PLAYSTATION Store price parity for Canadian consumers

102 0

It’s been one of the most frequent requests made during every store update in the past year: Many of you have been asking us to bring Canadian pricing more into line with the exchange rate. As SCEA Senior Vice President Peter Dille mentioned in the comments area of his post on April 15th, “we understand the concerns and are looking to correct the discrepancy.” That time has arrived.

I am excited to let all of our Canadian gamers know that we will be adjusting prices for downloadable content available through the PLAYSTATION Store for the Canadian market as a result of the strengthening Canadian currency vs. the US dollar. We’ll be executing the adjustments in a phased approach prior to the regular PLAYSTATION Store update on Thursday. On May 1, prices on all downloadable content should be updated.

We thank you for your support and patience during the time it took to resolve this discrepancy.

  • Well as a Canadian, I’d like to say thank you to the Sony Playstation team.

  • @ 48 Toast
For what exactly? Surely us Canadians aren’t capable of mistake?

    @50 PsychoEddie
Yeop, we decided that would be good to implement before we released our currency in the 1800’s, as everyone else was doing it, we figured our citizens might like that feature as well.

  • maybe you can do something about the one US dollar = two UK pound scam too when selling stuff over here.

recent example GTA IV costing us $100

  • @mobiletone

I believe the price difference is because of the “Halliwell” tariff. A penalty for inflicting the spice girls on the colonies.

  • Thank you, and I can’t wait to buy something on the store tomorrow.

  • About time!!!
That’s excellent news and the feeling of “being ripped off” will no longer have to influence my purchase decisions!

  • It appears that moderators and developers are no longer showing interest enough to make replies on the Blog lately. Hopefully this time I will find a solution to this situation because my patience grows thin. I have yet to receive even the smallest reply indicating interest. It would be nice to know that my loyalty to the SONY brand, as well as the thousands of dollars I spend annually is a little more than nihility.

Please repair this situation quickly if possible, because much time has passed…I don’t believe I should have to endure any further wasted time with this matter.
Clearly due to the extensive troubleshooting steps I’ve taken here; I find this issue can only be rectified server side. I only ask that SONY incur some of the responsibility to assist a devoted customer.

    Thanks!

  • SORRY TO REPOST THIS BUT FOR SOME REASON IT DIDN’T BECOME ADDED PROPERLY:
    =======================================
This was supposed to be the first part but I was having issues getting it to post…not sure why this part didn’t add but here it is anyway. Sorry for the many posts simultaneously everyone.

    Superb!!
Yeah, not ripping off the consumer is definitely a good idea lol…

Pricing should be in accordance with the constant fluctuation of the exchange rates.

    So, good call!
The price corrections won’t even be noticeable to the company.
Customers will simply purchase more now, including myself…if I can ever get the PSN to accept my credit card again that is.

I have a major issue that needs assistance but I can’t seem to get SONY to respond on the Blog or via email. The telephone technical support service is also unable to provide any helpful ideas / solutions, and I am beginning to become choleric. I’ve even sent a letter to the head office, but have yet to hear a single word in return.

If there are any SONY employees monitoring this thread please navigate to: # 405
HERE — https://blog.playstation.com/2008/04/15/inside-playstation-network/comment-page-9/#commentsa…and read my issue.

  • Thank you! Finally.

  • @striplay

…um….dude…you….like…didn’t….like…say….like…what is…like…broken? Dude, you’re all like my stuff is like broken and like nobody is like doing like nothing about it? You might like actually like detail what is like broken, instead of like just complaining about it? But, like whatever dude.

  • @ striplay

I’ve read your rants, and I’m not going to H8 on your situation, you have my sympathy in your dilemna, Sometimes even the slightest mistake in home address listed, even postal code, can cause’ a credit card registry to backfire and lock for an unnanounced amount of time, If I were you, I’d carefully go over any snail mail that the CC company has sent you, and verify that you are typing in the name-number-including CVM-home address-POcode, exactly as you see it, your dilemna is one that I experienced as well, and it was something as simple as an extra space where I didn’t need one.

