SOCOM.com Now Ready For Confrontation

86 0

Green up, it’s time to go.

I’m happy to announce that SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation will be hitting store shelves and the PLAYSTATION Store on September 16th, 2008. You’ll be able to download it from your couch or pick up a copy at your favorite brick-and-mortar and get to business.

As we approach the release of SOCOM: Confrontation on the PS3 this September, we are very excited to announce the all new SOCOM community site: www.SOCOM.com.

We’ve been working for some time to grow and expand our support for the SOCOM community. The initial phase of SOCOM.com (Phase 1) will launch with the official Blog and Message Boards dedicated to the world of SOCOM. The Blog will be the place to go for the latest updates on everything SOCOM related; including screenshots, video, behind-the-scenes blogs and more. It will also give us a method to directly communicate with the SOCOM community. You can sound off in either the comments section for each post or in the message boards. We have agents gathering intel and dev team members will respond when they can.

When SOCOM Confrontation is released, we are planning to deploy Phase 2 of SOCOM.com: a whole new website which will integrate your SOCOM Confrontation experience onto the web. We’ll have more information on Phase 2 as we get closer to release.

Unfortunately, my hands are currently tied and we cannot provide any new screens or video due to a certain exclusive which is about to hit. Rest assured, we are going to bombard you with new media soon enough.

P.S. We are looking for a select few to provide early feedback on SOCOM: Confrontation in an upcoming Private Beta test. Only the top contributors at the Official SOCOM Blog will be selected. We are on the look out for people who have intense knowledge of all the previous SOCOM games and can also demonstrate their leadership in the Message Boards and Comments section. More details soon.

  • and….where are the PS Store update¿?

  • Great to see a release date!!

Can you say if there will be any difference between the PSN download and the disc?

(Warhawk had several differences in that the disc version has disc sharing for those in multiple PS3 households, and could also be used for any account – many people were very upset to learn of the differences AFTER they purchased the download version – I hope this type of information will be available prior to release.)

  • This may be a little early to ask, but will the disc version of the game have the same capabilities as Warhawk’s disc has where you can set up a LAN game across multiple PS3s with one disc? I think that’s a really cool feature, personally :)

Of course I’ll probably end up downloading it just so I have the convenience of always being able to access SOCOM without having to get up :P

    Cheers!

  • Why no story mode? Sure pwning n00bz is fun and all, but I would much rather play through an engrossing story mode. I hope this doesn’t become the norm with games. My $.02.

  • I’d love to be considered for the upcoming beta. I beta tested for SOCOM 2 and SOCOM 3 and have been an avid “SOCOMer” since December of 2002.

My Clan, RMD, has been a part of the SOCOM community since January of 2003. There are still a “core” group of us who have been together the entire time.

    Clan Website: RMDSpecOps.com

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

  • yes!!! >.<

  • It’ll be interesting to compare the new SOCOM with Battlefield: Bad Company when they both arrive.

Battlefield 2 was one of the best online gaming experiences ever (and still is). So, it’ll be interesting to see how they evolve that product line for play on the PS3.

I haven’t been impressed with any of the screenshots for SOCOM. But then I’ve only seen a select few. Here’s hoping they spruce up the visuals a bit — and add some COD4-style atmospherics (smoke, particles, etc…)

  • best news on ps3 right now. can you do soething to release the game sooner. im thinking about may this year.
also. will there be a betta and how much will it be since it will not have a campain to play. not that im com plaining, if it is socom online only that will be fine to me.
i will be selling my 360 then.

  • will it support splitscreen? Particularly when on-line?

  • Sure i take a nap and you put up the site :) I’m glad to see Socom get a web site and a new full time Community Manager in the same month. Things are looking good for the future of the series.

  • I would love to be one of the select few to provide feedback on SOCOM: Confrontation in the upcoming Private Beta test. I have been playing the game since Socom 1, I was a beta tester for Socom 3. I have been part of a socom clan since Socom 2, most of the clan stopped playing not long after Socom: Combined Assault was released. Some stopped because of life/work, but I think mostly because of them not like Socom:CA. I just stopped playing it in Feb. 08 because I got a PS3. I usually just played respawn if none of my friends were on. I think this mostly had to do with the time of the rounds and map size. Because if you died in the first minute then you would have to wait for the next round to begin, which could be up to eight minutes. So that leaves not much playing time if you die early, and that makes for a long boring time if your not playing with friends. Anyways glad to see that their will be a more direct link from the dev team to the fans. I look forward to being involved in giving the dev team feedback.

  • More news the better for this game.

  • Can we ban Karate Kid now?

  • I really thought that it was schedule for a june/july release date
Now september… i dont know how you guys will do it but theres way too many games around this time and as of now its gonna be a dry summer for gaming

  • Can’t wait for the game to come out!

  • i’m very bummed that this game has been pushed back to september 16th but it’s good to know it’s been dated, i’ll be watching socom.com now for my info, hopefully you’ll update it quite frequently with lots of new info

  • Ah a release date, even though its pushed back from the july we expected it will allow for the game to be completly polished before release.

Im looking forward to more news from the egm article and hope there is a wide range of equipment thats balanced :D!

