  • My wife and I are enormous fans of music and rhythm games. We have all the Karaoke games for PS2, All the Guitar Heroes, Rock Band, Amplitude, Frequency, etc. We’ve even got Vib Ribbon.

Anyway, I was shopping the other day in Future Shop, and I saw the new Karaoke Revolution game for PS3, American Idol Encore. I picked up the box, and read that you could download songs.

So I came home and logged into the new store (which is awesome), and checked out the prices for songs.

    $2.49.

    Each.

I almost crapped my pants. TWO FIFTY?! FOR ONE SONG?! Plus taxes! Give me a break!

When is Sony going to fix the bloody Canadian prices for downloadable content? Because of these ridiculous prices, you just lost yourself a game purchase and many online purchases for songs. From reading forums and this very blog, I’m not the only one who feels this way.

  • hello, time for my always stupid question of the week:
I live on Argentina (South America) ,i have a debit card BUT NOT a creedit card

I now that the PSN cards will never reach my country.

How i can buy stuff from the PSN Store.?
    Cheers ,Fernando

  • damn, a lot of typos.
    creedit card = Credit card
    I now = i Know
    Sorry for that :D

  • I would also like to say that it would be nice to know a timeline when prices between CDN and US stores are going to be the same. I know that there was a post on this blog from a higher up at Sony saying this was being looked at but no timeline was given, thanks for the info.

  • For those of you enjoying R-Types, here’s ANOTHER UPDATE about the control slot issue.

IF you keep your Rock Band official instruments plugged in 24/7, you’ll need to remove them prior to booting up R-Types IF you want to play the game from PS1 controller setting 1-1A (default), otherwise you’ll need to change to 2-2A during the game.

I thought it had to do with the way the game was installed, but it’s just some type of glitch in the actual game when you have USB controllers plugged in and you boot up.

  • Wow… and I thought Rock Band was getting weak with the new songs. This Judas Priest album is ridiculous!!! My PS3’s going through warranty right now, but this is such a good update to the store, I had to steal my bro’s PS3 just to play it already! Great update Sony! Now lets just hope the Blu-ray drive doesn’t fail on my replacement PS3, ’cause with GTA4 around the corner along with everything else slated for the near future, this is the PS3’s time to shine!!!

  • This may have been raised already, but Peter Dille publicly said on this blog that Canadian Pricing is being fixed, I then see that R-Types is 5.99 in the US and 6.99 in Canada (17% difference) COd4 Map pack is 9.99 here and 10.99 in Canada (10% difference). So not only is the pricing still outrageous considering our dollar is so close to parity, but you are not even being consistent with the gouging.

Please let me know when this will be fixed because I will not buy anything on this store until it is addressed. Perfect example is retail/PSN products, big stores like Walmart and Best Buy havie matching prices for games in the US and Canada (59.99 in both countries) yet to buy it digitally in Canada (which costs less to distribute) I have to pay more.

Thanks for listening…oh and this is a GREAT update, simply badly priced DLC for your loyal Canadian fans.

  • echochrome is awesome… thanks for giving us a taste of what’s to come!

  • Had a question, I noted that europe got the C&C ps one game, is there a chance of that making it stateside?

C&C red alert was my first Playstation game to own, to hold, and to play.

Its older brother though has always eluded me.

    Thank you..

    Chris

  • why no Pixel Junk Monsters!!?? can you please answer me? I dont understand, it has such a following here why just Japan… it just really hurts our feelings….. :(

  • Great update Sony!

Have your staff ever thought of hooking up with valve and their steam services to provide an even bigger library of software on the PSN store? Is that even possible?

To those that want RPGs on their PS3. While you wait for them to show up on the PSN go to ebay or a local game store and you can find some of the best PS1 RPGs for under $5 and you get a hard copy to store away.

For themes: go to http://www.allps3themes.com. It’s quite good; getting themes every other day.

  • How about highlighting which countries the updates are for.

i.e the COD4 map pack is still not available in Singapore.

Checkout how Major nelson does it for XBOX updates…

  • what is the deal with the echochrome game! it does not work or am I the only one that is having issues?