I’m not sure this is the exact solution for your situation, but I had the same thing happen to me, and it was an easy fix, I just didn’t know it at the time, Hope this helps.

Secondly, If you need to add two cards to one account, I’d suggest creating a second master account for additional purchases, or just switch out like you attempted, I don’t know if/when Sony will release a multi-card interface. Perhaps the best option for you is to link a debit card to the debit option, and pass funds from seconday credit card to the debit account, and use that to purchase as you would have with the second CC.

again I hope I was of assistance, If the problem persists, continue to try to reach Sony, chances are they are just way to busy to tend to everyone atm, and just by mere happenstance you’re either falling through the cracks, or not reaching the proper assistance…

  • @17

We are far more likly to get some sort of response here than we are talking to scee who really have made no attempt to care about anything.

I mean talking to a brick wall would be more helpful than talking to them.

  • GREAT NEWS!!!!!

  • Thank you god!

  • We Canadians not “canucks” finally get some long over due recognition. Thanks for the adjustment. But, what about monies spent in the past 6 months when our dollars were still higher than yours? We gonna get any kick back adjustment? Are we gonna finally have a Canadian PS Store?

How about getting some contests for our PS Underground members of the Northly persuasion?

Either way Thank You, It’s nice to be appreciated once in awhile!

  • Eupean parity is a long way, people really have to change this:

    9.99 EUR – 15.59 USD

No way a store prices not parity all over the world

  • OMG FINALLY, i registered an account just to post this comment.

  • Great news.. although the post isn’t specific. I’m hoping it’s at a 1:1 ratio.

  • Sweet! Just in time for Ecochrome!

  • it says parity, which means 1:1, if you check the exchange rate, 1 CAD buys 1.078 USD…

  • Thanks a lot!!!

QUESTION1: Could you add a comment section under everything in the PSN store for ps3?

QUESTION2: Could you add an option to change users while in a game with a playstation button press? In games like assassin’s creed, we need to quit the game, change user and start the game again.

  • Thanks… now if only there were some quality PS1 games in the store to buy.

  • Thank you very much. PS Store content will be more interesting now :)

  • Thank you. It’s about time :)

  • Thanks so much for this, I have been waiting for this for awhile ever since Peter mentioned it, now we just need to get the Video store up and going which he also said we would here about soon. Also on a side note I was on the store and noticed all rock band songs were $1.99 and thought the change was in place then I checked later and it was back to $2.99 so I think the switch was at least partially thrown too soon. Anyways thanks again much appreciated.

  • Way to go guys, only 5 months after everybody else. Great job.

  • Thank You so much i was concerned when no body responded to my comment a couple days ago about this issue. Yet again SONY did the right thing….maybe a little late….but the right thing so thank you

  • P.S. i know I’m just dreaming here but it would be nice to be credited everything we Canadians overpaid. I know the difference wasn’t much but it adds up in the long run.

  • I just want to thank Sony for not region protecting the games. Now I can purchase TWO PS3 games in the US for the price of ONE in Europe, and I can use the US PSN to not have to wait months to get usually more expensive online components, if at all in some cases. That was probably how you wanted it to work all along, right?

  • Finally! We don’t have to hear from these whining ass canadians anymore.

  • hey ,,, my name is mickel ..
im asking for the playstation stor “online acount“
i live in lebanon … but i forgot my password on my acount i want to make another but they asking for the password of the forgoten acount if you can help me to make a new acount

  • Sony, thank you for listening to us! You are the greatest. Keep up the good work. Thank you for this blog and thank you for a great console!

  • @ 60 (PsychoEddie)

First, you excessively say the word “like” in your post as if I have a habit of over using it. If you read my posts completely, you’d know that my punctuation & grammar is certainly not weak. I make it a point to not over use any word if possible. So, I’d appreciate it if you would refrain from posting insults to those who’ve caused you no harm previously.

