Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

There is nothing wrong with 2.41 I had 2.40 when it was out for a few hours and it ran fine then I updated to 2.41 and still nothing. I play COD4 and have no lag issues or freezing. Don’t know what it could be for the ppl having the problems unless its network port errors or your router. Loss of connection between games can crash the game.
Anyone else having the laggy XMB problem after installing 2.41? The XMB lags when I’m not even running a game. It’s like it doesn’t register the controller inputs. Anyone have solutions?
did you reset the ps3? when you turn it on hold down the power button untill it beeps a few times. You will have to reset your resolution and a few other settings but try that. Only other thing I heard about to try is backup your savegames and format the harddrive.

I’ve been seeing a lot of issues posted about all kinds of things, from bricked systems to lagging. Below are a few questions I would personally like to see answered here.
1. I’m no expert but shouldn’t someone be either confirming or denying some of these issues?
2. I see way too many off topic post on this discussion that should be deleted. Is this discussion being moderated at all or should I be going somewhere else to get the most accurate and up to date information? If so where should I go?
3. This is the main reason why I am writing. My PS3 will no longer play PS2 games. My girlfriend was in the middle of Parapa the Rapper and she was looking really cute singing along with the game. Now I’m stuck watching reruns of Sex in the City with her. Can anyone PLEASE HELP! Has anyone else had this issue? (the PS2 game issue not the Sex in the City Issue)

thank you sony for making my ps3 better and better since the yr and a half ive had it. absolutely no issues EVER! and thanks for fixing the dts ma decoding issue with this update!
The fact of the matter is that 2.40 was causing limited issues for some people and 2.41 was created to fix those issues. Now 2.41 is giving some people different issues and Sony needs to tell us that they’re working on 2.42 to rectify these new problems.
I’ve never had to call SONY before and I’ve been a loyal costumer since the Walkman. Is it going to be like all other costumer service lines where they have preloaded answers and the person who answers the phone has no idea about anything related to the prodcut you are calling about???
Has anyone called about 2.41 and recieved an acceptible response??

Actually there are alot of post here trying to help people. Most peoples problems with online game and lag is their ISP or their port mappings. Maybe they updated something with the Ethernet port that fixed port issues and you never forwarded the right ones. Nothing changed for me between 2.40 and 2.41 I have a release 60GB model. A bunch of people that said they had the issues with the XBM being slow said they backed up their saves and formatted the hard drive and it was fine again. As for PS2 discs not loading that is strange does it read blu-rays still?
I also have 60g. I haven’t had any issues with anything else except the PS2 games. I tried testing some PS3 games and even played Tekken online just fine (well at least with no more than the usual lag). I also watched some DVDs last night.

Tekken online is on your hard drive do any blu-ray dics work movie or game?
I slightly remember someone telling me something a while ago about something like the circuits or ram or something doubles every so often. maybe thats the problem. maybe it was too big of a step too fast. maybe that’s why the XMB is lagging. maybe (and I know some people aren’t going to be happy if this is the case) we need to wait awhile.
Just a brief comment, as I’ve seen some posts people wanting Sony to update the Flash player.

Today, my work laptop…I got a msg to update Adobe…clicked it and guess what ?
It was a virus….wiped the machine clean.
Just back from the office, as they had to replace the harddrive.
I’m fine with what Sony has out now and sure not gonna click on any Adobe update again !
I tried unplugging my PS3 and plugging it back in but no luck. XMB will not come up. Firmware 2.41 SUCKS!

I played GH3 and COD4 with no problems what so ever. I haven’t noticed any issues with anything else either. Not even the XMB.
I can’t find anyone else with the PS2 game issue so I may have to call SONY after all. But if anyone else has this issue or knows how to resolve it, please let me know. I’ll keep you guys posted on what SONY lets me know on any 2.41 info.
I noticed someone posted something about not being able to turn off their control. Incase they haven’t figured it out yet, just keep the PS button pushed down and the old screen should pop up with the same options as pre 2.41.

well i call the playstation people and they were no help they just told me to send it in but on the good news I fixed it myself. all i did is save my data game files, movies, and music, to flash drives and did a “restore ps3 system” under sysrem settings. after that everything worked properly with the new update. I think when the update occored it did not completly get rid of the older one so the system had a conflict with the programming. ttyl
“flexito” about the ps2 games. I was told my some of the workers at bust buy that only the 80g ps3 is backwords compatible.
I’ll try the system restore tonight before I make the call. Hopefully its that simple. Your problems sounded much worse than mine. If your system is ok mine should be golden after the restore.
I may be confused about the exact amount of Gs but I know I have the 1st version of the PS3. I got it at launch and its suposed to be the only version that is completely backwards compatible. Something about having the actual hardware not just an emulator. I’m not too sure about that but I just replayed the entire MSG3 last month to get ready for MSG4 so I know it was working fine. GGCAN, after the 2.41 update and the messed up HDMI signal problems, I reset the PS3 using the power button method and the System settings. I still have the same problem. I went back to component cables and e-mail Sony about the issue. I been at work all day, so I have not had a chance to research online to see if anyone else has had a problem with the HDMI signal on the PS3.
thor17usa….I have the HDMI cables connected after 2.41 and it’s working ok.
Hopefully it will work for you too.
Maybe go to the Setting panel and see if 2.41 didn’t change the HDMI settings there.
I’ve seen some people have Settings change when doing an update.
Settings….Display Settings, Video Output Settings to HDMI…If I press the HDMI….it is set to Automatic.
Also have RGB Full Range HDM1 (Full)
YbPb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White HDM1 On