  • To Mr. Noel Silvia:
When will we see a futuristic or science fiction naval combat sim with submarines of different sizes, SCUBA-equipped soldiers, undersea military bases, destroyers, anti-submarine ships, etc? You might pick up a few good ideas from Undertow on Microsoft Xbox Live even though it is a side scroller. Also look at the underwater missions in Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow.

  • I know this probably wont be anwered again!!!

But, where is the ONLINE Play for High Velocity Bowling?

I repeat, where is the ONLINE Play for High Velocity Bowling?

Anyway, love the update this week! GOod Job!

  • Where is the online play for high velocity bowling?

Just thought I try again, hopeing for an answer!

  • Great update. 2 demos, COD4 map pack, and R-Type? Best update in a while.

For all the rpg whining, I actually do agree with it. Mr. Silvia does have a point about it taking a while to make one and localize it. But the PS2 did have a solid entrant early on, Shadow Hearts. Moreover, the whole wait for x game doesn’t hold a lot of water, when the 360 already has LO, BD, ES, etc. The PS3 struggles to hit 10k a week in Japan. If Sony feels that said genre is too niche to provide SquareEnix with the incentives to finish FF13, then that is their choice. It just means I get to contribute to MS attach ratios in the meantime.

    Current:
    PS3: HSG5, DMC4, Resistance, COD4, Uncharted, Folklore.

    360: DOA4, VF5 online, LO, Culdcept Saga

    Year end:
    PS3: Same
360: +Ninja Gaiden 2 (yes I know it is an action game), Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery

Keep it up Sony. As much, I like to go with PS3 version when as possible evidenced by the purchase of DMC4 and COD4, you really make it hard to be a Playstation3 fan.

  • @167 Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. There are so many great games comming out this year. How can you say you are not even looking forward to one of them. I hate it when you get trolls in here! Sony I don’t see how people can say what #167 said. I have said it before and I will say it again, you guys actually care about the customer unlike some other company I know. You know they make this thing called Vista which is horrible along with 99% of the rest of there products.

  • although I agree with 168 that there are some good games coming out this year for the PS3 I have to say that 167 has a personal preference like the rest of us. As for me I’m excited for quite a lot of games:
    MGS4
    Resistance 2
    White Knight Stories
    LBP
    Echochrome
    flOwer
    Pixeljunk Eden
    Socom Confrontation

Sony continue to bring cool DL content. I hope I see Audioserf down thee line on PSN! Also, would love to see a new Amplitude (although Harmonix made it, I think you guys own the IP but i could be wrong)

  • @163 sigma003-

did you have a guitar hero guitar or rock band guitar activated on your PS3?

I heard that would mess up the echochrome demo-

    maybe try downloading it again?

    good luck

  • “Any word on having GTA I and II up for download on the PSN Store for the GTAIV launch?”

Can DL them both for free on PC at Rockstar’s site. Have to fill out a small forum but that’s all: http://rockstargames.com/classics/

  • Avatar photo

Thanks for all of the great feedback, folks.
Definitely some good and constructive comments on here yet again.
I’ll be back next week for next week’s update, but anyone looking to play HotShotGolf OpenTee this weekend or Call of Duty 4 (Double XP weekend!), feel free to add me: NoelPS
    Till next time!

  • Great stuff, Grace. I’d really love to see some more updates to the Avatar selection. I love getting this great content, but it’s simply disappointing that there aren’t many avatars on the PSN.

  • @150 Darkiewonder

To answer your question, you can already download GTA1 & GTA2 for free at Rockstar’s website for your PC only. Have fun.

Man, i think i should be working for SONY.

  • OH MY GOD, THE PS3 IS LIKE TO C00L. THE THING THAT SUCKZ IS THAT I DONT HAVE IT YET CAUSE I NEED TO MAKE MORE MONEY TO GET THE PS3 AND ALSO I WANNA GETT THE WII AND ALS0 THE X-BOX 360 LOLZ. SO PEACE MY PEOPLE WHO STICK WITH SONY!!!
    :)

  • Canada gets the shaft again. Why does Sony hate Canadians?

