PAIN Amusement Park: First Trailer and Preview

227 11

These past seven months have really been busy for the PAIN team. In addition to releasing our updates we have been feverishly building the “better mousetrap.” The DOWNTOWN area in PAIN was a huge success for everyone involved! I remember some of my first interviews where I had to explain PAIN to people who haven’t played before. Let me tell you, that wasn’t even remotely easy. Seven months later let me try that again …

PAIN is a game that picks up where other games leave off. In every other game when you are smacked so hard you fall down the game dusts you off, and makes you try again. When you get smacked so hard you fall down it’s time to START playing PAIN! You’ve barely gotten warmed up!

Now you know how to OOCH. Your MONKEYS have been SPANKED. Your FUN WITH EXPLOSIVES skillz are legendary. And MIMES … they get weak in the knees when your PSN Name is whispered. You’re quite the master of disaster.

DOWNTOWN … has so been destroyed.

Now it’s time to hit The Amusement Park for some rest and relaxation right?

WRONG! This Park needs to know your name.

What’s this?

HOT n COLD teddy bears that do the robot? Bouncing CLOWNS that need tossing and smacking? How about a little SHOT CALLIN’ to prove your skillz are better than anyone else around. What kind of Amusement Park is this?

It’s the PAIN ABUSEMENT PARK. This time you can invite your friends to join you. We have online multiplayer capability so you can finally pit your skills against other people on the PLAYSTATION NETWORK. We also support the new PlayStation Trophies. This might be useful to see how awesome your competition is before you challenge them to a PAIN game. There’s a whole lot of content in this Park. For a first preview of the PAIN Amusement Park, head on over to GamesRadar.

I’m very proud of this add-on. A lot of these ideas came from us .. and quite a bit from YOU, our players. If you haven’t been heard, I suggest you get over to www.painps3.com and make your presence known … I already posted a brand new blog about how we came up with this add-on.

See you at the Fun Spot … and keep your “Pimp Hand” strong. You’ll need it.

  • Looks awesome! I’m definitely buying this add on!

  • I’m more than positively surprised by the add-on, I’m sold already.

And Saint’s idea about launching Granny is excellent. Please make her an unlockable.

  • @ 95

I’m a tool? you are just mean, this got nothing to do with you and you are wishing death on me?

Yeah I bashed the game but I think I can have an opinion.

Travis I know you were being humorous, but I am not a fan of this at all. I wasnt being rude and I guess as that fact means I really have no bussiness here in the first place! fruity = bad to me just so WE are on the same page, but I am sure u are aware of that.

I dont come here to troll I come because of things that bother me or things I like (not enough of the latter).

And travis I never expected you to answer questions, nor did I really ask you anything at all…having asked a whole lot of questions and never having them answered here is why I dont ask direct or real questions anymore….

keep in mind I dont really buy psn games anymore at ALL since my warhawk nightmare…

  • Hi guys,

First let me give you guys compliments on creating probably one of “the” most hilarious games out there. I remember when I played the … at first, I laughed so hard I literally pied my pants :-D

How did you came up with this concept and idea anyway? In the time doing stunts on your own, watching too many Jackass?

This amusement-park add on is sure going to blast. When I think of the chaos you can create over there… Oooch… FUN! So bring it on guys!

    Good luck to you.

Greets from a female gamer from the Netherlands :-)

P.S. saintfighteraqua, your launching-granny idea is sure a great one ha ha. Say sonny what are you planning to do, no, no don’t shoot me… ouch.. oh no not another hip :-D

  • Whoops sorry had to look up what the part in the game was named and forgot to add it ha ha. Looks silly.

“I remember when I played the (CRASH COURSE) at first, I laughed so hard I literally pied my pants :-D”

    That’s it…

  • Hey, wouldnt it be cool if in the future pain could have like 1 big plato, say like something similar, not exact, to GTA. A online world of people just catapulting theyselves around the place causin destruction. You could have games like who can destroy the most in this amount of time or whatever. That would rock.

