MGS4 Continues A Year of PS3 Blockbusters

Scott Steinberg's Avatar Posted by

VP of Product Marketing

We know that many PlayStation and Metal Gear fans have been waiting for today, and it was a pleasure to premiere Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to the PS3 software line-up at midnight last night! PlayStation and the Konami team have enjoyed bringing this blockbuster franchise to the PlayStation nation for the last decade, with many of our PlayStation fanbase growing up on the game.

Thanks to PS3’s Blu-ray technology, this is the biggest Metal Gear Solid yet and sets a new benchmark in the gaming industry as the first PS3 game developed on a dual layer Blu-ray disc. This means the Konami team is able to deliver more cutting-edge graphics, more expansive gameplay and more surround sound. Add a DUALSHOCK 3 controller into the mix and you’ll find yourself right in the middle of the action.

PS3 MGS Bundle

For our PS2 enthusiasts, this is a great time to consider upgrading to a PS3 with the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3 80GB bundle ($499), which includes the popular 80GB PS3, a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a DUALSHOCK 3 controller, as well as a free download for the PSN title, PAIN.

With highly anticipated titles such as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Grand Theft Auto IV and SingStar and with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, this is only the beginning of an ongoing software avalanche for PS3 that includes titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 that only PS3 owners will be able to exclusively enjoy. We look forward to your feedback on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Kenshin001 – I completely agree, and thanks for backing me up! It does seem weird and yes this blog is UScentric. However flogging all the old 40gb ps3/controller’s to their 2nd biggest market seems a bit well CRAZY!

To be fair PS will win the console war and there was no doubt about it – however if things were done right, they would currently have a larger market share, and the way Europe have been treated can’t stop me thinking that loyal consumers way decide to go else where come next gen consoles. And to be honest IF Metal Gear was multi-platform i would have definately gone Microsoft’s way, without question. However Metal Gear is an exclusive to PS, and therefore I duly think Europe’s loyalty to Sony should be rewarded with 80 gb Bundles/Grey PS3’s – but no we still get 40 gb charging $600 a pop, and with a controller with no rumble.

So yeah i’m a little pissed – but it’s my loyalty to Metal Gear (Konami) that is making me buy a PS3 not loyalty to Sony, because that went out the window a long time ago, along with about 10 million other people in Europe.

We’ll just have to wait and see I guess :-(

I agree with you 100% as well. I think that if people don’t jump on this opportunity now, later they will be complaining when it is no longer available.

But hopefully people will realize that great opportunities like this aren’t around forever. So they should get it while the getting is good. :)

Uncharted gave me a good feel on what a current generation console game should be like.
Yesterday, MGS4 took it to the next level for me.
Once LBP, Socom and the R2 and Home start rolling out later this year, the PS3 will be in a class of its own.

mendezgato said:

why is it that people can stay on topic, this is mgs4 bundles related, not complaint about rpg’s how would you like it if i start complaining about gas prices, or why are blueray movies $30.00 instead of $15.00. it wouldn’t make much sense, and is annoying

I’m not being funny mate – but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of off-topic now and then, it was only a suggestion, that I really want to play this game, but can’t due to us being fu@ked over in the arse.

If your getting tired of the offtopic whining, then start your forum, because everywhere you go, your going to get a bit of whining. Where else on the net can you make your opinion heard? Thats what forums/suggestion boards are for!

If you don’t like it, then don’t read it, scroll down to the next post, nobody is forcing you to read it!!!

You know, I really would love to buy this new PS3 bundle. I would be so happy to give you my money for it. However Sony seem to have a problem with Europe and the UK. Not only can we not buy this console but we can’t even get our hands on a 60GB console, never mind the 80GB version. I fail to see why Sony won’t release this bundle in the EU. You might as well be turning down a tonne of console sales, for no good reason. I’m disappointed, really.

I justed wanted to say thanks to Kojima Productions for created such a truly amazing game, and thanks to Sony for keeping it exclusive to the PlayStation. I hope that this will be the start of a trend of outstanding exclusives for the system. Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game franchise and I think that when all is said and done, MGS4 will take the spot as my favorite game in the series. I was honestly blown away when I first popped it in, and that keeps happening every time I take a break and start playing again. It’s one hell of a gaming experience.

Anyone who is STILL on the fence about getting a PS3 has absolutely NO reason NOT to get one now.

1) Backwards compatibility is back for PS2 games

2) Dual Shock 3!!

3) Metal Gear Solid 4!!!

4) I paid $600 for a 60gb without 2) & 3) in 2006, at $500 this is a GREAT DEAL

Kudos to Sony and Konami for this bundle. I’ve been playing games for 20+ years. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a MASTERPIECE.

