Blu-ray Summer Promotion

135 0

I’m guessing some of you saw the announcement this morning, but I wanted to make sure you knew about the Blu-ray Summer Promotion that starts this Sunday, July 1st. Basically, you can get five free Blu-ray movies (from a predetermined list of course) when you purchase select Blu-ray players. And yes, PS3 is one of those players. The participating movie studios are: LionsGate, MGM, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Buena Vista, and of course, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

  • This is just making the majority of visitors to this blog upset due to the fact that we were early adopters. Why don’t you do something for us. Maybe a free PSN download of our choice.

  • heihachi.vs.Kazuya

Yes this is great and all but can you allow my ps3 to play divx? Please sony. Thanks.

  • Avatar check

  • Wow, talk about dissapointed. Please answer me this Sony, why was this promotion limited to NA? We down here in aus have made your console the fastest selling over any other next gen console, and we still get the shaft.

If this is because of you guys, thats pretty poor form.

  • There should be something for us loyal customers who, have brought the system before this time, something like a coupon for half off a Blu-ray Movie, or something, I know its a promotion to sell more PS3’s, however 5 free Blu-Ray movies, just for buying a PS3, us loyal members should get something in benefits.

  • Ahh Sony trying to boost sale here in NA, if they don’t then they go in red and lose it all. Then no more games or updates for your PS3.

Now it dose suck that we a customer of PS3, don’t see an easy way to get benefits or promotion for our PS3, best way to write them by mail or email they might send ya something.

I’m not worry I got my promotion

Buy HDTV, get sec one half off and $100 off for 20GB PS3 :P

    Fox

Still promotion for PS3 owner is called for…

  • I doubt that, this reasoning is to extreme, I doubt a promotion is needed, like this, especially seeing as how it won’t do all of the work for Sony, the promotion, is just trying to caught the PS3 on, a little more, but I wouldn’t go as so far as to say that, this is needed otherwise PS3 is gone, because no company would take that chance, especially with something as a new format, the format is good, and is doing well, however its not solid enough, to dictate something like the failure or success of a console. As I said the promotion is just to catch the PS3 a little heat, heading into the biggest point of games in the year, The Holiday Season.

  • So just like lack of events and goodies, we here in UK/Europe also don’t get promotional offers, even though we always pay more. That’s really fair! Thanks.

  • Hey John this may be off topic but the 30/60 FPS issue with the football games needs a response soon

  • Awesome deal!

  • People, this is not to reward PS3 purchases exclusively. This is for 9 different Blu-Ray disc players with the PS3 being one of those that are included in the offer. You can see the form here – http://www.bluraysavings.com/Summer_Bundle-Online_Order_Form.pdf

Everyone is complaining here, but this is no different that you going out and buying a 12 pack of beer at Albertsons, Kroger, etc on a Friday for say $11.99, then when ads come out that weekend they are going to run a sale on them at $9.99 for the next week. You don’t run back in there and demand your $2 back. Same with this offer. While it might suck, it’s the nature of the consumer market.

Heck, what did I get when I got my PS3 months ago? Absolutely nothing. Although this offer does hit just right for me as I had to return mine for a replacement under warranty due to my video jack stopping to work, so when I get my voucher from Best Buy (Ugh, their return policy sucks, my PS3 broke on June 3rd I think it was, and not supposed to get my voucher til July 5th), I will get to participate in this I suppose.

  • already have my PS3.. dont really need a 2nd Blu-ray player.. tho, the list of qualifying titles is a little lacking.. free stuff is still free stuff.. who can complain about that?

  • @Rangers85
    I am not bothered by the whole “I have one already so gimme” bit. This is a sale promo after all. My issue is that we down here in Aus, that have not yet bought a PS3 (me) but are getting one in this time period miss out. Your analogy is not really valid. This is how we outside of the NA region see it;

SALE ON TODAY!!!! If you buy item A, you get 5 item B’s for free. However, even though this ad is being posted internationaly, you guys in the rest of the world will just have to go without.

The only offer we down here in Austraila recieved was the Casino Royale offer, and that was limited to the first 20,000 registered users on PSN. Being that between release (march this year) and now the ps3 has sold more than 50,000 units in Aus, this number was grossly incompetent.

If you think im whinging, your damn right I am, but that is my right as a consumer. Dont even get me started on the fact we only recieve AV leads in the box, that dont even support HD…..

  • is anyone else who bought their ps3 4 months ago mad? I didn’t get any free stuff and I really think that we should be able to get a free blu-ray movie because we payed the same amount of money for our ps3’s so what gives?

  • Sony should start their own promotion.. anyone who has suffered through returning 5 or more 360 consoles should get a discount on a ps3.

I jumped around the red ring of death sites and heard there are apparently 2500 units being returned daily!

I’m one of the lucky ones.. it hasn’t died on me yet but the amount of in game freezing is not promising.

  • I love my PS3, I’ve had it since november, but it’s almost like I feel dumb for buying it right away…

after almost 8 months of hardly any games at all, all the good games are finally coming out for fall/xmas 07, and now they are going to lower the price-

and now you can get a bunch of free movies?

geez, you should let us early adopters be the first to be eligible for BETA game tryouts and stuff since we are totally getting taken for granted…

that being said, i still love my PS3 and I wouldn’t trade these 8 months of playing it!
(it’s just been a really slow progression!)

thanks for listening to us all!!

