With the launch of God of War Collection only a week away (Nov. 17th!), we thought we would give you a leg up on earning one of the more difficult trophies in the game, ‘15 Min Fight Scene.’ To earn this gold trophy, you have to battle your way to the Loom Chamber in God of War II in under 10 minutes. We got Stephen Peterson, Lead QA Tester on God of War II and a Camera Designer on God of War III, to do a speed run while giving out as many tips as he can. After playing the game a hundred or so times as a tester, he makes it look easy.

Still wondering when you’ll be able to get your hands on the God of War Collection? Well, wait no more. The God of War Collection has gone gold! Fans can look forward to playing God of War and God of War II in stunning HD just a couple of weeks from now as the God of War Collection will officially be shipping to a retail store near you on NOVEMBER 17! Oh wait…there’s more…we’re also here to unveil all of the trophy goodies you have been waiting for!

<p class="center"

To give you the low-down on how the trophies were picked, here is some insight from God of War III Design Director, Todd Papy…

Other than all the visual improvements that we added to the God of War Collection, the most exciting part for me was the opportunity to go back and add in full trophy support for both games. Not only will the trophies hopefully be an enjoyable way to check your progress through the game, but they will also give the hard-core God of War fans some serious additional bragging rights. And on a more personal level, the trophies were a really great opportunity for us to share some of our stories and inside jokes from God of War and God of War II.

One of the trophies that I was really happy to finally be able get out there was “Speed of Jason McDonald.” At the end of making God of War, the combat designers were doing speed runs of the game, and soon enough, friendly wagers started springing up around the office to see who could post the best time. Jason McDonald, currently a Sr. Combat Designer on God of War III, blew them all away. He still has, a couple God of War games later, the two dollars in winnings tapped proudly to his computer monitor.

Something very similar happened when we started testing the God of War II trophy “15 Min Fight Scene.” The fight outside the Loom Chamber is one of the more polarizing moments in the game. A lot of people really enjoyed the long marathon battle, while other’s thought it was maybe too tough of a challenge. This fun vs. frustration became even clearer when the office stopped working on God of War III one afternoon to get together and watch as team member after team member tried to get through the fight in record time. Judging by the cheering that occurred when the aforementioned Jason McDonald was knocked out of the lead spot, I would say fun won the day.

Another challenging spot that we wanted to highlight with the “You Got the Touch!” trophy was the Spiked Column in Hades from God of War. After playtesting repeatedly, David Jaffe asked me to tone down the difficulty and make it easier for the final shipped game. Ironically, even after all that, it wound up being one of the most talked about sections, and not always for the best reasons. I think one of the problems is that a lot of people try to blast their way through and get it over with as fast as possible. That’s a sure fire way to get Kratos sliced up. The trick was always taking your time to think about what your next move was going to be. Throw in a couple deep breaths, and I think a lot of people will be able to make it through without taking damage and earn the trophy.

In the end, all of us hope that you have as much fun earning the trophies as we did designing them.

Hi everyone – Josh Miller here. I recently launched Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, but today I’m here to talk about a quirky little game called The Last Guy. I’m happy to announce that tomorrow the game will receive a free update that adds Trophies to the game. I’m excited since it gives me a reason to play through the game again.

If you haven’t heard of The Last Guy, the game came out last summer, preceded by an “interesting”developer diary video. It’s a classic and addictive “line” game with simple controls that uses satellite maps of real cities around the world, including San Francisco, Tokyo, and Sydney, as its levels. You play a hero who rescues people hiding out in buildings and leads them to the safety zone for evacuation while avoiding zombie monsters that roam the streets. The bigger the line, the bigger the bonus. But bigger lines also make it harder to avoid monsters, who make people scatter when they get close.

You can use thermo vision to see where people are hiding, and pick up power-ups scattered throughout the levels to stop time, fill up your energy meter and more. The game is available now for $9.99 on the PS Store, and there’s even a demo if you want to try it out before you buy it.

Here’s a trailer to get an idea of what the game is about and what the visuals look like.

There will be 15 Trophies in all to reward you for getting good ratings on stages, rescuing VIPs, getting lots of fireworks and more. The Trophies are not retro-active, meaning they won’t be unlocked automatically when the update is installed. You’ll need to play the game again to unlock them.

I also am pleased to announce an add-on coming for The Last Guy next month. It will add 3 bonus stages to the game, which are unlocked by fulfilling certain conditions in the main game. The add-on also includes 8 additional Trophies to help you rank up your Trophy level.

