Welcome, You’ve Been Waiting

It’s with enthusiasm, eagerness and, honestly, a little bit of relief that we lift the cover on our first official Sony Computer Entertainment America company blog – welcome and sorry for the wait.

PlayStation.Blog is a bit of work in progress, we see it as a place where we can share with you our company’s collective insights, opinions and perspectives on all things related to SCEA, PlayStation and the industry we play in.

At the moment, we’re thinking about sharing all sorts of things here, ranging from product news and title announcements to developer updates and industry opinion posts – all of which will come straight from the people here inside SCEA who are working, thinking and playing with this stuff every day. Look to the categories on the sidebar for some initial thoughts we have on future post themes.

Now, what we’ve learned, perhaps the hard way, is that a blog like this is really about you and the things you want to hear, share and discuss with us. With that in mind, you’ll notice that comments are enabled – and encouraged – so tell us what you want to see here and we’ll do our best to make it happen. And yes, like most blogs, we have a comment policy, please just keep this in mind when you’re leaving a comment.

We imagine it may take us a short while to find our pace with this, but bear with us as we get underway and we promise we’ll quickly make this blog a valuable stop in your daily info hunt for PlayStation news.

Like we’ve said, we’re excited to finally have a platform for conversation and connection. Much more is in the works too, so we hope you’ll consider sticking around, kicking the tires of our shiny new blog and sharing what you think.

Enjoy!

  • Congratulations on the new blog.

Like the clean design, and look forward to plenty of interesting news.

  • Great! It is wonderful to see this blog!
I have hope fot the PS3 and PSP,so I wanna read the news about them here first. And ,now that you have this blog set up,I hope it update regularly.
By the way,I am a staff from Chinese enterprise.

  • Good stuff but the info needs to flow and the comments need to be listened to.

In terms of the current comments I agree the console needs more games but I also bought a 360 at launch and for the first year titles were a bit sparce. The same can be said for my Wii, only 3 or 4 decent titles on that at the moment.

The PS3 is getting a rough ride because the 360 is already 18 months into its development and has a catalog of great games and online content. Its unfair to judge the PS3 now. It takes at least a year!

  • Hey thanks Sony :D Big Fan of all things Sony and PS. Loving the ps3… The Blog is great as well. Just saying G’day from Australia (So can we get a PAL Blog :P). Keep up the good work. Thanx again :D

  • Whoa loads of comments, it took like an hour to read them all =D

Gratz for the new blog and good luck in the future!

There were talk about the eu ps store on some guys and i might say too that its lacking content, thats why i have us and jpn account. sry sony guys, but i love extra content, demos and little games. maybe the lack of eu ps store content is cause of the dubbing =P. More psn games on the ps store! everyone loves classics.

The other thing that many said was about the lack of games and its true, but i know that you guys are fixing it. The games that are coming in fall look amazing and good, i will be so poor when its christmas xD.

Dont lose any exclusives anymore, try to make more of them! Im pretty sure that in fall ps3 will sell very good so that ps3 wont lose more exclusives. the making of games is nowadays expensive and when the ps3 hasnt sold as much as the xbox360 which was released year earlier, so ps3 is losing exclusives to xbox360. But after fall i think that ps3 will have enought units sold that it wont lose exclusives so easily.

There was talk about the sixaxis rumble which i dont like at all, but it seems to be very important to some ppl to have the rumble.

on the updates im just waiting for the rumoured 2.00 update which has the in game xmb.

It has been a slow start but in fall things will be changing, right sony!

  • “Dont lose any exclusives anymore, try to make more of them! Im pretty sure that in fall ps3 will sell very good so that ps3 wont lose more exclusives” – Kaze88

Just like Kaze said, regardless of how many consoles you’ve sold now (and regardless if youre “satisfied” by the number) you have to…no.. MUST get exclusives. Persuade giants like Capcom and such to do it even with the limited fanbase, cause they should know that their games sell consoles.

