Firmware Update (v2.01)

I would like to formally request implementation of the follow updates that would be beneficial to every PS3 owner:

* PSP detected as local storage on Remote Play
The PSP should be considered a connected (or attached) device when connected via remote play. This way, users on remote play can copy mp3s, videos, and pics from the PS3 to the PSP. This would also extend to PSone games on the PSN store. Imagine buying a game, downloading it, the copy it to the PSP. Now if only the PSP used an 11g instead of 11b wifi connection…

* Controller Mapping for Legacy Titles… (USB Controller Adapter Specific)
Legacy games (PSone and PS2 titles) should have the ability to map controls (with USB controller adapters)as PCs do. The way it could work is you’d hold your PS button and receive the familiar context menu. From here, you’d select controller, the Map Buttons. This would prompt a controller profile in which you’d select between Dual Shock, Dual Shock 2, or Classic analog-less (Don’t know why you would), Dance Pad, Guitar, Steering Wheel, or Flight Stick. After selecting your profile, You’d receive a prompt that says “Map button for …” being the corresponding button. At this point it may ask “… for (X)” and you could hit any button on your device and it would make that button (X). At the end you can save your profile for that controller or game. This is similar to pretty much every SNES game as most of them did assignment mapping. The GREATEST PART OF THIS, is that you’d be able to map, say Guitar functions and theoretically play some perfect Guitar Hero.

* Separate PSN titles as a separate category
We all love the new sorting feature that we were graced with in FW 2.00, but it would be great it the PSN titles were separated from the PS3 demos. In my opinion, Star Dust HD and Mortal Kombat II are not PS3 titles; Nor is Puzzle Fighter or any of the other mini games. Calling All Cars and other originl titles should be in their own tier of PSN, so that the sorted folders could include, PS3 (Demos), PSN (Downloaded Games), and PSOne.

* Ability to change video resolution or settings In-Game (PS Button Menu)
We should have the ability to change video resolution from the PS Button Menu. This would allow us to keep the PS3 at a default XMB resolution, and force (if necessary) a resolution change in certain games that may require them. Much in the same way the PSone and PS2 games give you the option to enable/disable smoothing, and go normal/ fullscreen in the PS Button menu, the PS3 should give you a resolution option for PS3 games (not so sure about movies). As an example, we have all seen that Rainbow Six: Vegas looks horrendous in 1080i but brilliant in 720p. This option would allow us to keep the XMB and default resolution, yet allow us to overide the 1080p/i setting and select 720p, even though a higher XMB resolution is available.

* Support for third-party Memory Cards and non standard Memory Card Capacities (ie. anything higher than 8MB)
This one is kind of self-explanatory. It would be lovely if third-party memory cards were support with the Memory Card Adapter. Also, higher capacities could be achieved through card spanning. Namely, a 16MB card could become two 8MB cards, or a 32MB card can turn into four 8MB cards. There names could be “User CardA,…CardB…CardC…etc” This way you could see it’s portions or partitions of the same card.

Thanks for reading and hope you guys as well as the excellent folks at Sony Corp. consider these suggestions to be constructive and relevant additions to the PS3 System Software. This of course exclude the usual requests that I won’t even mention the obvious wants of the general user.
