A new PLAYSTATION 3 firmware update (v2.36) will be launching soon, improving system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles. We’re also happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include “XMB” access in-game. The update will also include “trophies,” an exciting new feature that we’ll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements. We’ve talked about some of this on the blog previously and know that many of you can’t wait to get your hands on these features. You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly.

I am certainly grateful for the news that this update is coming, but I think we all surmised that it was. The official word however does put our pounding hearts to rest, but is that really a good thing? Sony please give us some info on this, there is nothing wrong with giving us a heads up on what’s coming, it keeps us interested. So many people I know are saying they don’t even care anymore and….I am getting there too.
we where off line for about 6 hours yesterday and everyone thought for shore that this ment the unvailing of the update 3.40, so really… we’ve been waiting Please just let us know when will the update become a working thing on our PS3’s.

Hopefully they’ll give us a “release date” on v2.40 at E3. Also, for most of the speculation out there they said “Summer” will see the light of v2.40. That could mean, next summer, the summer after…etc. But then again Summer can mean Winter where as Spring is Fall where *Home* takes place. Finally, maybe Sony will sit back on there “Exclusive” lineup of games this year and forget about v2.40.

Now if you could tell us Sjspunisher where you got this info. from,i would say that wouldn’t make any sence, considering the fact that when they usually release info on a new Firmware on this BLOG it’s due to come out within the first two weeks…now this was posted June 17, and Today is the 26th. Assuming that what ive just said is accurate than it should be out within the next five days I Would think the latest possable…UM…July 1st……………….
Im Pretty sure thought that they’ve got plenty of othere stuff to release at E3 by the way E3 premeires July 14 and goes to the 17th.

So? Ill tell you why so Pohlio. It would mean that sony built up anticipation for an entire month before releasing the firmware!Whats the point in waiting till E3 and making a big deal out of something that should already be implemented in the first place? If this is truelly the case (and I may stand alone on this opinion) I would have rather delt with 2.40 info just being a “Rumor” and then sony simply confirm the actual firmware 2 or 3 days before it releases. Then we get the infamous “You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly” Yeah… Shortly as in A WHOLE FREAKEN MONTH!!!
As far as im concerned the only true confirmation that we can stick to is that 2.40 is definetly coming this summer.
personally I don’t think there’s that much of a reason to announce it at E3. All the people who want it already know about it and will download it as soon as it is available. And there really isn’t any reason to make a big deal about it to the whole world when this is something the competition already has. Anybody see what the advantage to announcing it at E3?Cause I don’t.

Another thing to look forward to is that, there will be a video walkthrough this monday (from a neogaf insider) on v2.40.
So maybe the firmware will co-release with it that week.
Alongside that, that E3 sh*t is complete bogus, they can’t make money off displaying XMB. Rather they would introduce a presentation of the PSN Video store.

The walkthrough will most likely be done by Grace Chen and will follow through as the playstation store revamp (we had before) with an online video guide.

I hope that there’s multiple sigh in and gamer cards, but not only that, but i hope that the trophie system is deep and rich just like in the rumors describes. Good job sony!and thank you eric for the post it made my day.

@wolfbon: well ya id rather have it confirmend like that. but when they did do it v2.36 came out, id expect to wait at least a month for another up date.
Just want to say that if we do get the trophy support soon. please make sure there is a way for the system to know whether or not the save was generated on that particular system, otherwise you WILL see people exploit trophies by using other people’s save data. I DONT want to see save data locked away inside the system so that you cant transfer them (this would annoy many many people) but at the very least it should be impossible to gain rewards for other people’s actions.
I’ve got a little prediction for the release of some stuff, as well you all might but I0 was just viewing a video from early 2007 on playstation “HOME” and as they said it was anticipated for release FALL 07 as we all know unless your stuck in the past its way past fall 2007, I was noticing the implemented trophie system and how it all worked…this trophie system is said to be on this next Firmware 2.40, now the release date for this is next month sometime during E3 so they say now to the point, I beleive that in this release of firmware, that no less than a couple of days later should “HOME” come out, Now this is just a prediction but I hope this to be true…and does anybody know anything about this new system chip that PS3 is supposed to be releasing in the new systems, its suposed to be an updated Graphics Chip?…I wonder if this will effect the way the games are produced and how they will work on the previous PS3 Graphic chips…?
@rccola06 if and when a particular demo for a game comes out it’s usually earlier that month or a the previous month. so if there’s a demo expect it around September.
as for the Home release, open beta will be out Fall ’08, as of the April press release. and they’re opening the closed beta a little more this summer.
By E3 you should know everything there is about upcoming releases.

well hannaluva even thought the 360 is “copying”(stealing) the wii’s & ps3’s ideas/system functions these 2 fine japanese companies aren’t going to be major [DELETED] and steal right from the 360. they’d like to make it 4 them selfs so its not stealing.
