METAL GEAR MONDAYS: New MGO Beta Content!

121 0

Hi all! Welcome back to Metal Gear Mondays! It’s certainly been a busy week, and once again, we’d like to take a second to thank you for all the great compliments and feedback from our previous installments – and of course, your enthusiasm for all that is Metal Gear!

We’ll pick up where we left off … As many of you know, gameplay of the Metal Gear Online Beta for the PLAYSTATION 3 is well underway as of the time of this post – please see the last bunch of Metal Gear PS Blog posts for full details on the Metal Gear Online Beta program and content to date.

First, we’d like to clarify, once again, because we see people still asking about this – Metal Gear Online comes with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It is not a separate product. Metal Gear Online is the online multiplayer component of MGS4. We will be expanding MGO over time through new downloadable content (DLC), such as, maps, weapons, skills, and much more.

MGO is not a paid subscription service, you can play online totally free right out of the box – we know some of you thought there might be some payment because of the last step of Konami ID registration, but that is to confirm your identity for future potential microtransaction content updates (you don’t have to register any payment info right now anyhow). There is no payment necessary to play, and – again – that is for future potential microtransaction content updates, when that content is available, should you want it.

Good news – for those of you who might not have yet received a Unique Product Voucher Code (UPVC) to download the MGO Beta client, there are still a few opportunities to obtain one from the very limited batch of UPVC’s being given away now through our promotional partners at IGN, Games Radar, and the Mad Gamer Network – and some of you PS GAP members should have a special surprise in your inbox too J. Please carefully follow the instructions on our partner’s sites for your chance to win! Again, this batch of MGO Beta UPVC’s are available in an EXTREMELY limited quantity, so don’t wait, hurry and register now!

Next, we are happy to announce NEW content for the MGO Beta is LIVE NOW!

We have included one new map Midtown Maelstrom

img04_03

This is a part of the Middle East stage in MGS4. This consists of some main streets and alternate routes. Numerous alleys are in between buildings, and are dark, narrow, and very confusing.

Next, we have released a new gametype rule, Sneaking Mission.

img03_02

In this rule, there will be one character and two teams in the game. Snake, Red team, and Blue team. Snake’s mission is to collect a certain number of dog tags, by having other players stunned or held up. Red and Blue teams’ mission is to defeat Snake certain times or defeat more players in the opposing team. If more than 10 people are in the game, another player may play as Snake’s mini robotic sidekick Mk. II, to assist the Snake player. If you are playing as Snake, you have many of his incredible abilities available to you – such as the camouflage!

There are some other random things about MGO and the MGO Beta that we’d like to address:

You may not have noticed, but in the MGO Main Menu, you can access the Community Site right from in game. You can also access it here http://mgo2web.konami.com/us/community/ from a PC/web browser at any time. You need to have created a character to access the site. Once inside, you can manage and view your friends, clan, profile, stats, blog, and there will be many other features introduced over time. Additionally, you can post feedback in the forum, and this is really the best place to get your MGO feedback to us (yes, we do also try to read all the comments here at the PS Blog and elsewhere – and, I’m sorry, I wish we had time to respond to each and every one – we try to address as much as possible in these posts).

Another issue is it seems some of you have had issues activating your mics – please make sure you have connected your USB/Bluetooth mic correctly via the PS3 system settings. If you have, then simply hold down the select button in-game, and you will see a message appear that your mic is on as well as a mic activity status message with your name (if you’re speaking), if you are in a lobby you will see a flashing mic indicator next to your name.

Please also try out the training modes in game thoroughly, as they can be helpful for newcomers and veterans alike. Here you can learn the intricacies of CQC, weapons, movement, and just about any other gameplay question you might have. There are also extensive options in game for tweaking your controls (e.g., inversion, camera speed, weapon shortcuts, etc), ui, and much more – please be sure to take some time to set up MGO exactly how you like!

