Hi, everyone! Just wanted to provide an update about the PlayStation Store. The store for both the PS3 and PC will be unavailable starting early morning Monday, April 14 through early morning of Tuesday, April 15. You will not be able to access either store during this maintenance window.
As you know, we are preparing to release the revamped interface of the PlayStation Store for the PS3, which will be available on Tuesday. Regular weekly updates of the store will resume on Thursday, April 17, along with the release of GT5 Prologue.

I’m sorry I have to be the one to say this, but Sony is about the bigger picture. They are going to take care of you all, but not as fast as you may like it. They want it to be right from the start, which is why the Store is down for 24 hours. Also why Home is still not out. When the Open Beta starts, you will be happy, watch.
Well to me it doesn’t matter I have credit was just trying to help out those who don’t with that attitude it must be hard for you to make friends jk jk, yeah I read you’re post I am well aware of the PSN cards coming out. I just don’t see the purpose in flaming me when this is a place for common opinion, obviously you think you get your news first. This topic is old news and quite a few people were aware of this months ago.
I guess no one should try to help out others who want to purchase items from the store now right? Well no debate here…because there is nothing to debate your point was and is noted. Don’t try to make someone out to be of less intellect then yourself. You will loose. I know how to read I grew up in America *hence the hint at sarcasm* jk jk.

I am now waiting for the Video on Demand feature that we have been hearing about. Last I read, we have to wait for home to get that.

I want adobe to create a flash player that will allow the PS3 browser to play flash 9 video.
If I had access to hulu.com on my PS3 browser, that would be awesome.
Yeah the flash player upgrade would be nice, why have a machine that can surf the net when half of what is out there cannot even be shown….and maybe fix some audio codecs….I like the DTS HDMA but what about simple audio and video codecs that are all but dinosaur now….flash player 9 please. I miss my newgrounds.com
By the by do you think this store upgrade will effect other user accounts you have say like for the UK and JP areas?

Noel, if your still here, the Store looks great, nice rip off from Singstar, only it is sssoooooooooooooooooooo slow compared to the old one, no icons showing and takes forever to load. Any idea’s???
Also, are there any onther features included in the 2.30 update. We were promised fewer updates but with more content ( alot like the store) and as of yet we have only recieved 2.20 and 2.30, both with a BD live 2.0 and HD Audio for the few and far between….not exactly packed with content as promised eh?
What is going on with ingame XMB, or with HOME or custom soundtracks, things that the PAYING public want?? Some information is better than nothing, at the moment its like a special operations taskforce that has to keep everything and everyone in the dark.
It appears some of my payed for items are now missing, mainly a couple of motorstorm’s addons and a folklore pack. :(
Good work on the new store, it’s so much better than the old one. Good work, and im so happy that you’ve added all the psp games and demos to it, the PC store really hates my psp for some reason, i no longer have to use that as you’ve added it all in one place for me, thanks guys.
just two requests..
in-game xmb (well, all i care about is music, so just being able to play music in-game would be cool)
and.. a clock on the xmb/ps menu would be great, just like the psp does.
so often i need the time, and i don’t have a clock out in the game room, so to have one embeded into the ps menu and xmb menu would make my life much easier..
Also, thanks for bringing the link to the new firmware online at the same time (near enough) as the network update. our ps3 wireless connection doesn’t like d/ling stuff.. hope this happens for all the future updates too..! (please?)

Why is the new store so @#$@#$ SLOW?! I hope this is just temporary from server overload or something… but it’s slow on all regions.
The new store should cache all the store data in your HDD so you don’t have to load graphics up every time. And on that note, cut the icon roll out thing. Looks fancier, but it’s more efficient to show everything instantly.
I hope the speed picks up soon. If it stays like this, I think Sony should hang their heads in shame. This speed is just embarrassing.

The firsts 24 hours are always kind of messy and slow. It will get better in short time.
Store looks amazing. Only complaint is, the thumb nails are taking MINUTES to load up. I hope they sort this out :(

Can you please send someone over to Europe and help the incompetent staff over at SCEE. The layout on the new EU store is just horrible.
Why wouldn’t Sony have had some new content with this launch, given we were asked to accept a two-week downtime? At least the Rock Band songs we missed? Sony’s customer service is always lacking.
The new Europe/Germany store isn’t loading/displaying ANY content previews for me but otherwise it looks quite decent.
Any plans to implement a search function?

There’s a few buffering issues with the preview feature, and some pics aren’t loading right away, but over all I much prefer this new store. FAR easier to search for content and the circle button to go back a page feels a lot more natural. Good work Sony crew, now to get my hands on GT5 prologue.

