PS3 System Software Update (v2.41)

1,366 0

Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.

We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

so sony.. wat about the rumors about movie downloads? =]

  • Great work – you effort, and probally a lot of programmers overtime, is greatly apprecitated. Keep up the great work.

Does complaining the XMB is “slow” sometimes – the game is running in the background – so if you pause the game first if will often give you better “in-game XMB” performance. I think all games should automatically pause like SSHD does.

  • Mine since 2.40 has been maybe 20% of the time not loading the movie/game i put in after launching it, and if it does load normally the game freezes after a bit within 30 minutes. I can exit out of the game and then it beeps at me and restarts the ps3 and doesn’t come back up to the main menu, and i have to turn it off in the back.

  • When is the Super Stardust HD patch going back up?

  • wonderful. Now if I could only earn trophies on SSHD :) Will they be re-releasing the trphy patch anytime soon?

  • RelentlessRolento

I saw you changed the platinum trophies as well guys. it use to be a crown, and now it’s literally a platinum trophy.

We’re really scrapping the bottom of the barrel with the resident 360 owners tonight.

supersnake, either do a better job making up fake ‘my PS3 died’ stories or give it a rest and scamper back to teamxbox.com.

  • THank you very much for that, 2.40 was good and 2.41 is even better thank you guys a lot.

has the super stardust patch v4.0 been re-released yet

  • @ Onna76_NL

that’s my problem… aside from SSHD there aren’t any other games to get trophies for yet… I already got all but 2 of the SSHD trophies nearly a week ago. Aside from the expansion trophies but I’m not planning on buying that just for some more trophies… and SSHD to the best of my knowledge is the only game supporting trophies atm.

As you mentioned, other [few] games will be offering a patch but that still leaves nothing as of now. I would have loved to see Uncharted been available w/ patch when 2.4 was released because last week I had a week or nothing to play and wanted to play Uncharted again…

Matter of fact, I don’t mean to sound like I’m complaining because I’m not. Trophies needed to be implemented and I’m glad we finally got them. But more games should have been ready for trophy support when 2.4 went out last week. They should have had Uncharted, Warhawk, SSHD [which is] and perhaps a couple others all available w/ patch for trophy support…

And I’m thinking starting in August all games will have trophy support but I’m asking if perhaps Sony can confirm that from August out all games will or be required to. Trophies are a requirement for PS3 games but when will this take effect? If not all in August perhaps all from Sep out. Obviously by August if not all some games should have trophy support but when can I expect all [new] games to have trophy support?

as to the Infinity Ward question. Yeah, I’m a bit puzzled. The PS3 supports CoD4 by scooping up millions of copies and yet there’s no trophy support. I can see no rumble support patch, but considering the sales IW should at least take the day to patch CoD4 w/ trophies. But at the same time I can also understand their decision. They should but the fact of the matter is that a lot of developers should but won’t…

  • put out the patch for SSHD already…geez

  • I believe this was not even really necessary, the amount of bricked PS3’s must be very small because I don’t know any case of brick among my PS community (portugal). Anyway this is a nice time to remember people to make a backup their precious game-saves…

  • i too, would like to know when the stardust team pack will be available for download? any word?

  • 2.40 is awesome !

  • Very cool now all my friends can text each other from within the game. Wohoo

  • Yea any word on Stardust?

  • I’m glad it has been fixed and quickly too, thank you Sony. *I think it’s a record on the quickness of fixing the problem* *Yes, to the non-believers the Xbox360 too had a firmware update in it’s life that bricked some peoples consoles when they put out the patch for everything to be 1080p*

  • Eric, PSN overlords, could you please make more of an effort to provide a more detailed changelog for each FW/OS release ?

Stealth updates are nice, but sometimes a more complete changelog would be even nicer.

  • This firmware fixed the wave screen hang that I was having with my 60GB hard drive. Thanks for the update Eric! :D

  • racking up alll…. 12…trophies…sweet..

  • The “shutdown when done updating” is a new function – made for all the idiots who shut off the power manually ;)

  • Congratulations to your team. Considering the scale of reported differences in problems, you have turned this around in less than a week. That it very impressive. Other code shops could learn from the way you guys and gals do things. I also like the fact that when you update with this patch it now reminds you that you cannot go back to an earlier firmware, and that you must not disrupt the download. Listening to your customers – this is what we like :)

  • @62, 68, and 89:
There is nothing wrong with the Sony PS3’s blu-ray drive. There is nothing wrong with Sony implementing blu-ray technology into the console in the first place. Blu-ray diodes are just like any other laser-emitting diode; except that the blu-ray ones use a narrower wavelength, that’s all. It’s not a faulty design.
Geez! some of you guys make it sound like the PS3 is the new Nintendo 1st gen. U guys remember how problematic that game loading system was (i.e. cartridges). Just be gentle with slot loading drives. Never force/push the disc in. Let the PS3 suck it in. Always hold the disc by the edges and not by its surface. Try it you’ll see.

  • WHOO HOO SONY! KOOM BI YA, BABY! Now update the browser’s flash player and we’ll be set. The sky is the limt. Peace.

  • I hate the clock,it ruins all my backgrounds. There needs to be a way to turn it off/move it.Its just not well thought out,the controller charge leve covers it up.

  • Dice_for_Death_

Thankfully, I was one of the lucky ones, re: the previous firmware, though I still want to extend my thanks to those responsible for delivering quality service and admirable quality control. Thanks, Sony & co., the future looks bright indeed with you at the wheel.

  • GT Prologue has trophies ??

is there any compatibility list with the games that support trophies ?

