Firmware Update (v2.10)

403 0

Firmware Update v2.10 is now live. This new system update enhances media playback on the PLAYSTATION 3 in a number of ways that the PS3 community has indicated are important.

We are introducing a much-requested video playback format with this update: DivX and VC-1 (WMV) videos become playable in the Video section of the XMB. This update also brings the PS3’s Blu-ray drive up to Profile 1.1. “Picture in Picture” and other enhancements become available on Profile 1.1 compatible Blu-ray discs.

A voice changer feature is added, enabling you to change the tone of your voice during voice or video chat.

As always, we’re committed to enhancing PLAYSTATION 3 functionality, and we’ll continue to post firmware update details on the blog as they are released.

LOL…waiting for Eric Lempel to respond to something is like asking GW Bush to end his war…just not gonna happen until someone else steps in!!!!

look back at all his posts…he doesnt answer questions/ give out information/ give us the features people are asking for….now what you will find he gives the gaming community is half assed glitched updates, features HE wants when HE’s out on the road, BS scripted answers, smoke and mirrors…that to me and others is a not so positive outlook for the future!!!

like who gives a rats ass what the actual consumers want like in-game xmb access that even im tired of hearing about, or the custom soundtracks…ok let me just sum it up by saying just about every feature the 360 has…as long as Eric Lempel has the features he wants then F—- everyone else that has a PS3

  • Now begins the fun…cuz now when all these new people start opening up their watered down PS3’s for christmas that they couldnt afford before (sux for them)…and they connect it and begin to realize slowly but surely that their brand new PS3 “super HD gaming machine” doesnt do nearly what their already overused 360 can do…then what???…LOL

games that only play in 720…if the future of gaming is HD then give us games in FULL HD like the 360 does…download and rent videos/movies/tv shows etc with the 360…not with the PS3…tons of xbox originals on XBL…you cant even touch XBL with the PSN

obviously Sony doesnt care how upsetting all these features are to not have on the PS3….so congrats on some rising sales numbers…but what i see happening is the rising sales number are just going to add some more disgruntled PS3 users

  • I like everything that sony has done thus far but adding the voice changer has done nothing but make idiots even more annoying while playing Call Of Duty online.

  • @Eric Lempel

since you obviously feel the need to waste $, time and manpower on extremely dumb features like voice changer instead of what the consumers really want, we see where you and your staff stand…so basically wasting payroll is high on Sony’s “to-do” list

how about a little challenge…since SONY TV commercials state that HD is in Sony’s DNA…HDNA sound familiar??…if Sony wants to use that statement then how about getting off your lazy ass and making the upscaler actually upscale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the PS3 will upscale DVD and PS2 games but the PS3 wont even upscale its own games….does that make ANY sense to you Mr. Director???? how about getting your staff together get off your lazy asses and stop them from making insulting features like that voice changer and get to work on REAL updates like upscaling to 1080i…i’ll even accept frickin 1080i over 1080p i dont care as long as its NOT 720…or even the ever most requested features like in game access to the xmb

GET OUT OF THIS FANTASY WORLD YOU GUYZ LIVE IN AND COME BACK TO PLANET EARTH WHERE THE GAMING COMMUNITY IS TRYING TO BE HEARD!!!!

AND DONT SAY YOUR LISTENING CUZ OBVIOUSLY YOUR NOT…oh wait…you cant say your listening cuz you never respond to anyone…LOL

  • Great update! :)

I know it seems that im not grateful in saying this, but I think every update so far has been fantastic, but one feature I would really like to see, is a general shutdown timer for the ps3, for example one of the new features of folding at home enables you to activate a timer to which the machine shuts down when it reaches zero, I think this would be a great feature to be added to DVD or Blu-ray play back too.

For example I might put a film on, accidently fall asleep or even purposely fall asleep with the DVD playing, TV goes off on a timer, but the PS3 at the moment would stay on until I woke, but if a timer was added, I wouldn’t have that worry. :)

Still excellent about the DivX support etc, I look forward to ‘home’ in 2008 too. :)

  • @Sony

    Request :

    – A clock please.

