Taking into account customer feedback and some internal testing, we will be making available in the next few days a firmware update for the PS3 (1.93) that fixes the network disconnect issue that some of you have experienced as a result of downloading Firmware 1.92. In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested.
The main feature we’ve added with the recent updates for PSP is the ability to set themes on your PSP. Over time we will be providing themes on PlayStation.com, our official PSP site and through PLAYSTATION Store. You can download themes based on some of our popular titles. Be sure to download the files into the following location on your memory stick:
Once you have downloaded a theme, under settings, go to theme settings, select theme and then custom theme to choose the one you want to display.
You can also now play music while viewing photos or a slideshow. First begin playing a track saved on your memory stick, press the HOME or SELECT button, then navigate to your photos under the Photo icon and begin viewing.
We’ve added several other features including scene search for movies, and you’ll be able to read about them in more depth on the usual update page once it goes live. When it does, I’ll update this post with a direct link.

you need a few codecs for TVersity like ffdshow,haali splitter and AC3 filter if you do have these then while PS3 is on stop and then start shareing for TVersity check PS3 if it appears if this does not work try firewall if that dont work did you turn media shareing off for MP11 if not do that but keep shareing on you will see what i mean good luck.
i have TVersity and it encodes on the fly and i can watch any films i have in my PC on PS3 i do find it is a problem getting the PS3 to see it by searching but i just stop and start shareing TVersity and when it starts again it appears on the PS3 hope this helps you a bit

Could we have an option under System Settings named Backup? Also, thank you for having the OS as Linux, as I noticed updates are much better on PS3 compared to the Xbox 360. I have noticed I can update to any other OS I want under System Settings also, which is great if I want Ubuento or Red Hat or an alternate Linux.
KUDOS to Sony on responding to the customers as I am still awaiting response from M$ on my 360 over where it is in the world and why I have not gotten it back after 4 months of “repairs”. Sony can and do prepare customer requested updates and are hard at work on FW 2.0, you will all be very surprised with 2.0, unfortunately if Sony rushes as you all want the QA will be skipped and 2.1 will be fixing what should have been good to go in 2.0.
So to all of you XMB and Media Player and where is my $600+ I put down for this, peeps. I say this, “Be glad Sony cares and be assured Sony is working on it.” I assure you all, Sony wants nothing more than to win the console “GOLD” medal, and they know that they are sitting on the side with a Bronze. After falling during the Next-Gen Sprint, they need to take it slow and listen to you to get back on top. Sorry if 2008 seems so far away, but I will say the few games they have out, I would not play on any other system.

i can’t download the upddate 1.93 either when it hits 4 % appears an error
ever since i updated my psp FAT firmware, i cant scan for a signal, i get 00000001 internal error. this is causing me extreme saddness( omg i think i just drop a tear, oh dear) HELP SERIOUSLY do i need to get a new psp? or sony can you help PLEASE, WHAT SHOULD I DO? HELP, HELP
Considering that the PSP has been out nearly 2 and a half years and me just buying one the other day I feel like there is nothing really out there for it.
I love Sony products but where is all the software?! Especially the PSone games! There is not a single one on the store yet that is worth me buying, and there are 1000s of games, and all I see is like 8 or so…
Also, I’m a little frustrated to learn, and only because Sony hasn’t done anything to make it available in return, is that it removed the ability to download homebrew apps. I mean I totally understand why but seriously, make the games available to purchase then!

37 MINUTES! That’s how long it took this time to get the PS3 update. I only get about 2 hours (at most) to do some gaming each day and 30% of it was wasted on an update I didn’t need. This happened last week with the previous update too.
Speed up these updates or stop releasing bad ones. Thanks for nothing.

I was one of the few that got some errors, altho clearing cookies, memory and history from internet browser fixed the error. Downloadin was the normal 15 minutes which can be a bit frustrating with patch this small but I dont mind about that so much as long as it helps the other ppl with more serious problems caused by the last patch.
download stopping at 4%?? disable MEDIA SREVER CONNECTION(network settings), restart PS3 and download again. worked for me!!