Second, clearly you haven’t been paying much attention to my posts. If you had, you would know that I pay more compliments than complain. Generally I will post suggestions and general questions as well. Never have I stated something without explaining the issue as you suggest though.
My last post for some reason wouldn’t post properly thus creating the separation you see.
The two parts are #s 49 & 57 in that order. They were originally intended to be conjoined as one.
Also, being a highly knowledgeable individual; I am usually able to correct most situations without assistance. If I am asking for help there is most likely a good reason.

In the future, I suggest you completely read the entire thread prior to placing your inane comments on record.
    Just a thought!

    Have a good night!

  • @ 61 (Kedaro)

Thanks for your input, it’s much appreciated.
Unfortunately I had already exhausted my patience with all your suggestions previously…as well as many other ideas.

I will take your advice though and continue to try and reach Sony. I realize they are busy (hence the post here) so I will attempt to regain my patience. It’s just so frustrating when you need something accomplished and you can’t even get a response to inform that it’s being reviewed. I was hoping that the Playstation Blog would find some sort of reply and ultimately a resolution.

Thanks again for your kind words of wisdom.
Take care and have a good night!

    Sincerely: stri

  • So happy bout this…

But one last thing to address…

Will Playstation Cards purchased from the US work with people who have Canadian accounts??

  • Good News for Canadians.

    BUT WHAT ABOUT AUSTRALIAN’S.

We are paying about US$10 for a game that costs AMERICAN’S US$5.

    COD4 MAP PACKS – US 9.99 (AUS$10.50)
In Australia it is $15.35 WTF

Given that we almost parity what gives?????????

We are contantly having our pockets over charged.

  • Now that this problem has been addressed I hope Sony extends it to other regions as the price differences on other stores are ridiculously misaligned. Right from the start Sony should have had a global store with regional subsections instead of a mish mash of different prices/content. The regional division and disunity of SCE is a complete anachronism in todays era of globalistation.

Release the US PSN cards pronto too for those people who imported US games and are barred from accessing DLC because the US store does not accept foreign credit cards.

  • wow that’s some great news now all I’m waiting for to buy stuff is to be able to! LOL

Please Sony let us mexicans buy stuff from your really cool store

I mean I got my ps3 a year ago and all I can download are demos and videos (some of them really good BTW) but we can’t buy a single game or add on and we really want to.

Any info would be really appreciated.

    P.S. Congratulations Canada!

  • I’m Canadian so that’s a pretty good news. Thanks a lot! Now everything will cost less!

  • @ 86 read my my post #17, good luck with your quest.

  • Thank you!… I’ll start downloading stuff again!

  • Under the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Sony is prohibited from charging Canadians any taxes, tariffs, or geographically-based surcharges that they aren’t also charging Americans.

Companies like Sony aren’t changing their pricing policies solely to please their customers. It’s very likely that their lawyers have instructed them to do so.

Unfortunately, no such agreement exists between the United States and Australia (or other countries), so Sony has no responsibility to establish fair pricing in those regions (and likely won’t).

  • …of course I’m referring to SCEA, not any other faction of the Sony conglomerate.

  • Im not Canadian, and I don’t live in Canada, but that’s a nice thing from SONY to do!
    Nice SONY, nice!

  • Wow, I’m sorry for answering this late, but I was sick for a couple of days…

Anyhow, thanks! Now I can buy stuff from the store! :)

  • Thank You Sony!

  • Awesome news! Thanks a lot, Grace, and everyone else at PSN. Although I still bought from the Store, you’ve just made me happier!

  • i have a question is the tax charged different for each province or just flat 13%?

  • To 98, there is no tax charged as this ‘store’ is not in Canada, therefore no GST or PST. Post 92 is crediting NAFTA, dunno if that’s valid or not.

To Sony, better late than never, I suppose.

Thanks for fixing this major irritant for we Canadians… sounds like we were just first in line, they’re barking at your doors for similar adjustments elsewhere, what with the US greenback taking a header…