    – 1080p gaming.

    – Better support of Divx/XviD and x264 AVIs

    – AC3 audio support.

If it hasn’t been done already :

    – Full screen mode for Divx, why not upscaling ?

  • Anyone able to play Netflix movies online through the PS3 webbrowser? As a netflix customer you can download and play free moves every month, which does me no good on my computer, but would be awesome on my PS3.

Also, would be great to be able to send out Dolby True HD in bitstream format. When you send something and select True HD in the audio options, it only reads Multi Channel Audio, like when you use Linear PCM. I have a Denon 3808ci and it can decode True HD if it is sent in native format. Please fix this and add DTS MA. Thanks!

  • please add echo cancellation to the video chat. the eye mic is useless for chat without it.

  • Thank you, divx and wmv were most welcome and the new visualizer is great.
I also noticed that movie icons in folders are animated now – nice touch :-)

  • I know its kinda late to the game… can we please have something like xbox360 where you just hold down the ps button and it will eventually shut off console?

All too often cats will step on bluray remote and fire it up, and I have to walk over to turn it off, or change inputs to ps3, log off and then be done with it.

  • Well for the people wishing there was a delete all function I have great news! There is! If you press triangle when the sent or received folder is selected you are presented with a delete function this will delete all the messages in the corresponding folder.
These are issue that should not come up I think Sony really is doing an absolutely terrible job educating the public about the full capabilities of both the PSP and PS3. For example album art DOES come over DLNA media streaming it depends on the server with my experiences. I run a VAIO media server on my VAIO PC made by Sony of course but the album art does stream. The PS3 is a little touchy with the album art that is embedded in the mp3 sometimes. A restart sometimes fixed this other time it’s the MP3.
If anyone was wondering you can also plug in your PSP, MP3 player, etc. and transfer music to it from the PS3.
For the people wishing they could listen to music while using the internet browser this has been possible since as long as I can remember just press the PS button go to your music and play it then PS button back to the browser of start the music and go to the internet browser.
The PS3 is a pretty powerful system as well as the PSP for example you can remote play with the PSP and watch a slide show of your images with music in the background.
Play around people press triangle on different items experiment because Sony is absolutely terrible about telling us what is REALLY included in each update. For example 5.1 AAC was implemented 2 updates ago the most recent update added a new music visualization.
Keep up the good work on the updates Sony but seriously try to make a better effort of explaining what is included and how it works.

  • Great!! This is gonna make a huge difference. Can’t wait for the DVR functionality.

  • Awesome update!!! Congrats.

I was r thinking in an update, that allows the system to maintain online, while we are playing Ps, and Ps2 games.

    Could be nice :D

  • WOW!!! This is a great update and all i hear is a bunch of lil kids crying about what wasn’t included. Well think about it every time they release some thing we want, everyone just whines
about how they wont listen to us.

Cant you see its all being put on a BIG LIST(<-since some can only see in caps i guess)!! AND IT WILL GET DONE ASAP!!

But what do we put at the top of the list when everyones #1 NEED IS DIFFERENT!?!?!
And thats why they are working on it all at the same time. AND IT WILL GET HERE WHEN IT GETS HERE!!!
Say what you will just dont say there not listening to us because this is one of MANY signs that THEY ARE!!!

p.s. i love caps and exclamation points ROFL!!! LMAO!! IMHO!!!!!!! HAHAHAaaaaaa

  • Is it true that all PS1 games now work on my PS3???

    Say it’s so!

  • @Loucifer

Why are you here? Seriously, you obviously hate this machine, feel like a sucker for buying one, and are getting no satisfaction from the manufacturer…so why not give up, already? I used to think gamesblow was the most annoying person here, but you’ve proudly superceded him. Congratulations!

  • Why did you guys not mention being able to play any PS1 game via Remote Play? That feature is great!!!!

  • Are we ever going to get FLAC support on the PS3?