  • Good luck (and go make us God of War III)

  • That is great guys. I hope you will update it frequently.

  • Yes!!! Cheers Sony! I love you guys! Another great innovative idea from you guys! Keep it up!

  • When is the rumble coming back?

There are only 2 games on ANY system that have truly benefited from rumble…MGS and GT. These games will lose something without it.

    Forget about other games though…

  • Better late than never. Communication with your fanbase has never been Sony’s strongest point…..lets hope this is the beginning of a change to that.

  • It’s all very well saying this blog will be used by the whole Playstation division, but the blog was doubtless a brainwave of PR and will be controlled by PR. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the vast majority of posts originate from PR and Marketting.

Sony have an uphill struggle to regain confidence.

PS: how about an SCEE blog? Will it basically be posts from the American blog reposted 3 months later with some hasty translations into other Eruopean languages?

A cynical comment? Maybe, but one I’m sure alot of other European gamers can relate to. You have to power to fix this.

  • Thumbs Up from Germany : )

“PS: how about an SCEE blog?”

  • Im a Beta tester for Home and Warhawk and would like to see a blog put out for those two Betas. I know I cant talk about it here so maybe it should be tied to our Underground logins.

  • If this is blog is going to be any good they’re going to have to be responding and that’s what I don’t think they’ll do, which will become another Sony PR blunder.

  • sony if u were to add final fantasy and bomberman world with network features to the store that would be mint and people complain about there been no in game music and lack of games what u could do is add classic games to keep us gamers happy until more ps3 titles are released. and this is a must u have to give us demos of games before the full version comes out so we know if we want to buy it or not

  • Good Luck from the http://www.pspfreak.de team

  • cheers from italy and good luck!

  • Glad to see you’re blogging. Now, any chance you can stop forcing proprietary formats like UMD’s, Memory Sticks, MD, and Betamax on us? Or new, unnecessarily expensive and largely unwanted formats like SACD, Blu/Ray, and 1080p?

Give us an unrestricted low cost UMD writer and the PSP will take off like wildfire, like it should have in the first place.

  • Congratulations, Sony!

I’m a scientist studying online communities and socio-technical networks (please don’t use the term “Web 2.0”!). So I hope Sony doesn’t mind me lurking here and analyzing the postings.

  • Hi, I’m from South Africa & most playstation fanboys have moved on to X360.
I’m constantly defending the PS3 but I am quickly running out of good things to say.

And now with the price going up from R6299.00 to R6599.00 how is a loyal PS3 gamer to convince people to support the best console ever made with the lack of well known EXCLUSIVE games. S.A had a huge playstation(1 & especially 2) fanbase which is deminishing extremely fast.

Drop some good EXCLUSIVE games fast including the price.

  • this is gonna be great!

  • Hi,

At least you make this blog !

I make a post about it in portuguese so more people now it.

    PlayStation Blog – http://mktpt.blogspot.com/2007/06/playstation-blog.html

    Congratulations,

  • Well, I think is a great idea to hear what the users (aka customers) have to say.

I hope you could take some good ideas out of it.

Actually I am trying to send mine but it says “Your remarks are invalid”. Is there a Limit in the characters? Because I am sending a lot.

  • Congratulations on the launch of the PlayStation.blog!

I will definitely make this site a part of my video game news reading routine.

I have been an avid PlayStation fan since the original PlayStation, and that is not likely to change any time soon. I’m a big supporter of the PS3 and the PSP and I can only imagine the great things you have in store for both platforms in the future!

  • I have a question as a user:

Who here is a beta tester for “Home” —Sony’s version of second life?

  • How to change my password?

  • I just bought a PS3 last week, and my experience so far has been mixed.

    The Good:

    1) Excellent A/V and multimedia capabilities. I LOVE the fact that Sony actually allows users to copy networked music/pictures/videos directly to the PS3 hard drive (why waste energy having another computer powered on just to stream bits?). Thumbs up for the open standards support for accepted video and audio codecs.