Enjoy!

You’ll see some familiar faces from Darkstalkers (Capcom); Disgaea (Nippon Ichi Software); Ar tonelico (Bandai Namco); Atelier Marie and Mana Khemia 2 (Gust); and Spectral Souls (Idea Factory). And all the characters are playable. Isn’t that cool?

You can also collect costumes for all the different characters, and their stats and abilities will change depending on which costume they are wearing. And when you change costumes on female characters, their appearance will also change! It’s really cute! If you are into these characters, Cross Edge is a must-have!

I would also like to talk a bit about the battle system. Cross Edge has a unique hybrid battle system that combines a classic RPG setup with an intuitive grid-based SRPG style. In battle, a square grid will appear beneath the units, and players can move their characters around during their combat phase. Some units are better at close combat and others at ranged combat, so players must strategically move their units to battle enemies. Enemy units will also move around the grid in order to defeat you, so you will have to be alert at all times to fight effectively.

So, many RPG fans have been looking forward to Cross Edge, and I hope you all pick up a copy and start playing today :-) As with many other PS3 games, Cross Edge comes with a slew of awesome trophies. So today, I would like to give you a sneak peek at the requirements to acquire the Bronze, Silver, and Gold trophies!

First of all, there are a total of 23 trophies; 5 of them are Bronze, 11 of them are Silver, and 7 of them are Gold. After acquiring them all, you will of course receive the Platinum trophy. So then, I suppose there are actually 24 trophies!

Here is the list of trophies, along with their descriptions! Some of the trophy titles are pretty funny, so I hope you’ll get a laugh, chuckle, or even giggle out of them :-)

Bronze – The Entitled: Unlock any trophy.
Bronze – The Bully: Defeat 100 enemy units.
Bronze – The Newbie: Survive 35 battles.
Bronze – The Badass: Exceed 10,000 points of total damage.
Bronze – The Juggler: Exceed a 50-hit combo!
Silver – The Skywalker: Reach 300 AGI. (Equipment’s effect doesn’t count.)
Silver – The Meat Shield: Reach 300 VIT. (Equipment’s effect doesn’t count.)
Silver – The Juicer: Reach 300 STR. (Equipment’s effect doesn’t count.)
Silver – The Know-It-All: Reach 300 INT. (Equipment’s effect doesn’t count.)
Silver – The Gambler: Reach 300 LCK. (Equipment’s effect doesn’t count.)
Silver – The Stalker: Unlock all character profiles. (Use the % on the upper-right screen)
Silver – The Patron: Unlock all gallery art. (Use the % on the upper-right screen)
Silver – The God of Death: Defeat 3,000 enemy units.
Silver – The Highlander: Survive 900 battles.
Silver – The World Champ: Exceed 1,000,000 points of total damage!
Silver – The Aggressor: Exceed a 400-hit combo.
Gold – The Gun Runner: Collect every type of weapon.
Gold – The Battle Ready: Collect every type of armor.
Gold – The Fashionista: Collect every type of accessory.
Gold – The Packrat: Collect every type of item.
Gold – The Grave Robber: Find 150 hidden items using Search.
Gold – The Dood: Earn the true ending. (Unlocked after the true ending.)
Gold – The Hikikomori: Earn every single title. (Unlocked when all the title are given at the guild. Each title is counted when unlocked, so if you don’t do this task from the beginning, you may not reach the point.)

Let me explain what “Hikikomori” means. In Japan, they call a person who stays at home all the time and never really interacts with other human beings “Hikikomori”. I guess a literal translation would be “a being confined” and “social withdrawal”. You’ll definitely have to stay home for days in order to earn all the in-game titles. So, you’ll certainly earn the title of Hikikomori :-) Thanks in advance for playing Cross Edge that much! Hehe.

Anyway, you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you to earn that Platinum trophy! Good luck!

Before I let you all go, I would also like to share some information about the upcoming downloadable content for Cross Edge. We’re currently working on the DLC, and there will be new costumes for the girls, powerful items, extra dungeons, and lots more! We’ll let you know when it will be available as the DLC release date approaches.

Thank you again for your support! Have a good day! And I hope you all enjoy Cross Edge!

PS. Please visit the Official Cross Edge website for the gameplay info, character bios, and more!