Why the heck is the text so small on the new store. I have a 30 inch SDTV and I cannot read any of the store text without getting three feet away from the screen and squinting. This is the WORST redesign ever…epic failure! I could at least see, read, and enjoy the old store. Also this is NOT FASTER at all. It is not faster by a long shot. It takes forever for the content to download to the grid on your PS3, so you end up waiting longer to see content. Again EPIC FAIL!
You might as well admit this needs yet another work-over. This store is worthless to anyone with a SDTV smallerthen 40 inches.

Solution: Get an HDTV.
The PS3 is an HD device. Nobody with an HDTV wants their experience hobbled because some of you haven’t upgraded to HD yet .You should consider the SD support as just backwards compatiblitity. Like playing PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3. Some work. Some don’t. That’s life.
The new store is hardly a “fail”.

All of you worried about the icon loading issues need to CHILL OUT.
Give it a few days to a week. If it’s still like that…then complain all you want. The damn thing just opened up and there are thousands or more users logging in a the same time.
Now…just make sure all of you log off on Thursday afternoon so that I can get my new Warhawk and COD4 maps quickly…LOL

The new store sucks at the minute with no preview function on the EU store at the moment and it is so slow.
I can’t believe that it doesn’t save the current icons when you close the store and you then have to download them all again when you next open the store.
Mind you come Thursday when the European MGO beta is release I won’t care ;)
Firmware 2.30 is still a great update thanks to the DTS HD-MA support. Must admit that is is one feature I’ve been waiting for :)

The best I can gather is that this feature has been requested since 01/01/2007. That is 16 months ago… 480 days… NASA can fly man to the moon and back over 70 times in 480 days, yet Sony cannot get InGame XMB working?
I bet that if you gave the O/S code to a group of open-source devs they could have the thing working in 60 days! Sure there’d be some bugs… add on another 60 to test and fix bugs and you are still looking at only 120 days. Also, let’s pretend that my estimates are a little off.. pretend it takes twice as long as what I estimate… that is still half the time it has taken Sony to produce NOTHING.
I am not buying the product development/qa lifecycle excuse any longer.
Sony has not put focus on it. It is as simple as that. They tell us “yeah, yeah, yeah.. we are working on it.. we promise.’ But the truth is they probably just started working on it Q407 at the earliest.
Stop making excuses for Sony’s failure to recognize and learn from their competitor’s successes. (VHS vs BetaMax ring a bell?)
I am not an XBOX fan…. at all.. but Live! rocks.. and if Sony doesn’t get their fecal matter together I am trading my PS3 in for an XBOX 360. Sad… very, very sad.

I have a SDTV Smaller than 40 inches, unfortunately. I want a 50 inch HDTV, but thats beyond the matter. I just wanted to say that I can read the text in the Store perfectly. I think there is something called ” Glasses ” that you need. Check with your doctor.
By the way store is perfect.
I loved the PS3 and hate MicroSoft.
But Sony. I have made my decision.
I HATE M$. With a passion.
Unfortunately, I don’t hate them as much as I hate spending my money for something entertaining and deriving nothing more than frustration from it.
On that note, my plans this evening are likely that I am going to BestBuy with my PS3, telling them my BluRay drive has stopped working and getting my $$$ back.
I will then use my money to pick up a similarly priced XBOX 360.
I will sell all my PS3 games to Gamestop or something.
In the end, I will come out of pocket about $100 to have a system that leaves me with far fewer frustrations than the PS3.
Sony, focus…… focus on your user requests or you will find more of your customers jumping ship.
I don’t care which console is “better”.
I know the PS3 is a better piece of hardware. I also know that a Ferrari is a better car, but I still can’t fit the groceries in it.. which is important to me.
Perhaps I based my initial purchasing decision on the wrong criteria.
Sure PS3 has BluRay drive. The number of BluRays I have watched with my PS3? One.
It has built in Wireless. I have wireless at home, don’t use it for my PS3.
I can install Linux on it. Big deal. I did and guess what? I never used it afterward.
Today’s gaming world is about social gaming. Just like cell phones are not just for making phone calls, they are for ring tones and text messaging and picture mail and the list goes on. Today’s consoles aren’t about just playing a game, they are about interacting socially.
If Sony cannot figure this out, the PS3 will lose whatever footing it already has. Perhaps they will…. in time…. apparently lots of time…. and I don’t care to have my money wasted waiting.
Farewell PS3. It was an OK ride, but far to slow and bumpy for me.
PS: Comment and flame me as much as you want. Just remember I am not alone; but my opinion represents something far more valuable than those in support of the PS3. It comprises the very essence of constructive criticism.
Hi. I have a quick question regarding the image loading times on the new store.
Is it so slow due to a large load on the servers, or is it some other reason?
I have come across many people who are slightly irritated with the new store being fast (the store itself) yet slow (image loading) at the same time.
Please shed some light on this Noel, or whoever else is on.