  • @95 Mr. KenLanzJr….a second time…. just because I really dont like your comment at all….

why dont you get on psn right now and log onto GTA IV or Battlefield, or COD 4 or warhawk and ill show you who the tool is….ill kill you over and over and over again in any game you have. lets see if you can even play your ps3 KenLanzJr. Ill beat you in any game you have, name your game, A. I probably have it B. I am better than you at it.

    dont insult me again..

my psn is the same as my posting name here

@travis: maybe I was incorrect and you didnt censor me, maybe im just confused all the gray blogs look the same so sorry.

@Sins: Europe, Asia and the United States all get the Amusement Park on the same date. So you won’t have to wait for this any longer than anyone else. I’m partial to nectarines and blueberries. (Chuckle)

@X-Ninja: We are looking at ways to enable the XMB player into PAIN so I hear what you are talking about and it’s on our list of things to address. Although this feature might have to happen post the Amusement Park launch. Although you might think things are “minor” changes sometimes they really aren’t. That doesn’t mean the PAIN team runs from this challenge it just means it might take us a bit longer to make other features happen.

@Chip: Although I would love to toss Mickey I just don’t think that’s going to happen. They are a little too protective of that icon.

@Thunderstruck: That might be followed by: YOUR FIIIIIIIIIRED. And I kinda love my job. So I think I might have to pass.

@Sibbor: You have Super Ooches as well as Ooches so there is quite a bit to keep you going. If you watch the video there are plenty of rides that keep you moving in this add-on so I guess the short answer to your question is YES. CERTAINLY.

@Axeblade: That’s a great idea but unfortunately it’s out of my territory. However , I will forward that on to others because I think it’s brilliant. I don’t know if it’s possible now but I would love that feature too.

@Warez: Dude… if you got the voucher GET IN HERE. I would ask you if you are waiting on an invitation or something. If you are.. HERE IT IS. Come on in… The Water’s FUNKY.

@Saint/Haiku: Everyone wants to be Granny. We need to respect that huh? I will see what I can do.

@Midnight: I’m sorry no one ever answers your questions dude. I was ready to help you out. Hopefully you will buy some PSN games in the future. We aren’t out to “Get Ya” and it’s not a lack of respect at all. I try to answer everyone’s questions (within reason). I know the Warhawk guys pretty well and I am sorry you had a bad experience. It’s cool man.

@Onna: Wow a female player from the Netherlands! And here I was thinking that ladies don’t think my brand of humor is funny. Pardon me while I print and post your comments on my wall. (Deep Bow) THANK YA VERAH MUCH.

@Catastrops3: Great idea. Hmmmm. Let me write that down.

MAN IT’S LATE I’M GOIN TO BED!

  • You guys are great, when you see developers that are so commited to their customers, like you guys and criterion, it really does restore hope in the industy. This game is just so addictive, I mean I can play it for hours on my own and even longer with my friends.

I love the look of the new content guys, great job. Can I just ask, will the new online multiplayer allow you to invite your friends to a game rather than just searching for a game with people you don’t know?

Thanks for your great work guys and I would appreciate it if you could answer my quick question.

  • i tried to put a link here, but it doesn’t work???

it’s about a petition! PSN Cards.

  • Wow that looks like great fun, Pain has saved me quite a few times from boredum which I love. With the new trophies and abusement park (great name) I’ll be busy for quite some time.

I forget who said it but I highly agree with the thought of being able to launch granny and cowguy that would be quite awesome! It’s great you guys continue to support Pain, this is how long time customers are earned keep up the great work guys!

  • @Travis, LOMA, last time I checked I still was. Really? Where can I find it, I’m curious. YA VERAH MUCH WELCOME :-D

  • @C-h-a-o-s

The Cow guy is actually a unlockable character allready, you need to bomb him some times (5?) then you get him, ready to do some udderly destructive stuff….hah…

now for my question… and some props:P

Great great great fantastic game, i mean Schadenfreude (german for: happiness over the missfortune of others, and no im not german:P)is one of the greatest expressions of all time, and you have made a game that i keep coming back to all the time and i love it, especially now that you have added custom music, i loves it.

