Greg Rucka Appearing at Penny Arcade Expo
Hey everyone, I’m John Garvin, Creative Director at Bend Studio. I wanted to give everyone a heads-up that Greg Rucka is going to be at the Penny Arcade Expo this coming weekend in Seattle, signing promotional materials for Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow.

This guy is awesome. I’ve been writing Syphon for 10 years now, and I’m not saying I’m getting burned out or anything like that, but 10 years is a long time to write for a franchise. I was looking for a way to bring some fresh perspectives to the series. Connie Booth, our director of product development, has been a fan of the espionage genre for years and had read Greg’s stuff, including two series of novels he wrote called Queen and Country and Atticus Kodiak. She had worked with Greg once before on another project, so she hooked us up. Greg writes in a realistic, gritty style and his stuff is authentic and well researched – he was perfect for Syphon. I had come up with the title a couple of years before when we were working on a PSP prototype. Greg liked the title and we started kicking ideas around for what the “shadow” might be. And boom, there it was (mild SPOILER!): Lian Xing, Gabe’s long-time partner, has a past that’s catching up with her and suddenly she disappears. Evidence piles up that she’s a double agent. I can’t say too much more without giving the plot away, but Greg’s brought a lot to the Syphon experience. You can read more about our collaboration here.

Anyway, Greg will be at the Playstation booth on both Saturday & Sunday, from 11:00am-12:30pm and again from 2:00pm-3:30pm, so stop by and say hello.

  • sounds cool

  • Fascinating :o

  • Would be cool if this was also on the PS2. I don’t have a PSP so can’t play it. :(

  • There’s Syphon Filter comics? :o

  • Sweet!!!

  • Damn I used to live in Seattle. I thought moving to Dallas there would be more going on. Oh Well. Can we get a new KILLZONE 2 post please.

    @ John Garvin

I loved the first Syphon Filter for PSP and will be getting Logans Shadow. Are there any plans for a PS3 title?

  • cool can’t wait!!!! #9

  • Any plans for a PS3 version?

  • Can we get psp demos on the ps3?

  • The first game on PSone was great. On PS2 it wasnt so good. I hope PS3 will get its version one day and beat greatness of original.

  • i love when i get the first few post it feels good i have a chance of someone reading it. anyway good job any chance of us being able to plaay PSP games and/or demos on the PS3 for someone whos waiting for PSP2000 its hard being disconnected. my first one gott stolen. *sniffle sniffle*. also make syphion filter for the PS3 itr would be a great way to get everyone to buy a PSP for the other syphon filters.

  • Bummer if I lived anywhere near Seattle I would pass by. Loved Dark Mirror anxiously awaiting Logans Shadow.

  • I actually do live near Seattle. I need to seriously consider going to this thing!

  • Well that’s great and all for people in Washington, but could you at least have told us something on leiztpeg? Or is that tomorrow? Please :D

  • Love mysterious spy-ish games.

This will fit right in with my other cool action games like 007 and others.

This game sounds like fun for my psp =)

  • Yes, can we get a Leipzig post?
We want to talk about PlayTV without going of topic :)

I realy hope PlayTV will work with the new MPEG4 broadcast network that Norway is getting.

  • @xplosneer – Nothing much has been announced at Leiztpeg that effects us. Everything has been PSP news or only for Europe, such as the DVR service we won’t see in the US due to the difference in technology. No new cool games announced, nada. Everything was announced back at E3, and all new PS3 news since then has been negative (Madden 08 better on the other system, mediocre Lair reviews, loss of Paramount on blu ray, no PS3 Bioshock/Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, etc). Maybe something positive will come out of TSG, which is pretty soon.

  • I always liked the Syphon Filter games. Followed the story from all the games :D I really like it.

    question:

is there any plan for making a PS3 version of this game, or a new game?

    -Q

  • @Flanders

Sony announced fabulous (srry my english is not that good :P) new items and gadgets in their press conference.

talk about: Play TV. Where you can for example watch tv on your ps3 and record it, then send it directly to your psp, so you can watch tv on your psp while your mom is watching normal tv for example. (thats what i have heard.)

another thing is that they’re gonna make a kind of PSP TOM TOM, which actually works!

and i believe they’re gonna make PSP messenger: send photo’s, chat etc etc etc.

Could have been more new, this is what i have found.
    Thats not ‘nothing’.

  • sometimes i wonder why games like this are not on PS3. seriously!!!

  • I won’t be at PAX, but I am getting this game :)

  • I love how the Story of Syphon Filter games in the past, present, and future all seem to incorporate real life sciences etc, involved in any of the given espionage fields, and meld them with a fictional story, adding just enough plot twist, and sometimes (considerably sci-fi) content, it’s a great series to have experienced, and continue experiencing, and most of all importantly atm, I’m very excited to see how far the psp gets pushed by games like this…

  • I still have my original PS1 Syphon Filter.
My other title will be for the Psp when I purchase the slim later this year.

