Metal Gear Online Beta Patched, Live

152 0

Following the delay of the Metal Gear Online Beta test this past Monday, 04/21/2008, the MGO development team in Japan has done substantial work throughout the week to analyze the issues that occurred, and remedy them to make gameplay available as soon as possible. As some of you may have already noticed, we are pleased to inform you of the following…

The MGO development team has created a patch for the MGO Beta client, bringing it to version 1.02. This patch is intended to resolve and improve any connectivity issues on the client side. The patch is now available through the MGO Beta client. You will additionally need to download and install the 1.01 patch, if you have not already done so, also available through the MGO Beta client.

Additionally, the MGO development team has made significant improvements on the server side, adding more gameplay servers, and also improving the code running on the servers to optimize performance.

With these solutions in place, gameplay of the MGO Beta test has now been made available. Please remember, to compensate for the delay, the Metal Gear Online Beta test gameplay period has been extended a week, now ending on 05/11/2008.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that your Metal Gear Online Beta Unique Product Voucher Codes (UPVCs), used to redeem the download of the Metal Gear Online Beta client, will only be valid up until 05/05/2008, so please make sure to redeem them by then.

We would also like to point out that we have created a “simplified” Konami ID “quick registration” form, available at [LINK: http://id.konami.net ], which is required to access and play the MGO Beta. Not only has it been designed to ease any connection issues, but to ease the registration process as well.

Here are the direct notes from the MGO team in Japan:

“We would first like to offer our most sincere apologies to all participants of the METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA test for all inconveniences caused thus far. At the same time, we would like to inform you details of the possible causes of the problem along with the actions we have taken in order to resolve them.

Konami ID

Initial problems were caused by the extraordinary numbers of customers trying to login to the site in order to create a KONAMI ID in order to take part in the beta test. In response, we have increased server capacity as well as creating a separate KONAMI ID registration site specifically for customer wanting to take part in the METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA test.

METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA test

In order to reduce the load on our server, we have implemented a queuing system where the number of players that can login to the server is kept at a certain level over a period of time. Added to this, the client has been updated so that the time out settings when logging in have been relaxed. This may though, lead to a longer wait when trying to login.

At peak times, you may be placed in a queue for places in our server. In such a case, we would like to recommend that you try to login after a period of time.

It was also discovered that connecting to the server on creating and registering your character was very difficult. This again, was due to very high levels of traffic. We have increased server capacity and have also improved both the system performance and the server program in response .

We will be carrying out further improvements between 00:00 on 04/26/2008 with the resumption of the beta test as the game is scheduled to enter full service on 06/12/2008. We would like to apologize once again for all inconveniences caused.”

Once again, Konami would like to apologize for any difficulties experienced, and we offer our deepest thanks for your patience. Your participation in the MGO Beta test, and excitement for the game, is very meaningful to us!

Please stay tuned to konami.com, the PS Blog, the Konami ID site, and Konami Japan’s MGO teaser site for all the latest MGO Beta test status updates.

If you need assistance, please contact Konami support via http://www.konami-data.com/support/ and you can email via mgobetasupport@konami.com

Thank you!

  • in response to darktorns, i couldn’t agree with you more! it’s hard enough to try and download one update, let alone two! i just hope they get this fixed by june 12. and by the way, is konami planning on charging to play mgo when it actually does go online for real? if they are, they can count me out 60 dollars is enough in my mind…. it just smells of greed.

  • I have been playing bunches! It’s great! Thanks!

  • to kazammm, how have you been playing? when did you download the beta? was it after the original delay or do you have a beta from before 4/21? i’m just curious because i can’t download the update and it is really frustrating. please respond. thanks

  • same error 090B:00000001 090B:00000001 090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001090B:00000001

  • Has anyone gotten past the 090B:00000001 error if so can u explain how?….Konami plz fix it…………..soon.

  • no one has gotten past that error and it’s pissing me the f off

  • idk why you guys are getting that error, but ive been playing since yesterday, and its amazing. i really hope you guys get your issues fixed and come join us in the beta.

  • @108, wrong, i got past it. once. what i did was select OK everytime it refused my connection until it finally did. took 5 attempts. based on this i am assuming 090B:00000001 is a server busy error. it was about 4 pm est (-5 gmt) when i got on. i am assuming most of you are trying to log in during peak hours of play, and being the weekend before GTA4’s release, everyone and their mommas momma are getting their MGO on since once tuesday comes everyone will be GTAO instead.
@109, yes, yes it is very much amazing fun.

  • I really like how Konami is addressing the partial voucher code issue! I preorder MGS4 expecting to participate in the beta, and I can’t even sign up. What am I supposed to do? The time is ticking and I have 9 days left to register, but I can’t do jack.