Now, what would be awesome was if you could add a way to save snapshots and videos of your replays on your HDD, i can remember countless times ive done something reeaaaally cool and then had to just move on without anyone having anyone else seeing it (without videos its fiction… or something) and if you do add it, please, please dont do the same mistake as Skate. did, where you only have a limited ammount of replays you can actually save…. oh and it would be cool if you could export them and move over to your pc forexample.

once again great job and i love the fact that you respond to the community (been watching the posts on the pain site)

    Morbo

  • Hi there,

are you considering adding YouTube support in the future? It’s would great if we could share the craziest replay like that.

  • I’ve got a great idea for one of the online multiplayer modes.

How about the ability for both (or more) players to launch at the same time and then the goal is to try and grab EACH OTHER as well as doing lots of “stylin'” moves and hitting as much things as possible to rack up points !!

  • Travis, there is one problem with the jukebox. I have loads of mp3’s on my ps3 but it will only scroll down to M, is there a limit of amount of songs? I cannot access N-Z of my songs in the in-game jukebox?
    thanks

  • @116

Maybe they want us to listen to Michael Jackson more often :P4 Jks, lol

  • Just got up to see what all ended up being posted, wanted to say Thank You Travis for listening and then responding so we know your listening. It adds a whole new feel to playing a game when somebody who makes it tells you personally thanks for the ideas we’ll do our best to put that in. It almost feels like the best part of every consumers ideas get thrown in. I’ve seen this game come along way and I’ve always loved it. The issues I had with the game were addressed a while back when in Multi-player everybody had to be the same character. Then the added bonus of custom soundtracks. Insane Clown Posse while tossin mimes is AWESOME. I know you probably wont comment anymore Travis, but I hope you do read this as well. Thanks for everything, hope you add me for online multi-player fun when it comes out, although I’m sure you friends list is maxed out.
    PSN ID= Sancho45

  • Okay to proof I actually “have” the game…a pic. I hate making pictures of my own and its to be seen, “miss dork”, sorry about that :-P

If it looks like I’m in pain, could be right, I was sitting on the sharp edge of my bed… “oooch” :-D

    http://img243.imageshack.us/my.php?image=missdorkxf4.jpg

  • SWEET! AS LONG AS IT HAS THROPHY SUPPORT YOU GOT MY MONEY!

  • Ok , im sold , im gonna get this game and addon :D

  • Travis, your awesome. Thanks for passing on the info. I think it would make a great future update.

  • Idol Minds are now my favourite developer in the world ever; now THIS is listening to your consumers. Can’t wait for this release, guys. Bring on the PAIN!

  • Well, looks like I’ll have to dust off that slingshot… Any chance at introducing online multiplayer? That would be a very welcome addition! Having up to 4 or 6 guys with voice chat (and text) enabled and talking smack to eachother would be a great way to kill some time.

If you do introduce this option, the players waiting their turn should be able to set their own view setting; chase-cam, bird-eye view, free roam, etc.

Anyway, keep up the great work guys!

  • Well, NVM! lol I just saw that online multiplayer will be added! NICE!

  • Hmm. This Would Probably get me back into pain…i lost interest after getting 1,499,876 points…if that stupid truck didn’t it something =[

also, is there any chance of you guys making a pose editor? it just popped into my mind, create-a-pose =]

  • Is this game actually fun? Just wondering because it does seem lame!

  • @ Travis Williams
Where is the playstation characters that you said you’re going to add it in the game after polling in the PlayStation blog.

  • @ Travis Williams
Where the playstation characters that you said you’re going to add it in the game after polling in the PlayStation blog.

  • To whom it may concern: the PAIN blog’s comment section is broken (it seems like the last pingback entry has either an unclosed CDATA-tag or an unclosed single quote in it which prevents the comment form from appearing)…something for the web-guys to figure out, I guess.