Lastly on MGO, to add a friend, you want to do a player search by their character name (not Konami ID or Game ID), which are case sensitive (e.g., Hideo and hideo could be separate characters). Please note, your friend must be logged into MGO at that time to appear (otherwise you’ll get a “not found” error). To check up on your friends, just go to your Friend List inside the Personal menu. Your added friends will appear here, and if they are online, it will show what lobby they are in too (if its unranked and they’re in game, you can join them immediately, if there’s room in their game).

Please don’t forget to check out the latest KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS REPORT from Ryan Payton at Kojima Productions in Japan!

We’ll see you here next week on the PS Blog, for the next installment of Metal Gear Mondays!

  • Hey Brandon Laurino, I was wondering if Kojima Productions will actually add anything that the community has added? At the MGO Community Site many people including myself have contributed great ideas. And we were wondering if anything will be added.

I feel like I’m wasting my time posting there because I seriously doubt KP will add any of the suggestions we have made. And I think we need a clear answer to this. If all KP wants is bug reports or other gameplay suggestions (like game play modes). If its just bug reports and stuff like that, I will stop contributing.

So yeah, please give us a clear answer. We would really appreciate it. Thanks!

  • I can’t play the beta because my ps3 is dead but… it’s really that here in Puerto Rico can’t play the beta? What? :|

  • It’s really true*** …sorry

  • thank you.

  • The character moves too slow in the game. I hope you guys at Konami speed it up. Than you.

  • The more I play it the more I love the beta. I just think alot of people would enjoy it more if we can use our psn ids.
I know it’s no your fault but alot of people aren’t buying mics and most the people who have mics seem to be having trouble getting them to work. Those two problems, if adressed should make finding friends and adding friends alot easier and should give us the best experience we could have with mgo.

So please try to use our psn ids, and for the people with know mics if y’all can’t bundle a headset y’all should at least encourage people to buy one on june 12.

  • Is the Konami ID also used in the final product?
Why not use the PSN login so people only have to register once for PSN?

The PS2 had the same problem, you had to register per game to go online…

  • Cant play because of the 9-digit pass code i have.

  • We really need to get rid of the konami ID thing it really does seem to be a waste of time, is there any specific reason for this? It really does’nt matter if were doing something similar to the X360, it does actually work!

Also @ 53: I agree totally we need the facility to run/jog or whatever.

I know you say we can invite freinds from in the game if there in the game lobbys but what about someone who is playing something else and we can chat to them via the PSN and coax them into some sneakey fighting :-)

First 10mins of Beta i thought it was crap then i actually bothered reading the game instructions……now its awesome! tee hee.

  • @Brandon L.: Do you have an update for us that received a partial voucher code and e-mailed Konami about it, like it was said in this Blog.

Are we ever going to get a new voucher code?

Or should we just forget about participating in the beta because of a misprint?

  • Where’s that survey for the beta? Can’t find a link to it

  • I find it “interesting”, to say the least, that Konami doesn’t give a damn about the dozens of people who can’t get in because of the “Unable to connect to server” error…

So we pre-ordered the game, got the DVD and voucher, downloaded the file and updates, created our Konami ID + Gamer ID and then no, we can’t “connect”, even though people in Europe got the beta for free and can play all they want.

That would be nice to let us know why we can’t “connect”, and why we can’t play. It is not a DMZ or router port issue. I opened the right ports and set the PS3 as DMZ. It is not an ISP issue either, a friend of mine got the same ISP but got the demo on the European store and can connect all he wants. Someone said earlier on the blog that we shouldn’t complain here. The fact is that Konami rarely responds to emails and when they do, all we get are automatic replies with no solution whatsoever.

Konami, can you please help us?

  • Has anyone else tried using the link for the beta community? Everytime I try to log in it just comes up with an error and says I am unable to log in. Similar to a lot of people’s attempts to use the beta itself I guess.

  • Well I just hope for the sake of everything that is simple you do not include the mandatory konami ID + gamer ID login in the final product. Not only does it go against the logic of a unified PSN ID, I also believe the media will have a field day if that happens and I think you would actually be the first game doing so on PS3 (at least to my knowledge.)