  • @110 Thanks ,I will give it a try,MGO here i come…….i will post when I manage to get on…..if I can

  • I got in just fine didnt have one problem just have to do some ready and be on time to get in.

The reason everyone is geting errors right now its what they said in the reading.

You will not beable to get in untell the server is not busy to get in the Beta!

So if its full keep trying tell you get in.

Once your In have fun and choose wisely!

Because once you choose your stuff your almost stuck with it for the most part tell the end of the Beta tell the game comes out!

The Main reason there doing the Gamer ID and the other id is because it’s a BETA!

Come on think about it.. why would you make a charactor and then when the game comes out be stuck with what you have when you had the BETA!

so if you like when your in.. I’ll be Home from work at 11:30pm CST

ADD ME!!!! i have a mic (bluetooth) baby!

    MGO id: skater_ricky

  • EDIT:
    Reading*

    PSN: Skater_Ricky :D

  • so I have a question, if I downloaded the beta from the euro store but live in the US can I get on?

  • 111 kills and about 250 deaths and its still fun…..kinda tough but addictive

  • @115 You should be able to as long as you have US Conami ID(I think it shud work but im not to shure). If you get the 090B:00000001 eroor, dont worry it means the server is busy, lot of people are getting that one(try logging on at diffirent times.

  • kook I will keep trying. I have just been looking forward to this game for some time now. There are so many great things coming to the ps3 this year but they can’t come fast enough. I just have to keep telling myself to be patient.

  • Well, I just finished playing the game, and I have to say that it is slow going just as others have said. You really don’t feel like you are moving along the way you do in Lost Planet for example. You can’t turn quickly enough and the tuck and roll isn’t quite right. I’m hoping the off line play is much better. Then again, I only played it 2 or 3 times, so we’ll see if practice gets me to a different level. Hopefully the game picks up in speed later- after you gain a certain number of points or something. Here’s to hoping.

  • oh there was a typo in my last message. I wanted to say kool not kook. LOL. Sorry I am on my iPhone.

  • @111: here’s a reply I posted a few days ago on another post, which is valid for you as well:

You don’t need a 12 digit anymore. Just get it on the Euro PS Store, it’s free over there, no need for a pre-order or anything, just…voilà!

Could someone from Sony or Konami actually address this issue: why all the hype for the MGO beta only for US pre-orders, and then a few days before the beta, it’s available for free for everyone? Personally I think it’s better if everyone can access it without pre-order or anything, but I’d like to know why US customers were forced to pre-order the game to access the beta…

Personally I can’t connect right now. I managed to get in on Friday night, just once, and it hasn’t worked since (I’m getting the same error as others).

Server is supposedly up though: http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/index.php

I’m trying to post but my comment doesn’t appear…

  • how do you dl it from the euro store

  • You have to make a united kingdom account and then download it in their store.

  • Looks like the client has been removed from the uk store.

My mate wanted to try it and he and i cant find it any longer.

  • True, I found out this afternoon that it’s been removed as well. I can’t find it on the US store either actually…

I guess Konami removed it to reduce traffic and server issues. In the meantime, I’m still trying to connect and it doesn’t work…

  • I just gave it up! I’ll be played GTA4 REALLY,REALLY sooooooon! I’ll be back when Metal Gear comes out.

  • Well, I think they removed it, because the server is full, I got mine on day 0 from the euro store, and I must say is fantastic, sure, there are some issues, but I hope they’ll fix them.

haven’t had any trouble and I’m fron Costa Rica, so I guess, the trobble you guys ara getting is because they might have closed it before you logged in…hope you guys can enjoy it too…

  • I really got bored with the MGO beta. the gameplay is just so so and slow. I will still buy the game because the style of game works in single player just not in an online multiplayer. Expected much more, sorry Konami.

  • i played for about 8 hours on friday after downloading the second patch. i enjoyed it somewhat. most of the people that played dont play it the way it was meant to be played but instead try to play it as a COD game. one thing that i really did not like was auto aim. i think that auto aim should be able to ge toggle off and on during hosted game options. i also think that they need to fix the speed of the reactions. if you try to go into over the shoulder view, some one with auto aim will kill you azz real fast becasue it takes forever for the character to look around, same thing in first person view. the inability to not run fast gets old fast but then again thats the way mgs is so i can take that. i hope these are not the final graphics because i really didnt think they were so great, third person view in COD4 looks way better. the way the character move looks more natural along with the clothing they are wearing. i really like the mgs series and will buy this game for the campaign not for the multiplayer. what are your thoughts?

  • WHAT THE!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ABOUT THE GUYS WITH THE NINE DIGIT CODES LIKE ME!!!!

  • Ok. I’m done with this game. Where is the survey? I’ve got a list of things that need to be addressed.

  • WHAT ABOUT THE GUYS WITH THE NINE DIGIT CODES!!!! Nothing was said about the nine digit code problem.