And oh yeah, love the game & can’t wait for the Amusement Park ;)

  • @Midnight, I don’t know what your problem is. I don’t know what your “Warhawk nightmare” is (although buying it online and Sony not allowing friends to play it is lame).

What I do know is that your ability to kill people in games does not make your opinions any more or less valid, does not give you any worthy reputation on a forum like this nor does it make you look especially smart or wise.

Why don’t you try justifying your opinions with words instead?

PS, my PSN ID is the same as my ID in here too.

  • Hey Travis. I love pain and cant wait for the update with trophies!!! You guys deserve some credit because you work so hard on these updates and get people that just have stuff to complain about. Most of their complaints dont make sense anyway so it shouldnt hurt ya. Thanks again and keep up the good work!!!

  • @Travis:

It wasn’t to be mean, it’s just the opinion of most of the consensus on PAIN. Go onto any other forum or blog (besides PlayStation related ones) and you’ll see what I mean.

I don’t currently own PAIN, but I am planning on purchasing it. The only thing that has been turning me off is that although it’s gotten good support — in game music (why doesn’t Sony just come out with universal music so you guys don’t need to patch it??), future online mode, different layouts; it seems as if there wasn’t any thought in for the consumers of PAIN. Sure you’re giving us different layouts, but ultimately we’re still playing the same 1 map that $10 bought us. I really think that you guys should have put in another map, or even two when the game was launched. And honestly, releasing characters right after the launch and charging us is pretty disrespectful for a game that is not plentiful in substance to begin with. All I’m asking is throw those who are loyal to your game (those that are posting here with love and support, those that have bought the game @ launch, not for me) a bone. You’ll see games today that don’t cost you a penny to get some great addons and patches. Just take after them and surely you would get more buyers than releasing the DLC that should have been with the launch of the game for even more cash.

  • I’m really happy with the update guys, keep up the good work. I also wanted to know if you can atleast release an estimated amount of trophies that will make it in the game. Just to give us an idea if you don’t mind.

  • @103,
You sound like a slightly retarded child, as i said before, go crawl into a hole somewhere.

  • Travis Williams

@TTP: We are adding replay recording and posting. If it goes to YouTube has not been completely decided yet. But we will have a means for you to share/post/comment. Hows that for an answer? This feature is not in PAIN for the Amusement Park. It will come later and be part of the PAIN base you won’t have to buy anything more than Downtown to get it.

@Morbo: Screenshots are coming as well. Sooner than replay.

@Dave-The-Rave: We actually thought about more than one person launching at once and canned it because it would cause too much chaos.. at least this time around.

@Jordan: I am not sure dude. I haven’t reached a limit to mine. Are you sure those are not some other file format like AAC, MP4, WMA? We don’t support those in PAIN yet.

@Sancho: Yes I am still reading the posts and thank you for your comments. I need to create a non work id and use that for my name when we go online. Then I will reveal it later. Hahaha. Hmmm that sounds like a great idea.

@Thanks to: Mexwarrior, Fersis and Axeblade we put a lot of work into this new stuff. I hope you all like it.

@Nynja: Yeah man Online Multiplayer is one of the big draws. When we first released PAIN everyone said Multiplayer must be in so we added it.

@HorizonShadow: We WERE going to do a pose editor and it lost out to Multiplayer and Replay Recording/Editing. Maybe somewhere down the line.

@Superfist: I am not sure PAIN is as fun as having a Superfist but it’s pretty close. Howzat? Honestly I love it but then again I’m a bit biased Yadig?

@Ghamdikh: Built some already and I am adding more. When they come you will hear about it. I’m pretty stoked about that actually.

@Navaho: I am working on that now.

@YoPark: I know most of the “complaints” usually come from non users who don’t know how much PAIN has grown and changed since we shipped it. It’s cool. We hope they try us out and see what the deal is eventually.