  • Thnx for the post. my ps3 never had any issues but thank you for being on top of this issue.

  • i know the preview feature was supposed to be in the store but i’ve never seen it until now on sshd

  • and add sound to the ingame xmb i think that would make it feel more polished, but really the clock SUCKES.its the last thing id put acrossed Jessica Alba’s but whatever.

  • Thank you very much for this fix Sony.

If on your next update you can put PS1 In Game Xmb in I would be a very happy man. Just like it was annoying for people to answer mail while playing a PS3 game, its just as annoying for me to have to log out of the PSN PS1 titles I have bought and also some of my 60+ PS1 collection as well. Not saying “DO IT NOW”, just saying please make it an option in a future update. I would greatly appreciate it as it stinks to have to log out of FF7 or Xenogears to answer mail!

Thanks for listening, and hoping for an answer some kind from SOMEONE.

  • Hi,Eric thnx for the new update works Well :D

Please Can you Confirm With us When The SSHD 4.00 Patch will be availible pls!! thank you Very Much Keep up The Good Work!!

  • Move the damn battery status, it’s pis*ing me off.

Like seriously while you play a game and want to know the time and press the PS button, all games should be paused regardless of the game. Secondly, when you want to see the time you get some big as* battery status bar blocking the time for like 3 seconds.

Honestly like that is real annoying xD, anyway lets hope Sony eventually make custom music and trophies mandatory also.

  • IMPORTANT! Hi I been reading the blog for years but today I finally decide to join my PS3 died two weeks ago and by that I mean it has the disc reading error so no matter what format it won’t play anything so today I backed up my info not through the utility and I didn’t backup game utility data but I did a FULL FORMAT and everything worked I was one of the ones to downlaod 2.40 with no problem but I had this problem before I have the 60GB model I’ve called Sony and got a ticket number but thanks forum I get to keep $150 bucks to spend on a game and also everything actually runs better now than before I’ve hadn’t had a connection problem with my PS3 nor any other problems this was the only one and wait I take that back it froze once since I’ve had it but anyway the XMB is smoother and it seems like everything overall is just faster if anyone wants to add me my PSN ID: PYTHON101

  • I’m drooling already can’t wait to get this. ^^

  • Can you add an option so that we can disable the clock please, jesus, even my cell phone has the option to disable the clock.

  • sokennethwasall

cool how the [DELETED] 2.41 update fixed NO problems that people had who installed 2.4 and had headset problems, and lagging among other problems.

sony should really get their customer service to write down [DELETED] that their customers ask them, and submit it to their superiors when asked to.

i called and asked if i could speak with someone specifically about the firmware update, and asked if those of us who installed 2.4 and had problems with it would have our problems resolved, and they had me open up ports and told me theres nothing they could do, and that a new firmware update(2.41) would be released and would indefinitely fix my problems…yeah right.

  • Well I am sad to report that 2.41 did not fix my problem regarding PS2 games not working. My warranty expires on July 19th, so tomorrow if I get time before work I’ll have to call them, go through the routine of restoring and then asking to make sure my TV works, blah blah, and then get to wait for a box to ship my system back with, wait 2 to 4 weeks for Sony to decide what to do about it, and then probably get some ishy refurb 80 or 40gb as a replacement. I must say, I’m disappointed the console didn’t last a year. Whether or not 2.40 wrecked it or if it broke on it’s own between when I last used it and when I updated to 2.40, I would HOPE that the system could at least last a year. Other then that, everything works fine… but I did notice that with 2.41, the internet browser keeps locking up. I only tried blog.us.playstation.com, I dunno if other web sites cause any probs.

  • Just waiting for the patch for SSHD and Warhawk and we can get this trophy whoring, cooking : )

  • Cool. I didn’t jad any troubles, but I’m glad you guys took the time to fix it :)

  • I installed 2.41, but now my friends 360 got the RROD! Sony, please FIX this!!!

    ;-)

Sorry, but I would like to keep seeing whats going on in my online games after I go to the XMB. So I hope Sony doesn’t change it to how you wanted. Besides, the START button is just a click away…

  • hey! can someone please help me out?!…i just updated my ps3 software to ver. 2.41…and…

the system restarted as usual, and asked me to press the ps button…

i pressed the ps button on my controller,… the 4 lights flashed for a couple of seconds, but it never went on!…i tried putting my other controller on, and the same thing happened…

then, i tried connecting the controller to my system via the usb cable, and it started charging…as usual, the lights were flashing…but, as soon as i disconnected it from my ps3, it went off again…so, i pressed the ps button once again, the lights on the controller flashed again…but it didnt go on still….

    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! THANKS!

  • @141

Yeah online games is different must continue, but I’m mainly talking about the single player games or co-op. Thanks for noticing the small thing I forgot!

  • @142

You may need to reset your controllers!

  • good work , everybody should give you guys a frigging hand. Yet still whiners ,oh well, from me. Thank you !!!

  • Thanks for the update. No difference here since 2.40 ran fine too.

Though, was hoping someone would let us know when EU get the multi player add-on for Super Stardust HD. EU doesn’t have its own blog nor do they ever seem to inform us of anything, that’s why I’m posting here, hoping someone at SCEA can shed some light and/or kick SCEE in the shin.

  • i can’t play ps2 games on my ps3 over the hdmi after i installed the fw 2.40. does anyone else have the same issue.

  • Nice one!!! ;) My 2.40 was ok anyway. +WE NEED MORE ‘Patches’ for games like now!!! ;)
Do you know how long the ‘Uncharted’ one will take???

  • Quick enough will this fix the little glitches with the comments and friend list problems