  • @krazyboris

My comment wasn’t directed at you as much outside the US where this offer isn’t directed at. I’m more the people that are complaining that bought it months ago.

    @Everyone else
Heck, bundle offers always change, this is just another in a long string. Deals like this are pretty much dependent upon whatever a group is willing to offer at some point. Right now it seems the BDA collective is wanting to really increase the amount of Blu Ray Discs out there to stomp out HD DVD once and for all. An offer like this that is directed towards getting people to purchase any type of BD Player by offering 5 free movies is nothign else than another offer, that’ll be here, then go away for another offer. Sure it sucks if you bought it before and didn’t get this offer, but you got 4 months of using it that others didn’t.

Remember, this isn’t Sony that is offering the 5 free movies with the purchase. It’s the BDA. It’s not like Sony woke up a few days ago and thought, hey let’s screw people that bought the PS3 (or other players) months ago. The BDA is simply trying to offer an incentive for even more people to adopt their technology over HD DVD.

  • Wow. I wish this was going on a month ago when I bought my system. Oh well, that’s great news for people who are about to buy theirs.

  • This games look crazy just hope that will not be linear :)

  • lol i mistake blog i want to say i hope that will making sell more ps3 :)

  • This kind of bites big time. Don’t get me wrong this is an amazing deal.

But all we NA people got with durring launch was crappy Talldega Nights, while UK got Casino Royal. I would have loved to get Casino Royal because I don’t find Will Ferrell funny at all. I think Talldega Nights was a very poor choice of movie to include with the PS3 in the NA region considering most people either love or hate Will Ferrell’s acting.

Not to mention my PS3 died like just last week and I just got a replacement through Best Buy’s PRP plan :(. Really bites because I would have loved to get Silent Hill, All pirate movies, Underworld and Underworld Evolution on Blu-ray right now.

I also had to give back Talledega Nights and the Blu ray coupons when my first PS3 died as well so I’m left with nothing from the launch PS3.

Hopefully a promotion will come out that current PS3 owners can take advantage off.

  • Checking my avatar pic

  • i wish I never traded my 360 in. I am tired of the same games always looking better on the 360. Sony needs to comfront those developers.

  • free bd movies its cool
bluray was the winner is the winner and would be the winner of format war

  • I bought my PS3 over 3 months ago. Did I get any free “incentives”? No. Do I feel cheated? Not in the least.

I bought my PS3 when I wanted to buy it and had the money to do so. In the back of my mind, I figure that there will be a price drop around Christmas. I still bought my PS3 anyway, as I wanted one in March, not November.

Promotions will come and go, and over my lifetime I’ll miss some and I’ll get some. That’s just life, and so far life with my PS3 has been a whole lot of fun.

…and yes, some of us use our “game machines” to watch movies too!

  • The games are coming.

    Blu-ray movies are outstanding.

Planet Earth on BD is sweet.

Why is XXBIGP123XX on this blog, lay of the haterade bro.

I would have enjoyed 5 free movies, hell who wouldnt, still not mad I got my PS3 at launch. The last eight months with the console have been worth more than $150.00 in movies.

Every one who dose not have the PS3 get one now so I can kill you online.LOL

300 comes out on Blu-ray July 31st. I cant wait.

  • Great, but you guys should remember promoting blu-ray outside the US.

For example, here in Colombia, no one has heard about the HD DVD, and seeing how well Blu-ray is doing, you should make an ad showing its advantages. To make it Blu-ray territory, you know?

    I love Blu-Ray.

  • Hmm my mother like that, she like what this blue, red, yellow-ray? Got to keep up with the times, still loads of people just getting there first DVD player.. Techie get there hands on Blue-Ray first, then geek masses, from there anyone that wishes to spend there money.

Suck that UMD die for movies, it came and when other failed media, I still have my Beta Max, way better than VHS lol MD “Mini Disc” failed too, still have my player to Sony MZ-R55 all colors :P

    Fox

  • That a great promotion.

Many of the average gamers that I talked to still don’t know much blu ray.
I think Sony should make a deal with BBC and bundle the PS3 (in the US) with a copy of Planet Earth Blu Ray Discs.

The games are still not there for people to appreciate the PS3 as a console, so why not promote it more as an excellent Blu Ray player.

I bet this would help sales a bit.

But I am sure all the Chiefs at Sony have their own plans already made up.

    Just a thought

  • They always got plans, to early for UK to get anything, sales are still going there. To many hip teens after the Wii and hardly any geek here in the states.. Why me

  • I never knew so many people would complain about FREE stuff. This is ridiculous.

  • Because it free, but when ya buy it you know what you want because it your money..

Lot of complaining at FurCons, drive me crazy what people can pull out of there rear..

  • I bought My Playstation 3 on July 4th and i have the Proof of purchase still. Do i qualify for the promo? how do i redeem it ?

  • Seems this is only one way,

  • i wish you give these five blurays to people who buy ps3 before