@Al2x: I will say this. A lot of gamers say they want something different and PAIN was a response to that. The problem with most gamers is they SAY they want something different, but when push comes to shove they wait for the next FPS (or something like that). I am guilty of it to. So when they see something like PAIN they all have the same “What is this” canned response. People who play PAIN and see what we do with it are impressed. It’s just getting beyond the initial “What is this” that’s so hard for most people.

Although PAIN has one map there are different things to do on the map and those mode differences aren’t just cosmetic. PAIN is : The serious strategic pursuit of nonsense. To look like a COMPLETE jackass in PAIN takes a lot of skill.

Because you don’t own PAIN you might not realize how much work goes into a different mode of play be it Single or Multiplayer. But playing PAIN and seeing the stark differences between BOWLING and FUN WITH EXPLOSIVES you will see where our time went. We could have spent time building new areas but then the play wouldn’t have been as deep. If the gameplay was just as deep and we had more areas it would have had to come in at a higher price.

Ask anyone who paid for PAIN when we released and ask them what they have gotten support wise since. Bones have been thrown my friend. And we are not done. Multiplayer will be added to PAIN even if you don’t buy anything else. So will Trophy Support. Voice Chat and Replay Edits too. We even modified an existing mode for Single Player and also gave that away for free. It makes the bean counters angry but it keeps our gamers happy.

So the people who are defending us on this thread are likely those people who realize PAIN hasn’t ever been a fire and forget product. We look after our gamers and take advice from them all the time. It has made us a better product for it. Thanks for taking the time to make your points. I really appreciate it when I get input and not flames.

@BabeBro: Don’t hold me to this but last time I counted we had more than a dozen. That will change I am sure and hopefully in the plus category. I will make a post to http://www.painps3.com soon and detail the trophies.

  • Travis:

I get what you’re coming from. I have played PAIN a lot before, just about all of my friends own the game. The different modes and layouts do make a difference and although there has been much costly content you guys have made up for it with community support and the freebies too.

Gotta love how quick you respond to, beats the crap out of sending emails and waiting on them for two months. Thanks for the input, I look forward to playing PAIN in the future.

  • I can tell you guys right now that I won’t be paying for this. First you charged me full price for a demo a few months back, then you nickel and dimed me for extra skins that should have been included.

It seems to me that you guys just broke up the game in to chunks that you can sell. To hell with this developer.

This should be free, you got enough out of us you tightwads.

  • Maybe you could add a game mode where you can create your own little city and then destroy it. You could make it to where you could share it online with other people. You could also incorporate the six axsis somehow. Just some ideas that I think would be cool. THANKS

  • Thanks a lot Travis, I’ve been a PA!N user since it first released and ever since I have purchased every single bit of content you’ve released.

I also am comepletely in love with the Juke Box. It’s honestly one of the best features you’ve implemented. Not to say I don’t enjoy the default PA!N soundtrack, but there’s nothing better than launching Molly to Souljah Boy’s “Superman dat h*****e!” LOL!

I love the game and I honestly hope that you guys are never discouraged by the idiots that come on here and try to make it seem like your work is unnoticed. Because I for one can vouch and say that I am a fan. No wait, better yet, you made me a fan. When I first saw and read about PA!N I said to myself “What the heck is this? A game about launching characters? That sucks!”.

But once I downloaded it and saw that it actually had a concept and an objective I was surprised. I love the way it utilized everything in it’s surroundings to help gain points. Very unique in my opinion. I look forward to downloading the Park and slaying those trophies, LOL

I also want to take advantage of the fact that you reply to us on here and suggest some ideas for future DLC if possible:

    1) Make Grandma launchable please! LOL
    2) A Snowy Alpine stage would be sick.
    3) We need someone overweight to launch. Someone so fat they roll and pounce like a ball :)
    4) I’d love a water park stage also.
    5) Different costumes for the characters.

Other than that, keep up the good work and know that there are gamers out here that really appreciate your hard work. Thanks for everything I can’t wait for those trophies!