Whoa! looks like somebody picked a color scheme that makes reading the text difficult,
and picked a font that’s too small for me to read even with my Hubble Space telescope,
Coke bottle bottomed reading glasses. I’ll bet it looks really spiffy on a jumbotron, but I don’t have a jumbotron; but that’s ok,
because I can change the color scheme with the color scheme changer. Oh…wait…there isn’t one.
All is not lost though, at least I can choose a larger font with the font picker. Oh…wait…there isn’t one of those either…buy hey…great update…I guess…

I have played XBOX. I HATE HATE HATE MicroShaft. But what I hate more is the $600 worth of nothing but frustration. Sony’s online experience sucks huge donkey [DELETED]. It is as bad as America Online was in the 90s.
To those of you who feel “you did not want me anyway.”…. good for you… but who cares.
If you cared to read my statement in context, you will note that it is not [DELETED] addressed to you. This is to Sony. Perhaps if they know they’ve lost a customer they might listen; they might make a change.
And if you insist on harboring ill feelings towards me, you will have plenty of time to let them fester… while you sit in a game lobby TRYING to connect with your friends to play.
I, on the other hand, will be too busy playing to give you a second thought.
Truly, I hope one day, to be back on this side of the battle. I like the PS3, I hate M$, I hold high hopes for Sony. It’s just that I am not going to make their shortcomings my frustrations.

Between you and me the difference is that my first console in this gen was the 360. You can check in xbox.com and check since when I don’t play in it, since January. I have 2 360 in the house and both have the 3 RROD, is very frustrating really since is still in repairment one of them and since december I don’t have the gold because had problems with live and I wasn’t willing to pay for a service that have problems with an excuse that “is better”. I don’t know what is your frustration but if you want Home believe me, wait until E3, in game message in summer, trophies with home etc and I’m not counting that if you purchase the PS3 you know the exclusive game is better in the PS3. If your frustration is with the store is because of the traffic and if in Thursday keep the same problem then post here but believe me, the frustration is the same in the other console with some issues sometimes in the update and they doesn’t have regulary updates and it’s been a while I don’t feel my xbox new because the updates just do the friends of friends or an update for the dead format (HD-DVD) or a better navigation in the marketplace that a lot of people like the old one (I like the new one BTW) but the PS3 have more evolution and feel like new in every update.
Sorry to make this off topic thing but I want you to not go to the wrong way just for desperation. For the people that are waiting Home is the same like waiting for the IPTV in the other console.

You take the whole “shortcomings thing WAY too seriously, and if you could see past your NOSE, you’d see that the PS3 is an incredibly multi-faceted machine, and that your lofty expectations are far greater than they need be.
Calm down, keep your PS3, and for the love of God, don’t even THINK about trading it for a piece of SH|T 360.
That would just be going from the frying pan, into the fire.
Keep a level head, stop acting like all this really, seriously bothers you, and just calm down and enjoy what you have.

I just believe, based on the past, that Sony lacks with the vision to be the fore-runner or the faith in consumers who speak their desires.
I hope you are right. I hope Sony does pull out and ahead of XBOX piece of fecal matter.
But for now, I just want to get the most oout of my $500 gaming console. And to me, that is being able to play online (socially) seemlessly and without all the frustration.
To clear things up, my frustration is that the games do not integrate nicely with the OS.
A comparison using COD4:
XBOX lets me send an invite and my friends get it within moments. I am out an playing with my fiends within a minute or so. (Even if they were playing something else, they can play COD4 with me in just a few moments.) And I never left COD4 to do any of this. I can log in two hours of stress relieving play time only losing about 4 minutes to what I call connecting with others.
PS3 lets me send an invite and who knows when my friend gets it. If he is not playing COD4, I have to exit the game altogether to send the message, and then he must do the same to read it. In two hours of what is supposed to be stress free play, I get 45 minutes of play and 75 minutes of trying to connect with friends.
I know it sounds trivial but to me it is not. I did not pay $500 to spend almost half my ‘fun time’ not having fun.