  • I did everything, I installed the game, downloaded and installed both updates, I have my konamy ID and Game ID, and when I’m going to log in this is what happens:

Security certificate has either expired or has been enabled.(Your PLAYSTATION3 system clock may not be set correctly.)Continue processing?(070B:00000002)

    Yes No

then if I click (YES) it tries to log in an then:

Unable to connect to server. (090B:00000001)

I’m trying to communicate with mgobetasupport@konami.com but I don’t receive any answer.
    can anone help me!!!!

  • i have to say that the MGO beta really shows a lot of promise, but being a beta, there are some things that need addressing.

    Gameplay
-Auto-Aim should be able to be toggled on or off when making games.
-i understand that MG is a slow paced game, but the ability to run (be it through an ability or a normal button command) should be added.
-over the shoulder and down the sight zooming needs to be faster. someone using auto-aim can take you out before you even zoom in.
-a strange thing ive noticed is if i try to CQC someone who is crouched, it doesnt work. im sure itll be fixed by the time the game releases, but its currently annoying.
-weapon range is incorrect. currently from long to short range it goes (sniper rifle, SMG, pistol, assault rifle, shotgun). it should be (sniper rifle, assault rifle, SMG, pistol, shotgun).
-if i CQC grab someone, they can just get right back up immediately. im assuming that ive used considerable force to knock him down, so he should probably stay down for at least 3 or 4 seconds, no?
-a single button command to go into down the sight view would be a big help. currently you have to hold L1 then press triangle. a single button command would help.
-give us a jump button command, please!

    Character
-in the beta i cannot change my character uniform options without deleting my character. i would like to change my character loadout and uniform colors, etc without having to start all over.
-the ability to create more than one character would be nice as well.
-multiple character loadout options when playing a game would be nice too, so we can pick an appropriate character to camoflauge into each map.

    Community
-a party system would be huge, so we can get together with friends/clan mates and find a game together with ease.

P.S. is this the best place to voice my opinions on the beta? if not, where should i go?

  • i agree with you 134 on just about everything you mentioned

  • I’ve had fun with the beta so far, but here are some suggestions (some have been mentioned already):

    – CQC: should be more streamlined so that one can more quickly/easily dispatch an enemy (think Jack Bauer style).

    – Run/Sprint feature: in the matches I’ve played, a couple snipers can easily pin down nearly the entire map because the players move so slowly.

    – Fonts for in-game, on-screen info should be larger/more readable.

    – Konami ID service should be retired…it is poop. PSN integration is the only sensible course.

Thanks for the beta Konami…not a bad game experience at all. However, it does seem more of an ‘alpha’ than a ‘beta.’ The suggested changes really ought to be addressed if you would like your game to seriously compete with CoD4 and SOCOM.

    Peace.

  • I agree as well.
I agree also with the comment that said that MGS isn’t really a type of game that is compatible with online gaming, it’s more of a single player kind of game…the gameplay is good in single player mode, but online I didn’t think it was that great. I could just test it for a few minutes though, since I couldn’t connect after Friday night.

Why no one from Konami can communicate about the infamous “Unable to connect to server” error a lot of people seem to have?

  • Ummm, you guys are waisting you’re time here. If you want to be heard then go onto the beta and voice your opinion on the MGO community page or by sending game mail directly to the Game Masters. For best the best results, I strongly advised you to do both.

  • This is SONY’s blog. It would be much easier if you wrote directly to the guys who are actually making the game.

  • And I do apologize for the typos. Later.

  • The game needs to have ‘a run’ button. The players are moving way to slow or the game should be faster like cod4.

  • They should have left the servers down. What a disappointment. MGSO will go down in history as the “Gigli” of online video games.

“it’s Australian for crap; mate” — Paul Hogan

  • It is a disappointment. Big time.

I certainly hope MGS4 doesn’t feel the same as this game.

No worries though: GTA IV in just a few hours.

  • u guys call your selfs MGS fans and all you do is hate on it. yeah, its not fast-paced and all, but thats because its metal gear! i think this is the best online game ive played because of MGS controls, not like other games. oh, and the new sneaking missions they added today gives u a chance to play as snake! can’t wait JUNE 12!!!!!

  • I love MGO!!!

Im not for that chaotic online killing sprees like COD4 so this is great…

  • one more thing, i hate how when you try to cqc someone and you miss them, you keep doing cqc and cant snap out of it, its retarted cuz your opponent can just shoot you and all you can do is keep and punch

  • MGO is a an acquired taste. i’m glad fanatics of COD4 will stay away from this game. hopefully, that’ll mean there’ll only be people with more refined tastes and ways of expressing themselves. but, that’s asking for too much. at least it’ll, more than likely, mean that people with a keener sense of strategy will be left to play. sneaking mode is phenomenal: much more intense than any mode on cod4 and halo put together.

