Hey Everyone! We know you’re all patiently waiting for the next PS3 firmware update, ver. 2.30, which includes the revamped PLAYSTATION Store. The good news is that it’s coming soon, and you can now see how the new user interface will look in this video demo featuring Grace Chen.
I have more good news to report today – the system software update will also add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray videos, which means the high-definition visuals of Blu-ray will now be matched with the highest quality audio for the ultimate movie-watching experience on PS3.
DTS-HD Master Audio is literally bit-for-bit identical to the studio master recording and makes movie soundtracks and sound effects truly come to life. The technology delivers audio at the incredibly high rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on Blu-ray disc, which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. DTS-HD Master Audio also offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths, so you’ll be totally immersed in the sound. The firmware update will add DTS-HD High Resolution Audio as well, which is a similar output technology that requires less disc space. You can read more about both codecs here.
A lot of you, particularly the home theatre enthusiasts and audiophiles out there, have been asking us for this capability, and we can’t wait until you have an opportunity to pop in a compatible Blu-ray video to test it out for yourself.
Woohoo, awesome!!
Yabba Dabba Doo!!!! EXCELLENT!!!!
wow guys .. just WOW. good things come to those who wait.
good job! nice lady ;)
Thank you!
YES YES YES. Looks great!
looks really good! Gonna be worth the wait for sure hopefully lots of new ps1 games to downloads hehe :)
awesome! a surprise within a surprise! This is great! Thanks for the update and video!
I have a question. If I put an item on the store and happen to close the store will the content in the checkout basket still be there or will i have to relocate the game if i want to purchase?
ooorrrrgaaassssm
nice. i never had a real problem with the old store but this one looks much nicer. i like that the purchased items don’t disappear anymore. I’m guessing this way if u ever delete a game off your hard drive on accident it wont be as hard to find again to download.instead of going through all the demos and other items on your download list.
amd i really like these videos showing the new firmwares and features. would be cool if you can get some exclusive gameplay shown off this way like for Resistance 2 or maybe for the next Warhawk booster pack(after broken mirror). would be kind of cool to see the developers playing there own games.
what is the PSN Blog Team’s favorite new aspect of the store?
NICE!!!! You guys are really doing it up. I never once doubted.
Grace Chen is one foxy lady!
Beautiful. So is the update ;)
oh any update on PSN cards?? would be awesome to have them with the new store
wow that looks good ( so does Grace Chen haba-haba) ;-)
I forgot to ask, will the canadian prices be fixed in this new store? I’m not buying anything until it is.
Let me say that this is a fantastic update. I was a bit skeptical at first after looking at the screenshots, but now i am convinced. The store is organized very well and the fluid nature of the transition is very nice. As a owner of both the XBOX 360 and PS3 I can now say that the PS Store is just as good, if not better than XBOX Live Marketplace. I just hope Sony and Playstation keep up good, regular updates.
REQUEST!!!!!
Can we please have PS2 Classic downloads. This, along with reasonable pricing, will be very popular
GOOD WORK SONY!!!!!!!!!
Does the PS3 decode and down-mix the DTS-HD for older amps or is the decoding of the data stream handled by the amp only?
The PS3 can decode and down-mix the DTS-HD. The audio signal down-mixes to the core DTS (5.1) or PCM (2.0) when using the optical cable. Keep in mind that the A/V receiver needs to support the core DTS in order for it to decode the signal.