If you must, do it like EA. They have a seamless integration into their network. They just create an account, same name and everything, based on your PSN ID. No running to different sites, having to create and login to different accounts BS.

  • As much as I love the beta and the new additions, I have one complaint: I’ve played Sneaking Mode over 30 times, and have yet to be either Snake or Mk. II. I know it’s not significant, but it is pretty irritating to hear your friends talking about how cool being Snake is, when you’ve been playing the mode longer than they have.

  • Will Konami be addressing the 090B error? Or is everyone experiencing that pretty much shafted? Would be nice to at least get some kind of response on that situation :)

  • Everything is good with the beta, love it, EXCEPT FOR the character creation. Why can’t I switch my character items to other colors or change the clothing options, why?? I tried to delete my character but it said that I have to wait 99 days or something like that, WHY!?!?!?!

  • I don’t think Konami will actually address this issue. This morning I sent them a long email explaining the whole situation (routers, DMZ, ISP, etc.), I’ll be lucky if I get something other than “Thank you very much for contacting us. (blah blah blah) The ports (UDP) should be open. (blah blah blah).”

My theory is that: #1 Konami has region-locked the beta, so if you live outside the region you’re trying to connect to, it might not work (it “might”, because it did work for some), or #2 If you haven’t managed to login at the right time (on 04.25), you won’t be able to login at all.

Let’s see if Konami can help us or not.

  • I must say, I’m really enjoying the MGO Beta. I can tell that a lot of thought went into this online part of the game. The sneaking game type is simply great.
I just hope the full version will be using the PSN ID instead of the……well you know what I mean.

Looking forward to the final game

    Thank you

    SPARDA

  • Oh…one more thing… a party system is desperately need for this game

    thanks

    SPARDA

  • I am really enjoying the MGO beta except the installation process and multitude of un-necessary IDs. I also don’t like that while I can add friends to my friend list in MGO they are not also added to my friend list on PSN. Secondly, will you be allowing players to allot more than 4 skill points at some time? I feel like I am being penalized for getting better at skills instead of rewarded because while I may get knife fighting 2 I end up having to get rid of a different skill completely.

  • How many maps are there?? I’ve only been able to two on two maps some blood bath thing and the new map midtown. I have played for about 3 straight hours and no other map has shown up. Is there a reason why or is it just me?

  • I like the camera filters when you use the binoculars to zoom in. Really realistic depth-of-field filters and blurring when you zoom. Nice work!

  • Played it again for a few hours last night. LOVE IT!!! The graphics are top notch and the gameplay work for me great….

I haven’t played or wanted to play an online shooter this much since SOCOM1.

  • 50cmargary
I dont know why that is true.
    im playing it from Argentina.
    66WillBailey
The BETA is not region locked, as i wrote above ,im playing from Argentina.
    Check you internet configuration .

my only concern is :the frame rate. is not ‘solid’ 30 FPS,sometimes go to 60FPS.

Anyway ,i know that the framerate is locked at the optimization phase, and i know that we are not playing the last build.
    Cheers

  • Thanks for the update. I love the little robot. Great addition IMO.

  • First I would like to say that the MGO beta has been absolutely amazing. But my only gripe were the issues with the Konami ID and the fact that you need a Konami ID. Is it not possible for Konami and SCEI to come up with a solution so that you only need a PSN ID?

That way it’s more of an integrated service. I really think SCEI should step up and assist Konami in this respect. Because after all this can be seen as a joint business venture since MGS 4 “is” exclusive to the PS3. It’d be in both your best interests to make the experience as seamless as possible.

    Regards,

  • Fersis > that’s why I said “might”…The truth is, North America and South America may be considered as the same “region”. Did you download it from the US or European store? Believe me, I checked my connection about a 100 times, tried every configuration with the router, IP address, ports, etc.

I have one concern though: if Konami doesn’t address this issue during the beta, when will they address it? Will we be able to play the actual online game when it ships, even if we got the “Unable to connect to server” error?