  • @Big Boss

MGO is a an acquired taste.

So is my ex-wife’s cooking, but that don’t make it good. I don’t care how much mustard you put on a dog rocket, it’s still a dog rocket.
The upside for this game is that there is nowhere for it to go but up. (@squintado See the love?)
Even adding Pink Hello Kittys and Telletubbies at this point would be a vast improvement. (@squintado That ain’t hate, Cupcake. That’s “a natural fact”.)

people with more refined tastes and ways of expressing themselves.

Things people that suck at cod4 say for 500; Alex.

at least it’ll, more than likely, mean that people with a keener sense of strategy will be left to play

Left to play what?! Certainly not MSGO as implemented. Chess and Checkers require strategy.
MSGO as currently implemented is completly devoid of strategy.
They’ve turned a brilliant strategy game into a very poorly implemented run/hobble and gun, which is what everyone should be complaining about, but I suppose fanboys like you will spend their allowance on anything.
The only upside is: There is plenty of room for improvement before release date.

    xoxox

    PE.

  • sneaking mode isnt that great in my opinion. i spend more time killing the other team than i do killing Snake and Snake is the whole allure of this mode! all you have to do to avoid Snake is camp and lay some traps (magazines, claymores, etc). i dont like camping in any shooter, but thats really the best way to play sneaking mode. not very fun to me.

  • @PsychoEddie

By virtue, an acquired taste is always good. The only way it can be otherwise is if the thing has absolutely little to no legitimate value.

“The upside for this game is that there is nowhere for it to go but up.
Even adding Pink Hello Kittys and Telletubbies at this point would be a vast improvement. ”

This statement is ironic and hypocritical when followed by the following statement:

“Things people that suck at cod4 say for 500; Alex.”

And it’s a very specious argument. The fact is, just because one might not be very good at something, it doesn’t mean they can’t love it. Similarly, just because one sees the little value something has, it doesn’t mean it’s only because they’re not very good at it. You make presumptuous and irrational arguments.

“at least it’ll, more than likely, mean that people with a keener sense of strategy will be left to play

Left to play what?! Certainly not MSGO as implemented. Chess and Checkers require strategy.
MSGO as currently implemented is completly devoid of strategy.

They’ve turned a brilliant strategy game into a very poorly implemented run/hobble and gun, which is what everyone should be complaining about, but I suppose fanboys like you will spend their allowance on anything.”

Have you played the sneaking mode? Are you honestly going to argue that there is no strategy involved in that after having played it? You’re associating checkers with chess? If you can’t see the inherent strategic value of MGO over checkers, then i’m afraid you aren’t very discerning.

personally, i don’t care for any multiplayer mode in MGO besides sneaking, but even then, the rest of the modes are no better or worse than any other game’s multiplayer modes; every multiplayer shooter out there is as shallow as the next and even as shallow as people are claiming MGO to be. But at least the MGO modes offer the strategic MGS skillset that far exceed most other games out there. run, gun and camp: yeah, that really beats MGO’s run, gun, camp, stalk, incapacitate, requirements for paying careful attention and heightened sense of cooperation. MGO is the chess to COD4/HALO’s checkers. And, if you can’t see that all by yourself, than i’m afraid there’s really too much of a hassle for anyone to try to explain to you the objective merits and demerits either way. it’s not worth it.

The only upside is: There is plenty of room for improvement before release date.

More pertinently, the bright side is that you couldn’t be any less discerning and rational than you already are.

try to win some rounds with snake on games with good people and try to say that it takes no strategy. please, what does cod4 have? hardcore search and destroy? that’s laughable.

but, i suppose impetuous people like yourself will always just say any ill-conceived thing for lack of perspective.

    @mysticjon

a game of chess with people that are bad at playing chess isn’t very fun as even a hypothetical scenario either, but that doesn’t mean the game isn’t great when people that actually play it properly go at it.

i’m done here. there really isn’t anything worth arguing over with people who aren’t very bright.

  • I have two question, hopefully I can see answers to, so please if anybody (Brandon Laurino) from Konami reads this, please answer me these two questions.

First thing, I’d like to know, is if our character stats will be carried over to the real release of MGO? I’ve been working hard to get all Mastery skills at Level 3, and I got a decent portion of it done. Just want to know, once I log on in the real MGO, will my stats be available?

Second thing I’d like to know, is at Midtown Maelstrom, if you put the camera view at a certain angle, while playing, everything looks in real time motion, as opposed to the gameplay we’ve seen in Groznyj Grad and Blood Bath, is this something that is being worked on, for full release of MGO?

    Thanks for your time :)

  • @PSPMAN07

if our character stats will be carried over to the real release of MGO?

I believe the Konami web site says “No”.