  • Hey Travis,

I guess one line questios have a tendency to get lost in the shuffle here. No problem I’ll ask again. Will thenew level be called “The Amusement Park” or “The ABUSEMENT Park”?

You know, I bought PAIN day one and after about an hour I was like “Why did I waste $$ on this?” Then I showed it to some friends and we ended up playing it for hours. Now I still play it quite a bit and I CAN’T WAIT for the new level (whatever it’s called) YOU GUYS ROCK!!

  • Yeah I have over 100 mp3’s but only displaying 70 of them?

  • COOL! I’m looking forward to it and I don’t even have the game!!!! :p

Of course, I would if the PSN Cards were out in America…

    :(

~Hint-Hint… WHEN ARE THE CARDS COMING????

  • Can’t wait for this one, any announcements on price? We’d really like the trophies before this release as well if possible.

  • Thanks for the reply Travis :)

  • @The Brain: We always have a “sandbox” mode in PAIN areas that we give names to. In Downtown this area was called PAINdemonium. For the Amusement Park it’s called “Abusement Park” it’s just a funny way of saying DOWHATCHALIKE

And oddly enough a lot of people have that impression about PAIN until they get into it and really start realizing what they can do. It’s hard to explain that to people sometimes… like Vitz. Anyone who has spent some time with PAIN won’t have those comments. I’m guessing he just likes being angry.

@Midgetguy: I have no idea about the PSN cards but I would like one too. I am sure we will make some noise about that when it happens widespread.

@Jordan: That seems odd because I have way more than that and I see my MP3s just fine. Have you tried breaking them down into smaller playlists?

@Viper: I will meet you sorta halfway on that. Check the official board in the next few weeks I will post something you might be interested in.

@BabeBro: That’s the downside to forums sometimes. Most satisfied people don’t post only the angry ones do. It makes us really happy to get honest input and props. Okay lemme answer some of your questions.

Granny: You know it seems like A LOT of people want to make Granny launchable. We actually had her as a launchable character in our pre-production work. Let me ask you another question. Would you like the current granny or another one?

Snowy Alpine Stage: Hmmmm I think you are on to something. No promises but the idea sounds compelling.

Overweight Characters: So Santa wasn’t enough huh? I will get to work on this one. There’s been a lot of requests for a Sumo guy. I think it’s gonna have to be done at some point.

Waterpark: Amusement Park has a water log ride. What else could you possibly want? (Haha)

Different Costumes: We did those for Jarvis since he’s the mascot. I am looking into that as well. When we change costumes we do different voice takes too so I will see what we can do.

@Blindside: Prices are coming very soon. Like around E3 time.

  • I have to agree with user “Al2x” 100%

I’m a Canadian PS3 launch owner, which means, I paid in and about $750.00 for my system. I also bought PAIN for 11.99 plus tax and I have to say, that out of every game that I have ever bought, for every piece of downloadable content I have purchased, for every PSN game that I own, PAIN has been the WORST decision I have ever made and I can’t express how much I want my money back.

When I first saw PAIN, I thought to myself, what an interesting idea and was excited. But after purchasing it, I was horrified with the lack of content for the price.

When I started playing this game, for 12 bucks plus tax, and was only delivered 1 level to play on, and one character to use (with 3 others on my screen, one to unlock and two to pay for) I felt horribly insulted and taken in (much like my purchase of my PS3).

I haven’t spent a single penny on PAIN since I paid for it when it released and I can’t expect to pay for any of it’s content from here on out. It’s far too expensive for characters and I shudder at how much you are going to charge for this new level.

I’m sorry, but the post where Travis claims about all the “free” stuff is just PR talk. Most of that stuff IS free and is SUPPOSED to be free. Trying to make me think that you’re going “above and beyond” for consumers by adding “Trophy Support” is almost insulting. Come on, who are you fooling ? That service is free. Well, you might say, “We didn’t have to add it” well, you’re right, you would have to add it, but see how many Playstation fans will buy your future products when you gouge your consumers for this product and don’t support the initiatives that Sony puts forth.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to slight the developer for their work. I’m sure it’s not easy to do what you do, but you have to realize, what you gave us is crap and IS NOT worth the money you want for it.