    2) I’m awed that Sony allows users to personally upgrade the HDD with an off-the-shelf OEM drive (as compared to the ridiculous pricing for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 HDD peripheral), and also allows them to install Linux. The same goes for allowing users to use their own Bluetooth headsets (although compatibility needs some work).

    3) Some of the games are impressive, and, believe it or not, the SIXXAXIS controller is actually pretty cool. flOw was an excellent experience (I won’t call it a game), that controlled quite fluidly and precisely with the wireless controller.

    4) Internet Browser. I find it quite handy to check my e-mail and favorite sites from my big-screen while kicking back on the futon.

    The Bad:

    1) The 1080i issue. I have a 55″ rear-projection CRT HDTV, which only supports 480i/480p/1080i. This should not be an issue for the PS3, which was billed as the “True HD” console. This is a blatant lie, because half the games available only work in 480p mode. Either patch the games or improve the firmware to allow them to scale properly from 720p to 1080i. And don’t blame the television – there are plenty of Sony sets out there that suffer from this issue as well. There are at least four more PS3 games sitting on store shelves I would buy right this moment if they scaled to 1080i.

    2) Games. I understand that there is always a drought following a console’s launch, but the PS3 release schedule is becoming laughable, especially faced with the dozens of fantastic Xbox 360 titles available, and its amazing upcoming holiday release schedule. If you want to remain in the next-generation race, you need some AAA games. And soon.

    3) The PSN Store. The design is awkward to use with the controller, and seems more like it was designed to be used from a PC. Also, even if you don’t have games to release, flood the damn store with videos, music, trailers, whatever. The PSN Store is a wasteland of emptiness, and I hardly even care about Thursday updates because there is never any content to look forward to.

    4) XMB access from within games, and consolidated friends list/chat within games. This needs no further explanation.

I hope that you actually will listen to the comments from other PS3 owners (and myself), and that this isn’t just another Sony public relations debacle. If you want to turn around the PS3’s dismal performance in the next-generation console market, listen to the hardcore users who are posting right here on this blog…

  • we need custom background downloading for the ps3 that will look sweet and more demo’s also when ever your ready some rumble will do and a release of games thanks sony

  • homebetatrialdotcom

    H E L L O F R O M E U R O P E

    R E M E M B E R U S ??

It’s the big lump just across the big Atlantic sea thingy (head to NY, keep going) – we’re the ones paying twice as much for our consoles. Where’s our PSN content ? Qbert ?! C’mon we’re all feeling really let down that the internet doesn’t seem to reach as far as us yet!

Some new games would be nice too.

  • 480p support over component would be nice. Not everyone rushed out to buy an HDTV the day the PS3 came out. Xbox 360 supports 480p. So does Wii. Sort it out Sony.

  • Dear Sony…

Thanks for putting up some visable news into the blogsphere.

I appologize for the idots who think this topic is forum to comment on every issue they have ever though of with their PS3. I.E. #380, #378, #377, #376, etc… Please dont take them as a representation of the user base.

Thanks for putting this conduit in place to help information flow between your users and developers. It’s been a long time coming.

  • thank you for making a cool system and taking your time to bring a better gaming experince and blu ray rocks

  • @YoYo-Pete
    Check this: https://blog.playstation.com/2007/06/06/ps3-goes-upscale/

And then the last paragraph: On that note, we’re always evaluating ways to enhance your PS3 experience, so now’s your opportunity to have your voice heard! Submit your number one most wanted addition to the PS3’s feature set here. We’ll post a list of the top 10 suggestions next week

I agree that it is not the place but they did say that we could send our thoughts.

Anyway, this is not the place to start a discussion.

Thanks again Sony and keep up the good work!

  • Glad to see you guys getting on the ball with customer interaction. The PS3 was off to a rocky start, but it’s really starting to show a lot of promise, and I’m excited to pick one up in the coming months. I’ve subscribed to this blog in the hopes I can see a human side to Sony pretty soon.