  • @Qbran – I was referring to US PS3 owners. Play TV can’t come to the US because of the difference in technology…..therefore it doesn’t effect us. So again…nothing new announced for US PS3 owners.

  • Syphon Filter will absolutley be the best PSP game of the year. The graphics look way to good to be on a handheld.

  • @Flanders nah.. nothing new on the PS3, your right, but on the other hand, what you need now atm?

i mean, at least one cool game in almost every category is coming to the PS3 soon, we only need to wait:

    -Heavenly sword
    – Warhawk
    – Killzone
    – Unreal tournement 3
    – GTA IV
    – MGS 4

not to mention, home and littlebigplanet. I mean, we don’t really need anything new do we? only gametrailers and gameupdates, but thats more the thing of the gamedesigners and producers themselves, not sony.

    -Q

  • Btw, i made a gravatar acc, and putted an avatar by my email, but the avatar still doesnt show up here, what am i doing wrong or do i have to wait?

  • Oh Crap! It looks like IGN feels that Hevenly Sword kind of sucks, outside of the graphics.

“In conclusion, Gameplay – 6/10 – As solid as its component parts are, poor design decisions and awful structure mean they never make for a cohesive, satisfying whole…”

    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/815/815031p1.html

    A seven-hour rental at best…

  • @Qbrain…sure, but unfortunately half of those won’t be out until sometime next year. I’ll be shocked if we see Killzone 2, GTA IV or MGS4 before spring 08.

2008 is shaping up to be amazing. The rest of 07…..could be better.

  • oh……wow, wouldnt want to miss this

  • WTF? HEAVENLY SWORD GOT A 7/10??

    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/815/815031p1.html

wtf? Im getting tired of this crud, first they give lari a 6 and now heavenlysword a 7? Sony wtf are guys doing?

  • @joel

Gameinformer gave Lair an 8 I put the review on this blog. https://blog.playstation.com/2007/08/15/the-lair-score-part-two/

And Play Magazine gave Heavenly Sword a 100/100. Im not worried about it.

  • Damn, the playstation store is taking a while to be updated everyweek. What’s up with that?

  • @Keysersoze10033

yup…i think Sony just wants to piss everyone off…toy with us or what not…anyway…Folklore demo??…hehehe…i had the japanese demo 2 months ago and this one from Australia yesterday so this update doesnt mean jack i was hoping for maybe a different demo(s)…once again false hope

and why in gods name are we still getting E3 trailers???????? enough already!!!! get sum new content…IM BOYCOTTING ALL DOWNLOADS UNTIL REAL CONTENT COMES…maybe others that feel the same way will do the same and send a msg to Sony that they’re not giving what the public wants

  • Loucifer, please stop complaining. It doesn’t add anything to this topic discussion.

  • @ Loucifer

I’m actually impressed by the content this week, I posted that comment before the sotre was updated. My problem with the store is that it’s getting updated after 8PM EST lately. I’m sure I wouldn’t mind after next week because I’ll be playing Warhawk :). I hope we get take Skate demo next week though.

  • Yes this update is nice. I wont be able to download everything before I go to sleep though.

    @Loucifer

Hey bro, I stared of the day with a half full glass and just got a free refill. LOL

  • @40cal

    LOL…that was a good one :)

  • @everyone

I didnt say it was a bad update im likin folklore alot…just said OUR update is worthless to me since i got it a day early from Australia and i was hopin we would get more then just folklore and videos…just to clarify

  • whats really important is that if you want Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to be released in the USA, you HAVE to show interest and send letters to POLYPHONY DIGITAL, and to SONY. Kazunori Yamauchi has told Kotaku.com that in order to release it in the US, he needs to see FAN INTEREST. So start talking about it, send letters, emails, everything you can to get it released in the US.

  • (Off Topic) when is the next firmware due i live for the good stuff any idea?

  • Hi guys. Thanks for all the comments. I can answer a couple of the questions.

Comic book: Jeff Ross, my co-scripter on Logan’s Shadow (Greg Rucka and I wrote the story, Jeff and I wrote the scripts) and I have finished writing a six issue comic book story that bridges the gap between Dark Mirror and Logan’s Shadow. Stay tuned to the Syphon website for more information on this as we get closer to launch.

Syphon on the PS3: Currently our team is completely focused on finishing Logan’s Shadow for the PSP. We want it to be even better than Dark Mirror in every way. Whether we see Gabe on the PS3 remains to be seen. Personally, I would love to see a next-gen Syphon Filter.