Kindest regards,

Hi all, I’m Chris Heidorn, Software Engineer at Sucker Punch Productions. With inFAMOUS shipping in less than a month, you guys are probably starting to wonder about what types of trophies and stunts (yes, there will be stunts) will be in the game. Well, I’m here today to give you a brief inFAMOUS trophy and stunt lowdown.

So, we know you all love stunts and so do we at Sucker Punch. The testing team here had the super fun job of coming up with some cool ways Cole could take down and kill enemies by doing a combination or sequence of events. To do this, the team relied upon their experiences playing the game everyday and noting where there were enemy setups and likely systemic behavior in the story missions and mini-missions that allowed them to pull off these cool stunts.

They created a list of 40 or more such combos, as we called them. We also enlisted the Sony test team for their list. Between the two teams we had a candidate list that totaled more than 80 stunts. To choose the best stunts for inFAMOUS, I created what I called an experience monitor. The experience monitor basically “listened” for raw attack events, such as an electromagnetic blast attack, and would record these events in a ring buffer. As enemies got damaged, the details of their damage would be associated with the raw attack event. In the end, we ended up with over 20 pretty cool stunts that we can’t wait for you guys to experience.

One of my favorite stunts is the environment kill. This involves making clever use of the environment to take down or kill enemies. If there’s a propane tank or a vehicle near some enemies, shoot at them until they blow up. If the blast takes down the enemy, you score this stunt. What’s fun about this is luring the enemies near the exploding device and using it to your advantage. What fun! You would think the enemies would catch on to this, but they just keep coming back for more! One of the harder stunts to pull off is the melee finisher. With this one, you must take down or kill at least 3 enemies in a row with Cole’s melee attack. You must do this quickly, since you only have ½ second between each kill in order for it to count.

So, for trophies, we have a number of different categories which are:

Game, story and mini-mission completion

Collect all dead drops and shards

Traversal

Stunts

Power-Based

Karmic decisions

The “Get Off My Cloud” trophy is probably one of the easiest trophies to unlock. The idea here is to use one of Cole’s powers to knock an enemy off a high location, such as a rooftop, and deal him damage that kills him when he hits the ground. Perform 100 of these and you unlock the trophy. Another fun trophy is the “Red Baron.” Blast enemies into the air and kill or take them down while they’re in-air. Do 100 of these and you’ve unlocked this trophy.

Anyway, we’ll leave the rest for you to uncover on your journey with Cole through Empire City. Enjoy and stay tuned for more inFAMOUS news!

Hello once again, and welcome to the Magic Ball blog!

Magic Ball (available today, January 15 for $9.99 on the PS Store) is another addictive game from Creat Studios and TikGames and it’s filled with fast action, great humor and giggle-inducing fun.

While the game doesn’t have an overall storyline like Cuboid, we have created comedic scenes for each level – so in a way, each level has its own little story! Each of the scenes is divided between two visual themes – Pirates and Knights – and each theme has its own mini-story scenes.

Magic Ball boasts a vast number of trophies that players can try and achieve – each of the trophies requires the player to overcome a specific challenge. It was a blast trying to come up with the trophies, and we tried to keep a lot of them consistent with the humorous themes of Magic Ball. For example, we have the “25 in a row” trophy where you need to complete 25 levels in a row and several “Goodbye Cruel World” trophies where the player needs to pick up 5 skulls while completing the level.

One of the strategic elements of Magic Ball is the random Power-Ups that fall from pieces of the level that are broken up by the Magic Ball. The Power-Ups are completely random, and the challenge is trying to get your paddle over to where they are falling, while also keeping the Magic ball in play!

But be careful – not all Power-Ups are beneficial! As you complete levels, you will unlock new Power-Ups, so keep an eye out for them! Here’s a hint – try to get the ball through gaps in the objects so that the ball will bounce between the objects. This will break them up quicker, which makes less work for you! ;)

Magic Ball for the PSN is a unique twist on the “ball-breaker” type of game. We have true 3D environments and superior physics and graphics, and every object in the playing field is completely destructible. All of these elements combined really push Magic Ball to the next level.

We’re also excited about the look and feel of our mini-scenes. We think they are really fun – and Magic Ball also has multiplayer with VOIP support! So what could be more fun than smashing up some objects and scoring points and Power-Ups with your friends!?