  • @blizard182

I did read that. Do you really think Sony wants all that in the blog comments?

By send, I was expecting users to use the e-mail form, which would be appropriate.

    https://blog.playstation.com/contact.php

  • Hey Sony, im an American in the US and we have plenty more PSN Store content than the Europeans so can’t u send a bunch of our demos, games, trailers, etc to them? maybe even some to the Japanese?

  • I’m glad Sony has an official blog now. Hopefully it will be used to post news that we’re not going to hear anywhere else: development info on high and low profile games, insight on future titles, letting us know what is going to be in a firmware update maybe a few hours BEFORE it is released (haha), etc.

I have a couple requests on updates to put on your list for things to talk about in the future. I’d like to hear more about Wardevil and Eight Days. Wardevil hasn’t been seen in almost two years and it looks fantastic. Is the game still in development and a PS3 exclusive? Any new screens that can be released or any videos? Eight Days looked incredible last year when it was shown, not sure what was CGI and what wasn’t, but I’d be interested to see some new footage or pictures, or anything that shows that this game is still in the works. I can understand wanting to hold your cards close until E3, but maybe just something on these stating how development is going, or any info on them would be cool.

Great work on the improvements to firmware functionality: DVD upscaling, PS1/PS2 upscaling, media sharing, etc. I think the main thing remaing is in-game XMB access and buddy list integration into every game. Everyone wants to be able to use a headset on every game, as well. Maybe these things once implemented in a firmware upgrade should be made a part of the TRC for future games. That way these things can be standardized features going forward.

  • @YoYo-Pete

Yeah, exactly. That´s why I said this is not the place.

I am trying to send there a comment but it says my remarks are invalid!

  • In lieu of a blog post that discusses the Store… in 2007 I would expect a console manufacturer to not resort to region-specific releases of demos and the like. If it’s good enough for America it’s good enough for us Europeans. I mean, we are paying nearly twice the price for our PS3s, we should be getting stuff first!

  • i wish you guys the best of luck on the blog. you join such other greats as Ozymandias, Major Nelson and GamerScoreBlog. All these are Microsoft and you have beaten Nintendo to the blog.

I hope you will use this site well and it is, atleast to me, a good step in the right direction. This will help get you information and feed back from GAMERS. I think that is truely what PS3 and PSP need.

Be open and friendly with people but remember comments arent always reprisenting the company, so please do speak your mind and dont just pass corp lines down.

    good luck

  • im still waiting…

  • Yap, Contact Us is broken. Can’t submit without encountering the “Your input is valid” error.

  • @sectionz i didn’t get that comment ? enlighten me

  • good luck and .. very communication please!

  • i see alot of comments in this new blog, but i don’t see any SCEA rep’s commenting back.it seems that it could be better if we sony fans heard a comment or someone talk back to us once in awhile.

  • Cool Blog,
Just like to say that I like many other UK owners think the state of our PS Store is woeful compared with that of US & Jap. Are you gonna sort this out?
Oh Yeah and please please get some more exclusive titles on PS3, This would help shut up some of those annoying Xbox fanboys.

  • Very nice! Hope we’ll get a deep insight in sony’s plans. Serious informations are so hard to get.

  • All the best of luck with this blog, it’s a real encouraging sign that you’re actually inviting feedback. PS3 is a fantastic bit of kit and is only just stating to show its true potential, the future is looking very bright indeed.

My ony request … Please support AVI/DivX so I can reduce my carbon footprint by not having to rag my dual processor dual core Xeon processor night and day converting all my TV and films into MP4/AVC format!

    Otherwise fantastic job Sony.

  • wow 397 posts at this time…nice…i see this is catching on…I HOPE YOU (SONY)ACTUALLY READ AND REPLY TO MOST OF THESE…OR THIS BLOG IS USELESS

And if this BLOG was the big purprise that every PS3 user would be happy with then SONY are a bunch of idiots and dont know what gamers really want like MORE GAMES AND DEMOS