  • Can we please get support for AAC? I have a whole lot of music ripped in iTunes, and it would be nice to be able to play them on the PS3 when the PC is occupied with other things.

  • @45 CrimsonCalibur>

all of us are complaining since we spent $600-$700 on release day PS3.. true sony fans. that money came out of our own pockets. People like you who seem to be so satisfied by lame updates and half [DELETED] support probably had you’re mommy or daddy’s buy it for you no doubt.

xbox 360 plays everything + kitchen sink thrown at it.. certified Divx support, so what? who still uses divx now anyways? i want my Xvid and porn codecs!

  • @gaervern (#269)

I may be totally wrong about this, and I’m nowhere near my PS3, so I can’t actually check, but I think the PS3 does support AAC. The problem you may be having is with iTunes themselves – Steve Jobs’ rabid anti-piracy stance has made it so you can’t actually copy iTunes files to other machines. Anybody else know if I’m right on this, or am I way off?

  • FLAC support would be great!

  • XBox 360 Limit is 4G on Divx/WMV file

Why is PS3 Limit 2GB? This is Bill Crap!

Sony please up it to 4GB ast least for the PS3!

  • I going to say that the PS3 is slowly but surely moving in the right direction. That being said, the PS3 still has a long ways to go. Especially, the HD upscaling. I’m about to a Samsung HD 40 something inch in the near future. But, it will hurt if I can’t play my games in 1080p. However, my PS3 plays my games in 720p pretty well. My current HD TV displays in 1080i. I would like to advise so to keep’em coming.

  • @ Eric Lempel

    Hi

I would like to Thank you for all the Great firmware Updates but would of course like to make some suggestions. Don’t worry they have nothing to do with In-Game anything.

    1. Please fix things that got messed up or didn’t work in previous updates. For Example: The Remote Play Feature that was introduced in FW 2.00 was a great feature but never worked correctly for me and many others. Since in the FW 2.00 all it did for me was turn the PS3 on and off continually until I shut off the remote play feature. it was useless. Then comes along FW 2.01 and I think “ohh it’s fixed” but it wasn’t. It was simply a Stop-Gap Method by simply disabling the option of Remote play via the internet if your PS3 Turned on and off Continually. Now I really want to use this feature via the internet as that is what it is intended for really but can’t. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

    2. Now I usee the PS3 as a Media Hub like you would like us all too. I like many use the Tversity program to stream our Music, Photo’s & Video’s from our PC’s to our PS3’s. The Problem is that since FW 2.00 the PS3 has been misreading the time on the Files therefor cutting them off prematurely. For Example I have this 1 min video I like to watch and it stops prematurely at 13 secs. Too make sure weather it was the program or PS3 I decided to copy the files to the PS3 and it still stopped at 13 secs. So it has something to do with the PS3. It is really annoying to be streaming a TV show and it stop in the middle of the show because the PS3 thinks it is only 12 min long when it is 29 mins long. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

    3. I have noticed since the 2.01 FW update that the PS/PS2 Upscaler was changed, and many I have read also want it back to the way that it was in the 2.00FW. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

    4. I would like to request support for the WPA2-PSK (AES) security setting for the PSP so I can have a uniform setting on my router. So as I don’t have to change my Security settings on my router everytime I want to update or play my PSP Wirelessly online.

    and finally….

    5. I have one of the Epson Printers that I thought was supported by the PS3. Now the Printer gets thru and it is recognized by the PS3 but when I try to save the setting’s it gives me an error message “A communication error has occured with the printer. Check that the printer is connected and the the power is turned on.” Now Obviously the Printer is connected and powered on or else the PS3 wouldn’t have recognized it in the first place. I have looked thru the forums and found that my printer is not one of the supported Epson Printers. I am asking if you could add support for my Epson Stylus Photo R800 in a future FW update. The reason I am asking you is because you are the one’s who give out the FW updates so I assume you would be the one to add that functionality.

