. Who knows where the clues will lead you, but one thing is for sure: Believe that anything you can imagine, you can make real.

Compete in 16-player competitive multiplayer across eight custom maps and through seven new game modes, each with different objectives. A brand new ‘Leader Mode’ lets players designate a squad leader and spawn beside them to help progress to the objective points. Additionally, a new ‘Tug-of-War’ mode, allows players to drain points from their enemies to collect tickets.

Play locally in Ad Hoc mode, or with friends from around the world in infrastructure mode. When played in infrastructure mode, competitive multiplayer supports a number of expanded online community features including tournaments, clan challenges and ladders, voice chat and character customization.

We want to give you an update on SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3‘s release date. It will now be available on January 12, 2010. The PSP title’s development is on schedule and we are extremely pleased with all aspects of the title. It’s looking and playing great…some high value visual assets (screens and video) have only recently been made available to global marketing and we have decided to move the release and allow time to get the word out to everyone.

New Special Forces

Kommando Speizialkrafte (KSK): Play as the deadly KSK. Formed at the end of the Cold War, the KSK operates under the Special Operations Division. KSK operators go through an intense training program, taking up to three years to complete over 20 counter-terrorism specialist courses.

Special Air Service (SAS): Compete as the elite British SAS. Often considered the template by which other Special Forces are organized, the SAS has its origin in the North African Theatre of World War II. The motto of the SAS is “Who Dare Wins,” a solid description of their skill and mindset.

New Weapons

F2000: The German KSK are outfitted with the powerful F2000 assault rifle. The F2000 offers the most popular features of the modern assault rifle including a compact bullpup layout, completely ambidextrous handling and a modular design with plenty of options and add-ons which allow the rifle to be tailored for any mission or tactical situation.

AS-50: The British SAS come armed with the deadly accurate AS-50 BMG sniper/anti-material rifle. The AS-50 .50 BMG sniper/anti-material rifle enables operators to engage targets from long range with high accuracy. Lightweight and transportable, the AS-50 can be disassembled in less than three minutes and serviced without tools.