L337-1: Programming correctly, ensuring the code works and it’s bug free is a good thing yes but taking too much time to deliver features that people expected the PS3 to have and know that the hadware is surely capable of simply means a loss to Sony that needs the sell as many PS3 as possible.
Mediacenter/Mediabox features are absolutely needed. The PS3 could grab the whole Mediabox market if only Sony would add the needed Codecs and Containers support. Netgear recently released a H.264 HDTV capable mediabox, D-Link has a mediabox product, Pixel Magic is a well known manufacturer of an HDTV mediabox then there are other minor taiwanese and chinese manufacturers and their products are capable of reading almost any file, supporting the majority of codecs and containers as well as decrypted discs read from shared drives/folders.
Why can’t Sony just do the same ? Currently the PS3 multimedia capabilities are pretty limited, it doesn’t support many file formats nor containers. Many said that it’s due to Hollywood pressure because there are many “pirated” file formats being freely shared on P2P networks and such BUT if that was the case then how comes other mediabox manufacturers are supporting those containers and codecs ? Also, pre-assembled HTPC Mediacenter products should be illegal and not sold in the first place.. well, I’d say that’s a moot point, indeed.
The truth is that Sony could take the HTPC and mediabox market by storm if only it added Containers and Codecs support just like competitor products mediabox do feature.

I just downloaded 1.93 off the AUS site am about to install it. Will it work with my US PS3? This might sound like a stupid question but i really dont wanna mess up my PS3 and i wanna download Fifa 08 and play Warhawk.
I sent an email to tech support about getting PSN to accept APO addresses but never even gotten a reply. It does not accept APO AE, AP and AA. There are a lot PS3 owners in these addresses and there is no way to register a correct billing address, leaving a lot of people unable to purchase anything. I hope this Version 2 you are about to release have this fix.
WTF, why cant I download this update? I had no network issues, but I still have to download this useless update, SO LET ME DOWNLOAD IT! You guys keep delivering useless, no one cares updates and then can’t even deliver it properly.
Don’t know where I should leave this comment but a very simple update I would like to see is the ability to organise my game demos/games on my hard disk properly…not by the date they were downloaded…i’d like to have things I play often such as Calling All Cars,Tekken5 Dark Ressurection and Warhawk at the top of the list and demos at the bottom. Or preferably in different folders.
Would be very easy…Having all the games/demos scattered about is the electronic equivalent of having all your games thrown on a desk..not pretty!
Also XMB in game would be great (I understand this isn’t the easiest to implement)…and also why can’t we use are own photos as are gamer avatars for the PSN????

if your running on a router try disconnecting and running the PS3 str8 to the modem
I never had trouble running updates through a router before so why should I now?
I am on a dmz so my router has nothing to do with it anyway.
neither have i…but i bypassed the router and dl the update in 3 minutes with not a single issue…Im even dl’ing FIFA as we speak from UK
Well mine is going now but this firmware update has been the hardest one for me to get and I have had mine since December so i’ve been here for most of the updates. Anyway i’m just glad its going and I can finally update my home beta and download some demos.

sony please put up the psp update on the the website here and also it would be nice if this big thing called the psp could have the same or hell most features that a little tiny mp3/4 player have like radio….playlist support…and where is the psp camera at? what about a simple digital tv tuner conected thru usb. sometimes i feel robbed with the psp. these homebrew guys come out with all these great apps almost overnight and here we are over two years later and we’re just now getting custom themes and muti-tasking support WTF. come on sony…get off your ass’s and show us your system means business.

I had the same problem. I turned my ps3 off for a couple of minutes then restarted it and it downloaded the upgrade again. it worked!
I’m stuck at 4% too.
I understand online is free but this isn’t necessary.

Alot of us were hoping for a new security patch, so those awesome people at Team M33 will have a harder (But, still very easy) time hacking it! Thanks for removing that stupid PlayStation Spot icon and reminding us that the U.S. has no special region features!

I really can’t believe why scaling of psx games on psp is filtered (this fact infuriates me), I mean I SUGGEST the add of nearest neighbor method, awfully needed for games which have been “artistically” worked pixel per pixel.

I agree with a lot of these posts, I would like the fact that you can sort music, and add more sub directories. What I would also like to see would be album art as a visualizer. What about using Sony Connect software as a media manager, like iTunes with iPods. Also, I wanted to know why there seems to be no plans on video out for the PSP-1000 owners, we all would appreciate that nice little feature. The PSP is a great little power house, how about actually using it’s full potential.

I would like to see the PS store integrated into the XMB menu for PS3 firmware v2.0.
Also Remote play need a way to power on and off the PS3 from the PSP/PSPhone when on the move.
I would like to see the ability to choose separate display settings for each game in our XMB. Some games choose 720p over 1080i. I would like to be able to force a certain display for each game so I don’t have to open the display setting each time. When playing Rainbow six I have to go into 720p mode, and when I come out my XMB looks like crap b/c my monitor supports 1080p! Please read this, this is an easy but very useful firmware upgrade.