  • someone please tell me how to find the iron man demo, i have been searching over and over for hours but cant find it in the platstation store!!?

  • I remember finishing the original R-Type during lunch breaks at school so I was ready for a nostalgic blast.

D-pad only? What? I played this 20 years ago with a joystick and now on one of the most powerful gaming video systems of all time it doesn’t have the option to use the whole controller?

I don’t care if it was crippled like that on the PS, it’s one of the landmark side scrollers and 10 years after that version someone could have added basic stick support. Nowhere on the store does it say d-pad support only. If it had I would have left the game where it was and kept my $5.

Even Defender on the 360 had stick support. There’s old school and then there’s ancient. Make an effort to at least bring PS Network games into this decade with some basic code updates.

  • When are the Wipeout Pulse expansion packs going to be available in the USA??
They have been out in Europe for months!
Are they even going to be released here? Does anyone at Sony know?

  • Ok I’m with everyone else who is upset about the lack of classic PlayStation games on the PSN, Only a small handful of the titles available to North Americans via SCEA-PSN, are truly classic aka. worthy of purchase at this juncture…
Here’s an idea for the future of gamers, no no man(&woman)kind in general. If companies don’t like their hardware modded or homebrew hacked, to do things it’s capable of on a very basic level, why don’t those companies, hurry up and produce to the mass public the means of which these things are made possible, After all the only difference between homebrew hackers, and company tech-heads lately are, one gets paid the other doesn’t, oh and one seems to be more efficient/goal oriented, and the other doesn’t, respectively, but I’ll leave that up to the reader of my post to establish respective comparisons of my statement.

I guess what I’m saying is, If you don’t want to lose a race… the gas peddle is on the right… don’t forget to use it, it controls the fuel injection, If you don’t try to beat the homebrewers to the punch, then you might as well stop whining about their efforts, no-one likes a sore loser.

We got a million or so people about to come off their FFVII Crisis Core high, that lends a nostalgiac message to the gamer upon the end of game/credits roll… ‘To be continued in FFVII’ now would definitely be a good time to have a FFVII PS Classic on the store, I own a hard copy, and would still buy it to play it on my psp, or perhaps Square has plans for an FFVII remake? perhaps now would be a good time to inform the consumer, as to aleviate lack of patience, then less people like us would be posting about this nonsense on this blog, In this particular fashion.

  • Haven’t played R-Type since I gave up my old Sega console – Iron Man also looks pretty darn good – and some nice previews – excellent update! ^_^

  • woo this was the most stuff i got in 1 update ever.. there was so much content that it said the backround downloads were full by the time i got into the wyclef vids

  • 167, you’ll notice that marked that NG2 wasn’t a rpg and the reason why was my post, outside of congratulating Sony on a good update was a response to the state of rpgs on the PS3.

    http://img193.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=77050_DSC00078_122_45lo.JPG
    http://img126.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=77058_DSC00079_122_922lo.JPG

Oh hey look at that. ES, LO. Wow, I’m playing some jrpgs now on the other system, instead of waiting until 2009.

I am very simply expressing my frustration with the lack of jrpgs on the PS3. I also let you know that every 360 only owner I know is pretty happy with owning that. Every PS3 only owner I know of getting a 360 by year end if not earlier.

Sure you can pass the time with Mana Khemia or Persona 3. I personally enjoyed Persona3 but I don’t exactly need a PS3 for a PS2 game.

  • edit: I should typed 168 instead of 167.

Also props to the blog for allowing my earlier post. It is nice to see that the company is as a whole is more open to criticism than some of its fans are.

  • Echochrome had a great demo, It’ll be the first game I’ve bought on the network since everyday shooter!

  • @ kedaro

good post. but they did release two r-type games in one pack. that’s a start. it might not be a game that we all wanted but its something. we should learn to appreciate, so we don’t look pissed off all the times.

  • More PS1 games! More PS1 games! I mean… one game? We should be getting at least 3-4 a week if you want to keep up with the quality of the XBOX Live network.