Sorry…for the first one where I said Video Output Settings to HDMI…if I press HDMI select Custom…and there….tick off what your TV is capable of outputting..
The have:
480P
720P
1080i
1080P
tick each one that your TV can output.
Note some of the 720P will not display if you tick the 1080P…they are only capable to output 1080i.
Give it a shot.

Has anyone been having problems with your headset not picking up any sound when you switch to the ingame XMB and back? Everytime I answer a message mid game and I have a mic on, I come back to the game and I can’t hear anyone. Usually when I restart my PS3, that fixes the problem but as soon as I do the in game XMB again, the same thing happens. Also, is there some type of list that shows what developers are making patches that would implement the new features of the new system update? I’d really like to pop a cap in someone on GTA 4 while listening to some old Tupac! Somebody help please, this crap is getting old!!!
ok first of i just wante dto say that i never experienced any problesm with my ps 3 till 2 days ago after the 2.41 update the2.40 update did not give me any problems at all and now this 2.41 is giving me nothing but problems from lagging in the game to disconnecting me while im playing and not letting me reconect.i looked at my modem to see if that was it and there is nothing wrong with it because well if there was i would not be able to write this the signal on my modem its still at a green light wheni get disconnectedand this has happened with not just call of duty 4 but with the orange box game as well so its not the games its the damn 2.41 update that messed up my ps3 now could i get some type of answer on what sony its going to do about this or should we the custumers that paid 500 dollars or more take this a step further? i honestly think this problem should be resolved i also tried the turning on and off thing and still i have the same problems so sony WHATS THE DEAL??????????? THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY SIGNAL ON MY PC MODEM AND I STILL GET DISCONECTED EVEN THOUGH ALL THE LIGHTS ARE GREEN ON MY MODEM AND I GET LAGGING ON MY GAMES I DIDNT HAVE THAT PROBLEM WHEN I HAD THE 2.40 UPDATE AND NOW I DO THIS STARTED THE SAME DAY I UPDATED
Well i wanna say thanks for the update 2.40 worked awesome on my machine all games. As of yesterday my 2.41 locks up on me in the web browser as well as trying to play custom ranked online games in grid. I have no complaints as i have other games that work fine(and will play them). Just a heads up in case anyone else is having this problem hopefully can get it solved. im patient and have faith in the brand. so hopefully my 12¿¿ hundredth post gets somewhere. PSN PSYCHO-MAGNET

I updated my ps3 to 2.41 a soon as it was available because i never thought that SONY could fail two updates but it is the case.
I have no more sounds in my ps3, no sound in game no mp3 playing no BD sound.
I’m really wondering why in game xmb? while in xmb mode we can’t play.
Why do we need such a feature ?
Anyway the result is: My console is not useful any more.
where is the 2.42 which will solve our issues ?
How many times to people have to say all they did afterwards to fix any issues was to restore the ps3 system or to format the hard drive try that first then complain lol.
oneamra did you check your sound settings firmware updates can put them to defaults that you may not have connected for output. If not you are the first person I heard of to have that problem.
I have not been able to resolve the issue with the PS2 games. I’ve emailed consumer services but no reply yet. Does anyone have the actual phone number to call???

Just goto playstation.com select your reigon then click support up top next to news forums and what not. On that page down the right side is a box that says service in that box is says find out how to obtain service after that read the pages hopefully you still have a valid proof of purchase.

I have the original 60GB model. I’ve had it since Dec 2006. I still have the reciept along with the extended warranty(I think that is expired by now)
I’ve never had any issues what so ever with my PS3 or any Sony product I have ever purchased until now.
A PS3 that doesn’t play PS2 games is like a cell phone with no text messeging.
I’ll have to wait to make the phone call tonight when I am next to the system. I’ll definately keep you guys posted.
Does anyone know what games have trophies and if they do will they tell you how to go about getting them?

Have been reading a few posters saying that Sony has asked for money for a bricked PS3….well go over to PS3 Fanboy and if it’s true….it’s free (It was posted July 10/08):
Some unfortunate readers had their systems bricked by firmware 2.40. A PR representative from SCEA has informed us that they will fix your PS3 system for free if you were one of the few unlucky enough to have a bricked system. How’s that for customer service?

Just got off the phone with SCEA. No waiting and the rep(Alen) was actually new what he was talking about. I’m impressed. he has not come accross anyone with any PS2 game problems and also mentioned that Sony has not officially confirmed any problems with 2.41.
He suggested restoring the system to default (just the settings not the PS3 restore that erases everything). I’m not home right now but when I get there I’ll try it out.