Someone asked about the “Community” website. I can’t login either, but I figured it was because of the fact that I can’t connect to the server.

  • @X820 And the game speed?
    SUCK
    the game is boring
everybodys running like [DELETED] in there [DELETED]
    sorry its not fun

  • 76WillBailey
So north and South America are one region ?(nice for me)
Ive downloaded the beta client from the European Store since my 12 digit BETA code dont worked at all :(
    Cheers

  • Just checked out the Community site, great job.. It shows your stats amount of hours played etc…sweet….

I think setting something like that is so simple but has great rewards because i know I will be on there at work haha

  • The Konami community page seems to be not working so I’ll post my thoughts here:

Even though the game is spectacular for a Beta, getting our issues heard will pay off in the final version, so this is what In my opinion need to be worked on:

-Faster Man Cannon animation, climbing it is too slow.
    -Tweaking to regional shots:Head,chest,limbs etc
-Some tweaking to the aiming mechanics.
    -More skills please!!!
    -More weapons.
-Unlockables/rewards while you level up. Maybe skills/weapons
-More skill slots to use while you level up(it’s 4 slots for now)
    -Fix the laaaaaag!!

    Thank you : )

  • Nice one ;) Any chance of extending the beta time??? i.e more weeks ;-P

  • hi all. the game is not as good as i though. i think the soldier move too slow as well as the reaction time to shoot. you need to make this a little bit faster. it takes around 2 clips to kill someone sometimes, to me this is not rellistic. as far as graphics and the game idea i think it is good. you just need to make some improvements to the soldier.

  • For those who complains about the game speed… its not suppose to be a shooter or anything like Unreal… its a tactical game so yes its suppose to be slower and smoother…

For my part i really enjoy it, it feels different than all of those common shooters

  • Great, just get rid of that Konami ID already

  • i just want to know if you are going to tie all the ID’s into the PSN?

Sony should tie every thing that has the PS brand on it into the PSN!

  • where’s my comment?

  • Hey guys I only have 9 digits on my DVD insert code, what can I do? I already wrote an email to Konami but nothing yet, this guy said that GAP member will receive an email, but I haven’t received anything, can anyone help me?

  • i can dig it.

    add me

    PSN= wyldekat

  • @konami

Everyone in Puerto Rico with the ISP DMAX or Choice is getting Error (090B:00000001) when trying to log in. Please fix this or/and don’t ignore our emails and tell us what’s going on.

I’ve heard that some with Europe accounts are getting in, but I’m not gonna spend another 30+ hours downloading/updating and making those annoying Konami IDs again just because Konami doesn’t know that PR has been part of the US for over 109 years now….

  • Looks like I’ll be playing the beta a little longer, thanks to Rockstar’s negligence.

  • Brandon Laurino said: “I’m sorry, I wish we had time to respond to each and every one”

Well, Brando, you do not answer at all! I’ve never seen red box with you answer to anyone.

    test test test test test

  • I am really enjoying the beta right now. My question is that as we rank up the levels in the game now in beta, next time when the full game comes out when we play MGO then are we going to start fresh or are the players who already played in beta will start from where they left off ranks???

  • Unfortunately my commrades, I think we’re stuck with Konami id’s for the MGS4 retail release. However, if anyone has any suggestions on what we could do as a unified community…let it be known!

THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS GENTLEMEN

  • I must say I found the game quite tedious and slow at first, but after sticking to it and leveling up my speed skill I have got used to it now and I enjoy the game very much.

My biggest problem is the lack of an official tutorial, some things I have seen people do still confuse me.

  • @Daver im saying just make them run not sprint
    just a tad

  • hey metal gear solid is pimpin but when does the PS3 bunddle w/ MGS4 come out for pre-order?????

    Please help!

  • @95 well, I’m going to buy the game regardless… but I wont be signing on for any online because, well there’s heaps of other games that are less hassle to go online with.

If I was playing MGO I would not buy any DLC unless it came through the PSN. Yet another place I have to store my CC details? No thanks.

  • Hey… there is no new KP Report….

    You tricked me….