Mind-blowing. That’s what Metal Gear Solid 4 is, a masterpiece. Forget top-notch graphics and sound, the presentation is pure epic. The first 5 minutes will not just amaze, it will shock you. Everyone I have spoken with says they were blown away by the intro sequence and it does not stop there. You almost don’t want to take control of Snake, but rather watch the beautifully constructed story unfold in front of you on its own.

Everyone needs to experience this epic journey.

MGS4 is Hideo Kojima’s best production yet.

Thank you, Kojima Productions. Thank you, Konami. Thank you Sony. Most of all, thank you Hideo.

This is not next-gen gaming; this is the new millennium of gaming.

I have a question? When the post for MGS4 first posted it talked about the Bundle pack that came with it….the posted talked about a limited addition MGS4 gun metal gray version…..Now when i went to pick up the limited bad ass gum metal gray P3 the people at game stop advised me that there is no gun metal ps3 and Sony decided to not make a 80gb gun metal gray (huh?)but a 120 is in the works, but heres the kicker i use PSB for my source of info about the PS3 i Swear it was the most accrued info going, but since tht happened i dont trust your sit info……I do like my PS3 no Complaints ther but why the wrong info?

SaintX said:

June 13th, 10:42 am

The Gun Metal PS3 bundle is a VERY limited bundle and it Definitely EXISTS. The gamestop guy has obviously got it wrong. The Gun Metal bundle is so limited that i doubt you can get hold of any now. It used to be available on the Konami website and a few other places. It was sold out in a matter of minutes. I bet that Gamestop guy couldn’t get one of his own. I think Gamestop doesn’t even sell the Gun Metal PS3. I am pretty damn sure that the PSB doesn’t give out wrong info. Do your research first before posting up such a comment on PSB

Hey guys and gals. Really enjoying MGS4, just picked it up last night and played basically the first level before going to bed w/out saving. Starting off fresh eyed tonight. Looks like an awesome bundle, too bad I already have a launch 60gb.

My question is though, are we going to see white DS3 controllers in the states? I want to pick one up, but I’d really like a white(sans shipping fees).

Would those of you claiming Sony owes you a 2.4 update and believe it includes in-game XMB and other such features please cite the Sony source that said such a thing would happen?

If you can’t, its called a rumour, and when it doesn’t happen, you shouldn’t be shocked or complain about it. Why do you think Apple’s always been so hard on so-called ‘leaks’ with their products over the years?

If you want a feature, feel free to say so, but don’t claim Sony owes you something or that they dropped the ball or screwed up somehow when they made you no promises.

maluraq said:

June 13th, 11:02 am

@barom: it may very well be that MGS4 made you buy a PS3, but MGS4 as it is now wouldn’t exist if the PS3 weren’t available to make it on in the first place.

A smaller version might have been made anyway, with lower quality audio or graphics for another system, but THIS MGS4 is due to the PS3’s power. That’s not arrogance, that’s just the truth.

If you have done your research then why is it that you think that the Gun Metal PS3 doesn’t exist while the fact is that it does exist! Well you post it on this blog so anyone who is a registered member has the right to comment back whether you like it or not, you don’t have to get all fired up about it. Chill mate.

I may sound like I’m copying every other post on here verbatim, but I agree. MGS4 is one of the greatest games I’ve had the pleasure to play and be a part of.

Well deserved praise for Kojima-san, Konami and Sony on making it happen exclusively on the PS3!

SaintX said:

June 13th, 12:58 pm

well my reading is perfectly fine. If you want to talk about language then maybe you should look at yours first. You seriously need some comprehension class as you can’t even write a proper comment and you definitely need some spelling class. Heck you cant even spell the words correctly. And besides, what do you mean by no one is talking to me? i do not expect anyone to reply to my comment because i was not the one who asked any question. It seems that no one is replying to your question. That is very sad indeed. Well one word of advice, you don’t have to release your frustration and anger on me as no one reply to your question. As this is a blog for playstation fans looking to find information and news on the playstation, i shall stop arguing with you as this is disrespecting the people involved in this blog. Therefore, i shall apologize to this wonderful for blog for my actions and also to you Courvoisiea. We are all in the same team in this console war which is to support the PlayStation brand and to crush Xbox.

On behalf of Malaysian gamers, I would like to thank Konami, Hideo Kojima and his crews for producing such a beautiful and phenomenal game that saying MGS4 is a great game is an UNDERSTATEMENT. Words are not enough to describe how fantastic this game is.
Majority of Malaysian supports the Playstation!

What about Europe Sony?We Europeans want to have the option to buy a 80Gb with retrocompatibility.I assure you if you introduced back that SKU the PS3 sales would increase dramatically ,many people are holding out for that one.

If you fix that ,release the 2.40 and get some JRPG (MS is owning us bad!) all be perfect.