I would like to Thank you Again on the Great Firmware updates but am hoping that in the Future you fix your previous updates before rel

  • Lol now that is a funny feature voice changer..But please in the next update Xmb music player for our games Eric Lempel!..And if its not in that feature then please being able to chat without having to leave a online game!..That would be sweet! Ok God Bless and Merry Christmas!.And have a Save Happy New Year! =) 2008!!

  • I may be stupid, but where is the link to download the update to my pc?

  • holy [DELETED]…can the link be any more hidden and miniscule????

  • ok…i have a brand new sharp aquos full 1080p lcd tv…why do my games ALWAYS only play in 720p? even if the game states clearly on the cover that it plays in 1080p (MLB 07), they always only play in 720p

  • Much appreciated, both PS3 and PSP firmware updates are really good, i love them. Especially the ability to play PS1 games through remote play, thanks a million.

  • Ogg file support.

    Would be great also.

  • @286 cod4 also says on the box that it plays 1080p, but this is not native if you want to play in 1080p you have to go to screen settings on your ps3 and dissable 720p and 1080i. some games are native 1080p like the darkness this game will play in 1080p.

  • i also have a sharp aquos

  • @ monochromatic

If you are talking about the link I put up for the U.S. Playstation site it is right where you see the #2 Right under where the show the diagram of how to store it on your Memory Stick Duo. It says “Select here to start Download” You click the “here” word

  • I updated this afternoon…was having some problems with games freezing right as they would hit their load screens (never during gameplay for some reason)…now it freezes every 10 minutes and it freezes during gameplay and on the loading screens…what the heck!?!?!

  • New bug introduced with 2.10
LPCM audio tracks, used to resample to either DTS or AC3 in firmware 2.0 and 2.01, now it seems it’s only sending the surround channels out, and no longer converting.. the DTS light or AC3 light doesn’t activate like it used to.

This is when playing AVC+LPCM. 2.10 only 2 surround channels are working and in 2.0 2.01 it would properly convert to DTS through the optical out.

    Please fix.

Otherwise kudos, the xvid support is great!

  • Why are you guys blocking access to the RSX from the otheros?

    this quote explains everything:

“The main reason for this post is that I am concerned that it is Sony’s intention to block access to the 3D aspects of the GPU entirely. I believe this is extremely short sighted. By blocking access to 3D aspects of the GPU, Sony will encourage developers to find exploits that bypass the hypervisor security. These exploits once found may lead the way for further bypassing of security mechanisms. I understand that Sony might want to keep access to the 3D aspects of the hardware for exclusive use by PS3 commercial games. However, what is the danger of allowing homebrew developers access this hardware? Is Sony concerned a developer will create a great homebrew game and sell it through a different channel? The market for “otheros” developers is so tiny that it would not be worth while. It would actually be an opportunity for Sony to potentially pick up and improve some small games ready for the Playstation Network. The reasons to allow access are numerous. Developers will create a better experience when using Linux, create great demos that explore the hardware’s capabilities and maybe create some basic games. None of these things are threatening to Sony’s core business, they are just suggestions to make their platform ever better.”

  • some guy asked, how do i use the picture-in picture?. the first profile 1.1 BD movie is not out yet and its gonna be resident evil extinction. To the guy with the 2gb Divx files- thats some serious porn you have there mate, i’m guessing japanesse.

  • I just dont see hard it is to let us message and listen to music during a game! Listen to me NOW! WE DONT CARE ABOUT ALL THE OTHER FEATURES, JUST GIVE US MESSAGING AND MUSIC ANYTIME WE WANT AND WE WILL BE OFF YOUR FREAKING BACK!!!!! COME ON SONY!!!!!!!!

  • This might not be possible, but if it is, is there anywhere to include the ability to choose TWO audio outputs, such as selecting both HDMI and Optical, or A/V and HDMI, simultaneously?

  • wma pro, lol nobody uses that…

  • I wanna play U.S/Japan PS1+PS2 games on my U.K PS3!;-P
    Anyway in doing that Sony???
    Would be cool ;)
