Hello again, everyone! Very recently, we demonstrated a major new function enabled in PLAYSTATION 3 firmware v2.40: XMB access in-game. But that’s only part of the story, as the next system software update also introduces the Trophy system to the PS3. This video demonstration shows the system in action.
Super Stardust HD, a PLAYSTATION Network-exclusive released in June 2007, will be the first game to leverage Trophies and will offer a variety of trophies. Trophy support in Super Stardust HD will be available for first-time users who purchase the game soon after firmware v2.40 is released, while those who previously purchased and downloaded the title will be prompted to install a free patch.
PS3 users can expect to see additional games bringing Trophies support to their feature sets through 2008 and beyond, providing even greater opportunity to showcase their accomplishments and compete with friends. The following first-party games are also slated to offer Trophy support:
- BUZZ! Quiz TV
- LittleBigPlanet
- MotorStorm Pacific Rift
- NBA 09 – PS3
- PAIN
- PixelJunk Eden
- Resistance 2
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
- Warhawk
To further emphasize the community aspects of this system software update, the amount of people you can add to your PSN friends list has been doubled, to 100.
The update also adds a mini-control panel that you can use while playing music and an internet search feature powered by Google that allows you to initiate search directly from the XMB (similar to what we added to the PSP recently). In addition, when you’re using the XMB or accessing the XMB from in-game, the current time and date will be displayed in the upper right hand corner. There are a few more minor enhancements included in this update, once the update is live you’ll be able to read about them here.
Firmware v2.40 will become available for download on July 2nd. We hope you enjoy these much-requested features, and look forward to your feedback.
Ive a problem trying to download 2.40
… I got on mgs4…. said it had to update to play online so i did…it was 2.40.
I couldnt finish the download so i cancled it…… came back home from work and like…..its saying 2.36 is the latest version, no need to update
….So like…..wtf?
could you tell me which games have trophies in the present? and when warhack is going to have trophies?……………
What a waste of time, HEY SONY, this is not a game machine for 8 year olds.
You should be working on turning the ps3 into the media/gaming center, you have everything you need but the software.

Well just having the one game at launch to support trophies as seen me go out and buy Super Stardust and it’s expansion packs. Nice work Sony on that. Maybe if you patched another game like Folklore or Lair, it would see sales shoot sky high. Ilook forward to games like Pain, Uncharted and Warhawk recieve updates but it’s disappointing to see games like Resistance 1, Ratchet & Clank and Call of Duty 4 not get the same treatment.
Furthermore, I can appreciate the arguments about retroactive trophies, I would like there to be a way to reward people who have legitimately got their trophies. I would love to see what my time in GTA IV, MGS4 and Uncharted would get me in trophies.
Another thing to take notice on fixing the FANTASTIC update (keep up the good work guys) I noticed something changed as far as bluetooth headsets go…for instance, I can do a video chat just fine, however, in a game the earpiece works, but the mic will not. This has happend on several occasions, and I must reset the system to get the headset working again. Headset worked fine before the update, I am using a Jabra BT350. Also volume changed dramaticaly, I need to re-do all my headset volume settings in all my games. Other than that…no problems. Thanks SCEA!

What’s the point? The games that support this Trophies features are arcade games and games that I don’t like. Plus there are only a few games. If MGS4 or COD4 or games like that supported Trophies, I would love it!
all this trophy talk is makin me sick. who cares. seriously, how about makin legs for the ps3 so it can walk my dog? really, there are bigger and better things you guys could be doing to the system to make it the best thing ever.

What good is this update if half the developing community is saying they will not support this for games that have been already released? Sony needs to make this mandatory if not this is going to be like every other functionality added to the PS3 Sixaxis, basically not used in any new games. PSEye only used well in Singstar. Dropping the ball every step of the way Sony. Are some people getting fired over this mess?
i have an UK PSN account with an PAL console with an NTSC uncharted game just wondering will the trophy still unlock on my PAL PS3 console?
XBox live is soon to be no longer the only thing Xbox got, Becides the lame-o halo, and after seeing a video on Home, i can defantaly say that it’s gonna be better than Live, but ya know Xbox is gonna copy PS3 and because of the cool bright green X on the system, morons will think it’s better… like really, there gotta be better uses for network spaces and CD making material, then the xbox

You’re just another biased fanboy dedicated to the idea that PS3 is the best system ever. Have you TRIED xbox live? It works great with almost none of the nasty lag of PSN.