We all loved the original Magic Ball and were inspired to make our own version with our own unique twists, including new takes on some of the classic levels and adding some bonus ones as well! During the development of the game, we were able to bring in some focus groups that allowed us to make tweaks and adjustments that really helped to round out the fun-factor for each of the levels.

One of the areas that really got an overhaul during testing was the difficulty level of the game – apparently it was too easy! Man, you PSN players are really hardcore!

We are quite proud of our levels, and our lead designer and lead artist worked on them constantly during the development cycle. We had originally planned for a more casual game, but testing proved that players wanted more action. So we rebalanced and are really happy with the outcome.

Two of the other areas that were reworked completely were the SFX (special effects) and VFX (visual effects) of Magic Ball. The power of the PS3 allowed us to do many things that we had originally thought we might have a hard time with, but special effects such as waving grass and flowers are easily handled by the PS3 and the real-time physics with several hundred – even thousands! – of objects were easily managed. Once we saw how much more we were able to do graphically, we could then re-budget our development time and concentrate on gameplay.

We had a blast developing and playing Magic Ball, and we hope you will too. Let us know what you think!

We have kept quiet for a while, but we bring you good news today. The world of echochrome expands again!

Inspired by the artistic works of M.C. Escher, echochrome with its’ minimalist black and white graphics plays with your imagination. Echochrome plays with your mind. Its’ deceiving artwork delivers mind-bending puzzle solving. It also includes a custom level editor allowing the players to make and trade their own stages amongst friends, or even submit to the developer.

Now that we’ve refreshed your memory on echochrome, it’s time to deliver the good news! We know many of you have been asking for Trophy support. Well… echochrome will receive an update patch effective today.

Yes, that’s right.

The update patch for echochrome includes the long awaited trophy support. YAY! This is a great reason for many of you who already have echochrome to go back and play, and for those of you who haven’t picked it up yet? Now is the time!

Players are rewarded trophies for clearing a number of stages, or even for the total number of footsteps or falls! It’s a great time and reason to experience the world of echochrome and give your mind a little pinch. Can you collect all of the trophies? Bragging rights!

In addition to the trophy support, remember how we rolled out the user-generated stages 10 at a time? From this update forward, we are making a total of 1,000 user-generated stages available for gameplay.

Yes, that’s right. ONE THOUSAND STAGES!!!

If you think you can create a level that’s better, we’d love to see it! Don’t hesitate to upload!

Now, to play these 1000 user-created levels, just go to “Freeform” and start playing, and the levels will come up at random as you play. I’m sure you will enjoy a great range of creativity collected from various players and locations worldwide.

Last but not least, we have now enabled the screenshot function as well. Again, a useful tool to enhance your bragging rights!

As a token of appreciation, we have put a video together, introducing all of the 1,000 stages that will be made available in this update. I’m sure you will love it!

For some closing words, I have yet again, a message for you from Suzuki-san, the Producer of this title at JAPAN Studios.

Hello beloved fans of echochrome.

The development team and I are very happy with all of the positive feedback we are receiving from various parts of the world. Until recently, our way of collecting your views or thoughts was based on websites, questionnaires or blog posts such as this one (which is fine!). However the stage upload feature in echochrome delivers your passion to us in a unique way.

The total count for stage uploads worldwide have now exceeded 3,700 (submitted from 33 different countries and 1664 unique users). We have done the honors of selecting a total of 1,000 user generated stages to be made available with this update patch, to everyone else. The stages are the crystals of our users’ creativity and variety, often surprising us and sometimes even an eye-opener from a development point of view.

For the reasons mentioned above, we are on another mission to create a second update patch to further enhance the echochrome experience. We have enjoyed the activities surrounding the user-generated content, and would love to see more.

The Japanese title for echochrome is “Mugen Kairou”, translation? “Infinite Corridor”. As the name suggests, your combined creativity is infinite, and it helps fuel our motives for development. We are enjoying this relationship with our users, and would like to take this as far as we possibly can.

Thank you.

Hey, did you hear (or see, rather) that? Yes, there is another update coming!!! Can’t tell you when at this point, but there are some more interesting features coming your way! In the meantime, we hope you will enjoy the added features to echochrome. I’m sure this will keep you busy for a while!

For those of you who have not yet played the game, it’s available for $9.99 on the PlayStation Network Store. We also have a demo for you, if you are not sure. You’ve got nothing to lose!

For $9.99, it’s a bargain if you ask me! It’s great for kids and grown-ups too!

Thanks for reading!