    Socom veterns unite! : )

  • Blu Ray VS Download for me:
When Home does arrive i am guessing that Socom will be supprted, along with Warhawk, LBP etc…. I would rather have a library of games that are stored on my PS3 and be able to hop into and out of them and back to home, without actually getting off my lazy @$$ to load the disc. I see Warhawk as a half hour excursion with my friends, then back to Home to figure out what is next. I think i will be keeping COD4 or GTAIV in my machine and running as much else off of the drive as possible. Just my opinion and reason why I prefer the soft copy. I also never trade games in for $$ as they rip you off and i am pretty careful to buy good games and not overplay them (Except SOCOM, which i played nonstop until i got the PS3) I hop this is close enough to the topic :)

  • 69: Yeah i agree i prefer to have 1 disc in all the time which for my ps2 was socom 1, 2 and metal gear solid 2,3 :P!
Downloadable titles is brill, but warhawk doesnt catch my attension as much as this does! : )

  • Why is karate Kid Spaming in a SOCOM post, of all posts why a SOCOM post. Socom players HATE SPAM!!!!

PS, Karate Kid is the future of In Game You-know-what whiners. Long after in-game-you-know-what is released, these cockroaches will thrive by making up new possible functionality and complaining into this blog as a source of life. Please shut the spammer down.

  • Please Block the Karate Kid,
He is the futur of 1N-G@ME-you-know-what whiners. Long after 1N-G@ME-you-know-what is added, they will be here, on this blog, puking demands for funtionality that was not ever in the box when they spent their $$. Why would you spam on a SOCOM post. Socom players HATE THE SPAM!! (It’s too salty) “)

  • Thanks Jeff, YOU ROCK BROTHER

  • Hey Jeff any news if the blu-ray disc version of socom will come with a headset like warhawk, cuz there’s been rumor’s of a special ps headset,
and i would like to know if there will be a beta, i want to be considered for it, but i think only G.A.P. members will be invited but some dont have history on SOCOM like me and others who are pro at socom 2, well thats all jeff thx anyway :p

  • Hello Seth,

Thanks alot for the news and information you have provided today! I have high aspirations for this game! I have followed Socom since it was first introduced in and OPM way back with a picture of a seal in the map known as Abandoned. I have played Socom and not stopped since Socom 1. I have beta tested both S2 and S3, and I know what the Hardcore Veterans of Socom are all about and love.

Above that I know the game needs to evolve and keep up with the “constant change” of the gaming industry. So I welcome changes, but I would also love to see a return of the gameplay most fell in love with from S1 and S2!!! :)

Who knows maybe I will be able to help beta test this Socom as well, and help bring this game back to it’s “old-school style of play”. Maybe I will be able to identify glitches and bugs in coding once again, and help stress test the servers, that is of course if the beta this around will be more than just a stress test as it was in the past beta test for S2 and S3.

All the more thanks again for the update!

  • Nice. I hope that the download version of SOCOM Confrontation is not as severely restricted as the Warhawk one (cannot play under another username in a 24 hour period).

  • I hope you figure out the DRM issue so that other family members can play on the downloadable version without screwing up (or helping) my overall rank. If not please make it really clear on the download page. Warhawk DRM = bad

  • I can’t wait for this game!

  • Great news. Good to see that they are doing this for the community. The SOCOM community deserves this – even though we have had a lot of unofficial community forums dedicated to the SOCOM franchise.

  • Nice looks like some cool stuff for interactive play. This series has come so far from Socom 1 it’s always great to see how zipper and sony will push the envelope. I am curious how this will be a downloadable game or blu-ray disc. Just seems like the file size capabilities of the disc would allow for a bigger game and the download max is 80GB. Should be interesting to see how this goes. Socom Combined Assault was supposed to have another map pack any idea if that will still be released or it has been incorporated into the new game?

  • Great! I’m looking foward to the beta!

  • i been going to the site like 30 times a day hahaha just waiting on some more news!!
by the way its an awesome site it will develop to be a great source for socom news etc..

  • Great stuff. I’m starting to get more and more excited for Confrontation. I don’t want to get too high hopes, because that’s what ruined my SOCOM 3 experience.

This is deffo showing that Slant Six, does give a “damn” about the community. Creds to you guys, and keep up the great work!

  • I Hope that i get in the beta!

  • From what I am hearing you all are anxiously waiting for the Sept. released of the newest socom, like myself. I hope the designers take their time and make it to the best of their abilities. I hope they use the beta testing and implement all they can. If they can’t get the bugs worked out to meet the release date I hope they push it back as long as they have to, to make it a superb. I know this might make a few made but it would defiantly be worth it. If I could beta test it would be awesome but I know every one and their brother wants to do it and only so many can. I just hope for a few things, the graphics will blow us away maybe even 1080P, a life bar because it is a virtual game and you have to sense to tell you how much damage you took earlier in the round, or how much the game actually registered, also I would like the lobbies like the original with a friends list based off the XMB and be able to make parties and join games so they stay on the same team if possible.

  • This might be old but i would also like 2 be considered for the beta. That is old.

This is not and why is pretty sel explanitory