Full Playstation 1 games are cheaper and provide much more variety than PAIN.

Maybe I just don’t get it, but I can’t in good conscience, tell my friends to waste their money on this game when there are so many more games out there that are worth the money.

I can see, in the end, paying more for this game than I paid for Oblivion and I’ve gotten over 500 hours from that game, and there is still more to do. It’s not just one level, not just 3 modes and by the time I spend money on a few more characters and some new levels (that frankly should have been there from the start) I’ll end up paying more for a game that offers much less.

I’m a HUGE Playstation fan, furthermore a HUGE Sony fan. My 30+ PS3 disc game collection and 80+ Blu-Ray collection, not to mention my PSN purchases, multiple PSP’s, games, UMD videos, Cybershot camera, SonyEricsson phone, Bravia TV, Sony DVD burner, Sony Car CD Player, etc. more than back it up. And I’m sorry if it seems harsh, or if I’m missing the point somewhere, but with the way Sony has been handling this generation of console, I’ve started to loose my faith pretty quickly…like terminal velocity quickly…and that saddens me. :'(

    Sincerely,
    TristanMike

  • Weird. Yesterday I posted on the first page of the comments saying I wouldn’t get this update and basically voicing my displeasure. Was there some technical error or was I actually censored? I am a little surprised by the ratio of positive to negative comments considering most people on the official forums say this game is crap.

  • @TristanMike: I am not sure anything in life is SUPPOSED to be free. To create anything (especially tech) takes manpower and most people engineers and artists don’t work for FREE. The improvements to PAIN that have come post-launch took many man hours to create, test and publish. While it surely cost US money to accomplish, we (meaning development) felt like it would be a good idea to just release these updates for free.

When people think content Tristan content is not just a “level.” Content is also mode play (or game scripting). There is a significant amount of game design in PAIN that you might not be aware of. In PAIN (Downtown) there are PAINDemonium (A sandbox mode that has 4 different layouts complete with trophies). Fun With Explosives (Also with 4 different levels of play). Mime Toss (4 levels of play) and Spank the Monkey (Yep 4 levels of play) Now before I continue let me also state that these levels of play also change the rules as the levels of play advance it’s not just lets rearrange things.

Then we have Multiplayer modes: HORSE (4 layouts), Fun With Explosives, and Bowling all these modes are quite different and took quite a bit of time to code and implement.

There are DOZENS of in-game trophies to get. Characters to unlock. (and yes some to buy as well). It’s nice that people buy all of the characters but you don’t need to buy them to complete PAIN and have a good time with it. It was our intention to produce characters that people want to toss around. The more characters we have the wider selection people have.

I am not sure what you mean about gouging people either. That would imply that you HAVE to purchase something (which you clearly don’t). And to assume I am PR (or even acting for them) is to clearly not know me. I’m answering questions here because I want to. Sony doesn’t MAKE us answer these questions. Producers post here because they want to.

Everyone isn’t going to like PAIN. That’s cool. We are never under the impression that we will appeal to everyone. My guess is that you really didn’t take the time to get good at PAIN or that you just don’t “get it” as you say. In that case I doubt there is anything I can say to you that will convince you otherwise.

For what it’s worth you sound like a very passionate gamer and a loyal Sony customer. Sorry PAIN wasn’t your cup of “tea.” Maybe the next game we make will be more to your liking. You never know.

    Peace

  • @tristanmike. $11.99 is not that much. It’s like 2 1/2 gallons of gas nowaday’s. Even in it’s early strip down version it was worth close to that. Now so much more has already been added making that cost well worth it. anything new that’s added free of charge from now on out is a bonus and yes they could be like EA ,capcom, Namco, or infinity ward and not support older titles and just screw us and move on to a sequel but they are not doing this. Props for Idol Minds and SCEA for thier continued work on this game.
