Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database on the way!

Brandon Laurino's Avatar Posted by Executive Producer, Dust 514

Hi all – Firstly, we’d like to thank you for helping us make the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots a tremendous success, with a special thanks to the many of you who attended our midnight launches to support it. It was great to meet so many of you in person, and the some of the MGS related costumes were truly spectacular. We had a lot of fun, and we hope you did too.

Of course, the launch of MGS4 is just the beginning – with it now in your hands, surely you are finding that there is much to discover within the game itself. It’s packed with so much, in fact, that there is bound to be new revelations, strategies, and details in the coming months as everyone makes their way through every nook and cranny. Add in Metal Gear Online, with its endless and deep multiplayer game play, as well as new downloadable content forthcoming – there is truly so much more to come, with our continued support of MGS, that will extend well through this year.

With that, we are happy to reveal a very special surprise, upon the PLAYSTATION Store update tomorrow (Thursday June 19th) we will be releasing the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database!

Metal Gear Solid 4 Database

The MGS4 Database is a free, downloadable interactive application that contains the official knowledge base of everything that is Metal Gear, reaching all the way back to the very beginning of the franchise. Including complete storylines, character profiles, relationship diagrams, and much more! The MGS4 database is a great way to catch up for someone new to Metal Gear, as well as a useful resource for any veteran of the series, with complete official details on every aspect of the intricate Metal gear lore.

The MGS4 Database also contains a special feature – if you want to make use of the database, but have not yet fully played through MGS4 yet and are worried about spoilers – all MGS4 spoilers are “blacked out” until you’ve beaten MGS4. Give it a try!

But that’s not all, within MGS4, check out the EXTRAS option of the main menu (if you haven’t already). There’s already new, free downloadable content available for the game – with new camouflage and a new music track for the in game iPod. There will be more forthcoming, so be sure to check this often!

Is it possible that in a future update Konami might get rid of that Konami login cough mistake cough. Was surprised to see it in the final version after all the backlash it received in the press during beta.
Onto the topic, this is a really good idea, great work. Thanks.

I never got much into MGS franchise but MGS4 is the best game i have ever play i think.. and even with that i understood the story, sure i might not have understood it like a veteran of the franchise but i did and it was very good!
All that to say that you dont need to have followed every MGS before trying out the 4th.
Congrats again!!!

I love info and I love MGS4. So a MGS4 info smorgasbord is something to truly enjoy.

Awesome news

I’m hoping someone can explain this to me. Is there any particular reason(s) for Konami choosing to go with a Konami ID & game ID as opposed to using the PSN ID we have for MGO? Will these separate IDs not interfere with any awards/trophies that are to come after the firmware update (meaning, will they show up under my PSN ID)?

Great work! This looks like it’ll be pretty cool. Next on the agenda should be putting some classic Metal Gear/Solid (1,2,3) titles on the PSN. Thanks

@ marcandrer [49]

Well seeing that he said that after MGO, im guessing he is talking about the expansion pack in July.

Plus, DLC for MGS4’s SP would just kill the epic experience, in my opinion.. :S

PS- Jeff, you just love Hannah Montana dont you. Everytime you reply to tearsofash you mention how lovely his avatar is… Pretty soon you’ll have to steal it for yourself, huh?

@ ChateauDlf [51]

Whoa!! Nice. O_O

This is such a great idea. As a gamer who is, as you said, a veteran to the series, I love the idea, and my gf, who is interested in learning about the series is excited as well. Thanks so much for doing something like this! It’s nice to have little extras like this for such a great series.

Brandon, this is without a doubt the coolest thing to hit the PSN so far (in my opinion). Thank you for providing this for us Metal Gear fans and I hope other companies take notice. This is what sets the PSN and PS3 apart from other services and systems.

I’m a huge Metal Gear fan since the beginning and can’t wait to use this interactive application.

Thanks again!

I’m sure MGO is great.

I wouldn’t know seeing as how ONLY ONE CHARACTER IS ALLOWED PER CONSOLE. Only my little brother has been able to play.

Works great for multi-user PS3s. I just love being forced to pay an extra $7 on top of the $60 I already spent. It’s even better when I don’t have the credit card necessary to do so.

Now THIS is how you treat hardcore fans! Excellent! I’m in the middle of playing MGS and have already had quite a few…hazy recollections of what went down in previous ones. This will help tremendously! Konami, you’ve ruined it for companies like EA…now the next time they offer downloadable throw back jerseys for a fee, I’ll spit on the disc and mail it back to them!

Sentry said:

@ SantanaClaus89 [77]

Actually, thats not ON topic at all. :P But seriously, people whine and complain about in-game XMB, then they confirm it for summer, and confirm again, saying its coming soon (we are in summer), and people still have the nerve! XD

Seriously though, just be patient and wait a week or so…

Is there anyway you guys can make a solid eye and put the data base in that? LOL, seriously though thats a good thing you guys will be releasing a database because this is the first time of me playing the series and I gotta say the new one is epic!

cmargary said:

June 18th, 6:08 pm

They don’t stop to maze me… the only problem with MGS4 with some ps3 users to buy the game is that they don’t know the story of the series and fear to buy the game to fear lost…

Good move…

OMG it’s such a hassle to play MGO. Why are there so many steps? That’s not cool at all!

Besides that. The game is totally amazing!

Jeigh said:

June 18th, 6:23 pm

Sweet! :D

Hopefully this doesn’t have a timeframe to take advantage of those extras, ’cause I don’t want to put my Day One LE MGS4 in until I’ve finished the first three.

I look forward to reading the sales statistics on this- I expect it will be very good news.

SpazzyNate said:

June 18th, 6:23 pm

Sweet!! This is GREAT news, as I have never really played any of the past MGS games. I have been reading various forums to get the back ground on the story, so I feel I have a good grasp on everything that is going on. I am currently on my second play through of MGS4, and it’s making a lot more sense now, after reading up on the story. This will definitely help confirm/deny what I already know, or think I know!

THANK YOU KONAMI!! THANK YOU SONY!!
