Hi all! Our Metal Gear posts are attracting so much attention that we’re popping back in ahead of schedule to answer some of your questions off the regular Metal Gear Mondays schedule.
To start, we have been getting reports that some of you are receiving partial digit UPVC’s Metal Gear Online Beta on the “Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2″ DVD inserts. We are aware of this issue and are working hard to remedy. If you’ve been affected by this issue, please contact us at http://www.konami-data.com/support/. Please be sure to include your partial code, and any other pertinent details (like a return email address, etc). We thank you for your patience.
Second, as some of you may have noticed, the download of the MGO Beta client is now available. Carefully following the instructions you received with your UPVC, you can go grab it. Once it’s downloaded and installed, and you hit the main menu, you’ll notice to proceed you need to sign in your PSN account. Once you’ve done that, you’ll see that there is an update that must be downloaded and installed. From there, the next menu is where you can sign up for your Konami ID/Game ID, which are required to play Metal Gear Online. You can also sign up for a Konami ID/Game ID at http://id.konami.net at any time using a web browser on a PC as well. Once you have signed up for your Konami ID/Game ID, and input it into MGO on your PS3, you can select the option to save the login and password and just login directly in the future without having to input it again.
Following that, until gameplay begins on the 21st, you will just receive an error if you try to sign in to play MGO right now.
As mentioned in the previous posts about Metal Gear Online and Konami ID, the Konami ID/Game ID will be used to offer community and other features with Metal Gear Online, similar to some other popular multiplayer online game web communities, except in this case the web community is directly integrated into the game client which allows for some special functionality. As you use Metal Gear Online, you will see how the PS3 web browser is seamlessly integrated into the experience, and then of course, you can go and access the community when you are away from your PS3 as well, using a web browser on a PC. We’ll reveal more about the community features of MGO at a later date.

@I Love New York: You must sign in to play Metal Gear Online. There is no local play option.
darkiewonder asked: Any of the Konami folks will be playing in the BETA as well?
@darkiewonder: We sure will!!! We may try to arrange some matches with you all or something like that… Stay tuned!
Sheen asked: Upon downloading the Beta on the 17th, what can the player do? Would I be able to tool around the character creation settings and all that before I play? I’d like to do that beforehand.
@Sheen: Thanks! You can set up a Konami ID/Game ID through the MGO client/PS3, or can do so right now at http://id.konami.net, otherwise character creation and of course gameplay will not be available until the 21st.

I keep waiting for the Metal Gear Monday post… I’d like to actually get a question in the first few responses so maybe, just maybe, the might think to deign to listen to it. The fact that the game doesn’t even use or PSN ID is just absofrackinglutely ridiculous.

It’s funny how their problem is being unable to handle the load of people wanting to play, so I they plan to open the beta on THE WEEKEND. *sigh* Well, my GAME ID is disgruntled_platypus. See you all there, barring more delays and oversights.

well, i know it’s not just adding an extra harddrive to a raid, which is why i left it open with “etc.” and “set them up.” i don’t see where i said they only have to turn them on. either way, writing to scale is not something that’s obscure, it just takes time. but, even scaling up won’t work if the hardware can’t handle it. you adding the rest of the minutia that i deliberately didn’t care to go into doesn’t change my point. they have to order up more resources (servers, etc.) and set them up. yet, for all we know it could be all due to something completely unrelated like an ant infestation causing someone to spill their coffee on the self-destruct button to their konamicave. i just don’t understand why they wouldn’t write code to scale to their servers’ maximum potential, and i don’t see how you adding what you did changed the fact that it’ll come sooner than later since it’s not rocket science, relatively speaking (especially to those that know how to handle that sort of thing) and to relax and have patience.
Is the Gunmetal Grey Limited Edition PS3 Bundle gonna be a 80G or a 40G like the one in Japan??? Also is there a price on this bundle yet??

Hey, at least now that we know it wont start until 25th April, all those hot-heads out there can spend a couple of days getting their heads straight. Not enough Prozac being prescribed in the States I guess…
how long did it take to download the up date 1.001 or something like that, is it not working because the servers are down because the beta was put off ? are they the same severs ? they messed this up BAD

I think that this delay is actually a delay on the entire game itself. I think that Konami not getting this part right is just a glimpseof the Delay to come. How could they not know how many people want to play this game! Its a joke to me. Konami should have made the Beta available to just the people who reserved the game. Instead of everyone who did reserve it by letting everyone and their mommas download it and not being able to handle the heavy traffic. Very bad foresight by Konami. I got a good idea that Konami will not be getting the praise that the were looking for.

Ok its apr 22, 12:20 and just 2hrs ago I signed up for every thing, every thing went good the download the update even the sign up but when I try to sign in on the game it gave me an error saying unable to connect or somthing like that…
I hope when I get home 2marrow every thing will be working…Nice tralier
Idk if this may be the problem but those of us that live in U.S.A might notbeable to connect becuase its only of for another country..when I downloaded it I had to do it from italy…..my friend let me use his account to download it but when I signed up at the site it said if you choose the wrong cuntry you may not beable to have accesse….so can any anybody tell me if im right??

Last I read, the beta has been postponed until the 26th- this weekend…they hope. It’s not guarenteed. Konami seems to have fixed the server issues though and sign up for a game id was smooth sailing this time around. Hint: the game id password can’t contain letters- that kept f@#$ing me up.
You guys should add female characters to the beta or at least make sure they are in the final version of this game. Men are not the only gender that will be playing MGO.
Sounds great! Can’t wait for the Beta. Maybe you can push some ideas and avatars on Sony to publish before the release of MGS4, you know, to build the hype. Sure would be nice, even though pine cones are so pretty.
