I’m Kirsten, Producer on The Walking Dead game series, and as you may have heard during PlayStation’s E3 press conference, we’re excited to confirm that a brand new episode of The Walking Dead game series is headed to PlayStation Vita!
With the June 14th release of The Last of Us rapidly approaching, we’re excited to announce that the first official television spot for the game will air on the season finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead this Sunday, March 31st at 9:00pm Pacific Time and Eastern Time.
When we became aware of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct opportunity with Activision and AMC, we leapt on it. We devised a first-person survival-horror strategy approach and pitched it. Our game was planned as a labor of love: an endeavor to create a relatively intimate The Walking Dead game experience for fans like us… as well as players new to the series who were looking for a different type of zombie game. Our goal was to create an authentic and compelling experience worthy of the name.
Be warned, there are spoilers for seasons 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead TV show in this post, so if you haven’t watched them, steer clear!
When we first decided that The Walking Dead videogame would be built around a single-player action-adventure prequel to AMC’s insanely popular series, there’s only one character that checked every “must have” slot. We needed somebody who was rugged and capable of surviving alone in the ruins of civilization, but also sympathetic to the needs of others in a world where it only makes sense to help yourself. We needed a protagonist who is tough enough to take on a swarm of raging walkers, but smart enough to know that there are probably safer alternatives. Finally, we wanted a fan-favorite character who you can’t wait to learn more about.
It’s all been leading up to this! Tomorrow, Telltale Games releases what they’ve dubbed the “season finale” of The Walking Dead, which I suppose bodes well for the possibility of future installments. For me, Telltale’s series represents the best of the adventure genre, with likeable characters, grim scenarios, and a player-guided narrative. I’ve made no secret that The Walking Dead has quickly become one of my favorite gaming experiences of the year, and I’m dying to see how Lee Everett’s final chapter plays out in this companion piece to Robert Kirkman’s much-loved graphic novel series.
(Spoiler) Sad to say that Kenny won’t be joining me on the final journey, though. What about you? Who are you taking with you?
This week, the Music Unlimited service features new releases from Brandy and Jason Aldean as well as Ben Harper, Trey Anastasio, and Civil Twilight. Why, hello again The Walking Dead. We seem to see you top these charts every time one of your episodes releases — in this case Episode 3: Long Road Ahead.
Maybe it’s your emphasis on great characters and story telling? Or maybe it’s the crazy outcomes of your in-game choices and how they affect later episodes. Either way, congratulations once again on Episode 3: Long Road Ahead and its dominance of the charts in September! Other respectable debuts include Jet Set Radio, Borderlands 2, and Tokyo Jungle.
PS Vita had a great September as well, with amazing games like LittleBigPlanet PS Vita and Madden 13 hitting hard, and August’s Sound Shapes rounding out the top three.
Check out the full results below and let us know what your predictions for the charts are for October!
Congratulations. You’ve made it. You’ve survived. This far.
If you’re reading this blog, that means you’ve probably already played the first three installments of Telltale Games’ episodic video game adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s never-ending zombie epic The Walking Dead. And you’ve been put through an emotional meat grinder unparalleled in interactive storytelling. You’ve had to deal not just with the dead rising up, but with the living brought low as the scattered and desperate survivors of the zombie apocalypse have struggled to hold onto their humanity under impossible pressure. You’ve seen murder, cannibalism, fear, paranoia, insanity, betrayal, and even the tragic death of an innocent child. And all I can say to you after all that is, I’m sorry. Because it’s about to get worse. Much worse.
